  • "The 7 cheese board was amazing. Server did a great presentation. French press coffee and desserts were excellent."

  • "Menu is pleasantly diverse, with a surprising number of seafood choices. Tasty food. Decent wine and beer list. Service got us out the door in plenty of time to make the curtain at the Allen."

  • "Excellent choices on the menu, very reasonably priced. Very good wine list by the glass"

  • "Our waitress at Cowell & Hubbard the other night demonstrated the right way to handle a mistake. We were served our dessert without the forks/knives that were needed to enjoy it. After waiting a few minutes for a server to come by, I had to get up and find someone. No big tragedy, but irritating in a restaurant of this class. When our waitress came by later as were enjoying the dessert, we mentioned what had happened. She came back to our table with complimentary glasses of an excellent Port to make amends.Obviously, mistakes happen. But it's very much appreciated when they're acknowledged and an effort made to make amends."

  • "The food was well prepared and very enjoyable. The service was very good, the staff pleasant, and the wine recommendations excellent. The noise level made it difficult to have a conversation at a table for two. Our table location was on the main drag. It seemed like everyone passed by our table."

  • "Cowell and Hubbard continues to be the go-to spot for pre-theater dining. Food is top notch, service is efficient and friendly, and they do a fine job of accommodating my wife's dietary needs. I probably should try other salads, but their sunchoke is a winner every time. For a light dessert, do try the apricot sorbet--delicious."

  • "Arrived a little late but no problem. We were on a time schedule and waitress was very accommodating. Food was very good. Tables are a bit too close and it is hard not to be a part of neighbors conversation"

  • "I am in the restaurant industry so I can often judge service with a very harsh eye. The service here has always been exceptional. It is by far the best service I have ever had. Juan has been my server twice now and both times has exceeded my expectations. Great job Cowell and Hubbard!! You are my go-to place when I want to impress!"

  • "My first time at restaurant. Had heard so many good reviews due to being owned by Zack Bruell. It was my husbands's birthday and we were headed to Playhouse Square so it was convenient. I'm a vegetarian who eats mostly vegan and I was eager to try the vegan menu. However, the tournedos of seitan dish I had was not good tasting at all. I could only eat two bites. I have no idea why the seasoning blend was considered a winner. And the mushroom ragout was cold! To top it off, the side dish of dauphinoise potatoes were served over cooked/burnt. However, my husband LOVED his beef shoulder dinner. He is still raving about how tender it was. And the servers were professional, prompt and friendly...and helpful."

  • "Zach Bruell has created another gem that does justice to the venerable Cowell & Hubbard location. Being on a schedule to get to a 7:30 play, we were seated promptly and the service proceeded smoothly. Our table was visited at least twice by the restaurant managers to ask how the meal was going. The food was excellent-perfectly done. We will be back again and again!"

  • "The service at Cowell & Hubbard was the best we have ever experienced. Our server's name was Juan and his attention to detail was outstanding. A timing issue for a pre-theater dinner was not even a concern given his attention to every detail. Our food was excellent as well--Veal Osso Bucco and Thai Mussels for entrees. Our salads were unusual but very good--cold broccoli salad and a chicken liver salad. Obviously, these are are items that would not appeal to everyone but we enjoyed our selections. The baked apple dessert was very good as was the coffee-flavored mousse my husband ordered. My recommendation is to seek out items on the menu that suit your tastes. I suspect they will not disappoint!"

  • "This is such a great restaurant. Excellent food and service. The staff is very aware if you have theater plans and get you out in time for your show without making you feel rushed. There's a nice bar crowd after the show , too."

  • "With the largest performing arts space outside of NYC there are a distinct lack of restaurants to eat before theater - thankfully Zach Bruell opened Cowell & Hubbard. The food is great, well priced and they are good at getting you in an out intime for the theater without sacrificing the quality of the dining experience."

  • "Had dinner before going to Playhouse Square. Staff was very friendly from the moment we walked in. Service was excellent Food was great. Had the Pork shank which was done perfectly and a ver good size (not the meal that is smaller than the garnish. The shank took the whole plate. Wine was delightful ( a good list). Staff was aware of our plans and made sure we were on our way in time for the play.but we never felt rushed. This was our first time at Cowell and Hubbard, but definitely not our last. Highly recommended."

  • "It was opening night of "Flashdance" at the Playhouse. Our waitress asked immediately if we were going to the Playhouse and we said "yes." She kept us informed of the time through out our meal. Nice gesture.... I had a delicious spring chicken entree. My husband had the Osso Bucco. It was very flavorable, but quite fatty."

  • "Went for a Saturday night date night. I had been a few times prior and was pleased. We arrived after the initial rush going to Playhouse, but were seated at an awkward table in the front. Staff was attentive, but the food was just average. The manager did take my wife's dinner off the check, but felt that the overall experience was just average. The dessert of phyllo, strawberrys and yogurt was outstanding, but it was the highlight of the dinner."

  • "I took my best friend here for her birthday because I heard they had great frog legs. She loved them and the chicken thighs she ordered for her entrée. I had the lamb shoulder, which was very good. After dinner they brought her a scoop of ice cream with a candle to celebrate. Wonderful experience."

  • "we are always looking for a place to dine after the shows at PlayhouseSquare. unfortunately there are only a few good restaurants around the area however we just found another one. Cowell & Hubbard. the best thing to start off with is a great waiter, and our waiter was fantastic. His name was Juan and he truly seem to enjoy his job. He offered many great suggestions and the three of us each decided to select a different meal. Our meals were fantastic and very creative. We will be back to try something different and we will want Juan."

