CourgetteGreat Pre-FixFor $19 lunch I had the arugula salad with duck and the risotto for entrée. Both were excellent and I can't wait to go back again. My customer enjoyed his meal as well.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was outstanding, MaitreFood was outstanding, Maitre was exceptional, waiter was friendly, but so very slow......6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMA wow across from City CenterThe entire experience was exceptional. From drinks to dessert, tastes were clean and interesting. I can't wait to go back.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was good. AtmosphereFood was good. Atmosphere is nice. Service is friendly.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Midtown FindWaiter was very attentive and friendly. Halibut and creme brûlée were delicious!5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite restaurantWe keep trying new things on the menu but find it hard to leave the oysters, the scallops and the Halibut. Last night was a pasta special so we started with the special salmon smoked under a cloche with red caviar and horseradish mousse...OMG! Then we had oysters and a special penne with Duck Bolognese...oh yes, and halibut...not a scrap left on anyone's plate. We had a special dessert with a teeny crème brulée and a banana napoleon and Nutella cookie. BTW the single espresso is like a double and the wine is a hefty portion if you buy by the glass. We had the Chianti and the Stags Leap Chardonnay. Our evening was made even better by the fabulous Rocky (waiter extraordinaire) and Gianni, the great maître d. Why go anywhere else?5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMSome pluses and minusesMy husband and I had dinner on a Saturday at 6:00 reservation, which is early for New York. The place started to fill up while we were there, so the atmosphere was energetic and fun.
Our waiter was friendly, attentive and knew the menu.
Some of our courses were better than others. The cherry tomato bruschetta needed garlic and/or salt, but was otherwise fresh and pretty. Hubby had the shepherd's pie app for his main course. It was a huge portion and the best thing we ate all night - really good. I had branzino - smallest I'd ever had, a little bland, but good. Asparagus side was underdone and tough. Fries side was okay, not the best we'd ever had.
Apricot tart and traditional dessert were delicious.
Reasonable by NY standards.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch deal with twoGreat brunch deal with two courses and unlimited mimosas, bellinis or oj. The portions were more substantial than I expected, and the manager came to check on us a few times. It was not crowded, and we enjoyed a very leisurely meal - a nice reprieve from the hectic weekend brunch scene!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWow and how!Yes, they have a GREAT happy hour with half-price drinks, but the biggest attraction is the FABULOUS food and the brilliant waiter, Rocky, a terrific guide to their culinary delights. Though not inexpensive, you'll feel it's worth it for such comfortable surroundings and beautiful ambience. You will love specialties like the Sunchoke soup with truffle oil and on Tuesdays, with plump Hommock oysters a cool 99 cents, you can down a dozen without pain. Yummy desserts and a very generous espresso leave you looking forward to your next visit. And it's close to City Center and Carnegie Hall.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMService needs a little workI chose Courgette because it had last minute availability for a group of 8. The staff called to confirm the day of my reservation and when I arrived they were incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food is great here, prefect small plate appetizers to share and the salad I ordered was quite good.
Our particular waiter was a bit slow, and occasionally rude as we had some members of the party who did not order entrees. He also told us that doing individual checks would be "very hard for him" and asked that we split it up ourselves.
Overall the experience was good and the attentiveness of the host (who even comped two drinks because of the slow service) made up for our waiter.
Will give this place another try.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMVery delightful first experienceMarvelous service, food very good, lovely ambience.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!If you like the post-industrial type of decor you will like this place. The ambiance was on the quieter side yet lively. Music was low so overall i did not have to yell. Staff was very friendly and asked for feedback at the end of our meal. Cuisine is French influenced to me and very tasty. The menu has vegetarian options and desserts are not over-priced and very good. I recommend the creme brulee trio. The place has a variety of seafood options too.
To me this is a find because it is unpretentious, reasonably priced and yet very good food.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find!My experience at Courgette was even better than the reviews. All the food was delicious, particularly the smoked salmon appetizers. Very fun signature cocktails with a diverse and interesting wine list, plus a generous happy hour. Giovanni took outstanding care of us.
I highly recommend this restaurant and look forward to returning!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasant SurpriseWe visited the restaurant because it was very close to our hotel and given the mixed reviews I wasn't expecting a lot. From my visit the negative reviewes weren't warranted. The food was very good (the cheese plate was one of the best I've had), the servers and Maitre De went our of their way to please, and the wine selection was respectful...and at the end the prices were reasonable (by NYC standards).5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious black pasta.A great choice pre-theatre. It was like being in northern Italy. Reasonable pricing and excellent, friendly service.
