A word from Cotton Row Restaurant
Nestled on the southwest corner of the Courthouse Square, the three-story brick building that houses Cotton Row Restaurant was built in 1821 along the cotton exchange.

A vision for comfort, elegance and modern American cuisine is how the story of Cotton Row Restaurant began. We are inspired by the enduring passion of the cotton traders who once worked in downtown Huntsville, and invite you to experience our southern hospitality.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We went to Cotton Row to celebrate my wife's birthday and she was overwhelmed by the atmosphere, the service and especially the food. The heirloom tomato salad had a great mix of flavors with the grapes and figs, the short ribs were perfect. The sorbet selection was great. Overall a perfect meal."

  • "I will say up front the service was very good. The food however was disappointing, as was the fact that they only had 3 beers available and none were locally brewed. My wife ordered a salad and the scallops. She said the salad was good but really could not taste the dressing. She said her scallops entree' was very good. I ordered the southern seafood chowder and filet mignon. The chowder was supposed to have shrimp, clams, and red snapper. There were no shrimp or clams in my bowl and the snapper had the texture of pork, chewy. My filet mignon was tough even though it was cooked a perfect medium rare. Honestly, it was the toughest filet I have had in my life. Our bill was $200 with tip."

  • "A couple of colleagues and I went for Restaurant Week. The whole meal was delicious. We had appetizer fries to share, fried green tomatoes, gulf shrimp pasta, and mini creme brulee and they had an inventive cocktail list. I loved the look of the place and would def. recommend for special occasions and business outings. The waiters were also very attentive and accomodating."

  • "My husband and I went there for our 9 year anniversary. We aren't generally accustomed to that kind of atmosphere. The waitstaff was very polite and attentive. I had the Alaskan seared halibut. It was very flavorful, especially the mushrooms and mashed potatoes. My husband had the special South Carolina pheasant which was to die for. If that's on special, I highly recommend getting that. As wonderful as it was, it's definitely not an everyday restaurant for us since we would break ourselves. It was worth every penny though."

  • "My wife and I had a lovely dinner prior to her knee surgery. The oysters and scallops were superb choices as was the homemade sorbet dessert."

  • "This has become quite the place to be! It was our third visit. The food, wine and service was all excellent. However, the management decided to open the glass walls on this evening. It was an evening in July, very warm. If we had chosen to sit outside, the weather would have been our choice. We chose to be inside and it was uncomfortably warm. This would be a great idea for a spring or fall evening, not July."

  • "I've been here many times, and ALWAYS superb service, food, and atmosphere! This was the perfect night to dine on the patio. Music across the Square, gentle breeze, candlelight, and delicious food and wine, complimented with the best service ever. They even accommodated our request to tour the cellar with a personal tour by Chris, who included historical info on the building. Just great!"

  • "The tables are very close together so privacy is not existence. If your only 2 people the table can barley fit the food. They tried to give us a table right in front of the front door. If you sat hear you would be constantly interrupted. Also the fish was over cooked but they did offer free desert."

  • "My wife and I are foodies and we love the best restaurants in Birmingham, but James Boyce is the best chef we have found. From Starters through Entree and Dessert, the meal was a symphony of exquisite tastes."

  • "You'll enjoy the meal weather a food critic, ammature chef, or simply out on town for a dining delight. The chef has created some fantastic entres with sauces that balance the flavors. From local salads to Alaskan Salmon and Halibut with unique sauces to complement the taste and texture of the fish to very unique deserts, you'll find a mouthwatering delight to suite your tastes. A splash of French Pressed Coffee rounded out the evening. Though the price was higher that anticipated, the unique downtown atmosphere and the knowledgeable table servers made for a memorable evening event."

  • "The staff that waited on us at Cotton Row each made it a point to tell me Happy Birthday. The food was fantastic! We ordered the Grilled Romaine and Oyster Fritters to share before our entrees. Both were excellent. I had the Halibut and my husband had the Duck. The halibut was cooked perfectly and the truffle mashed potatoes were to die for. My husband enjoyed the duck as well. We split the PB&J dessert, it was so unique. The chef actually invented the dessert at a group function when he forgot his dessert ingredients at the restaurant and had to use what was in the pantry at the facility. This is a must in Huntsville! We will definitely be back."