  • "My wife and I are season ticket holders for the Broadway Series. We are always trying new things and looking for new great places. As we were going into Flashdance the other night I asked one of the Red Coats what time the show let out. I was already on the OpenTable app and quickly booked a 10pm seating at Cowell and Hubbard. The RC questioned "there are places in Cleveland to eat at 10 pm?" And I said, welcome to the new Cleveland. C and H was awesome as always. The view front the front dining room feels just like NY...I mean CLE!"

  • "Our second time at a Zack Bruell restaurant and food again was fantastic. Very flavorful and well prepared and presented. We enjoy escargot and wondered how their version would be as it sounded a bit odd. No need to worry, it knocked our socks off. Prices are not bad for a fine dining restaurant but as in most places the wine mark up is too high. They need to add some quality lower priced wines to their list to give people who do not want to double their bill still enjoy a nice glass or two. Service was outstanding. The young lady was obviously well trained. Her demeanor had just the right amount of professionalism mixed with a pleasant personality. We were never rushed even though they were full. We will be back."

  • "We continue to enjoy every aspect of the Cowell and Hubbard experience....great service, superb food, charming/efficient staff....and the valet service makes everything more convenient (that staff is charming and helpful, as well). Keep up your high standards....what a great way to begin the weekend."

  • "As Broadway Series subscribers we are always looking for a place to eat before our monthly show. This month we tried Cowell & Hubbard, a short walk from the theaters. We were greeted upon arrival and immediately seated. The wait staff for the evening was efficient and friendly. Although the wait time for the food was a bit longer than we anticipated it was definitely worth it! The seared shrimp, with quinoa and green beans was absolutely out of this world. Beef shank that melted in your mouth was another selection while the lamb with mashed fingerling potatoes or French fries proved to be a winner, also. Save room for dessert because the meringue with caramel sea salt ice cream was fantastic. The flourless chocolate cake was delicious!"

  • "I took my Mother to Cowell & Hubbard as part one of her birthday celebration. The food was delicous, the servers were efficient and friendly frequently checking on us. I just loved how they all wore ties. Overall, we enjoyed our dining experience and will be going back in the near future!"

  • "Fabuluos food and our server was outstanding accommodating our late arrival due to traffic. However, noice level is still too high. Our party of 4 had difficulty carrying on a conversation without raising our voices to a level that would include nearby diners in our conversation. Definitely a "go to" place on theater nights."

  • "My most recent visit was my fourth time to dine here. Incredibly, each time has been better than the previous visits. The food was amazing: I had the incredibly delicious wild boar (it is better than bacon!) and my date the veal osso buco (which literally melted in your mouth). Loretta, our server, was phenomenal and made certain that we had plenty of time to make it to see the play at Cleveland Playhouse. I am looking forward to returning soon!"

  • "Since it was my wife's birthday I wanted a nice dinner close to the theater and C&H fit the bill. Food was excellent and the walk to and from the theater is only one block with no streets to cross. Service had a little glitch due to the theater rush and a spilled glass of wine, but the asst manager quickly stepped in to help the waitress."

  • "My fish was raw. We were squished between two groups of loud 20-something's. Not exactly what I had in mind when I requested a private table. Service was poor. Waiter was not friendly. They kept the front doors open in 30 degree temps and cigarette smoke was billowing in. Very bad experience."

  • "North Atlantic Cod was perfestly prepared and delicious. Servers with bread were very attentive. Staff made certain we were finished in time for the 6:45 pre-show discussion at the Allen Theatre"

  • "Have never had a bad meal (or item on the menu) after many visits. The seafood dumplings, osso bucco and braised lamb all were outstanding on this visit. Desserts are always excellent."

  • "Excellent location for a meal before a show at Playhouse Square. The cod and whitefish dishes were flavorful and cooked perfectly. I was a little underwhelmed with the service...it took a while for our server to come to our table, she missed telling us the dinner specials that were available and we felt a but forgotten about. It was a show night, but it was not full and they seemed to be well-staffed...perhaps it was just an off day for her."

  • "We were there on a Friday night before a theater show. The restaurant is well situated for this and at 5:30, the place was packed. The bar service was off -- way off. Our initial order of drinks (which we ordered before our food) did not arrive until the appetizer was served. And the drinks were tiny! 5 oz. martinis at best. You'd better order a couple of them given the slow bar service and size. Our overly energetic wait person was pretty good for the number of tables she had, but she mentioned the service was supposed to be "team" service so we might see others deliver our food, etc. We never saw anyone other than our overworked wait person the whole evening. Food is really good but the rest is not up to snuff for Zach Bruell."

  • "We dined at Cowell and Hubbard before a show at Playhouse Square. The service was very speedy (but not rushed!) and our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed our food and cocktails. If you are ever going to order dessert, order dessert at a Zach Bruell restaurant. We had the Linzer Torte which was phenomenal. A lot of restaurants put all their effort into appetizers and entrees and then dessert is lackluster. Not at Cowell and Hubbard."

  • "we heard about this through some friends that were at the film festival with us. were able to get a later reservation. restaurant was pretty empty just because we were so much later but service was excellent. wine list offered a nice variety and selection. our meals were great would definitely go back when returning to the city."

  • "Good food. Great spot to eat before a play. They make sure you ae out on time"

  • "Food was very good and the experience was nice. Close proximity to Playhouse Square made this appealing. This is my second visit to the restaurant and the food was great both times. The drinks were good as well, but a bit on the pricey side. The food itself was reasonably priced and the ambiance was nice. The service was solid at the beginning of the meal but once the food came the waiter barely came over, let alone looked in our direction. We wanted to get a refill of coffee but waited nearly 10 minutes to do so. Our first dining experience there had excellent service so don't let that detract you for going."
