Diner Reviews
  • "From the reviews I was expecting very high quality food, prepared from scratch. But that was not my experience. The sauces were overlay sweet, bland, and seemed to me to be out of a can."

  • "An unexpected jewel of a restaurant. The menu is imaginative; the food delivered to the table more than lives up to its billing. The service is knowledgeable and friendly. If the weather is good, try to get one of the three outside tables."

  • "Everything was good - but we were surprised this restaurant was considered in the top 100 around the country. It was not bad at all and I don't intend for this to be a negative review - just not top 100."

  • "Quaint little restaurant close to old town Flagstaff. Service was very strange. Not sure if the server was having some medical problems or not. Food was mediocre. Not sure why this restaurant gets all the high ratings. Maybe we were there on a really "off" night. Chef did address our table. That's about the extent of "special" for this restaurant. Sorry that's all I can report."

  • "This was our first visit and we are anxious to return. Service was excellent and food was delicious. We were greeted immediatedly for our 8pm reservation and promptly seated in a perfect little alcove table. We had not asked for any special service but received the best we have had in a long while. The chef must be an award winner because my wife's Gorgonzola steak and my bouillabaisse was the fabulous, the best I have had since I had it in southern France."

  • "We eat at Cottage Place every time we visit Flagstaff to cool off. And every time we have a great dining experience. It is pricey but you get really excellent food and service and it's a very relaxing and enjoyable 2 hours. I rate this restaurant the top fine dining location in all of northern AZ. The chef, Frank, is always cordial and visits with diners. Every server that we've had in our multiple visits has been very good to excellent. I highly recommend Cottage Place for special dinners for couples. Making the reservation on-line worked perfectly."

  • "Scallop appetizer with cilantro crema sauce was the perfect starter for the meal. I would like to see a larger portion be an entrée on the menu. Second appetizer was a tamale wrapped in a husk with tomatillo sauce. Mushroom veloute soup was hearty with a varied collection of mushrooms. The palate cleansing sorbet was cool and refreshing before the Tenderloin with mash potatoes. The pineapple and mango flambé prepared table side finished a fabulous evening. And, I like knowing that I can attempt to prepare these dishes at home by following the recipes in "Cottage Place Flavors" cookbook. "

  • "We went here a couple months ago, so I'm delinquent writing a review. I'm not sure now exactly what the four of us ordered, but it was, hands down, the best meal we had in our 5 days in Flagstaff. I do remember, I think, that the Crab cakes, escargots, steaks, scallops, were all awesome. Everything, from the food to the service, was SO good that each couple ended up just having to buy the restaurant's cookbook. Yum."

  • "If you are in Flagstaff go to the Cottage Place. Nothing else needs to be said."

  • "I started my meal with the creamy Tomato Basil soup which was good to the last drop. Next I chose the Surf and Turf special that included wonderfully tender medallions of Beef Tenderloin, charbroiled, napped with an amazing Port Wine Demi-glaze. It was accompanied by 2 scrumptious crab cakes and freshly made scalloped potatoes. My date really enjoyed the Shrimp and Scallop Fettucine in a Chardonnay Cream Sauce! For dessert we shared the Chocolate Creme Brulee! Our server, Dillon was friendly and attentive without hovering, and the owner, Frank stopped by the table to see how everything was going. All in all it was a wonderful evening! Relaxing and delicious in this little spot tucked away a few blocks from the main street in Flagstaff."

  • "We celebrated a 60th birthday recently at Cottage Place, we were traveling and in Flagstaff as part of a vacation to the Grand Canyon. Wonderful food and service. Cozy ambiance. Our waiter, Carlton i believe, was very professional and yet personable. He gave thoughtful recommendations. The chef dropped by to see if we enjoyed our meal and we were able to give him an enthusiastic yes."

  • "This is a gem! I made a reservation 3 months in advance because I didn't want to miss an opportunity to go back here. The food, service and experience is fabulous. I think it is some of the best food that I have eaten and being from Los Angeles, we have a lot to choose from. They were late seating us and gave us champagne to toast for our special occasion while we waited. Seating is limited but worth the planning. Enjoy!!"

  • "The Cottage is a must have on your next trip to Northern Arizona. This would easily rate as a Michelin 4+ Star if it were located in any major market city. Food quality was off the charts great and service explicit. I enjoyed the 6 course Chef's tasting menu along with the paired wine flight and it was fantastic. Each flight was a flavor bomb for the mouth and the Cherries Flambe, made table side, capped off a perfect meal. Meal price was very reasonable given the quality of the food and service. Manager and Chef were both present on the floor throughout the evening insuring my experience was outstanding. Don't miss "The Cottage"! "

  • "Fantastic staff and chef, my wife and I were absolutely "wined and dined" - This is the best place to bring someone for a special occasion. (or if you are owing your wife a special night out). The chef and Owner personally asked us if there was anything we needed. And our waiter was on top of everything! People may say that this place is expensive, and it is, but it is NOT overpriced. You get what you pay for here and the food and service is beyond what most have experienced and I highly recommend the Cottage Place to anyone!"

