Costata, the fifth Manhattan restaurant from the Altamarea Group brings a contemporary steak concept to New York's vibrant SoHo neighborhood. Our extensive dry aged meat program is complemented by Chef Michael White’s famous handmade pastas and an innovative crudo selection.

    third time in two months that we returned and this time was OUTSTANDING!!!!! as all the other times have been but this Saturday we really went to town and savored every mouth full we will travel from long island any time for this type of food and service. it just does not get any better thank you to Michael White and his team for this gem.

    Had dinner here with two friends on Sunday night and we were somewhat disappointed. Tomahawk ribeye was tender but lacked flavor and temp was a bit off, apps and sides were good. I love Mares but I'm not sure I would do Costata again.

    Never before have I walked into a classy restaurant and heard Europe's "The Final Countdown", followed by a Led Zeppelin song. But that's what you get here... truly non-traditional music, classic steaks, excellent cocktails, and attentive service. Overall we liked it. The food was very good, nothing special...but if you want a good steak it's a safe bet. Portions are ample, so pace yourself if you order multiple courses as we did. These guys know how to make classic cocktails too... best Manhattan we had during our stay in NYC.

    The food was so delicious from the rosemary foccacia bread and the pork lardo dip to the signature delicious Michael White pasta...He never disappoints!! The space has always been too big and odd for SoHo but I hope this place sticks around.

    My beef filet was great. The roast corn polenta is a must have - excellent. Got a surprise free dessert for my birthday w/ candle, and the waitress Amber was lovely. The old fashioned was sub par, and the pasta sizes were teeny. Pricey menu by Chef Michael White, but the meat and accompanying black pepper pancetta sauce was very good.

    It's not often that you come across a restaurant that does more than one type of dish perfectly, but Costata is an exception. Not only are the crudos and pasta exquisite (two favorites are the warm seafood salad with a bounty of fresh scallops, shrimp, squid and octopus, and the tagliatelle with brown butter and wild mushrooms), but the porterhouse for two was impeccable. Aged beef cooked to a perfect medium rare, slightly funky with an amazing crust was made even more perfect when accompanied by rich creamed spinach and crispy artichokes. Service is discreet but attentive, and the wine expert at our table found a bottle that was decanted and enjoyed by all. I'll be back the next time I am entertaining guests.

    Love the uni pasta and garganelli. Tomato salad is way too expensive for what it is. Pork belly app was tasty. Octopus was good but I've had better. Stick with the pastas!

    Waiters and hostess were combining forces to come to our table every 3 min...I counted. For some this might be delightful, but for someone trying to have a conversation over a meal, the constant interruption became annoying.

    This is a charming restaurant, with excellent service, good food and a tolerable noise level (rare nowadays and much appreciated). Their steak dishes and vegetables are very good, though the fries are slightly above ordinary.

    Went here for Restaurant Week lunch. I had the steak tartare (excellent), the sirloin tips (delicious, but a bit too rare for my taste), and the mascarpone (very good). Service was attentive and friendly. The place was nice but the the tables were a little close to each other.

    We didn't get the Costata, but the Restaurant Week prix fixe lunch was great! We tried the steak tartar, a beet salad, the skate with the creamiest polenta and roasted corn, and steak tips. Everything was cooked well, though the steak was a bit uneven (ranged from blue to medium rare). The desserts were both good. One was similar to tiramisu and the other was a beautiful cup of chocolate mousse, pistachio cake, and cheesecake topped with berries. We hope to return soon!

    From start to finish our lunch was wonderful! We took advantage of restaurant week to try this restaurant for lunch and we will return for dinner soon. Service was excellent. Food was perfect. Presentation was so impressive. I had the burger which was so flavorful and cooked to perfection. My husband had the skate which was delicious also. I am looking forward to our return visit.

    went for restaurant week- such a great deal. food portion was large and everything was delicious. some small snags: there were flies due to the front door being open. i was handed a blank menu by accident, which was fine. then instead of being charged for two glasses of wine, i was charged for two bottles. hopefully this will improve, but food was worth going for.

    Almost empty at lunch, blaring rock music made it hard to hear. Staff pleasant. Ordered "Famed" Costata burger rare, it came well done with large piece of blue masking tape attached to plate, which I gave back when asked how was my burger. He offered to redo, but I thought I'd just eat it, didn't realize the poor meat quality included grizzle that stuck in my teeth. My beet salad was delicious, but green salad overdressed, strings still attached to beans.And for good measure overly salted. Tagliatelle was sticky and had dry ends, as if left uncovered when drying fresh pasta. Dessert of "mixed berries" on ricotta pudding was just some off tasting blueberries that during the height of the season is unforgivable. Costata..cross it off!

    Went here for lunch. The burger was like nothing I've ever had. Absolutely the best tasting and most satisfying burger I've ever had. And everyone at the table of four of us agreed. Also got to taste the skate with polenta and that was another outstanding dish. The wine selections offered by the glass was very well thought out and there's something for every taste and dish pairing. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive and the room was very comfortable and relaxing. Good background music too. Can't wait to try Costata for dinner.

