Mother's DayI took my mom here for Mother's Day, it was our first time. I have the pleasure of knowing the new sous chef there, Chris, he made the experience extra special for the both of us. Our server, Jeremey, was very friendly and attentive. The whole staff was extremely accommodating and attentive. Couldn't recommend this spot more! The sweet potato fires were very good. The service was good. The ambience is nice. The service stellar, the steak cooked perfectly, the mashed potatoes oddly awesome, kitchen staff accommodating with our desired vegetable change ( 30% of the world will always find asparagus bitter and yucky but the green beans were perfect! The only negatives, the wine list did not impress me, relied too heavily on young wines from the northwest and frankly just over marked up. Restaurants that realize they will sell more of the higher priced bottles if they do not try double or triple the cost of bottle of wine that retails for $75-100 are my heroes. C-Star would do well do reevaluate pricing. Also consider adding more non seafood apps!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely check it out!Really liked it overall. Had an excellent Manhattan with house made bitters. Nice wine list--affordable, tasty selections: we had a nice red from Washington state at $50, which for a downtown restaurant ain't bad! Sweetbreads had a nice flavor, but a hint over done. Charcuterie plate was so so--appreciated the artisanal factor, but not the best flavor. Nice beet salad. And the meat...what can you say? Delicious, red meat. Bone in strip was very good, but the ribeye was excellent! Our server recommended the chocolate chip bread pudding: awesome. Our server was spot on, nice guy, and he put up with us as we got drunker through dinner. Everything we tried was tasty, well prepared and nicely presented. The Lobster Risotto appetizer was especially nice as was the sea scallop entree. Bread pudding was nice to share. We had enjoyed this place when they first opened but had not been back as we live in North County. The steaks at this restaurantare not compareable to a donovans or a ruth kris steak and they're around the same price. The food is always incredible, my favorite besides the meat is the mac and cheese, which has been prepared differently each time I've been. The cocktail menu offers a variety of great selections, my favorite is The Outlaw. We agreed that we have had better steak other places, but it was still quite good. The highlight of the night was the chocolate bread pudding dessert. Don't waste your time with Donovans or any of the other chains... this is the spot. Great inventive sides, solid service, in a cozy spot. Great for groups, can walk here from nearly any downtown hotel, blocks from after hours drinks. Been coming here for two years... and make a point of coming once a month or so.

A definite must is to sit at the "Kitchen Table" - A bar facing into the kitchen and watch all the food prep. Had great conversations with head chef and owner at that spot. The food was outstanding - a filet cooked to perfection, asparagus that were delicious, and then finished with berries and sorbet to die for ... The owner told me about the special ranches that he gets his beef. Catering to all our needs at the perfect time. I definitely would return to try more dishes. The Macaroni and Cheese was amazing and the Spring Mix salad was refreshing.– We enjoyed the flat iron steak as well as the top sirloin steak. Cooked as requested. Unique cocktails we're a surprise.