  • "We had a wonderful meal celebrating our 34th wedding anniversary at Cottage Place. The only downside was that one of the servers (not ours) was quite loud when talking to other diners. She needs to keep her volume down to a much lower level. It was greatly appreciated that the owner (wife of the cook) came by our table to see how we were doing."

  • "Traveled to Flagstaff for a brief visit and found this place due to other reviews. We both loved the ambience, the service, and the food was excellent. We shared chateaubriand and it was cooked to perfection. The shrimp bisque was delicious. We were stuffed from the meal so no dessert, but the ones passing us by looked wonderful. I am sad this restaurant is in Flagstaff as I don't know when we'll get there again, but if we did, this would be our go to place!"

  • "I had mentioned on our open table reservation that I would like a "nice" table for an anniversary dinner - when we arrived we were greeted with a "happy anniversary" and sat at what I would consider the best table in the house (literally a house). I gave a "very good" for service instead of outstanding as our server was being trained, but for a trainee she did a fine job and her skilled trainer working with her was outstanding at making sure everything was going well. Food was great with beautiful plate presentation, we even got a table side visit from the Chef!! It is our goto for "special" dinners."

  • "This was our second dining experience at the Cottage Place and again we were not disappointed. We only get to Flagstaff about once or twice a year, but plan to make this a "must do" for future visits. The food was exceptional and the serve was outstanding. There are a wide range of menu items to satisfy every taste. I had the Filet Mignon and it melted in my mouth. My wife enjoyed the salmon and was equally pleased. The Cottage Place deserves all the accolades it has received!"

  • "All the food was absolutely top notch, perfectly prepared with fresh ingredients. They serve classic French foods, but the prices are very reasonable for the quality you get. We were also impressed that the restaurant was both elegant and professional, but not pretentious. We were on vacation and did not have the 'suit and tie', but we dressed nicely and did not feel uncomfortable at all. Don't get me wrong, you certainly could dress formal, but it's refreshing to have a more comfortable atmosphere with food quality equal to the best."

  • "My fiance and I dined at The Cottage Place for our one year anniversary, and the experience was phenomenal! The food is excellent, the service was amazing. My filet mignon steak was perfect. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special night out! Pricey, but the food and experience is well worth the cost!"

  • "We had a amazing night. Service was a 10. The waiter answered all your questions. The owner/chef came by to make sure everything was ok. We will be going again soon."

  • "We keep going to Cottage Place with the intent to have the chateaubirand for two, but we have opted for the monthly Tasting Menu both times now. It's just too hard to resist. From the seafood ravioli appetizer to the crepes suzette for dessert, all courses were superb. Their variation of the cobb salad was the only weak point in the meal, but even so, it was excellent. The wine pairings with every course were spot-on. I enjoyed the Rickshaw Pino Noir immensely. We were celebrating our 8th wedding anniversary and requested a romantic table; they gave us the best spot in the restaurant. Well worth the price overall, we will be back again."

  • "I looked up this place on a whim, because I was looking for more things to do in flagstaff that might be a little more upscale than Olive Garden, or wandering downtown. But boy, did I stumble upon a gem. I can easily see why this place is considered in the top 100 restaurants in the U.S.A. However small it be (like a very small building, or a home that was converted into a restaurant) the size allowed greater concentration of energy, overall: and the positivism of the staff will make you feel right at home. The food? The best I have ever had. I'm still thinking about my french silk pie, and Gorgonzola steak. I doubt I can eat anywhere else in Flagstaff now, because it won't be good enough. Size in mind, you MUST reserve, to be seated."

  • "I researched Travelocity prior to traveling to Flagstaff to check out NAU with my 17 year old daughter. Since she's a bit of a foodie, I made a reservation. We had to wait about ten minutes despite our reservation, but I understand that with such a small place. It's set in an old house and converted to a charming restaurant. They offered a 6 course tasting menu, add the wine pairings (3 half glasses of wine, wish it was more) for $89, which was my choice. A variety of tastes and everything was delicious. Crepes Suzette were being prepared tableside, and that was my choice for dessert. The crepe was too thick and just kind of laid on top of the cinnamon ice cream and homemade caramel. That's my only complaint. I look forward to going back."

  • "We can't wait for the encore!!! Great find in Flagstaff. Romantic ambience, excellent service and amazing food. It made our Valentine's weekend!! My fiance said "even the butter tasted great", we can't wait to go back. But be sure to make reservations!!"

  • "My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner here this past weekend while visiting Flagstaff. The atmosphere is very charming, although tables are quite close together which doesn't lend to much privacy. Both the soup and the salad were excellent. My husband had a pasta with scallops and shrimp that was good and I had a shrimp over quinoa that was very tasty. We both enjoyed a tableside crepe suzette. We would definitely return when we are in the area."
