Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to this restaurant many times before and enjoyed the crab and garlic noodles. This trip was different in that the taste of the crabs was bland as was the garlic noodles. I don't know if the difference is because they've changed their recipes or I had a different chef cooking before, but the taste was definitely different - very bland. Although the food was ok, it wasn't as good as what I had in previous visits."

  • "The salivating waft of roasted garlic butter in the air became a yummy reality when our crabs hit the table. The taste of the crabs is simply fantastic. The garlic noodles were a very fitting accompaniment to our mail course. Our waiter was very attentive and made very helpful suggestions on our order which I appreciate very much. In the end the amount of food we order were enough for our party and with the right mix too. Thank you for a great crab dinner !"

  • "This is my sixth visit to the Crab House at Pier 39. As always, my guests were seated promptly and the wait staff was courteous and professional. We ordered our 'Killer Crabs', garlic fries and beers and were served in less than 10 minutes. I'll be back again to get my 'Killer Crab' fix!"

  • "Our food was phenomenal! The whole crab dinner was super yummy. My son had chicken alfredo and my husband had the fish sandwich. They both loved their meal too."

  • "Great place for any time you want to impress with the greatest crab and service in the world!"

  • "Quick service, very diligent and helpful waiters. Nice place on the pier with either the view on the water either the view (the one we had) on the pier side. Excellent seafood, especially the crab. Would recommend (early) reservation"

  • "Must make that reservation or you'll be waiting a long while. Good thing I did. Crabs on the skillet has lots and lots of garlic butter. So if you like that sort of oily seasoning on your seafood, good place to soak that up along with the scenery. Be prepared to break and fork out the crab meat as well as your wallet. It definitely doesn't come cheap. Enjoy if you do go though, one time is enough for me."

  • "Anyone looking for sweet, succulent crab should avoid this place. The 1/2 crab was overpriced, had skinny legs and no body, and was dripping in olive oil that came from a vat that needed to be discarded. The oil congealed and had a burned appearance on the cast iron platter on which the crab was served. The salad was no more than iceberg lettuce with a few machine-chopped tomatoes. The crab cocktail was a few shreds of crab served over iceberg lettuce. Some sauce was served on the side. When we told our waitress of our concerns, she acted like she had heard it all before and offered lemons to mask the grease. Skip this place."

  • "The place to eat at Pier 39. The garlic Dungeness crab is out of this world! We also had the shrimp and mussel plate and it came to the table sizzling and delicious! Go to the Crab House with a big appetite. You won't be sorry."

  • "My wife & I went to the Crab House for dinner. It has decent views of the bay and a relaxed atmosphere. The crab chowder was very good. A bowl is snout for two. We ordered Lotsa Crab which was plenty and very good. Lot of work and messy. Cheese fries were very good as well. "

  • "This place hit the spot. Very simple menu - crab, crab for 2, crab for 3, lots of crab. A bit messy for lunch but its to be expected. Crab cakes were ok and could be a bit larger. I recommend the shrimp/muscle appetizer. Comes out sizzling hot. I would go again."

  • "this is an overpriced tourist trap. Food is good but not worth 104 dollars for two people. They also charge you 1oo% alcohol tax fee. My wifes mojito was 9.95 and also the fee for it was the same. Ridiculous. Never again. Do not good. Save your money. "

  • "we come to San Francisco for business reasons every two/three years and we always go to Crab House for dinner, everything is perfect and we love the Killer Crab!"

  • "Our server was awful. He had an attitude and acted as if he did not want to be there. That absolutely ruined the experience for me. The food was pretty good (Whole crab) but the server made it an unpleasant experience. "

  • " We made a reservation and got a very nice, romantic booth. The service was great, always there for you with a quickness and a smile. "

  • "We arrived 5 minutes early and we were hassled by many employees and made to feel so uncomfortable we almost left. I would have left had my guest not wanted crab. We ordered the crab sandwich and it was very disappointing. It was rubbery and dry. I don't thin I would go back again. "

  • "I took my Australian cousins here since they wanted to see the Wharf and have a Crab dinner. They couldn't have been happier. Our Hostess and Wait person were outstanding. Everyone raved about the food. The only downside...if you have a party of 6 , the table is a little tight....other than that , the place was great. I had the best Bloody Mary ever! If you have out of town visitors, put this place on your list. Being in Pier 39 is an added attraction with out of towners..you can't go wrong."

