Diner Reviews
  • " We feel fortunate to live in town with such a wonderful restaurant."

  • "Excellent Brunch !. My family of Five has been here for Sunday Brunch 6 times and each time has been a great experience! "

  • "We have dined here a few times before and had a great lunch on the last time so we were excited to go for Easter brunch with our children. We arrived very early for our reservation but they quickly set up our table which proved to be one of the best tables on that day. The people waiting after we were seated became so large in the small bar that the tables at the fireplace were overcrowded. We decided to eat the brunch due to the fact that our 3 small children were hungry and wanted to get started! The food was ok, not great, the selection was quite limited and although we ate it was not worth the bill at the end. We should've stuck to the dinner menu which was available too. Live and learn! We will return again."

  • "This is what a restaurant dining experience should be! Excellent food, in a beautiful and quiet setting, attentive service, always."

  • "Took my wife here and also booked into Crabtree hotel for an overnight. Great surroundings, v good wine list (caters for range of wallet sizes) and food was v v v good. I live in NYC so not the sort of place you would go to on a whim as it's about an hour drive from the City. Service was good - minor blip was from a particular waiter who seemed not to be listening (or couldn't understand English) as we had to repeat everything at least twice which became irritating after a while. As we were checking out of the hotel the next day we saw the preparation for Sunday brunch being made, which looked amazing. Will definitely be back for that one Sunday soon with the kids as well (but I wouldn't recommend bringing them for dinner)."

  • "I had lunch here with a colleague whom I lunch with frequently in NYC. This was a perfect location for a quiet lunch and good conversation. I would definitely go back. The seasonal lunch specials were a good deal"

  • "I have been going to The Kittle House for years...this place is one of my All Time Favorites! Though it may be a bit pricey, the food is delicious, and the service excellent. Where else can you order a "Hot Fundge Sundae" with homemade hot fudge, homemade peanut brittle, and over the top ice cream? Here! My guest said it was the best he has EVER had...and he's eaten in tons of places. Have no fear of frequenting this establishment."

  • "This a very classy establishment, with great ambiance. It's a historic building (100s of years old) but the interior is a nice mix of the old and newer elements. If you're sitting next to the window during the day, there are some rolling hills behind the restaurant that are somewhat scenic, but there's nothing to see at night. We had 2 waiters that were both well-informed and efficient. The food itself came out promptly, but we never felt rushed. We ordered the chopped salad and taglitelle as appetizers, both were quite good. We ordered the salmon and chicken as main courses, and while the chicken was very good, the salmon was fantastic. We were still talking about it the next day. It's pricey but worth it for a special occasion."

  • "The brunch here is very good. The menu items are prepared very well and are delicious. Try the quiche if they have it that day. Overall, Crabtree does a pretty good job of brunch. The place is beautiful. My only complaints are that the service is pretty lackluster. That's probably because the gratuity is built in to the bill. The servers know they are automatically getting at least an 18% gratuity. That being said, there are times when you simply cannot find your waiter anywhere. If you are looking for a great brunch with super service try Winfield’s at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Cos Cob. Pretty pricey ($60/person) but worth it just for the excellent service."

  • "The service is really excellent as was the food. Our waiter was wonderful. There is one glaring thing: the chairs are so old there are depressions in them where people have been sitting. Please fix this, they are not comfortable."

  • "We were quite disappointed with the meal. Overcooked fish, cold scallops, overpriced homemade sparkling water ($7 for bottle of carbonated tap water). See Trip Advisor for the complete review. Long story short, the restaurant claimed that it was because we went when the executive chef was on holiday, and the sous chef just can't fill his shoes. Could be true, but how can we know? And we're not going back. This was our second visit. Our first was almost 4 years ago and it was so bad, that we refused to try again, but you know how it is -- time plays tricks on you. Same awful bread though."

  • "Eat here often but forgot that Thursday nights are "music" night. It was a little loud for a quiet dinner with good friends but enjoyed it, as always, despite the noise. Prefer a NON music night next time when going with others; Music OK if just the two of us. Susan"

  • "Went here for lunch to change it up, had been for dinner a couple of times never lunch. We were first there and only a handful of people arrived during the time we were there. Food and service were excellent, great extensive menu. Only "complaint" - they should have had the fire lit, it was raining heavily outside and very dreary, the fire would really have brightened things up! We will definitely return."

  • "We had a delicious dinner here during Restaurant Week in the Hudson Valley. Food was excellent. I had the skirt steak and my husband has the pork shank. We were with friends who had the same dinners and all raved about how delicious they were. We will definitely eat here again."

  • "Perfect brunch with the family. A great buffet with lots of selections for every picky eater. It was a relaxed brunch with attentive service and did not feel rushed out. I would recommend getting here on the earlier side than later for brunch."

  • "Such a beautiful place. If you enjoy buildings that look like they have a rich history, you will love this place. The ambiance is great and the good is even better. I got a fish dish and it was some of the better fish I've ever had. My girlfriend had a steak which was delicious as well. Definitely a well recommended place."

  • "This restaurant is always excellent. The food, service and wine list makes for a special evening regardless if you're there with family, date or friends. The restaurant never disappoints. Go for that special occasion or just for a nice dinner or great brunch."

  • "My boyfriend and I made a reservation for restaurant week. Everything was fantastic, even the bread that was served. We will definitely return for a special occasion since it is more on the expensive side."

  • "Everything (food, service, ambience) was good/okay but nothing special. I would definitely be more confident recommending x2o to my friends than this restaurant."

  • "We enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere of dining in such a beautiful historic inn and restaurant."

  • "Flavors were sublime....truly a special meal. One star was taken off for sprinkled salt crystals on top of already salted food, making it a bit too salty for my palate. Presentation was special; ambiance was congenial, even on a nasty, wet evening."

  • "I enjoyed the food and service. It is ideal for private parties as well. The outdoor views is stunning"

  • "The food for resturant week was great. The service was exceptional. We arrived early and we went into the bar area which is very welcoming. I have been here for different events and the buffet was great and the garden was very pleasant to enjoy drinks and conversation. I would highly recommend this great restaurant and plan to go back to brunch."

  • "We'd been here before several times but not often because it's kind of pricey so we already knew how terrific it was when we went for restaurant week. The salads were very fresh. I had a pasta dish that was awesome for an appetizer. My husband had pork chops as an entree that were also great. My black bass was a little boring but still good. The wine was excellent and their wine list is known to be very good. Desserts were a little rich - cheese cake, something with bananas and chocolate, or ice cream. I wish they'd had a lighter alternative (this was just the restaurant week menu, they probably have more choices on the regular menu). Atmosphere is beautiful - an historic inn with antique furnishings."

  • "Returned to Crabtree Kittle House after many years with friends for restaurant week to try it once again. It seems that I made an embarrassing error. It seems that on Sat night restaurant week menu is only served from 5:5:30 and 9-10. Unfortunately, I had not seen this caveat when I made the reservation. Oh we'll! Food was good . Atmosphere was nice and quiet. Table was lovely. Had a good evening."

  • "We visited Kittle House for a late Saturday lunch during restaurant week. This was out first time at the restaurant for lunch, we have always gone for dinner. The restaurant is bright and inviting and we had a table overlooking the country club golf course. The restaurant week lunch menu was exceptional. Our server, Jose, recommended an excellent pinot noir to accompany our meal. I had the pork loin and my wife that the steak. both were perfectly cooked and were a diner sized portion. recommend highly and will return"
