Diner Reviews
  • "The Cottonwood Grille is a wonderful place for leisurely, scenic dining. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable and the food is well prepared. The serving sizes are generous (in the case of the veggie wrap, way MORE than generous!). I would recommend the Grille for leisurely dining; there did not seem to be any sense of hurry. We were celebrating a birthday and were given a complimentary ice cream dessert."

  • "The wedge salad was excellent. The pork with leeks was very good and the New York Baseball cut was perfect. We were there on a Saturday and there was a pianist. We will be back soon."

  • "We conducted a lunch meeting here. The food was excellent, the wait staff was great and understanding of our time and plan. Highly recomend for lunch, brunch, and dinner. Good food and really good people."

  • "Yummy drink selections for happy hour with tasty appetizers. The bar area is spacious and comfy, the bartenders are very attentive and knowledgeable. Totally recommend hitting up the happy hour first and then sitting down for a tasty meal."

  • "It is wonderful to find a restaurant where you can actually hear your company talk to you. We enjoyed our time and went for a stroll along the river after dinner great experience"

  • "One of the members of our 4-party group said there steak was very fatty. I think it was a rib steak. She didn't tell me until after we left. I told her you would have brought another steak, but of course it was too late."

  • "We did go a little early in the evening so I can understand the older crowd. The service was Dennys worthy from the word go. Waiter was very spot sloppy and not knowledgeable of the wine list. Food was mediocre and very over priced for what it was. Will not go back or recommend."

  • "The prime rib was overcooked. Even though they replaced it, it was still not great. Try the many other good things on the menu, including many of the great appetizers, instead. The waitress, originally from Poland, was outstanding."

  • "Our server (I think I recall her name was Natalie) was just lovely and every bite of our dinner was delicious. Equally wonderful was the patio dining, the impossibly beautiful setting for an evening, and the gardens. This is much more than a gem. It is unmatchable. This is the place I bring special guests when I have out of town visitors. It represents Boise in the most lovely way."

  • "A beautifully designed restaurant with suburb food to match. Perfect place to dine and entertain."

  • "The steak was tender and flavorful, good wine selection, helpful staff."

  • "The place has not aged well. The best part of the meal was the baked brie. The two past dishes where in a soupy and very heavy sauce. My daughter's salad had a hair in it and one of my four scallops was not cleaned well so i was biting down on sand"

  • "This reservation and experience were fraught with issues from incorrect orders being presented, food being delivered at different times (they forgot all of our salads) and a general lack of attention to our table by the wait staff. While the restaurant was not overly busy, we seemed to be an after thought by the server on multiple occasions and had to actually 'wave' her over a couple of times. Disappointing service to a mediocre meal. The Grille is close by so we often go there for business lunches, but may have to re-think that consideration in the future."

  • "This has always been one of our favorite dinner spots, however the last couple of times we were very disappointed with the food. It was to the point where we did not trust the restaurant as being one we would take guests to. The atmosphere is always so wonderful but if the food isn't good, we would choose to entertain guests elsewhere. Hopefully, it was just a low time for them and things have turned around. I want it to be our "go to" favorite again."

  • "This place was okay but my overall experience was not that great! When we got our food the plate was super hot but the food not so much. The food was ok but honestly I've had so much better and to top it off my husband got a dirty spoon with his soup but didn't realized it until he took a bite of it and realized there was something stuck to the spoon. It was pretty nasty! We told the waitress and she offered us a dessert on the house so we got the cobble which wasn't very good it tastes like the cobble had been sitting there for a long time! I also ordered a mojito and the mint in my drink was black like as if it was going bad! I don't think I will go back to this restaurant again. We really were not impressed!"

  • "Even though I made our reservations a month in advance, we still were seated in the traffic lane from the patio to the kitchen - and this was the 2nd attempt - her first was right in the lane! Service was hit 'n miss as our server constantly reminded us he was very busy, and always was going by saying "I'll be right with you." This was a special dinner to show my sister from CA, who had never been to ID before, a nice atmosphere and place to eat (which I mentioned when I made the reservations). We were never asked if we wanted appetizers, we had to ask if there were specials, and I had to turn back our bill, as we wanted to order dessert. We will not repeat this mistake again when we plan special events."

  • "Excellent meal. Salmon was great, and sitting by the river made for a nice evening. Service was excellent."

