Well worth the visit. Service was excellent, everyone was attentive but not overbearing. Loved the decor and the overall feeling of the place. Food was FABULOUS. I admit to being a steak snob, that said, my New York Steak was not only cooked to perfection, it was a beautiful cut of meat . Felt the price was in line for the entree we got. The salad and dessert, although delicious, were a bit overpriced. Although it was an open kitchen, the noise from pots and pans was not distinguishable. Next time, and there WILL be a next time, I would either request a booth or to sit at the counter as to watch the final food prep. Only negative is our waiter would not remove our plates, instead he left them for the busser to handle.

We made a reservation and requested a booth. We were seated at a small booth that was within 2 feet of a busboy's station and had a table that was smaller than a cocktail lounge table so we asked to be seated at another booth. We were told "sorry, we are all booked tonight and that is all we had" by what looked to be a manager in a suit. Finally seated at a "4 top" that was not a booth thanks to a caring hostess. Ordered the special hors d'oeuvre and it came out cold. Ordered the house special steak cut and it was chewy. My spouse's meal came with the wrong side. Server was excellent and tried to overcome the management flaws and substandard food and performance from the kitchen. Not our first bad experience here but our last.

Our son recommended we take his father, my husband, to Cowboy Star for his birthday because he had eaten there previously and enjoyed it. From the moment the four of us entered, we were well cared for. Our server was delightful, informative, not pushy and genuinely appeared to be having as much fun as we were. The restaurant prepared special menus with a Happy Birthday message to my husband that we later took home. The food was delicious and the presentation had a lot of eye appeal. We look forward to the next time.

Cowboy Star was very good. My son and I went because we had heard that they had excellent Rib-eye steaks there. The steaks were very good. The cooks made a mistake on our order and cooked my sons steak the way I wanted it and my steak the way he wanted it. Other than that we were very satisfied.

Best steak in the State! What an exceptional dinner. Well presented, perfectly prepared, artistic and very ample portions. We split the rib-eye, had room for the fabulous sweet corn chowder with salad and dessert! We had our 3 year old grandson and he was welcome and well fed. This place can be elegant and friendly at the same time. Hats off to Chef Victor for putting together a wonderful dinning experience with all the right touches, people and food. We will be back!

If we weren't literally sweating from the heat, we would have been happier. The almost $50 aged rib-eye was NOT up to par at all, but the tartare appetizer was deicious as were the moule frites. Great service and great atmosphere. Get the air fixed and don't send out sub-par steaks and we might be back.

Hip, retro-western, pricey, but with naturally-raised--no hormones/antibiotics--beef. More than a steakhouse...there's elk, duck, bison, even a vegan plate. Choose from "composed plates" or the steaks, which come with vegetable and mashed potatoes. Add toppings, and sides at extra cost. We had very good service, a very good meal, and a very nice time. A good alternative to the stuffier steak chains.

Fantastic service, great menu options and drinks (the cocktail menu is really interesting and innovative). The food was very well cooked and tasty. Food is fantastic- pricey but along the lines of Ruth Chris but more authentic with better cuts of meats, and fantastic sides. Extensive wine list but I actually prefer their cocktails. I'll go there just for drinks at the bar and not eat there sometimes. The bar is very noisy, but the restaurant isn't.

Ambiance much nicer than expected, without feeling pretentious. The filets we're perfectly cooked and not too small. The wagyu beef was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Each came with a side of mashed potatoes, which were exceptional. The veggie was a couple of stalks of broccollini, wish there was more, the portion was a bit skimpy. Same goes for the salad-- way overpriced for what was received. A starter salad for $12 is crazy to start, and then when it's a few pieces of lettuce and a slice of radish, it's just comical. Wine was also more over-priced than usual. Bottles that I know are $20ish dollars were listed in the triple-digits.

I was very disappointed in the rib eye steak that I had. It is my favorite cut if meat and I am happy to pay a premium for quality any time. This was not quality. I am not comfortable complaining so I did not inform the waiter. There are many great restaurants in San Diego to eat and I will not go back to this one.

Enjoyed our whole experience here. The steaks were very good, the mac & cheese divine and the Ceasar salad, excellent! Service was pleasant & not overbearing. We liked that it was not a chain steak-place because attention to detail prevailed. On a side note, it was fun to see many of the foods featured were from my state of Washington & I'm confident of their superior quality. Will return, for sure.

This has been our go-to restaurant for all special occasions for a few years now. We love the all-natural steaks, plus the other items have always been very tasty. We've always felt that it was expensive but worth it for a splurge. However, on our most recent visit, we noticed the prices had gone up, plus they now charge $4 if you want extra veggies instead of mashed potatoes. I realize $4 is nothing when you're already spending $45-60 for a steak or fish, plus $12-15 for a salad or starter, plus $12 or so for dessert, and a few bucks for an iced tea. But it makes me feel ripped off. I don't like feeling that way, so we're now looking for new places to try.
