  • "The food and service were excellent. Parking was a bit of a challenge, but Cowboy Star is located downtown."

  • "What a find. Visited San Diego and hotel recommended. Awesome steaks. Perfect portions. Great customer service. They were out of their so called "aged meat" which was supposed to be aged for 35 days. That represented 4 out of 8 steaks that weren't available."

  • "Ambiance much nicer than expected, without feeling pretentious. The filets we're perfectly cooked and not too small. The wagyu beef was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Each came with a side of mashed potatoes, which were exceptional. The veggie was a couple of stalks of broccollini, wish there was more, the portion was a bit skimpy. Same goes for the salad-- way overpriced for what was received. A starter salad for $12 is crazy to start, and then when it's a few pieces of lettuce and a slice of radish, it's just comical. Wine was also more over-priced than usual. Bottles that I know are $20ish dollars were listed in the triple-digits."

  • "On vacation from the UK, we have visited CStar before and this visit did not disappoint. Great steaks, good choice of wines and fine ambience make for a really enjoyable dining experience. Would we visit again? Yes!"

  • "I was very disappointed in the rib eye steak that I had. It is my favorite cut if meat and I am happy to pay a premium for quality any time. This was not quality. I am not comfortable complaining so I did not inform the waiter. There are many great restaurants in San Diego to eat and I will not go back to this one."

  • "This place is amazing ! Everyone treated us with respect and professionalism fit for a great restaurant like this. They all went the "extra mile" to make our dining experience one we will not forget. Every single thing we put in our mouths was a culinary masterpiece, a wealth of flavors, and a satisfying experience. Please treat yourself to this truly great place to eat in San Diego!"

  • "Went for our boy's birthday dinner. They personalized our menu with a birthday wish. That was v nice. Ordered d Caesar salad and crab cakes n those were too salty! However, the New York steak with mash potatoes n broccolini were AMAZING! The bacon mac and cheese were a little over cooked. Overall, nice restaurant with gd service."

  • "Enjoyed our whole experience here. The steaks were very good, the mac & cheese divine and the Ceasar salad, excellent! Service was pleasant & not overbearing. We liked that it was not a chain steak-place because attention to detail prevailed. On a side note, it was fun to see many of the foods featured were from my state of Washington & I'm confident of their superior quality. Will return, for sure."

  • "This has been our go-to restaurant for all special occasions for a few years now. We love the all-natural steaks, plus the other items have always been very tasty. We've always felt that it was expensive but worth it for a splurge. However, on our most recent visit, we noticed the prices had gone up, plus they now charge $4 if you want extra veggies instead of mashed potatoes. I realize $4 is nothing when you're already spending $45-60 for a steak or fish, plus $12-15 for a salad or starter, plus $12 or so for dessert, and a few bucks for an iced tea. But it makes me feel ripped off. I don't like feeling that way, so we're now looking for new places to try."

  • "I was really looking forward to dine at this restaurant, since I have a good friend that highly recommended , all I can said is that the service was good and friendly, however did not care much about the taste of the food since our stakes were flavorless, It tasted like the meat has been under water for a long time. Believed or not Outback Restaurant cooks a more tasty steaks for $20.00 and that is disappointing."

  • "We were taken into our table without any wait. Service was attentive. Our busboy had a good sense of humor and we really enjoyed him! We had crab cakes and scallop and lobster mushrooms as an appetizer. The crab cakes were FABULOUS, the mushroom dish was very good but not over the top. The 6oz Wagyu cut, rib eye and filet were all excellent, very flavorful. We really liked that they all came with garlic potatoes and greens, so we did not have to order separate sides. However, we did try the mac and cheese and bone marrow which were also very tasty. The creme brule and strawberry shortcake were a perfect ending to the meal. Overall, we will come back!"

  • "Celebrated our 1st yr wedding anniversary at cowboys stars. It was our 1st time there and we will surely come back. The staff and servers are really nice. And the complimentary cucumber salad from the chef was really refreshing. We ordered filet mignon and dry aged beef. One of the best steaks we had and my crab cake is really good. And the best thing about the dinner is that our server really knows their food because we will ask him about the good ones and the dessert that he recommended was really good that even though i was sooo full i cannot stop from eating their Chocolate bread pudding. We will definitely come back and try chef tasting."

  • "The hostesses, busboy and Manager, Luke Elms, were wonderful. Unfortunately our server, Joshua, was awful, rude, surly, inattentive and the reason we will not return. There are too many steak houses in San Diego with delightful service, too bad this wasn't one of them."

  • "I have dinned twice now at Cowboy Star and both times I have really enjoyed the friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating staff. Food is great, I really enjoyed the dried meat and cheese appetizer plate. I have had the Rib eye and the skirt steak, both where fantastic!"

  • "Cowboy star is known for their steaks. My husband said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had. I don't eat steak and unfortunately they were out of the fish dish I wanted, but Jeremy was attune to my needs and made sure my dinner was just as good as the rest of our party. I think he was the best part of our meal, very personable and very attentive, but not hovering. Thanks for a great night out."

  • "Finally tried this great restaurant for my friend's Birthday. We loved that they put his name on our menus and remembered his name at the end of dinner. Our table was very cozy near the fireplace, although the table itself was a bit too small and awkward. The fresh oysters were gorgeous and delicious; the crab cake was very good; the drinks were all very tasty. THEN there were the steaks! My friend had the Waygu New York which was incredible, not like any other New York I have ever tasted. I had the special bone-in dry aged rib-eye, which may have been a bit rare (my fault), but the Oscar topping was indescribably yummy! $$$$ but worth it for a special occasion. I will go there again!"