  • "One of the things I love about this place is the flexibility in a/c cool interior or breezy nature-cooled patio. I like their specials but like that favorites stay on the menu. I come back to the Idaho trout here as the best in the city."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "We had reservations for a party of 7 on the patio. None of us does well in full sun, but the table that was set up for us would have resulted in 4 of the 7 of us sitting in full sun. The staff was very accommodating to our request to be moved elsewhere, which necessitated moving a couple of tables together and then readjusting one more time to get us all in the shade. It was a nuisance for them but they were very gracious. The food and service that we then enjoyed was excellent, as usual."

  • "The Cottonwood is my favorite lunch place. Gracious ambiance, friendly service, delicious food including great salads. And no hassle when you sit there for a coupe of hours deep in a business discussion. Five star !"

  • "There were 5 of us and we all had a great meal. The wine list is nice and the menu provides a variety of choices."

  • "The dinner trout and the local Coiled Syrah wine are outstanding. This was my second visit and it was just as good as my first dining experience there. I would go back."

  • "Good food, but not great. Go for the setting. The outdoor patio is a big draw and the inside is beautiful. Great location near the park for events."

  • "Dinner was marginal. Perhaps it was the waitress that didnt help. We decided, we have been, now time to find and try something else."

  • "Ordered salmon. When served the salmon was a small sliver of salmon and the waiter apologized upon serving, indicating that a full serving was still being prepared and would be forthcoming. When the full serving was presented it was tough and didn't taste like salmon at all. The original small sliver was quite tasteful and flavorful and tasted like salmon. Upon questioning by the waiter, we explained the situation and he apologized (three others in the party tested the serving and all agreed it was tough and didn't taste like salmon). Cottonwood made no adjustment or other accommodation for the the inferior serving, but gladly accepted the $200 payment plus gratuity."

  • "Our fifth year in a row celebrating our wedding anniversary. Always good food, however, this year's service lacked some level of professionalism. The bus girl did make up for the waitress' goofs and spills. "

  • "My wife and I had a great dinner at Cottonwood Grille and love the scenic view of the water and trees. Food was great and the wine was prefect with our dinner. "

  • "We had a beautiful evening enjoying dinner on the patio. Quiet, not too sunny or windy. Food was great and prepared as we ordered it."
    Dined on 5/24/2014
  • "I ordered the Rib Eye (without bone) and found the meat to have almost no flavor whatsoever. While I told the waiter of the poor quality and that I didn't really seek any type of compensation, I was surprised that he or a manager did not seek to explore the customer's concern or displeasure further. Food, and service (to include management) are rated average at best. It appears to me that the restuarants concern was focused more on profit than customer satisfaction. On a more positive note, we sat outside and the setting was beautiful. "

  • "The lunch was great. Only downside was that we ate outside and there was quite a bit of cottonwood seeds floating through the air and landed in our water glasses."

  • "Our group was very pleased with our visit to the Cottonwood Grille! Four of the six of us had never dined there before. We would all recommend the restaurant to our friends. We will all return as soon as possible! Thank you for a very nice dining experience! I also was very happy with the experience I had with making my reservations on Open Table. Very convenient and painless! Thank you! "

  • "We have selected this restaurant many, many times over the years. This was a special occasion, 70 year birthday. Made reservations in advance but when we got to the restaurant were told that there was no table for us but we could sit in the bar. Not a pleasant experience."

  • "Cottonwood grille is lovely, but I can't help but feel that it's slipped in the last few years. The menu is heavy on the Northwest fare, but sadly lacking in originality or inspiration. Dishes that should be great are rather bland, and service that should be exceptional isn't any better than the Olive Garden by the mall. I used to love this place, but now only go when my grandparents take me to dinner or I have a business lunch that I didn't arrange. I'd like nothing more for this place to step back up their game and be the Boise gem it was years ago when it opened. They don't need my review to let them know theyre in a slump, the fact that on a Friday night it was less than a quarter full should be clue enough. "

  • "Rustic setting with attentive wait staff. Food reflects Idaho wild game with few seafood selections mixed in. "

  • "We ate here before seeing Wicked so it was busy but service was excellent. Wine list was great, food...well my shrimp scampi was undercooked. I like sushi so I ate it. My hubby's sirloin steak looked like a filet so that was strange but the texture was yucky. Mealy was his word. Scallops were very good and elk medalions were good so not bad overall."
