Diner Reviews
  • "Traveling from Boston to visit my 92 year old father for Easter, I wanted to take him out to a nice restaurant - a treat he doesn't experience often, living alone since my mom passed away. I chose Cornell's based on location, reputation, web reviews, and the fact that my dad had heard of it. I requested a quiet table because of my dad's hearing aids. Joanne welcomed us warmly at the front desk and gave us a lovely, quiet corner table. Our waitress, Nicole, was a classy veteran who radiated friendliness and took great care of us. The food was outstanding - the Caprese appetizer the best I've ever had. Veal Parm & Chicken Marsala were especially outstanding. We had a truly wonderful meal and evening - thank you, Cornell's!"

  • "We had a fabulous dinner on Friday night! We usually just go there for date night, but took our boys (ages 9 & 10) there as it was a special day for our 10 year old and he wanted Italian food. Everything was outstanding! The service was wonderful- Barbara made the evening very special for our son! She was so sweet and funny! Also, it was wonderful to see JoAnne still there and personally checking on all of the tables! We love Cornell's! Thanks for a great night!"

  • "Went to Cornells for a family birthday dinner. Our waiter (can't remember his name) was very friendly and accomadating especially to the older members in our group. The food was overall excellent, I would just recommend less butter/oil in the cooking of fish and vegetables."

  • "Cornell's never disappoints! The food and service is fabulous. We request a table in the front to enjoy Ryan's TLC. Varied menu, great cocktails, and interesting specials. Highly recommend!"

  • "We hadn't been to Cornells in a while so we were looking forward to this visit. We were graciously seated by our hostess in the cozy bar as we had requested in advance. The waitress was very pleasant and attentive from start to finish. The hot seafood antipasto was as delicious as we had remembered but the caesar salad was a disappointment. Half of the lettuce was brown and we were surprised to see that we were charged an extra dollar for anchovies, usually standard fare on this type of salad. The two veal dishes were delicious but overall, compared with other great Italian restaurants in the area, this was just okay."

  • "Cornell's restaurant on north jay street in schenectady, ny is one of the best Italian restaurants in the capital district. A special occasion or just a dinner out--- perfect for all. The staff is fantastic and accommodating. The veal saltimboca is my favorite and their cavatelli is done just right."

  • "We were celebrating a birthday, but our waitress was rude, dismissive and even spilled sauce from the plate right onto the lap of one of the party. She said, "Oh, what happened? Want me to get a napkin?" Her attitude and dismissive tone kept us from even staying for one of their wonderful desserts. We had been before and loved it, but if this had been our first visit we wouldn't bother going back!!"

  • "Whenever we are going to a show at Proctors of SLOC we always consider Cornell's as one of our dining spots. Good food and service. Always accommodate our needs and help us get to the show on time and still enjoy our dining experience."

  • "My husband & I always dine at Cornell's when we attend a show at Proctor's. We both enjoyed our veal dinners, which were perfectly prepared. This time however, my appetizer, clams casino, was overcooked making the clams chewy; my husbands sautéed calamari was wonderful. I asked that the pasta that comes with the veal picatta be served with the picatta sauce. It arrived with red sauce, but was quickly returned to the kitchen for the requested white sauce. Overall, with the exception of the clams casino appetizer our experience was very good and we will return!"

  • "We showed up 15 minutes early and were promptly sat at an extra table for 2 that was right off the entry and in the middle of the restaurant. There little room on either side of the table, so my wife and I were regularly bumped into and jostled by other customers and the staff. Due to the amount of people, we had to wait a long time to get our salads and then main course. The steak that I ordered rare came out medium well and looked like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for an hour. The Veal dish that my wife ordered had very small portions and was extremely bland. Our side dish came out about 10 min after the main course. The long wait times for our food forced us to package most of our food to go. The food was subpar."

  • "Our experience at Cornell's was excellent. We were seated quickly even though not all of our party had arrived and our drink order was taken. Our table was in a relatively quiet spot and we received prompt and friendly service throughout the evening. The owner visited our table to be assured that all was in order and that we were happy. The food, as usual, was marvelous. We were more than content."

  • "This was my first trip to Cornells. It started off weak.. Didn't care for our table and took too long to get our drinks. I was ready to write it off after the included bread and salad were just so-so, but then I received my Veal Alfredo. This was one of the best meals I've had our in a while, and it was the BEST Alfredo sauce I have ever had. I will definitely be back.. I'll just request a different table."

  • "We made a reservation for dinner before Proctor's. The service was great. They served us in time to make the show. We had a table in a comer which allowed our group of nine to enjoy conversation. All enjoyed the selection and preparation of the food. Lovely meal. Very ambitious menu with a dinner special including appetizer, pasta and entree."