  • "Some co-workers and I got together for this outing. We made reservations and were a little late. They still sat us down as soon as we got there! We ordered and the drinks, appetizers and main dishes took no time to come! Then atmosphere was fantastic! We thouroughly enjoyed ourselves! We definetly would come again! Thank you Crabhouse at Pier 39!"

  • "Made reservations for 1130 am when they opened and in the notes requested a window table. We were seated at a window with an unobstructed view. Watched the boats and water. Crab lasagna was to die for...will order again ddov"

  • "Our previous visit was not that great, but my husband & I love the CRABHOUSE so much that we could not stay away after one bad dining experience. I informed the hostess of this & they told our server, in which this then made our experience incredible :) Thank you! It was a special homecoming celebration for my husband."

  • "We had a great time bringing friends from out of town to this place. The server was friendly, attentative, but also let us spend a liesurely dinner catching up. The Lotsa Crab was the perfect amount for my boyfriend and I to split, and we enjoyed the garlic fries immensely."

  • "I thought the restaurant was going to be bigger. It's small and a bit cramped (on the side we were sitting on anyway). Service was great - our waitress and the busser were efficient and very friendly. The chowder was okay, very chunky. The garlic fries were VERY garlicky and delicious. We got the double shrimp and roasted garlic crab. It was good, but not great. We skipped dessert."

  • "Finger-licking good! I am a local and have tried other seafood/crab places in the Bay Area but I must say that their Killer Crabs are the best I've tasted. The service is commendable. Make sure you get a reservation because this place can really get busy. Double thumbs up!!!"

  • "Very delucious crab and shrimp! The service is also as good as the food there! Will be definitely coming back again when next time in SF! Tips: always book a table in advance via opentable coz they are really busy at night!"

  • "The food was great. The service was a little slow for a restaurant that was just starting night service and not totally full of patrons. The views were great. I will try the other restaurants on the pier for a better comparison. They were very accommodating I signed up for a 4:30pm reservation (only one available on open table) but asked the host upon arrival if I could push it back ab hour to allow for evening sight seeing and they were very accommodating."

  • "My two boys took me there for my 60th birthday and it could not have been a better experience. The food, forget about it, the drinks were perfect the overall experience was over the top. I have had crab literally all over the world and by far the Crab House has the best I have ever eaten. Go there with someone special and you will not be disappointed."

  • "We booked this restaurant because of the reviews but the food was very ordinary at best. I had the crab which was swimming in butter even though I asked for it on the side. I know it is meant to be a signature dish but I found It was too greasy, over flavoured with garlic to the point were garlic was the only flavour and the combination upset my stomach. The next night we went up the road further to Capurro's and enjoyed the most delicious steamed crab (garlic butter on the side), delightful staff and pleasant intimate decor at half the price."

  • "Still the best dungeon crab you can get from Fishermans Wharf. Getting busier and busier every time. People lined up outside the front door 10 minutes before the opening. So you better reserve first before visiting. The food is very delicious as usual. We found it a bit loud this time and they don't really have too much spaces anyway."

  • "much worse than my first visit. I even ate sands in mussels!"

  • "The food was excellent. My wife and I shared the crab for two and it was out of this world. There was more than enough for two. Garlic fries are amazing. We liked this restaurant so much that we went back again before our trip ended. Make reservations as they are extremely busy."

  • "I am a picky eater, and have never liked crab.... until I came to the Crab House. The garlic, butter sauce that they cook the crab in is so amazingly delicious. This is my special occasion restaurant in SF, and although it is pretty cramped and loud, it is a unique experience that I highly recommend if you are in the area."
