Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed everything from the wine list, to the ambience, to the table staff and seating. The fresh pizza ingredients in their onsite wood burning stove. Delicious."

  • "Upon entering Cotto A Legna, the first thing one notices is the smell of brick oven pizza-yum. But that is only the start. Everything here was delicious. From the seared tuna to salmon, to calamari with homemade marinara-it all satisfied. It is a cozy venue for dinner and when the weather starts to cooperate, a lovely al fresco option too. The bar is a fun place to have a glass of wine, and the tables can be configured to best suit a romantic twosome or a family of 6. Well priced and delicious."

  • "We came early, around 5, and had high hopes. We ordered seafood, which was good and beef medallions with potatoes. One filet was done to medium as ordered and all was very good. The second filet was very rare. When we mentioned it to the waitress she said " well what do you want me to do about it?" We said, "show it to your manager or kitchen". She said, " you ate into it and should have told me sooner". So, she was blaming us for this? Then she took it and gave no response, nothing from the manager. Very awkward! Then we ordered dessert, which was very good and left. Our waitress did come back and apologize for her comments, but never addressed the situation. Why would we go back when they do not seem to care?"

  • "Nice place for a casual dinner with a varied menu of pizza, salads, pasta and more. We have been here numerous times and always enjoyed the food and service. Good for couples and small groups."

  • "End an afternoon of shipping down Geneva's Third Street with fine food in a casual dining atmosphere with great service. It's a bit loud, but you forget about it once you're settled in."

  • "Great food and great ambience all with great service. This is a gem of a resturant and we have become regulars!"

  • "Had a really nice Friday evening dinner. This is Geneva in February, so everyone comes between 6-6:30pm. But our server hustled and took good care of us. Made good recommendations for food and wine. We shared Bruschetta, a pizza, a salad and a dessert. All good. A little slow on the pace but not bad. The restaurant has a good energy level and ambiance to it. Not too loud, but if you want quiet, then perhaps come after 7pm."

  • "Delicious as usual! The best pizza I've ever eaten. My husband and I now sit at the counter where the pizza guy does his thing. We love watching him make the pizzas!!"

  • "We had a 65th birthday party for my husband and there were 10 of us. The menu has a broad selection, and everyone was able to get something they loved, from a filet to risotto, and always an excellent pizza. We had the bruschetta to start and the varieties were very flavorful and innovative. The service was stellar, large groups can be difficult and all the food came together at the same time. Desserts were outstanding and they worked with us for a diabetic choice. I can highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "My wife and I visited Cotto A Legna for the first time this Valentine's Day and were very pleased with the delicious selections and generous portions. The bruschetta and grilled shrimp appetizers were amazing and filling. As usual, we ordered two loster and tagliatelle entrees and ate less than half each. They were rich and delicious, but we could have easily split one and had room for dessert. We'll know better next time how incredibly huge the servings are. We will definitely go back...it's not easy to find such an authentic restaurant with unique offering in the Western suburbs."

  • "Food and wine was wonderful, and at a very fair price. Like the atmosphere too, puts a modern twist onto a traditional Italian restaurant."

  • "The food was great! As well as the service, however the noise level was rather high an the tables were all very closely crammed together. This threw of the ambiance of the whole evening being as it was hard to hear and not as romantic as hoped for a claimed authentic Italian restaurant. Overall was a good fineee not great though!"

  • "Cotto A Legna is delicious!! My husband and I go here about 2 times a month to get our pizza fix!!"

  • "Great food, Zuppe di Mare excellent. Slow service; waiter apologized several times. Hostess patrols center isle with a clipboard; back and forth all night like a sentry on guard duty. Our table was on the main isle, so this bordered on obnoxious. Tables are angled; management probably feels this is a special look. Staff has trouble going between the tables. I was bumped 5 times. Before we put on our coats the busboy was cleaning our table (wait for us to leave). Bus staff should provide unobtrusive service, they were not (e.g. put down your fork, they were there "are you finished"). Great food, if you don't mind the service, noise, & tumult. Tip: don't sit on the main isle. A table by the wall will probably spare you the service issues."

  • "Went there on a Friday evening, terribly cold and snowy outside yet the restaurant was bustling and full. People were coming in the whole time we were there. High energy, noisy place because of the high ceilings, but the food was excellent. We started with an appetizer, the calamari was good, but the marinara sauce needs improvement. It was tasteless and runny, like tomato soup. For entrees, my wife had one of their wood fired pizzas and I had the seared ahi tuna special. They're known for their pizzas, it was very good, and the ahi tuna was awesome. The tuna was a generous portion and accompanied by vegetables and rice. Great wine list."

  • "This is a great place! Phenomenal staff and lots of great food options! Check it out! It's a favorite of ours. The cheese selection is excellent. The oven pizzas (more like really good flat bread) and pastas are top notch."

