A word from Cosina Grill
Introducing real Mexican cuisine without the burning experience but with all the great taste and freshness of Mexico.(BYOB)

At Cosina Grill we offer authentic Mexican gastronomy with a touch of contemporary flavors. All of our dishes come from recipes that have been passed for generations in the families of the owners, Chef Israel Olguin and his wife, restaurant manager, Maria Aguilar.

We spoil our customers with a variety of unique flavors, salsas and moles, as well as with a comfortable and warm atmosphere, surrounded by typical folklore pieces that are displayed along with information of their origin and meaning, thus providing visitors with a full taste of the rich Mexican culture through all of their senses.

Moreover, good service is a trademark at Cosina Grill where our friendly staff individually welcomes all our visitors while Chef Israel often visits the dining room to make sure everybody is enjoying a great meal.

A neighborhood gem. We brought our own tequila and couintreau and they mixed us a few pitchers of amazing margaritas. Their guacamole was delicious as was the mixed fajita plate for two. If you have room for dessert after the large portions of apps and entrees I would recommend the flan. The service was excellent as well. Highly recommend this for a casual and decently priced meal.

I always drive by Cosina Grill on my way to work, so I wanted to check it out. My boyfriend and I checked it out on a Friday night. It's BYOB, which is great. The ambiance is great, and the food was pretty good. It's a little pricey for Mexican food, but overall, the experience was fun. It's a good location for date night or for dinner with the girls.

As the Hopleaf and Lady Gregory pack 'em in, its nice to still have quiet and more off-the-beaten path restaurant that is a short walk from my home. Cosina is just that! In addition to BYOB (with only $1 cork fee per person), the absolutely exceptional wait service, and the quiet ambiance, Cosina's food was quality and cost effective. The plates are large enough to share, but I would suggest ordering a couple of things and splitting. The mole is not to miss! It was perfect, and I have eaten ALOT of mole in my life. Overall, I think Cosina is a fantastic neighborhood gem. If I moved I might not travel to visit, but whilst in the neighborhood I might become a regular.

The food was good. It felt like a blend of traditional Mexican food with a touch of modern ascetics. What made this place great for me was the character of the restaurant. The artwork, colors on the wall, and the attention to traditional detail was appreciated.

Dinner with a dear friend at Cosina was a wonderful evening. Everything from the bacon wrapped dates to the poblano pepper mashed potato was flavorful and well prepared with a lovely presentation. I also want to make a special note about the service. I walked in with a couple of shopping bags and a garment bag and asked if they could store my items. Not only did they store my stuff, they reminded me they had them as I was on my way out the door at the end of the evening. Lastly, I've become a big fan of BYOB restaurants, so that's just another plus in my book. I'll be back. :)

I'm a stickler for good chips and salsa and dislike when restaurants do multiple mediocre salsas instead of one really good one. However, at Cosina all three salsas were really delicious, along with their steak tacos and pork tamales. Plus, our waiter was one of the best waiters I've ever had. He was so kind and attentive.

Yelpers helped us try this place in our neighborhood the first time. This was our second visit and it was even better than the first! The food is delicious, the 3 salsas are really all outstanding, and the friendly staff makes you feel at home. This time, I ordered a dish that maybe not as many non-regulars get, and the waiter complimented me on the choice (always a good sign, right?) and when I gushed how much I was enjoying it, he sent the chef out to say hello. He shared that it was his mother's recipe :) the Tilapia Hidalguense. It's BYO with very modest corkage fees. Easy street parking.

Cosina Grill is a gem of an Andersonville BYO. The food is fresh and fabulous - especially notable are the salsas and the mole. The interior is very pleasant and colorful. The staff is welcoming and helpful. We will definitely be back to try lots of other items that appealed on their menu.

We opted to try Cosina Grill because it is a BYOB. Although the guac was rather tasteless, the rest of the food was great, and the portions, while not overly generous, were beyond adequate. We liked that a soup or salad choice came with the meal. We would definitely go back and recommend to others.

Second visit was not as good as first but food was still really good. Mole sauce was a little bland and didn't have a lot of flavor but the wait staff was very accommodating and were extremely friendly and professional. I would still recommend this place to other neighbors who want really good Mexican food.

Chicago has many excellent Mexican restaurants. So, there has to be something special about Cosina Grill for me to bring it to your attention. A small double storefront in the western edge of the Andersonville neighborhood, the walls display Mexican folklore, and wooden tables are in two pleasant rooms. Say the secret word, and you get a free order of guacamole, try "piggybank! Family owned and operated, the restaurant reflects the background of owner/chef Israel Olguin and his wife Maria, with authentic regional family recipes and with warm and friendly service. Everything that we have tried here has been excellent, and I recommend it highly for the restaurant's value, quality, and friendly (if sometimes a little slow) service.

It's a BYOB restaurant. It is a pop and mom operated business serving very home made style meals with home made goodness. You may have to wait a bit longer if you are in a group because of it's modest operation. The chef was nice to come out and converse with us. We were a bit ambiguous with the mole that it prides about. It had a stronger taste than we are accustomed to yet it had a "burnt" after taste. I may have to try it again next time around. The service was quite slow; but we welcomed the idea of not to be rushed. I assume everything was cooked to order and the chef does all the work in the kitchen. There were only 2-3 tables full; so I wonder what the service would be like if it was busy. Otherwise, it was very good comfort food.
