Diner Reviews
  • "We had a 7:30 reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant was packed and there were only two waitresses on the floor, so the wait was a bit long. I ordered the fried chicken, which sounded delicious on the menu. When it arrived, it was beautiful. I sliced into the chicken and saw RED, literally. The chicken was woefully undercooked. I flagged down the hostess, which later I found out was the owner. She took my dinner back and I placed an order for the burger, which turned out to be excellent! The hostess/owner came back over to the table before the burger arrived and said that, ". . . because the chicken was a thigh, it was cooked correctly." I could not believe what I was hearing; I am not a fan of chicken sushi!"

  • "We knew little about County so were surprised to discover such a neighborhood treat excellent food, warm atmosphere, very lively. The short ribs are outstanding!"

  • "I was just looking for something light and easy around the Flatiron neighborhood and to my delight this place was perfect! The ricotta is to die for and I have decided to go back by myself to sit at the bar with a plate of it! Still dreaming about it."

  • "This was my third visit to County and it's such a charming place with great food and warm, sincere service. It's never overly crowded, but I tell everyone I know about it in hopes that it succeeds."

  • "I recently brought my two good friends to County for lunch, one in from Colorado and the other from New Jersey. I had dined at County before with my company so knew the food would be great. Although the last time I was in there were many more vegetarian options, which was a consideration as one of my friends is a vegetarian there were still enough choices that she was happy. The food was terrific, I had the shrimp salad, my friends the frittata and Pork Belly dish-for starters we had tomato and Mozzarella and finished up with crème broule and popcorn sundaes! YUM!! We hadn't seen each other in 20 years so we sat for a good two hours and the staff was nothing but gracious and welcoming!! Will definitely be dining here again!"

  • "Such a nice looking restaurant - but the service and the food could not keep up. Everyone was very nice - it is not an attitude problem! It was an aptitude problem. Went for a 1 PM Sunday Brunch - and the restaurant was over half empty - yet they seemed to struggle to figure out how to seat, wait on, serve the small number of patrons. Lot's of running around - not much getting done. Not sure if roles / responsibilities had been clearly defined to those working. Not sure how they would fare if they had a full house. Food was fine - rather basic - wonderful bacon!"

  • "Great find...the food was great though I think my friend got the better meal...I had a black grilled cod which needed a little something. The homemade ricotta was great as an appetizer as were both of our drinks...fun summertime cocktail -- vodka, with mint, lime and cucumber -- Bravo to the bartender. We finished the evening off by sharing a delicious and warm bread pudding... I had been there for brunch and will definitely go back for both dinner and brunch."

  • "Had a group of 6 for brunch and we had excellent service. We all liked the food and portion size was good. Great coffee as well. I will def recommend this place!"

  • "County is an informal, laid back, bare minimal décor restaurant. Having said that, the food is fresh, organic and prepared to order. Everything was delicious. Three friends shared two appetizers, two main courses and a side of brussel sprouts. Delicious. My only complaint--stingy pouring of wine by the glass and didn't like the glasses with no stems."

  • "We took clients here for drinks and appetizers. We ordered the Brussel sprouts, salmon tartare, ricotta and fries, all of which were amazing. Even ordered seconds of the salmon and Brussel sprouts! Cocktails were all great and the staff was friendly. We will definitely be going back."

  • "The food is great but the place is way too loud. The night were there it was 90% women, a bachelorette party and lots of girlfriend dinner dates to catch up."

  • "I dined at this restaurant with 3 friends. The decor is charming & welcoming. Food was delicious. This restaurant has "community" dining, not known to us prior to our making a reservation. We were seated at a table for 6. Midway through our meal, a server came over & asked to move our things from the 2 empty seats. To our surprise, 2 other patrons sat at our table! It was awkward and uncomfortable! We could not enjoy the rest of our meal, felt violated and intruded upon. We voiced our concern to our server, who had done a great job, but explained that we should have been told about their policy. We said we were not aware & then were given a serving of bread pudding for the inconvenience. We were given a discount but will not go back."

  • "County was gray for brunch this past Sunday. Even just the basic Bacon and eggs were delicious. The French Toast is a must! My group of three shared it along with our other main dishes and it was the perfect bit of sweetness. Deb the owner talked to us as if we were in a small town. The decor is warm and inviting, and I'll definitely be going back!"

  • "I've heard great things about County so I wanted to try it out. Came here for the first time on a date and loved the ambiance. However, their online menu clearly states that the tacos are on the dinner menu so I was disappointed to see they weren't on the menu in the restaurant. Turns out that is only a lunch option (please update your online dinner menu!). I decided to go with the Roasted Market Vegetables with Quinoa instead and it was delicious, yet very small. Definitely not enough for a dinner portion. I'd like to return to County but will keep in mind the portion sizes and possibly order more appetizers next time!"

  • "You have to try the homemade ricotta!! Delicious food with the freshest ingredients. I love the rustic decor. The drinks are unique and mmm mmm good!"

  • "The good was really good, but I was drawn in by the decor. I didn't realize the tables were communal which makes it a bit odd. The service is what really needs work. The salmon appetizer was great along with the cod. The bread pudding was amazing."

