Diner Reviews
  • "A month ago, took an out of town visitor to CR for supper after a meeting. We had exactly what I expected: a fine meal, well-served, in a visually appealing setting. My friend talks about that meal even today. If you are in the mood for fine dining, or have a special occasion, you can't go wrong with CR. It is also a great spot for a drop-in meal at the bar, and they do an outstanding job with larger gatherings in their upstairs and downstairs private dining areas. The menu changes often enough to keep regulars interested. Simply put, Jimmy Boyce has set the bar for great food in Huntsville."

  • "We went here for my husband's birthday and it was fantastic! The service, ambiance, view and comfortable table and seating set the stage. The special tuna salad and the citrus salmon over greens were wonderful. We also enjoyed the creme brulee and the trio of sorbets. The flavors were unique and the dishes were plentiful. The waiters even shared the brand of tea with me, as I consistently enjoy it at all of the Boyce Concepts restaurants. Thank you for all that you do for the restaurant scene in HSV!"

  • "One of our favorite places for a nice night out. The grilled romaine is outstanding! Always great service and free valet parking. Beautiful restaurant."

  • "The food was delicious but the salad was not filling. My friend's entree appeared to be very filling."

  • "First off, as others have mentioned, this place is not for the light of wallet. But provided you are prepared for the sticker shock, the food and the service is the best in the area. The best way to describe it is a local non-chain version of Ruth Chris, but with more seafood options. The decor is charming, the waitstaff attentive, friendly, and helpful. Seating is comfortable, with big padded chairs that still manage an antique look, and the noise level was never impeding or intruding on our conversation. The only suggestion I can have for improving the experience it to fix up the entrance - the air lock tent makes it a bit cumbersome to hold the door open for your date and still get past each other."

  • "What a wonderful surprise. We were not expecting that much elegance in Huntsville, AL. The service was very good, the setting was great and the food was superb. We will stop again when we travel though that part of the world. Do be prepared for a fairly large bill!"

  • "The food was very good, as usual and met our expectations for the dollar being spent ...... service was slow, at times nowhere in sight and in general not very attentive to our needs, which was a disappointment because as we all know, great service completes the meal. I actually grabbed a waiter in passing and asked if he would take our order as we had not seen our server for over 20 minutes? When service does arrive, they come in droves, my analogy is a feast or famine type of service environment. Our tip appropriately reflected our disappointment."

  • "We travel to Huntsville 2 to 3 times a year for work. During our last trip we found Cotton Row. The food was great so we decided to go again during this trip. The food and wine were equally great this time around. The service was top notch. Great ambiance. We will definitely return next time we are in town. Party of 3."

  • "First visit - while on business. Ordered the fried green tomato appetizer and the evening's special - halibut on a bed of parmesan risotto with a tomato cream sauce with asparagus. The tomatoes were outstanding - hot and crispy, resting on a zingy bed of spicy hot sauce. The fish was overly cooked with a hard, crispy finish (it was pan seared, not deep fried, so the texture was very dry and odd.) The risotto was outstanding with crunchy bits of asparagus. The tomato sauce finish was flat & bland - very off putting. For the price ($85 with two glasses of wine,) I wish I had eaten at sister restaurant, Commerce Kitchen two nights in a row rather than one. Their catfish was outstanding, & the meal value far better. Good wine & service."

  • "The food at this joint was amazing. I had a starter of Short rib Ravioli; out of this world and a Filet Mignon entrée; outstanding. Even the dinner rolls were hot crusted treasures. Service could be a lot better. Even with a reservation, I had to wait 20 minutes for a table. We were about to order and eat at the bar when a table freed up (In the basement, no thanks; and finally in the dinning room). Another problem; there several things not available even though they were on the menu. Even the bottle of wine we wanted (Malbec) was not available. Hmmm"

  • "Cotton Row is amazing!! I took my fiancé there for his birthday and also to give him his wedding band. I booked the reservation about two weeks in advance, and the day before received a phone call asking me the details on our date and if they can make it better. Absolutely loved it! The food was amazing, the atmosphere definitely sets the mood. We has the blood orange cocktail, which was amazing! I would recommend this place to everyone. It is fine dining so be prepared to spend some nice money. But all in all it is worth it."

  • "While I used to love Cotton Row, this last visit was dissapointing. The food & service have gone down significantly. When we first arrived, the hostess was not available. When she finally arrived, we were told that we were sitting outside, even though it was cold out (this was in February). When we asked to sit inside, we were told that the restaurant had called and left a message about sitting outside. I'm not sure how leaving a message makes it ok for you to place your customers in the cold. They reluctantly let us sit inside when we asked again, even though there was only 1 other table taken inside. The food was either burnt (foie gras) or bland. The server brought us the wrong order. Overall, it wasn't good and I won't be going back."

  • "Picked Cotton Row based on other reviews and they were spot on! Great food, service, drinks. Very nice restaurant in downtown Huntsville, AL. Get reservations as it fills up fast and is not very large. Enjoyed the experience very much. You will not go wrong choosing this restaurant."

  • "On Sunday, I made reservations for Thursday. Every one there made my wife and I feel like family. Great service, excellent lunch, and perfect seats with a view. I recommend this place to have a great family time together."

  • "Fabulous food. Everyone enjoyed each plate we ordered - from French fries to fish to steak! Desserts were just the right size to end the meal. Will definitely go back for a special occasion or romantic dinner for two."

  • "The waitress failed to provide us with pricing on specials. The chef special ribeye was 60% more than the fillet mignon on the menu. It appears they added tables for Valentines Day making it very crowded."

