Diner Reviews
  • "Made reservations for 1130 am when they opened and in the notes requested a window table. We were seated at a window with an unobstructed view. Watched the boats and water. Crab lasagna was to die for...will order again ddov"

  • "Our previous visit was not that great, but my husband & I love the CRABHOUSE so much that we could not stay away after one bad dining experience. I informed the hostess of this & they told our server, in which this then made our experience incredible :) Thank you! It was a special homecoming celebration for my husband."

  • "We had a great time bringing friends from out of town to this place. The server was friendly, attentative, but also let us spend a liesurely dinner catching up. The Lotsa Crab was the perfect amount for my boyfriend and I to split, and we enjoyed the garlic fries immensely."

  • "I thought the restaurant was going to be bigger. It's small and a bit cramped (on the side we were sitting on anyway). Service was great - our waitress and the busser were efficient and very friendly. The chowder was okay, very chunky. The garlic fries were VERY garlicky and delicious. We got the double shrimp and roasted garlic crab. It was good, but not great. We skipped dessert."

  • "For one of our birthdays, we decided to spend the day at Pier 39. We booked a reservation and requested a table near a window for a view. The service was excellent, the view was splendid, and the food came out quickly. The crab was one of the best we've had and the calamari comes with thin slices of fried lemons which were amazing. We have definitely recommended this restaurant to others since we've visited and we look forward to dining here again soon."

  • "Finger-licking good! I am a local and have tried other seafood/crab places in the Bay Area but I must say that their Killer Crabs are the best I've tasted. The service is commendable. Make sure you get a reservation because this place can really get busy. Double thumbs up!!!"

  • "Great crab and good service. surprising for a tourist place"

  • "Very delucious crab and shrimp! The service is also as good as the food there! Will be definitely coming back again when next time in SF! Tips: always book a table in advance via opentable coz they are really busy at night!"

  • "The food was great. The service was a little slow for a restaurant that was just starting night service and not totally full of patrons. The views were great. I will try the other restaurants on the pier for a better comparison. They were very accommodating I signed up for a 4:30pm reservation (only one available on open table) but asked the host upon arrival if I could push it back ab hour to allow for evening sight seeing and they were very accommodating."

  • "My two boys took me there for my 60th birthday and it could not have been a better experience. The food, forget about it, the drinks were perfect the overall experience was over the top. I have had crab literally all over the world and by far the Crab House has the best I have ever eaten. Go there with someone special and you will not be disappointed."

  • "We had the best time, no wait & food was delicious"

  • "We booked this restaurant because of the reviews but the food was very ordinary at best. I had the crab which was swimming in butter even though I asked for it on the side. I know it is meant to be a signature dish but I found It was too greasy, over flavoured with garlic to the point were garlic was the only flavour and the combination upset my stomach. The next night we went up the road further to Capurro's and enjoyed the most delicious steamed crab (garlic butter on the side), delightful staff and pleasant intimate decor at half the price."

  • "Great food! Muscles are the best I've tasted in a while. If you get seated by the window be prepared to feel like a tourist attraction - as people walk by they are curious what all the commotion is in the windows and look to see what you are earting. Back to the food - this place will tantalize all of your senses - we have been here 4 times now and each time we have not been disappointed. One of the times we went with a large group and although tight seating they made us feel comfortable and the wait staff was very attentive."

  • "Still the best dungeon crab you can get from Fishermans Wharf. Getting busier and busier every time. People lined up outside the front door 10 minutes before the opening. So you better reserve first before visiting. The food is very delicious as usual. We found it a bit loud this time and they don't really have too much spaces anyway."

  • "much worse than my first visit. I even ate sands in mussels!"

  • "The food was excellent. My wife and I shared the crab for two and it was out of this world. There was more than enough for two. Garlic fries are amazing. We liked this restaurant so much that we went back again before our trip ended. Make reservations as they are extremely busy."

  • "I am a picky eater, and have never liked crab.... until I came to the Crab House. The garlic, butter sauce that they cook the crab in is so amazingly delicious. This is my special occasion restaurant in SF, and although it is pretty cramped and loud, it is a unique experience that I highly recommend if you are in the area."

  • "there were lots of customers near the restaurant. But we can go inside when we made a reservation. We requested that we would like to seat near window side. They gave us the window side seat. We are very impressed their service too."

  • "I would say overall a really pleasing experience, staff professional, timely, courteous, friendly, all that should be Expected from a well trained staff in a high quality steak restaurant. Steaks are a bit pricey but that's to be expected with quality cuts Of beef , salads excellent, very fresh and flavorful. Steaks were seasoned just right."

  • "Been here 5 times. Ordered house special 2 lb crab. Dry as a bone, just horrible. Can't believe the chef let it go. Waitress wound't even offer anything but I'm sorry. How about bringing out a crab that was cooked right. So disappointing, something has changed here,"

  • "I would not normally recommend a tourist spot, but the Crab House has good food and a good view. Located on the 2nd level of Pier 39 it is easy for a lot of tourists to miss it. The crab cakes were good. Many San Francisco seafood restaurants serve a style of seafood that I call safe - not much spice. Being from New Orleans I miss spiciness. The cakes had plenty of crab and were much larger than what most restaurants serve. I think they would please most folks. The calamari was not notable. The dipping sauce was very good. The view is a great compliment to the nicely tiled decor in the restaurant. Below were the sea lions basking on the piers. In the distance a view of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Sausalito."

  • "Second time coming here. I was disappointed with where we were seated and when we asked to move the waitress said we had to get up and talk to the host at the front of the restaurant and didn't offer to bring him over to our table. I walked over and waited to talk to the host but he was busy with other guests which is when our food arrived. The seat was very uncomfortable, but the food was good. We ordered the garlic shrimp, whole crab and garlic friends. VERY garlicy food so if you don't like garlic you won't like this restaurant. I would recommend giving it a try but the service may be a hit or miss."

  • "We ate at the Crab House on a Sat. in November. It was a beautiful day and we had great views of both the water and the city. The service was great, food came out quickly and was good. We came for the crab. It was good, but prefer to not have so much butter."

  • "Their specialty crab was grilled in garlic butter, very rich and just not a great taste. Bread offered but isn't warmed. Just kinda blah experience when I was really looking forward to a great crab dinner while in S.F. I probably would have ordered something else but their menu doesn't have much. I went based on the reviews on Open Table and have to say I disagree. With so many great restaurants in S.F. I say skip this one."

  • "I had eaten twice at this restaurant 5 years ago, for the Crab specialty, and I came back with great expectations... I wasn't disappointed!! This crab is the best ever and I went twice, again.... It seems every time I will be in SF I will eat there!"

  • "We ordered the whole crab, crab cake, and chowder. the whole crab I believe it was fresh. but the oil and garlic covered all the freshness."

  • "I came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and stated it in my reservation. The management made it a special day by having great food and service. It was topped off with a complimentary dessert with a candle (thank you for not singing). My husband had a great birthday."

  • "Our family of four might have stayed all day and eaten ourselves to death on the crab... If we had unlimited funds... Amazing killer crabs and hands down the best garlic fries we've ever eaten anywhere. Loved the ambiance - sat next to the window and watched a lone sea lion in the water - so cool. Sat right down with our lunch reservation - perfect timing, great location at pier 39. Even the kids meal chicken breasts were delicious and made from scratch. Yum!"
