Diner Reviews
  • "We have always enjoyed excellent food, service, and ambiance at Costa Brava Bistro. Owner, Angeles and her staff go out of their way to greet you, and make you feel welcomed. Even on a crowded evening (as it was this recent visit), she and her staff ensured that we were comfortable, that our meals were perfect. Love this bistro, and happy that it's in our Bellaire neighborhood!"

  • "We had a large group for dinner, and everyone was quite pleased with the quality of the food. Food is authentic Spanish-French, and it is evident that they use quality ingredients."

  • "I was looking for an upscale restaurant with solid reviews for my husband and I to go to for my birthday dinner. Costa Brava looked like a perfect fit. And once I saw Paella on the menu for myself and beef fillet for my husband, I was sold. We made reservations for 7:45 on a Friday night. We were seated about 10 minutes after our reservation, which was understandable for a Friday night. Our waiter was friendly and very attentive. The grilled octopus was delicious, my paella was very flavorful and my husband loved his beef fillet entree with mashed potatoes. And the sangria was strong, which I appreciate! Between the great service, amazing food and birthday crepes they brought out for me (!), a birthday girl really can't go wrong!"

  • "My wife and I recently traveled to Houston and (based on Open Table reviews) made a reservation. We were not disappointed! The entire experience was fantastic, from the food, to the wine to the service. The hostess (and owner) Angeles made us feel like we were frequent regulars. The suggestions for food and wine pairings were spot on and we always appreciate places that do not upwell and suggest the most expensive wine on the menu. We loved it so much that we canceled our reservation the next evening and came back a second time. We had tried some of the seafood dishes the first night and then tried some of the meat dishes the second. Everything was superb. If we lived in the area we would frequent this restaurant often."

  • "It's nice to find a restaurant where the menu has variety and the staff is attentive. There is a wold of difference between a chain and this neighborhood gem. Great spot for a couple or two couples for a special dinner."

  • "We have dined at this restaurant several times with always good experience. This evening was a fully-booked wine dinner. In my opinion, either the kitchen was unable to keep up with demand or/and the service was insufficiently staffed. Long wait for first course, 2nd and 3rd courses well spaced, excellent dessert. Wines with each course were 1] Good; 2] Excellent; 3] NOT memorable. porsche1"

  • "We enjoyed an excellent wine dinner at Costa Brava. The amount of food was ample, but not too much, and, somewhat on the lighter side, so we didn't feel stuffed at the end. The first course was mussels,a scallop and clams in a light broth -- just right! Next was a breaded cod -- again, not too much or too heavy. The main course was a pair of beautiful rib lamb chops on a bed of mashed potatoes -- very tasty. Last was a crepe around raspberry mousse topped with chocolate sauce and hazelnuts. Yummy! The wines were from France -- the first two were from the Loire Valley, which is a bit unusual. Service was superb. All in all, it was a very good evening!"

  • "I have visited Costa Brava Bistro several times for lunch. The food is consistently interesting and wonderful. The prix fixe menu is a great value and gives you an opportunity to try several dishes. I have never been disappointed. Costa Brava also has really good, flavorful coffee. Nothing can ruin a perfect meal like a bad cup of coffee. The waitstaff is reliably well-informed, non-intrusive, and always there when you need them."

  • "I just love this place! The perfect combination of warm ambiance, vigilant owner presence, friendly and capable waitstaff, and fabulous food. Took a friend for dinner this week and made a fan of her, too. Paella is rich and succulent with the perfect balance of seafood and rice, flavored to perfection. Quail were tender and flavorful. The apple tart is indescribably delicious! Who knew even the ice cream was house-made?! You don't have to leave Bellaire to enjoy a 5-star meal and feel great about taking guests with you!"

Overall, a great evening; we will definitely return!"

  • "Costa Brava is the best restaurant that ever happened in Bellaire. We sorely needed this type of restaurant. From the moment you enter the door to when you leave the service is exceptional. Food and wine choices are really nice. Our favorite are the mussels."

  • "You absolutely must try this place. Everything from the service to the food is top notch and some of the best I have had. We had a party of four and we were seated right at our reservation time and since this was our first time we each tried something different. We started off with the Octopus, Foie Gras and Charcuterie plate appetizers. All were amazing but the Octopus was the standout, by far the most tender and succulent I've ever had.For the mains we had the lamb chops, paella, seared duck breast and the off menu veal tenderloin. All were cooked perfectly, flavorful and delicious and great to the last bite.Despite being really full we had to try the desserts sinceeverything was great.Crepes and bread pudding were terrify. TheownerisA++."

  • "Was met at the door by one of the owners who quickly showed us to our table. Service was quick and helpful in making our selections. The owner later came back to check on us which was a very nice touch. Overall the meal was delicious and we will definitely return in the future."