  • "This place was great, but I'd recommend getting there before 8PM as we had some trouble being seated on time and felt a tad rushed. I'll certainly go back but a bit earlier net time. Great food....seriously amazing. -B"

  • "You can feel the energy as soon as you walk in this small restaurant. The bar in front was packed with diners. The back of the restaurant was not much quieter. Seating is mostly large tables so if you are a party of two, be prepared to sit with others. Personally, I like the camaraderie. Food is really good and well prepared and while the menu was fairly limited, there were options for all. Try the brussel sprouts with bacon (yum). If you're looking for a place to eat with good food at a reasonable price (by NY standards), try Country. I don't think you will be disappointed."

  • "Hubs and I popped into County NYC, one of our neighborhood favorites for dinner to find the place nearly empty. Tons of cancelations due to another snowstorm but we were treated so beautifully and comped dessert by the owner, who is sweet and really cares about details. County is starting to hop so good luck getting in on traditionally busy days. The menu has changed from a tapas style to a standard format of starter, appetizer, dessert. With the barn style decor and Edison lighting you'll feel like you're in the Catskills but you didn't have to fight the traffic."

  • "What a wonderful evening! The staff was attentive and warm, the food was innovative and delicious. If I were any closer than Boston I would go back again and again and again...."

  • "The name of this place is humdrum--what does County mean anyway? I live in the 'hood and thought this was going to be another restaurant I'd try once and never go back to. But the food was terrific. Everything was carefully prepared and nicely presented. I had kale salad, and it was brilliantly balanced with tiny slivers of hot peppers, plus the pulled pork tacos--two dishes that could have been predictable. My partner had fish and it cooked perfectly. Cocktails were yummy too. Service also pleasant, like a Danny Meyer restaurant."

  • "This is a small restaurant; two doors down from Gramercy Tavern. The food is delicious and not over priced for NYC. We especially liked the crispy shrimp. They had a nice wine list and the service was great. Deb, the owner was there to make our evening extra special."

  • "Excellent food and good options for vegetarians. Ambiance was very nice, but service was a bit slow. I thought the entree portions were a bit small - I was still hungry after. Great selection of creative cocktails. Overall good experience and I would return."

  • "Country is a super quaint little find and it's very conveniently located in central Flatiron. The ambiance is really well done, with beautiful mason jar light fixtures and lots of mirrors to increase the perceived space in the small restaurant. The food was excellent and the cocktails were great. Definitely don't miss out on the side of brussel sprouts - they're to die for!"

  • "The food was good - but nothing to rave about. EXCEPT the fresh ricotta appetizer w/ warm bread! Definitely the highlight. The service could use some work - we went for Sunday brunch and there was maybe 1 server & 1 hostess for the whole place. Service was slow and the server wasn't very "aware". Our party of 3 sat at a table of 6 - apparently, it's communal seating though. So when another party of 3 came in, they sat them at our table - which I only thought strange b/c the other open table of 3 was about to get up while we hadn't even eaten yet. Even weirder - we were 3 Asian women ... and the 3 that came in were 3 Asian gals as well. It just seemed odd that they wanted to seat all the Asians together and seemed, um, intentional."

  • "Perfect lunch. I would love to give the server an even higher rating. She was attentive and gave fabulous recommendations, including a cucumber and vodka drink that was amazing. The Brussels sprouts and bacon dish alone was worth the visit. Every dish was thoughtful and creative. Loved it."

  • "Wasn't my first choice, but the place i wanted to go were too packed , so we came here instead. What a great gem! Great food, nice/quite dining environment----yes i was glad that it wasn't that packed. We ordered a couple small plates to share....LOVE 1) crispy shrimp, 2) honey ricotta cheese w/ bread & 3) salmon tartar w/crispy rice. Yummy cocktails too. Will definitely go back!! Love this place!"

  • "Food here was great. Make sure to try the short ribs and the fresh ricotta cheese with bread. Amazing. Only disappointment for me was that without explaining this to us, they put my friend and I at a 6 top table (a small one) and then seated 3 more people in a separate party at the same table with us. OK with communal dining when you're expecting it, but was irritated about this in a small, quiet dining environment. Was impossible to have a private conversation, from either party."

  • "The lunch was fantastic -- our favorites were the salmon tartare (citrusy sauce and rice were unique and delicious), the brussel sprouts (another amazing sauce with a smoky bacon) and the well executed fish & chips. My husband had the butternut squash soup which was good but probably wouldn't order it again. Nice atmosphere but if it was full to capacity it might feel cramped."

  • "I literally chose this spot based on its location. Nice place to take client to be away from crowds during the lunch hour. The ricotta was as advertised by the waiter. The chef has a creative eye for normal things like salads. I'm going back to see what dinner is like."

  • "Had a really good dinner here. Attentive staff and service, interesting menu choices (don't miss the housemade ricotta or the short ribs)! Tacos and saffron pistachio ice cream also a hit. Comfortable room, homey decor. A great new option in an area filled with restaurants."

  • "We were seated at the most random table, a small round plastic table whose top spun around. It was like they just picked it up at Home Depot as an afterthought. The menu is a bit scattered. Pork tacos, ricotta, salmon tartar. Fried shrimp ,,, the food was pretty good, not outstanding. Our server was very nice; he was trying to make our dinner a pleasant one."

  • "it took forever to get a waiter while not many customers are around. Food takes very long too even for simple stuff. There are not so many manu. I do not ever go back to this place."