  • "The short ribs were excellent, but the smoked duck was not up to that standard. The duck was overcooked, but the fat wasn't properly rendered, and the chef's choice of sides didn't work very well. The service was excellent, except we had an unusually long interval before our dessert was served. The staff seemed properly trained, but some of them didn't seem quite confident in their roles. The noise level was a bit high for our tastes, and even though there were plenty of tables when we arrived, we were seated next to the door to the kitchen; there should have at least been a partition between the door and our table."

  • "My wife and I were out for a date at Cotton Row on the 3rd of July. It took 45 minutes to get our drinks which came with our appetizer at same time. My wife's halibut had the consistency of a fish stick and side order was wrong. Many around is were not pleased with time waiting to be served and drinks. Once the bartender lost her customers suddenly the drinks came on time. Bottom line. A great place but on this night didn't have enough servers and the food was adequate at best. It ruined our date night. Be along time before we come back"

  • "This was my 5th visit to Cotton Row and the food is always consistently good. I've never had a bad meal. A lt's good value on higher end restaurants. Steak, fish, salads always great. I had a great filet cooked perfect medium rare and I'm not easy to please when it comes to my steaks. I do miss the Duroc pork shank, it should be back on the menu."

  • "Amazing, delicious food! Everything was so fresh and the pairings on the menu are perfect. The free range chicken was the best I've had anywhere. The salad, dessert, rolls- all so, so good. The service was truly outstanding, always nearby if you need something but not intrusive. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "A great location, and attentive staff, with an interesting menu, but about twice the price of comparable restaurant. The food was well prepared, but somewhat small portions. $100 for one salad, two entrees, and two waters (Pelligrino and something that tasted like filtered tap water)."

  • "I have been to French restaurants and their servings are more than cotton raw. Very disappointed. We had lobster special and three small pieces of lobster for $36. Had ordered appetizer and desert but came home hungry. Ambience is good but chef needs to improve the taste and quantity."

  • "We had an awesome experience at Cotton Row. It was our first time there although we'd thought about going for a while. The waiter (Chris) was awesome... very knowledgeable and attentive. He went out of his way to make the evening wonderful with a couple nice surprises thrown in as well. We'll definitely be going back."

  • "My wife and Zi had a great evening at Cotton Row. The entire staff was very attentive starting several days before our arrival with emails and finally a call on the day of our reservation. Food and beverages were fantastic. The manager and our waiter responsive to our requests. It was a great evening."

  • "First timers. Food was fantastic but the table by the safe was awful. I felt like we were outcasts. We would definitely go back but would not accept sitting at that table."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary at Cotton Row and it did not disappoint; from the complimentary valet parking to the cozy atmosphere, just right service and wonderful food. We usually don't order a steak at anything other than a steakhouse, but we were both in the mood for a steak and decided we would give Cotton Row a chance. We were glad we did. The filets were perfectly prepared (both a nice juicy medium) and they were delicious. The Lyonnaise potatoes and asparagus were the perfect complement."

  • "What a great restaurant! The food was great and and very flavorful and the fish so fresh. This place would rate well in any large city in the USA so its a real treat to be able to find such a place in a small city. We are here on business quite often and this will be a regular place for us."

  • "30th anniversary celebration with my wife. Great menu, creative items. The fried green tomatoes have a sauce that has some real kick - great with starting cocktails. SUPER ahi tuna starter, pan seared scallops served in a salsa of black-eyed peas and sweet whole kernel corn. Very unique and very tasty. My wife had a salmon dish that was excellent. Creme brulee desert for her, a dark chocolate hazelnut crunch cake for me - perfect ending to a very good meal. Seating is a little cramped in the dining room on the entry level floor and the servers enter and exit the patio between two tables, one of which was ours. A bit annoying and nullifies the air conditioning at that table. Avoid these tables if possible. Otherwise, can't go wrong here."

  • "Everything was very good, as always. This would be a routine for us if the price was lower. As it is, it is a great special occasion spot."