  • "Great place we go there all the time. Food is fabulous. One thing about the Hostess on New Years Eve she needs my help on how to treat people and make sure they are comfy."

  • "Everything we ordered came out so deliciously! We were very pleased with our dinner an experience. Service was a tad slow but the waitress was really sweet. It's cute inside but has a little weird of a layout. I will definitely be goin back in the future."

  • "On one of the coldest nights of the year, it was warm and toasty inside- perhaps due to the wood burning oven. That should have been our clue to stick to their pizza. Appetizers great-- lobster bisque and calamari. But the entrees were sub-par ( pork chop and pistachio crusted shrimp) . Each of our plates had food crowded together covered with sauces so that you couldn't really taste anything but sauce. Looking around though, other tables mostly had delicious looking pizzas! Being this is a wood fired pizza and wine bar, we wished we had stuck to the name. The atmosphere was nice and we will go back to try their specialty!"

  • "For this meal, we had several very picky adults and children with special dietary needs and wants. The staff at Cotto was very accommodating. They willingly prepared special dishes that were not on the menu and modified menu items. In doing this, our server never made us feel as though this was an imposition - which frequently happens. All of the members of our party who had special food needs asked us to bring them back to Cotto when they visit town because "this was the best meal that have had in the Chicago area and rates among the best we ever had." This was quite a relief because we generally have difficulties finding restaurants that meet their tastes and dietary needs. I couldn't ask for more."

  • "Delicious like usual!!! My husband and I are addicted to their pizza. We go here at least once a week to get our fix for the week. I have never had such delicious pizza in my life. I've never had anything here besides their pizza. Please try this place. I don't think you'll be disappointed. The inside of this restaurant is very upscale and definitely worth eating at."

  • "Our waiter, James, was attentive and informative. Food was great! 2 of us had fish , one pizza and one pasta. Servings were large, and while each of is took something home, the dishes were not overwhelming."

  • "First time at the restaurant, with 2 couples, had a veggie pizza as an appetizer, along with stuffed portabello mushrooms. Outstanding tastes. For dinner, had chicken marsala, cavatappi with chicken and spinach, mushroom ravioli, and salad. All of the entrees were excellent tasting and large enough portions to take home for another meal. Ended up getting a deconstructed cannoli and some pistachio gelato swirled with chocolate in a glass. Too much for even 4 people but it was great. Highly recommend the food and service here, the waitress was attentive and very friendly and kept our iced teas refilled at all times."

  • "I am a regular customer. I love the food. The menu has wood fired pizza that is just like the pizza we had in Italy."

  • "My family ate there Fri evening. It was very busy. Food came in an appropriate amt of time. My son had the pizza, it was soggy and cheese fell off. Tasted good, however. My other son had a shrimp pasta dish and I had the spinach chicken pasta dish. Both were very hot, which is good, and were delicious. My husband had a sausage pasta dish and he bit into a bone in the sausage. He nearly broke a tooth. He was not happy, but did not want to make a scene and at least did not break a tooth. Beware of the sausage. I don't think I will get him to go back. Wait staff was not very attentive."

  • "Went for dinner Saturday night and just happened upon this place on Open Table (didn't even know this place existed in my own town!). Seating by the door is drafty and chilly so definitely chose seating further in this bothers you. The pictures on the website make it appear cozier than it is. Very spacious and great attention to detail in the decor. Food was good. My date had the octopus and said that it seemed a bit over-grilled but it was still delicious. The caprese was a vision and delightful. Prices were a bit higher than I would expect, but it is downtown Geneva."

  • "We happened to find this place & decided to try it. Great thin-crust pizza, (individual size available) and salads, etc. The service was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and made suggestions. The pizza was delicious and there is a courtyard with outdoor dining available. We will go back again!"

  • "This restaurant has by far the best pizza I've ever eaten. I am addicted to this pizza. I can't get enough of the margherita pizza. My husband orders a different pizza every time we go and he has loved every one. I am extremely picky with pizza and I can't tell you enough how delicious it is. This pizza is not a heavy greasy pizza. It's almost feel like you are eating a healthy pizza since the crust is super thin and the ingredients are all fresh! If you are craving a tasty pizza this is the place to go. I haven't tried anything else here but I'm sure everything is delicious. This restaurant has a great atmosphere. It's very upscale and nicely decorated. It's usually never busy and I go here at least twice a month to get my pizza fix."

  • "Fun, friendly place. Food and service was great. I had the Fettuccine Carbonara (awesome). My wife had a brick oven pizza. Took a long time to get our food (believe the pizza was the source of the delay), though we were not in any hurry so it was fine with my wife and I. Our server was apologetic. We will definitely return here again."
