Cornelia Street Cafe
Great customer serviceWe had a reservation, party of three, arriving on time, we were told that they had " a situation" . They had to move several parties in the back to the front due to a leak. The host apologized and said that it may be about 10 minutes did we mind waiting. He then walked us to the bar and bought us all a drink, thanking us for our patience. We barely waited 5 minutes before a table was ready. It was so refreshing to have the host recognize the importance of each customer and not treat us like we were lucky to be there. As it turns out, this was our first time at the Cornelia Street Cafe - BUT NOT OUR LAST.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWish I found it sooner!!!An earlier review complained about the service, so we were wary as we placed our order.
We were pleasantly surprised at finding how fabulous the waiter was. Everything was great, the food the service, the menu. Can't wait to return.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMLittle gem in the West VillageI only found this gem of a restaurant recently as I just moved to the area. The West Village is notorious for overpriced restaurants that don't all deliver great quality food. Also, not being from the States, I find the wine in NYC to be extremely expensive in restaurants. This restaurant has a lovely, varied wine list at very reasonable prices. The decor is lovely and people are not sitting too crammed together, again, a luxury in this part of the city. The food is very, very good. The crab cake starter is to die for and the mussels were perfect. Music was turned on half way through dinner that had an odd jarring electronic beat that did not suit the restuarant. Other than that, it was a lovley experience and overall a great experience.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMHeaven in New YorkLoved Cornelia St Cafe in Greenwich Village. The front wall was opened up so that inside was outside and outside was in. Lovely ambience and very personal service. Food was excellent - my steak frites was just what I had been fancying all day, the wine lovely and the coconut creme brulee the best brulee I have ever tasted. My sister was equally impressed. I booked from the UK and you did not disappoint. One of the reasons we chose you was that we wanted to walk back up the Highline at dusk and you are near enough to do this. I hope I get the chance to come back again.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good!Great portions and pretty amazing wine list. They have unoaked Chardonnay which made me particularly happy. The restaurant is a bit tiny so there aren't exactly quiet corners for couples, yet it is still a great date spot or even good for a small group.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat choice and consistentFood was great. Took a while to get service going. Still one of my favorites.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Every time I'm in NYC I make sure to get a meal at Cornelia Street Cafe. The food is delicious and the scene is energetic without being chaotic. It's the perfect restaurant for a date night.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMEssence of West VillageUnpretentious and warmly welcoming by all, variety of cool seating choices - sidewalk cafe, "in" the window, in the bar area with tables made from wooden wine crates...nice. Food superb, wine list not the deepest, but the most creative I have experienced in quite a while, you will definitely find something you'll like, and at a very reasonable price.
Very nice experience.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMde-lishthis place was a great find..food was OUTSTANDING..no one left anything on their plate. The wait staff was knowledgeable and food came out fast!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMCute, authentic West Village bistrowe enjoyed our evening here very much - the place is charming and clearly enjoyed by many locals - the maitres d' knew the couple checking in ahead of us - and behind us! Great feel of what now seems like "old" NY - ie, pre the big boom in real estate and trophy spots. Food was well prepared, if not particularly adventurous - a flatbread first course was yummy - but safe (basil, tomato, garlic, olives, mozzerella) - rack of lamb special perfectly prepared - side of 'kale mashed potatoes' were simple whipped potatoes with sauteed kale on top. Scallops cooked properly. flatiron steak cooked perfectly. interesting wine list. quiet enough in dining room for conversation. close quarters, but part of the appeal.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoyable ambiance, very goodEnjoyable ambiance, very good food (try the crab cakes!) and fun to attend one of their many cultural events --musical or theatrical downstairs.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMA Much-Loved Village GemI visit Cornelia Street Cafe every time I return to my old hometown. It truly bears the essence of Greenwich Village. A much-loved Village gem.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly recommendService was wonderful - our waitress was new on the job but you'd never know it, she was courteous, not pushy, and answered all our menu questions. Food was delicious, and it came out in a time frame that neither rushed us through our meal nor left us waiting hungrily for the next course. The only minor quibble is that the appetizers, while tasty, were incredibly small for the price (e.g. $11 for one tiny pita w/ about a tablespoon of hummus). In contrast, entrees were great and of good portion. A great spot for brunch, lunch, or dinner for a couple or small party.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe came 4 years ago for dinner. We came 4 years ago for dinner. We thought it was the highlight of our trip. We went back for brunch and were terrified that it wouldn't be as good as we remembered. It was just as amazing. A little piece of history tucked away in the Village. The food was fresh and tasty, the portions ample but not crazy huge like so much of America, the waiters friendly and informative. We were warned that the quiche might take a while because it was cooked to order. It was worth waiting for. Lovely! Again!4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMa great old fashioned Westa great old fashioned West Village mainstay that is still serves great food at very modeate prices.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Village as it used to beThis was my first visit in many years. I came with a friend to see the photo exhibit of a mutual friend in the restaurant. It was good to be back..