  • "We had two servers, Josh and Veronica, and they both were exceptional. The food was incredible the atmosphere was wonderful for a birthday celebration for my friend. Everything was great, but most of all I have to commend Josh and Veronica for making our experience that much more special. Well done Cowboy Star. Thank You"

  • "Cowboy star is one of my husband and I favorite restaurant. I'm not a steak person, but my husband is, and states that Cowboy Star's is the best one he's had so far. He also loves their mixed drinks, the Smoking Gun in particular. I love their salads, bread and their specials vegetarian or poultry dishes they have during the season, always unique, different and very delicious. Their service is the best. Our waiter always treats us well. They're also honest when asked for their opinion. Surprisingly, unlike most waiters who states that everything in the menu is their favorite. Try the chocolate bread pudding, its the best bread pudding I've ever had."

  • "A local Bartender recommended this restaurant since we are "from-out-of-town" and it was absolutely DELICIOUS!! The food, service and ambience were all 5 STARS. WE have never eaten a steak so tender and perfectly cooked at a restaurant. This restaurant was such a great suggestion, we will be back here on our next visit to San Diego!"

  • "Once again we had an amazing meal. We had family visiting from out of town and did not think twice when we decided to take them here for dinner. Best steaks in town."

  • "We are always pleased with the food here. This time, we ordered the oyster special and we were floored by how good they were. We actually had to order some more! Throw in a TBone and a filet with black truffles, and it was a great meal. We will be back again."

  • "The food and ambiance were fantastic. The service was impeccable without being obsequious. I would like to see the menu expanded. I am not a big meat eater but my spouse is. I felt that my choices were limited but what I did get (crab cake) was delicious. The Strawberry Shortcake was perfection. We will definitely be back. The ambiance was good I did enjoy the look and feel of the restaurant; the old timey cowboy music could be improved with some Western Swing i.e. Bob Wills, Asleep at the Wheel. The look of the staff although very professional was a bit incongruent with the ambiance."

  • "My family and I dined at your restaurant for the first time last Friday. Each appetizer and entree that was recommended was a hit. I've never had a more juicy and tender steak (14 oz. Ribeye bone in Steak) and very delicious We also loved the crab cake, grilled asparagus, roasted mushrooms and bread pudding. We will recommend your restaurant to all our friends & family. Thank you."

  • "Had dinner twice this weekend at Cowboy Star. I knew the food was going to be good but was blown away by the quality, creativity and execution. The staff could not have been more courteous or helpful. The steak tartare was the best I have had- had to go back for it the next evening. Desserts were interesting and creative. It was an experience to remember and repeat!! Great ambience and very comfortable."

  • "I hosted a group of friends with varying tastes in food and wanted something very safe. Cowboy Star presented a nice option and we had a very good dinner. The steaks are the main focus here, and are served a la carte, much like other fine steakhouses. Service was attentive and the suggestions turned out very well. Even one of the diners who wanted hers done "well" (gasp) commented that the NY Strip was as tender as she'd ever tasted. The bread pudding for dessert was a sinfully delicious way to end a nice meal. The wine and cocktail selection are extensive and should satisfy any connoisseur of hand crafted libations. Give this place a try in Downtown San Diego."

  • "Booked a six-person reservation for my group and Cowboy Star was able to accommodate two extras when I called the day of- the first experience of their generous service. The occasion for the group meal was my upcoming move out of the country and a friend of mine even called ahead to get personalized menus printed for the dinner! Amazing. Great attentiveness by the servers, engaging the table and making the dinner that much more enjoyable. Beyond the service, it goes without saying that Cowboy Star is the best steak that you can get anywhere in San Diego. If I wasn't living across the world, I'd be back for another special occasion in a heartbeat."

  • "Cowboy Star is my go-to spot for special business lunches for a couple of years if not more. The burger f/k/a "Jon's Favorite" was not as good as usual and the fries seemed old. I'll give it another shot but this particular lunch was concerning - especially since I recommended the location."

  • "Bottom line the best steakhouse in San Diego. Great everything. Their wines are marked up quite a bit more than usual and would love to have the wines priced at market values. A very nice place overall. Other than the wine prices and a lack of a dress code ( $400.00 dinner sitting next to a guy in a affliction T-shirt, cut jean shorts and J-cruisers and his lady dressed like a Game of Throned wildling) this is a great place."

  • "The food was fantastic, but I was really impressed by our waiter. He was the perfect balance of friendly, attentive, knowledgable, and funny, adding to our experience without trying to overshadow it. It's something you don't see often, so worth appreciating. As for the food, best steak I've had in SD, perfectly cooked for each of us, even though my family's tastes run from rare to medium well. The space itself could be in Manhattan, warm, interesting, but simple. I hope the designer won an award."

  • "San Diego's best steak house. They have an open kitchen concept if you sit at kitchen bar please do, its really fun to watch the chefs. The steaks are very tasty, the apps are complex and enjoyable. I have the mushroom appetizer and rib steak. Thy also have great wives by the glass."

  • "This was one of the best meals that I've ever had. The food was so good (get the bread pudding!) and the service was out of this world. You will not regret the money you spend here!"
