A word from Crab Hut
Crab Hut was founded in 2007 by a family that loves food and beer, with one purpose to bring San Diego some good ole' Southern sass and flavor. Our goal is to redefine the eating out experience and engaging the guest with hands on food, while keeping it fresh with products grown and rise locally here in San Diego.

With such a crazy concept, there must be crazy people behind it and yes we are. We're as crazy about our food as we are about the brews that we serve. Keeping it local and sustainable is our main goal and we do it when we can. This ensures our customers with the freshest quality available. Our taps and bottles also feature some of the best microbrews San Diego has to offer. We carry products from Karl Strauss, Stone, Lightning, Green Flash, Ale Smith, Coronado, Mission Brew, Ballast Point and many more. So bring your family, friends, neighbor, co-worker, friend’s friend’s friend and join our food and beer loving family for some good ole’ dirty fun.

Diner Reviews
  • "Not your typical hole in the wall restaurant. This place has great seafood and it comes in abundance for a moderate price---cheap compared to other restaurants in the Gaslamp District. We were a party of 4 (2 adults and 2 kids) and celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary. A good place to hang out with friends and/or family in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The service was good and the food was great. My daughter ordered the fish and chips and got full off of the chips alone. I had it for lunch and dinner the next day."

  • "You will get down and dirty with your food, but the taste is well worth it! The steamed seafood dishes are always sooo good!"

  • "I had to hike 3 blocks and pay $10 for 1 hour for parking which was not enough time to eat anything but french fries & wait for all my party to arrive so we could meet elsewhere to eat where we could take our time.."

  • "This is a popular spot, so make reservations. They offer a nice selection of ways to prepare your food as far as seasoning goes. Dress is very casual. This is not the most quiet place, so bringing young kids is no problem. The service is good and staff is careful to make sure you enjoy your food."

  • "Party of 3. Decided to order appetizers. Ordered the crab poppers, hush puppies, and then crab Rangoon when the server said "You are ordering too many appetizers." In my 40+ years of eating out, I've never had anyone reprimand me for ordering "too many appetizers." Guest ordered a pound of seafood and we were told "A pound comes with corn and sausage." Seafood came but no corn or sausage. We informed waiter who told us "You ordered the combo, which is 1/2 pound of crawfish and 1/2 pound of shrimp; since it wasn't one pound of ONE TYPE of seafood, no corn and sausage for you." Friend ordered another pound of seafood - ALL crawfish. Got the crawfish with a 1.5 inch corn cob & 2 slivers of sausage. What a ripoff. Never going back."

  • "I went here with my wife and very picky mother in law and we all enjoyed every bit of our meal. My mother in law is used to southern bakes so she loved the fact that we shelled our own crawdads. This is true Louisiana cuisine and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for good southern comfort food."

  • "Im from Louisiana...so i didnt have the highest expectations for this place. I just didnt think the food would be as good as back at home. I was in for a surprise! The food was actually very good. The crab poppers were delicious and the crab legs cooked in old bay and spiced to knock out standards was on point for my taste buds. The server was very nice and the atmosphere was fun!"

  • "The food comes to your table in plastic bags. No plates, no flatware unless you ask for some. We had lobster, shrimp, crayfish...none of which was especially flavorful. I think they try to use their spices to cover the mediocre quality of the food. Service was terrible. I had iced tea and was never offered a refill. At the end of the meal, when we were tired of waiting, we had to go to the bar to get our check - and the restaurant wasn't full. Don't go here unless every other place is closed - our worst dining experience in at least 10 years...and it is too expensive to be that bad."

  • "The food is amazing! I'll never look at seafood the same again. My wife and I ate dinner there 2 of the 3 nights we were in San Diego. The price is very reasonable for crab and seafood. I liked that they sell it by the pound. The beverage menu is extensive. I had to roll myself out of there each night."

  • "this was my first experience at the Crab Hut in the gaslamp district. I was unsure of what to expect. I am very particular about my selection of crab. I'm lazy and I don't like working to get the meat out of the crab, so I prefer the king crab. The crab hut seasons their crab much better than red lobster and I love red lobsters king Crab. They have a variety of choices for crab and shrimp. My table was ready when I arrived because I reserved it in advance. we had a great time."

  • "My guy and I came here for Restaurant Week and were not disappointed. They had a deal or $45/person for a three-course meal and the option of adding a pitch of local beer (yes, the good stuff) for $15. We arrived at 5pm and were informed by the waitress that the happy hour price was $10/pitcher. So we ordered a pitcher of Green Flash IPA - a pint of this deliciousness is typically $4.50 to $6 anywhere else - what a steal. Would come back for that alone! We added on an order of oysters, which were clean and fresh, and only $1 each for happy hour. The food was good, the o'butter sauce was amazing, and dessert was just so-so. Overall, we would definitely come back."

  • "The food was good and prices fair. Crawfish was frozen (stay away) but you can never go wrong with shrimp. Sampler boat was humongous and great for parties. Happy hour was 3-7 with $10 pitchers (good selection of beer), $1 oysters (great), and $.50 wings. We ordered some wings but they never came. It was pretty loud but it's a place where you eat with your hands and everyone's wearing a bib so that fits just fine. I prefer this location to the Kearny Mesa location due to the variety of beer, the happy hour specials and the fact that this place doesn't overspice their sauces (half-medium spicy at KM is at least a medium downtown, sometimes hotter)."

  • "This was our first visit to the crab hut. I decided to take my husband for his birthday and he loved the food! We got the seafood bucket and the flavor was just great. I say it was unique because you don't have to worry about not getting messy and using a fork and knife. You receive a bib and gloves and enjoy!!! They also have happy hour during the week which includes 1 dollar oysters!!! My husband loves oysters and he said this were the best he had ever had!"

  • "Me and my boyfriend have been here twice and have had two very different experiences. 1st during Restaurant Week where we received the best service we have ever had. The server was a younger male with dreds which were braided, BEST SERVICE of our lives & one of the main reasons we went back again looking for the same experience which we did not receive. I also work in the restaurant service and Ive seen it happen many time where there is just too many people working and in stead of looking for work or checking on their table, the group of young female servers were just standing around talking to each other. Our server the second time around was nice but distractible, where we ourselves had to stand up look for someone to ask for something."

  • "I have never ate such amazing seafood in my life and I consider myself well traveled. Lobster crabs shrimp steamed rice. Oyster on the half shell. Food was a dream and I cant wait to go back. But if I could I would have left $0 tip unfortunatly I was celebrating my wifes birthday and had a mando large group service charge. Seriously the service was appaling and shockingly bad even though I told them it was my wifes bday. But I eould go back to order a lobster and a pound of shrimo and and some steamed rice."

  • "We had been looking for good seafood since Seattle, and we found it here. Nam our waiter, was excellent. He helped us design the meal we wanted and had the kitchen prepare it.the seasoning was excellent. The service was excellent. We would highly recommend this place to anyone. If we lived here we would come here frequently. Being from Charleston, South Carolina, we know good seafood, and The Crab Hut has good seafood. J & L"

  • "The spicy cajun chicken pasta was not at all spicy. In fact, the only flavor came from the bell peppers in the dish. The rest of the food (appetizers, entrees, and sides) was just okay. Between the three of us, we got over 10 different things to try and none of us would go back."