    We arrived late (after calling them to warn them) and they were incredibly helpful. We were seated within minutes, and after telling the waiter we were in a rush because of work, they made sure our food came out very fast while still making this meal memorable. Amazing food! The atmosphere is good for lunch but nothing special. Would highly recommend!

    My boyfriend and I came here for restaurant week to sample the menu we had heard so much about. We each started with different appetizers, he had the beef tartar and I had the beet salad. Both excellent and I made him share with me! And we both had the burger, which was dripping down the sides of our hands and was so delicious we could barely speak while finishing our meal. The cheese, and bacon marmalade was just perfect. A great way to experience a fabulous restaurant- and I will definitely be back for more another time.

    We had a reservation and when we arrived after 25 minutes of taxi ride they told us it was closed for the day. We couldn't believe it. Nobody called us or send us an email to cancel the reservation. Incredible! I would never recommend that restaurant.

    Maybe other people were eating outside on the summer night we went, but the place was about 25% full. We ate around 9:30 pm so it's a little concerning when most of the restaurant is empty. Service was fair, it seemed the manager took our order. Steak was good but very salty. Nothing special here-mushrooms were average. Pretty place inside, just didn't have much vibe.

    I came for dinner with my husband and some friends from out of town on a Saturday evening. Our expectations were high, based on recommendations, and the quality of food blew us away. Creative pasta choices and great cuts of meat that can rival any Manhattan steakhouse.

    It was very quiet. Loud, horrible music which did not suit the restaurant at all!!! It was like rock music!?!? It was very quiet too, unlike when it first opened. The food was very good as usual, but I'm not sure if I'd rush back there - the music was awful!

    I do not give 5 stars with ease. I was absolutely impressed with Costata from my first to last bite. First of all the drinks, champagne and wine list were fantastic. The sommelier "Tim" was fantastic. Wise far beyond his young looks ! Ty the London Calling cocktail it does not disappoint. The crudo was amazing, lamb off the charts and the side of artichokes were the best I have ever tasted. Dessert was decadent yet light at the same time, chamomile gelato to die for ! Is it my birthday yet because I cannot wait to return. Hands down my new favorite in NYC !

    the steaks at Costata put all others including the over priced and snootie Peter Lugers to SHAME!! We had a wonderful dinner from start to finish and the servers were terrific. My one complaint tune down the music on a Saturday night we want conversation not a shouting match. However, keep the fine food coming and thank you

    In New York w/wife to see a broadway play - wanted a high end steak house and found this Gem - Lobster was $48 you can't beat that in NY - From the hostess to the sommelier to the waiter etc., awesome service - Food good, wine awesome - Steak was ok - I have been to a ton of high end steak houses so my expectations maybe to high... Anyway, no bone in rib eye so a little disappointed.... anyway food was good and we had a great time - nice ambience

    Great place with many great offerings including hands down one of the best steaks in city. Everything from the crudos to the tartare to the steak was excellent. Also had excellent guidance from their sommelier. Overall a great spot and it won't disappoint.

    I have been to all the Top Steakhouses all over the USA. My Ribeye steak was up there only second maybe to Peter Luger. Staff was excellent. Brought my own wine and adhered to their two bottle limit and I thought I was told over the phone it was a $50 corkage charge, but $50 per bottle was charged. Well worth it sommelier was a very personable gentlemen.

    I went to Costata for first time since it opened and it was an amazing experience! BR Guests used to own Fiamma, at the same location, and Michael White was the executive chef. Fiamma was my favorite and I went there for years. Then BR Guest got greedy and messed up with the staff and restaurant eventually closed. I'm so happy that Chef White has taken ownership of the location and Costata is outstanding, all Fiamma is back, all over again. Beef tartare, oysters, Garganelli Fiamma, Tagliatelle with morels and pistachios, the lobster, all fantastic! Drink menu is also incredible. Desserts could improve a little... they were really good but not phenomenal. I will definitely go back, no doubt!

    Knowing this was a Michael White restaurant my expectatoins were high, but each and every one of them was surpassed. This restaurant gives you such a wide variety of courses from the raw seafood to pastas to steak at a quality level that makes you think it specializes in each. I could not of been more sastified with my dinning experience, and I think everyone has to try this restaurant!

    Costata is a charming restaurant; with friendly staff, warm atmosphere and mediocre food. I took my friend for a celebratory dinner after reading rave reviews about Costata's dry aged steaks. A very friendly and knowledgeable sommelier (or captain?) helped me choose a very good bottle of Cali Cabernet to enjoy with our steaks that was trully excellent. But the food....it just fell flat for us. The Mayan Prawns were very tough, rubbery, and the dish was pretty bland. Same for my friends Bone Marrow Salad, which needed salt / acidity. The steaks were cooked perfectly, but also needed salt and a better accompaniment. And the steak knives were dull! Overall for the price of the meal, the food needs to be improved upon by leaps and bounds.

    A friend of mine recommended me this restaurant. So, when I was in SoHo decided to have lunch there. What a nice experience we had!!!! Very good food (soft and delicious) with a very kind service. This is a restaurant to keep in the short list of good restaurants in NYC!!!