  • "We have enjoyed every meal at Costa Brava, lunch and dinner. The food is delicious, fresh and presented in the most appetizing way. The owner of the restaurant is gracious and knows her business. My favorite restaurant in Houston."

  • "Dining here is as welcoming as going to a friend's home who has prepared a star cuisine just for you sparing no details. The owner is gracious and gives you attention which is quite special, relaxing and heartwarming. We spent $70 on a bottle of wine which was superb. Everything we ordered we enjoyed. Each of us requested little alterations to the order of our choice which were smoothly accommodated. Our waiter was a pro - did a thorough job without ever calling too much attention."

  • "We returned with out of town guests and enjoyed a stellar dinner. Two of us had the stuffed quail special and another had the veal special. I had the smooth as silk gazpacho and the grilled octopus with potatoes in a spicy oil. The bread was perfect with it to sop up the spicy oil. We had the Creme Catalan, crepes and rice pudding for dessert. YUM! We also shared a bottle of French syrah which was delicious. Costa Brava never disappoints."

  • "Costa Brava is quiet enough to talk! It was a real treat to be able to have conversation with my friend over lunch. We made our lunch choices and enjoyed the complimentary olives and toast rounds as we chatted. My salad was beautiful, tasty, and just the right amount. I can say the same for my grilled shrimp entre. I so appreciate having portions that are delicious and satisfy appetite and taste without being wasteful and overfilling. Then dessert, the crepe with hazelnut, chocolate, caramel and cream. Oh my goodness! Again, just the right amount, not too sweet, not too rich. It was the Goldilocks dessert, "Just right." My Costa Brava experience was lovely. Thank you."

  • "The food was scrumptious! I had the mussels while my dining partner had the white bean soup and the veal special. Everything was what a foodie would crave. I even checked in on a guy having paella at the table next to mine and he said it tasted like the paella he had in Madrid. I can't wait to get back and Terry some more delicious morsels!"

  • "I took my wife to Costa Brava for Valentine's Day and we loved every part of the dining experience. The wine was excellent, my pork was perfectly cooked, and my wife's paella was the best she ever had (high praise since she used to live in Spain). The bread pudding and cafe con leches were the perfect way to complete a fabulous meal. Our waiter was extremely warm and knowledgable--she even brought chocolates for us to try with our coffee. We will be returning to Costa Brava very soon!"

  • "We love this restaurant. We love Spain, its food and its wine, and dinner here is a delight. I took advantage of Open Table's priority seating, and we were shown to the best table in the house. The owner/manager was most gracious, and the service was excellent. If you order the Gazpacho Andaluz and eat it with your eyes closed and wish real hard, you will be transported to Sevilla. Most restaurants have you order Paella in advance, and you can't make any alterations. At Costa Brava, it is made to order, and you can have them leave out whatever you wish. And it is fabulous. Don't get me started on dessert. Can't wait to go back."

  • "Food is awesome and the rating really depends on the rarer and their status in dining experiences. All I can say is great food but a bit pricey for the portion. And again its delicious and will definitely try all menu available. Try paella for starters real Madrid style paella."

  • "Upon entering we were left standing there for at least 5 minutes without anyone greeting us. Our waitress seated us without saying a word and we were left to peruse the wine menu without being served any water for a good 10 minutes. We thought it was strange, when our waitress brought my main dish out and only the appetizer for my wife. Apparently, she had completely forgotten my wife's main dish. My lamb chops had gotten cold because I decided to wait for my wife's main dish to be served. Incredibly, after realizing her mistake, the waitress brought her the same appetizer dish!!! All this time, not one word of apology."

  • "This is a neighborhood gem with great food, service, and ambiance. My husband and I had the braised short ribs (an off the menu special), the salmon appetizer, mussels appetizer, and the arugula salad. It was delicious. The service was pretty flawless - attentive and friendly. Ambiance was energetic; lots of animated conversation. Decor is very pretty. The wine list is extensive and very respectable. My only negatives: the food and wines were fairly pricey and the parking can be difficult. The small parking lot is shared by 3 restaurants plus a nice cream shop and there is no street parking close by."

  • "This is a special dinning hit in our family. Love the quail and short ribs, which are featured as specials but have been on the menu the 3 times we have been there. Service staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Small place with big flavors. Reservations a must."

  • "A very special spot in Bellaire…almost hate to tell you about it! I grew up in Bellaire and never thought I would see this….precious place. Excellent food, service and ambiance! We had the Gazpacho & White Bean/Chorizo Soup for starters..Paella (very good) & Snapper w/Crabmeat (excellent) for entrees..Apple Tart with Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream (out of this world) for dessert! They start you off with a complimentary Tapenade and Olive portion to tease you to buy more…it is excellent! Everything about Costa Brava is great….don't let the parking in front discourage you….there is a huge parking lot behind with a walkway directly to the front door. ENJOY! Too…..they have a nice wine list and a full service bar!"
