The service was great. The food came out in fairly quick and the steak was good, not the greatest steak i ever had but was pretty good. We also had the the lobster mac and cheese, it was a bit salty for my taste but not that bad. The New York Strip (heavy cut - 20 oz.) is one of the best I ever had while my wife had the Queen Cut Prime Rib which she loved. I had the aged porterhouse.. big disappointment, especially given the $69 price tag, my boyfriend had the filet, he loved it. So we were 50/50 on our food choices. The drinks were good....not great, the service was exceptional and made up for the disappointing food. I was surprised at first to see that the restaurant was not full... but then it I realized that the fake plastic candles and an awkwardly arranged plastic flower arrangement was unimpressive... Usually we go for a special occasion, which Council Oak is perfect for. An intimate setting or group gathering is great. Each time we've gone, they have had groups of at least 10. They know how to accommodate & integrate these parties, but able to keep intimate affairs intimate. Ambiance is very nice with music in the background, beautiful decor & a wall of windows to bring the outdoors in. The food has always been excellent with a nice selection of beef, chicken, pork & fish. Side dishes are ala carte & will serve enough for the entire group. Once I got closer to the center it was much better but for $56 I expect to enjoy each and every bit of meat, not just half of the steak! I would have rated the food much lower than a 4 had my date not ordered the fish and risotto meal which was outstanding and the asparagus we both enjoyed as a side dish.
