Diner Reviews
  • "Cottonwood has, for years, delivered one of the best Sunday Brunches in Boise and they continue to do it consistently. For my taste, it's number-1. It's especially delightful if the weather is good enough to eat out on the greenbelt patio and enjoy the Sunday crowd walking, running and biking."

  • "I have eaten at this restaurant many times before and the food has always been very good. But last Saturday night my meal (Halibut) was not even luke warm. I noticed it sat on the serving stand tray (about 20 feet from my table) for some time before the waiter served it. I was the last person to be served."

  • "The food was delicious, the decor was lovely. The only downside was the noise level. It was very loud and not peaceful. We do not drink and the table next to us was drinking and obviously having a good time so that may have contributed to the noise level. Overall we enjoyed our experience."

  • "Looking for a place that we could enjoy a good meal with our adult children and two young grandchildren, we came across the Cottonwood Grille and liked the reviews we saw. It turned out to be the perfect place to satisfy our varied tastes and allow us plenty of quiet to visit and catch up. We would definitely return the next time we are in Boise."

  • "This is a restaurant for casual or special occasion dining. The atmosphere is comforting with sooooo much class!"

  • "We enjoyed our brunch..we're celebrating a birthday . Would suggest adding a couple of sandwiches to brunch menu. Our waiter was very accommodating to my dietary restrictions."

  • "This is my second time at Cottonwood Grille and am impressed but haven't deviated from my favorite entree of the pheasant. My mom came to visit and asked me for game. Since I gave her elk and deer at home I only lacked wild bird game so Cottonwood was our destination. The pheasant is paired nicely with mashed potatoes, asparagus (my favorite) and a cream mushroom sauce - absolutely mouth watering and close to how we prepare it in our home. Thank you for serving such an amazing dish."

  • "Our server was well meaning, but poorly trained. Forgot one of our beverages, misprounouced a common beer, forgot to deliver bread to table, forgot to add protein to pasta dish. Dirty martini was horrible. Probably fifty percent olive juice. Salad were great and vegetables were cooked perfectly, but otherwise food not extraordinary. I think the $$ price rating is understated. We'll go elsewhere next time we have a special occasion."

  • "We had a lovely time at the Cottonwood Grille in Boise on Valentines Day. Beautiful setting next to the Boise River, fire in the fireplace, and excellent service and food completed a charming and romantic evening."

  • "We wanted to have a nice dinner with Grandma, Grandpa and all of the grand kids. Had been awhile since we attempted this with the kids. Had a wonderful time. Great service, great seating (we were in the elevated back room), and delightful food."

  • "We were celebrating my mother-in-law's 50th birthday and we had a surprise guest who flew from the other side of the country to visit. Cottonwood Grille hostesses and wait staff were wonderful in helping coordinate our surprise guest and gave us a wonderful table right in front of the fireplace. Food was absolutely amazing as well! Our surprise went off without a hitch! It was a fantastic evening. We can't wait for another excuse to dine at Cottonwood!"

  • "With all the restaurants in downtown Boise, we thought of trying one new to us but remembered Cottonwood Grille as excellent the last time we ventured into the "big" city, so we returned and were not disappointed. This is a quality restaurant that combines excellent food with friendly, knowledgeable service. Cannot wait to go back."

  • "This restaurant offers delectable regional specialties: elk, bison, rainbow trout, dungeness crab, basque cuisine and wonderful beef. Outdoor Dining is to-die-for gorgeous next to the Boise Greenbelt and River. The interior looks like a great lodge with fireplace and big timbers. The artwork is authentic and enjoyable. They pour generous glasses of wine and offer a small but delightful dessert menu. This is a wonderful locally owned and operated establishment. Try it!!!"

  • "With reservations in advance we were disappointed in the table we were set at."

  • "We are frequent visitors of the cottonwood grille which makes each visit exciting. Our server was top notch, the food was superb, and the moment was captivating. Roger, who makes things happen was also at the top of his game, keeping the operation smooth. This is by far our favorite rendezvous for all occasions."

  • "The setting was nice and the ambiance was along the lines I was looking for, for a date night with my wife. Unfortunately the menu was extremely overpriced for the steak I got. It was cooked well but the portion was small for the amount paid and the sauce was extremely salty. The server did at least offer a free dessert and an apology which was nice. For the price though, I'd take Ruth's Chris anyday - you'd pay the same but the food would easily top the Cotton Wood grill. I honestly expected more."

  • "I have heard of the Cottonwood Grille but never experienced it. It certainly maintained its reputation. The service was excellent. We tried the elk and buffalo, both were cooked perfectly and a nice new taste."

  • "Cottonwood is a location my wife know we will have great food, great wine list and moderate price. Have always had a good experience. From a quite dinner to a place to bring friends, it has never disappointed us."