  • "Bravo to the Cotton Row Restaurant staff, service, food quality and presentation. So impressed by the ambience of the wine cellar, our server's knowledge of the menu items, fine wines, and flavors, and the dining experience overall. Outstanding! Would highly recommend to anyone desiring a "5 star" evening!!"

  • "We dine at Cotton Row often for our special occasions. It is pricey but very well worth the money."

  • "As always, good food, but very little privacy. It's impossible to have a conversation with one's companion without the diners on either side of you so close as to be almost able to hear your whispers. The tables are simply much too close together, which lends an awkwardness to the dining experience that is completely unnecessary."

  • "Bartender is probably the best I have encountered in Huntsville."

  • "Just moved to Huntsville a couple months ago and finally, a great meal. Decent wine list for a restaurant in this area. Braised short ribs were the best ones I have ever had. Tender and meaty and satisfying like awesome pork belly. Paired with creamy grits, arugula and a savory sauce. The sauce tasted like what I always hope steak sauce will taste like but it never does. It's dark inside, which is nice. My fiance got the redfish. Perfectly seared around the edges of the skin. :-) I don't like peanut butter but we got the peanut butter and jelly dessert and I really enjoyed it. When you can order food somewhere that you don't like and find that it is delicious, that is a truly special place. I can't wait to go back and try other foods!"

  • "This was my first time ever dining at Cotton Row, and overall it was lovely. The food was incredible, our server was very amicable and knowledgeable, and the ambiance was very romantic. We sat upstairs, which was fairly small and intimate. However, to get to the upstairs dining area, we had to exit the restaurant and walk around the side in the rain. The only downside was that we weren't seated until at least 30 minutes after our reservation time. A lot of people seemed to be having the same problem, and I understand that it was Valentine's Day and a special occasion, but it was quite annoying to have to stand in the (very crowded) breezeway for such a long time. The House Manager was great though and gave us free champagne and an appetizer"

  • "My family and I have frequented many of the Huntsville area restaurants over the years, and Cotton Row is the stand out. From the moment you walk in, you are the focus of the staff (not only the greeter), welcoming you to the beginning of a truly wonderful experience. I have been to Cotton Row 10 times, and each time was a joy! Keep up the good work, Cotton Row!"

  • "The service and food at Cotton Row are consistently excellent. You really can't do any better than their triggerfish and turbot (my personal favorite). If either of those is on the menu, don't hesitate. Go for it! The steaks are always excellent and prepared exactly the right temperature. They had lobster on the menu for our most recent dining experience and it was very good. (Not as good as some of their other fish options but good nonetheless.)"

  • "This is an awesome restaurant for a romantic dinner or a cozy place for a group dinner. We celebrated my wife's 40th and it was excellent. The wait staff is very knowledgeable with how food is prepared and very attentive. Food and wine are exceptional!"

  • "I'm somewhat sad I haven't tried Cotton Row until now, my wife and I had an excellent date night at this restaurant. The drinks and every course of the meal was fantastic. Service was top notch but not overly intrusive. Probably the best food I've experienced so far in Huntsville. Highly recommended."

  • "Although this is a very nice restaurant, the experience was lessened a bit by the extremely low lighting in the corner beside the safe. Needed flashlight to read the menu. Table was very close to noisy guest and the waitperson read the specials too fast and we asked her to repeat it. Nonetheless excellent food and nice presentation."

  • "I've eaten here many times over the past few years and have always found the food and drinks to be worth the hype that surrounds Cotton Row. The one sore spot for me has always been the lack of intimacy of the dining experience, i.e., most of the tables are crammed so closely together that one is practically sharing dinner with the couples sitting on either side. Private conversation is essentially impossible. A little more space between the tables, that would actually allow one to have a private conversation, would be of considerable benefit to the restaurant's ambiance."

  • "I have dined at Cotton Row several times, both for business occasions with small to large groups and on personal occasions with diners. On all occasions both the food and service have been excellent. The beef and pork dishes are particularly good choices. The appetizers are also rewarding. The wine list is good but the prices are exorbitant for some of the selections which are quite inexpensive, off-the-shelf choices."

  • "The food was very basic for the price. The menu was very limited and the offerings were not very interesting given the price of the food. However, the services was very good and the ambiance was nice too."

  • "Perfect for romantic special occasion dining. Excellent top-notch service (!), elegant atmosphere, no cigarette smoke, great gourmet selections, and reasonably quiet. A special treat on Valentine's Day and New Year's Eve (make advance reservations). Dinner for two with desserts and a shared appetizer (not including alcohol or well-deserved tips) currently around $110, although much more could be spent for an extravagant evening. Some vegetarian and gluten-free selections available. Dress up for the occasion: this is not a "vibrant bar scene" or "hot spot" filled with rowdy mobs trooping in and out. Treat yourself and your companion to something special at Cotton Row."

  • "I wanted to do something special for my wife for NYE and read good reviews. They were correct. There is complimentary valet parking waiting as you pull up. We were seated at the bar as we were early for reservation. We were still seated 10 minutes before reservation time. Ashley was our server and did a wonderful job. The service is spectacular from water refill to dishes being removed. The food is outstanding. We had salmon and flounder, appitizers of lobster bisque and fried green tomatoes; and finished meal off with desserts. This is not your chain restuarant so don't expect a $12 steak. However, this was great experience and we will be back. Dress is business casual."

  • "Marked the restaurant down for offering premium butters but not telling unless asked they would cost more. Tables too close to each other. It was New Year's Eve and we were told not to take longer than two hours to eat. Food was good and service very good."