Cornelia Street still retains the old "Greenwich Village" charm, and
so does the Cafe. Small, intimate, cozy, good food, good service..
Coming back soon!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSmall characger restauranrOn a visiting trip from Spain, we were looking for a place for a family meal with teenage daughters with some character, neighbourhood feel and a menu that did not necessarily end with burger and fries. We found all that and some more - great ambience and music, we enjoyed the food and we had a great family time. Definitely recommend this small gem.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBirthday CelebrationWe have dined here several times over the years and we came this year for a birthday dinner and it didn't disappoint. You get what you pay for here and the service was friendly polite and helpful. Highly recommend.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect. Highly recommendedPerfect. Highly recommended for an authentic old time Village experience3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMVery attentive and caringVery attentive and caring service. Fabulous burger. Great energy. Reliable West Village favorite spot!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMHidden gem - Overall a greatHidden gem - Overall a great spot. Photos on the walls gave it a home neighborhood feel. Wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. Great food selection, and the meals were very good overall. I got the duck which was a little bland, but the sides made up for it - creamy whipped sweet potatoes with goat cheese and raspberry sauce. Tasted my friend's lamb steak which was delicious. We went on a Friday night so it was packed and it took a while for our meals to come out, but they gave us complimentary bruchetta and shots while we waited. Reservation a must. Happy I found it. I would definitely recommend it!3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst time at Cornelia StreetFirst time at Cornelia Street Cafe. 3 in our party. Greeted promptly by the host. Dining room is bright and pleasant. Our waiter was exellent. Gave us just the right amount of time to chat, look at the wine list and then at the menu. He did not hover; knew just when to come back and check on us. Wine was moderately priced and very good selection; menu has great variety of appetizers making it hard to pick just one. Entrees were excellent as well. Taking back 1 star for ambience because we felt as a group that dining room was very warm making it uncomfortable. All agreed we would go back; especially in spring/fall months to enjoy a meal al fresco.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI had a lovely experienceI had a lovely experience there. Wine selection was great; food was good but not great. Wonderful, comfortable old Greenwich Village atmosphere. We were with good friends and it was very relaxing. Service was extremely pleasant and attentive3/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food. ExceptionalDelicious food. Exceptional wine. They made a phone call to confirm reservation. Great location.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMDependable West Village GemThis place has never been a disappointment since we found it about 8 years ago. I attempted to get into Po (next door) without a reservation, not knowing how absurd that was. Cornelia St. Cafe looked inviting and a glance at the menu was enough to lure us in.
The front room seating is a little tight, but you've got The Village outside the window.
There is a larger room in the back which is better if your group is more than 4.
The menu hasn't changed much over the years, but there is variety and they have daily specials of appetizers, mains and wines. The regular wine list is well represented by US and international wine makers as well.
If you are into jazz, the cellar has something going every night.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AMJust moved into the neighborhoodJust moved into the neighborhood three months ago and on a quest for local gems. Cornelia is one that will stay on the list for the future. The "Mussels" could be the best in the city as I eat out four days a week for business at the so called best restaurants. The rest of my party enjoyed their meal as well.2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely RestaurantIts hard to believe but I haven't been to the Cornelia Street Cafe since I lived on Cornelia Street more than 20 years ago. It was a lovely experience. The food was very good. My husband and I both had the vegetarian soup of the day -- which was delicious. I had the butternut squash risotto -- it was excellent. Our server -- who was also the Beverage Manager -- was charming and efficient. And that would be my only negative comment -- perhaps too efficient. The food came out way too fast. Our first course came out seconds after we got our wine, and our entrees were a bit too quick as well. Other than that. A wonderful experience!2/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWent there for Valentine withWent there for Valentine with my wife. The the prix fix menue for the evening was very good value and the ambiance was very friendly and relaxed. We had a really nice evening.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe best overall meal we hadThe best overall meal we had on our visit to NYC.
Amazing food and great staff.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Neighborhood GemCornelia Street Cafe is always delicious, reliable and not too expensive. This neighborhood gem is close to all the music places off of W4 and Bleecker. I love going here before shows for a lovely dinner.2/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad a very nice and pleasantHad a very nice and pleasant dinner there - CSC gives really good value for the price, a very high 4 stars.1/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery convenient to our theater.Very convenient to our theater. Arrived 10 minutes early. Hostess welcoming and we were seated near the window. Tables a bit close together but not too bad. I had the pate, my wife had salad. Very good. The salmon and pork loin were excellent. I substituted potatoes for the rice with the pork with no problem. Portions were nice size, not over the top. The brownie dessert was superb. Request for a 2nd coffee was met with a "No problem" from our waiter and was served in new cups. Excellent service and food. We have it on our list to return!!1/10/2013 12:00:00 AM