  • "Cottonwood grill offers excellent food and service in an attractive setting. Come dressed up on a date or casual. Both fit in. We've only done dinner here, but want to try something in daylight to enjoy the patio and view. Our only negative is that while the decor and food invite lingering, close talking, the high ambient noise precludes intimate or private conversation. Perhaps an acoustical professional could recommend a solution. Having said that, we'll definitely dine there again. We recommend others try it as well. Definitely a Boise gem."

  • "Good food, service was good, a little noisy, though, for a business meeting."

  • "Last time the waiter over charged my credit card. The next time I ordered a pasta plate. It was a bowl full of water with pasta swimming in it. It never should have left the kitchen like that, and the waitress admitted that it was not right. Then why did she serve it to me? The manager balked at my request for a refund on that particular entree. I think I'll take my friends elsewhere next time, besides, it's always hit or miss if they're going to be out of one of their menu items. Between Christmas dinner, Thanks giving, and other special occasions, I've dined there about ten times. I've had about a 50% success rate of getting my first choice of entrees. This restaurant is overrated."

  • "We were served a small loaf of bread which was stale. We ordered croquetas which came out very quickly and clearly were not made on site. They tasted like something I would have heated up from our freezer.I ordered Monk Fish and my wife had Scallops. I also had a Cesar salad which had a sour taste. My wife's Scallops were underdone. She sent them back, they came back to us with a warning that the plate was extremely hot. This led me to think that the they didn't actually take the Scallops off the plate but instead just left it under the hot lamps for a few minutes. She tried the Scallops again and they were full of sand. My Munk fish was overdone and chewy. We didn't finish our meal. The best part was the local IPA and the Sparkling Wine."

  • "Food was beautifully prepared and presented, all the while tasting very good. Server was attentive but not stifling. The surroundings were pleasant for an all around wonderful dining experience."

  • "We had a party of eight. Our service was excellent and everyone's food was superb. The prices are fair for a fine dining experience. We will definitely return and try some of the other excellent entrees."

  • "This was my second lunch at Cottonwood Grill, and the place is still first-rate. Although this was Friday lunch time and the place was packed, it was still quiet enough for me to hear every word spoken at my table. The light wooden interior, including the tables, gives the place a warm feeling. My only slight negative was that our server was a bit reserved by today's standards, whereas I prefer more interaction."

  • "We have enjoyed some nice experiences at Cottonwood, but lately the food has been 2nd rate. Overcooked lamb shanks, cold mashed potatoes, and a boring NY Strip. I get better presentation at Red Robin. Chandler's and 10-Barrel Brewing will get our business until it's warm enough"

  • "My Valentine date and the couple we went with had a great time, wonderful food and service was exceptional! Highly enjoyable!"

  • "We were promptly seated at our requested quiet corner table. Wedge style caesar salad: OK. Entrees: pork chops are OK, bland. The prime rib is SALTY so for the 1st time in 17 yrs, my husband sent a meal back to the kitchen. 10 minutes later replacement entree (filet) comes out - great dish. We order dessert with coffee. The desserts come out -- one of them is wrong, creme brulee instead of bread pudding. Server takes it back to the kitchen. Server returns with the bread pudding -- no coffee. Desserts are not very good, when we finally get our coffee it's not hot, but it does taste good. The staff didn't seem very professional, shabby uniforms, personal conversations on the floor, etc. Overall, this dining experience was very disappointing."

  • "We don't eat out much, but when we do, we want a great experience. We found it at Cottonwood Grille. The service was great and the steak was quite possibly the best I've ever had. I will make the Grille my regular dining destination."

  • "As always, great service , great food. My wife's favorite place to eat."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Food and service was quite good, which should be expected given the price. Biggest downside was that my wife and I were seated on an overly narrow table -- even smaller than a folding card table -- that was placed immediately adjacent to another table. We could not help but hear the adjacent conversation, which was quite awkward."

  • "We had not been to Cottonwood Grill for a while. We had out of town guests and we took them to check out a local dining establishment. We all had a wonderful time....great food and exceptional service. If you are looking for a place to impress, this is it."

  • "We've been going to Cotton Wood Grill for years. This was the first time I was disappointed in the food. The salmon and the halibut were very mushy. I expect a filet to have some firmness to it. It was like it had been ground up and then plopped on the plate. I've had the halibut on many occasions, this was the first time I was disappointed."

  • "This is a beautiful restaurant with a grand fireplace and warm surroundings. The food was delicious but would have preferred to have a choice of baked potato to go with new your strip steak. The mashed potatoes were nothing to write home about. The food was cooked beautifully and the flavors were so very good."

  • "We've counted on the Cottonwood Grille for special-occasion dinners for years. Happy Hour appetizers are also delicious and a great value, along with two-for-one drinks. Recently, I brought a friend here for Sunday Brunch. I had the veggie omelette. It was nothing special with canned tomatoes & large chunks of onion and squash. The creme brulee and pumpkin cheesecake we had for dessert were extra special however, and the service we received was excellent, including boxing up the barely-touched omelette & potatoes. I will continue to choose the Cottonwood Grille for dinners."