We will be back. The halibut was perfect and the black pasta a favorite.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMamazing serviceour waiter was amazing. he seemed to truly love working there and genuinely liked interacting with guests. the food was absolutely delicious. everything the waiter recommended was divine (scallops, beef tartare, halibut, etc.) the place is on the small side but can accommodate groups. i loved the decor, especially the tootsie pop art.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMCourgette is recommendableThis was our first time at Courgette and we loved it. The interior design has been designed to accommodate stylish as well as casual dining. The decoration and furniture is well balanced and very tasteful.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place was amazing. HadThis place was amazing. Had a living social coupon, and was completely wowed!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and service.Excellent food and service. We went there because of a Living Social offer, but will definately return because of the wonderful inventive tasty food and superior service. We recommend the scallops with mashed mushroom potatoes, the duck, the halibut and the branzino. Looking forward to our next visit there! A real hidden gem.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMexcellent was there as itexcellent was there as it was opening . Now all the kinks are gone4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely new and much neededA lovely new and much needed restaurant in the theater district, as well as being convenient to City Center and Carnegie Hall. The decor is contemporary and warm. I give this restaurant a warm recommendation.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentImaginative and delicious. Shepherd's Pie alone will make me a repeat customer.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and creative foodDelicious and creative food with wonderful presentation. My steak tartare appetizer was amazing and everyone couldn't get over the presentation of the salmon appetizer. Our wait staff was friendly, but we had told them we had a 7:30 curtain and yet it still took prompting to get the bill processed to get out the door.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNo Zucchini but Great SalmonA combination bar and bistro with a nightclub on the floor beneath, Courgette combines super-friendly service with contemporary cuisine with a twist. Salmon 132F is a cylinder of salmon heated to that temperature and then put in a glass and smoked. It comes to the table covered and the smoke is released. It was delicate and tasty and accompanied by a bit of horseradish mousse and two miniature poached eggs and a few micro greens. My second course of buffalo mozzarella (billed as burrata, but not really) was elegantly presented alongside a stem of blistered cherry tomatoes with a basil oil. There seemed to be some stray cilantro leaves which detracted from the overall great flavor. Only open about 6 months, this is a place worth trying!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMI really like this placeThis was our second time at Courgette. We sat in the bar area which has a cozy feel to it. The appetizers, salads, pasta and fish dishes were all well prepared and delicious. Lots of nice choices. Our server, Rocky, was especially helpful and eager to please.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a find! What a find in the theatre district! A wonderful, funky, unique restaurant! Great menu, individual attention, wonderful waitstaff. We will, now that we have found Courgette, be returning frequently.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat New Addition to Midtowon WestCourgette is a welcome addition to Midtown West's dining scene. The restaurant has a very attractive if a little overly trendy) decor. We started with the scallops and bruschetta and had the Pan Roasted Striped Bass and Acquerello Risotto. All of them were delicious and the Bass was outstanding. The staff were very gracious and accommodating. The wine list is also more reasonably priced than most. The only suggestion I have is that they need to lower the volume of music which comes into the dinning area from the bar in the front.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding ambiance and veryOutstanding ambiance and very good service. However, we were disappointed that (despite an early, 5:30pm arrival) many items on the appetizer, main course and dessert menus were not available -- including one of the "specials of the day" prominently showcased at the front of the restaurant. If that issue were resolved, we would be interested in returning.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous meal, great service,Fabulous meal, great service, and brilliant ambience3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMA notable first visitFirst time at this restaurant, and it was a very pleasant experience at lunch. Only small complaint is that the music is a little loud, but excellent food and service, and an attractive room. Prix fixe lunch menu is a value. I will definitely return.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was delicious andThe food was delicious and cooked to perfection and the portions were substantial. The vegetables were not overcooked - a pet peeve of mine. If the bread were warmed, I would have given food a higher score. Our servers were very attentive. I would have given them a higher service score if I had received the candle in my date's dessert that I had requested when making the reservation - we were celebrating his birthday. Loved the atmosphere! I would highly recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood, or as a pre-theater/pre-opera restaurant.12/29/2012 12:00:00 AMDelightful!Took a friend from Stockholm to lunch at Courgette over the holidays and found it delightful. The food was delicious, our corner table in the back room gave us privacy to chat and catch up, and the wine list was lovely. Courgette has a nice, casual but classy vibe and is a nice new addition to the midtown neighbourhood near Carnegie Hall and definitely worth a try.12/26/2012 12:00:00 AMAmazing experience in theAmazing experience in the heart of Midtown,
the cheeses and chacuteri selections were excellent, loved
their wine selection. Service was warm and genuine.
Will be returning soon!12/17/2012 12:00:00 AMGo for the foodEnjoyed the food - was better than expected. The bump in our road was their wine list which has a few pages and has few great selections. What's more, it isn't kept updated so with the first choice, the vintage was different (which can happen but should be pointed out by an attentive server)and they were out of our 2nd choice - we were presented a 3rd alternative that was not as good as what we selected - In all, not the place you go for the wine list. But - food might be worth a repeat visit as well as the dark cozy space.11/29/2012 12:00:00 AM