  • "I love going to Cornell's for their four course dinner special on Tuesdays for $20. The portions are just right and I get to experience different dishes that I might not normally order. It is a wonderful deal and I am surprised that it is not advertised more. (When I went on the Tuesday during Restaurant Week, people at a nearby table had no idea that this special was offered on a weekly basis). Liz was our server and she was exceptional. Very friendly atmosphere from all staff."

  • "What a great place to eat and socialize. As busy as it was, it wasn't so loud and crazy that you couldn't hear others and there was no need to shout. The waitress was fantastic. She timed things perfectly and was attentive without being smothering. The food was great, love love the hot antipasto. If I had to say anything it would be the difficulty parking. Highly recommend!"

  • "My husband & i always enjoy Cornell's so we decided to try it for Restaurant Week and were not disappointed. The 4-course special offerings were diverse and our choices were simply great. Service was, as always, friendly and attentive. The place was packed but we were seated immediately. Decor upgrades also enhanced our overall positive dining experience. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys good food, nice atmosphere, and good service."

  • "Note to self and to hostesses when dining with an older person do not sit in the bar area. The table was spacious which is unique for a bar area but the noise level made it difficult for my hard of hearing dining partner to hear me. Other than that the food was delicious and the portions were perfect. The waitstaff was very helpful but not intrusive."

  • "It was our first time at this restaurant, we went during restaurant week. I was extremely impressed the food was fantastic. Every course from the appetizer to the main course were great. I recommend trying the squid appetizer in delicious marinara sauce, it was very tender and flavorful. Don't miss the bolognese sauce which was terrific. I love really good bleu cheese dressing and theirs is the best I've had. The 3 cheese veal is also very yummy. We had no complaints and the price was right. We can't wait to go back."

  • "There were 3 of us. Appetizers and dinner were served in a nice leisurely manner. The food was very good and most portions were quite large. The risotto was exceptionally delicious. The only disappointment was the shrimp dish. 4 shrimp for $23??"

  • "4 first timers, but believe me...it won't be our last time! The menu was extensive and sounded so great that we had a hard time choosing! There is definitely something for everyone on this menu! We all ordered something different and all LOVED our meals! We had veal, seafood, and chicken dishes. The food was truly delicious and they served very good sized portions! Our meals came with delicious fresh Italian bread, soup or salads, pasta, or potato and vegetables. One person ordered an appetizer of chicken livers which was enough for four people and very flavorable indeed! Our waitress was extremely personable, warm, and friendly and did a great job serving us.She was awesome ! This restaurant is a keeper!"

  • "Have wanted to eat at Cornell's for some time and this is the first time. won't be the last! On line reservation system worked flawlessly, with an e-mail reminder the day before. For popular shows at Proctor's make your reservations early! Seated promptly. Parking could be tough as the parking lot was pretty full at 530. Appetizers were famiily style, so we sampled.. Mushroom risotto, clams casino, calamari in red sauce Mmmmmmmm! I always try out a new Italian place with chicken parm which was fabulous and eggplant parm was great as well. Homemade pasta was yummy. Often my homemade sauce is better.....but not this time. No room for dessert and if you want dessert before a show, probablly a good idea to make a 5 PM reservation."

  • "Cornell's is coming off a major interior face lift of its dining rooms and bar and the change could not be move pronounced. Vibrant new colors, dark wainscoating and new carpets are matched with over sized photos of Italy taken by a family friend on a recent trip abroad creating a fresh 2014 chic urban look. The food however is the star, don't miss the Utica Greens as a starter or the classic Pasta Fagoli Soup. If the veal chop is special when you visit, don't think twice.. order it. All in all the huge menu has something for everyone and from the lack of take home bags from our party of four, it was all outstanding. Only negative would be the lackluster wine and beer list."

Shew as very helpful and had a great personality. The $20.00 Dinner special was delicious and the other menu items were reasonable. We can't wait to come back."

  • "Experience was great. Went as a recommendation fom friends who have been there before. Generous servings of food that is delicious. Only downside is they charge for refills on beverages which I do not believe was noted on the menu. Only discovered this as we ordered another soda and iced tea before our salads even came out. The waitress was kind enough to let us know before bringing them. However it would have been nice to know before gulping down the very small glass that cost 2.50."

  • "Food was very good, service excellent, food served promptly. Soups were excellent. Two of us dined; she order chicken francaise though not on the menu, but they accomodated, and I ordered eggplant parm. Her chicken fraciase was excellent; my eggplant parm was between average to just beyond average and the pasta side dish provided as part of my entree was sparse. But, overall, based on the appetizer we ordered (tortellini, prosciuto, and peas -- exceptional), the soups, the salads, nd our entrees the food was definitely abov average."
