Diner Reviews
  • "We had a great dinner there; the food was fantastic. Our server was not so good. He was fake, smarmy and generally lame. It took a long time for our food to arrive (1hr) and there were only 4 other tables, it was a quiet weeknight. The food was worthy enough to repeat and we will forgive the slow service as everyone has an off day."

  • "Food was outstanding. neighborhood had a good grunge trasition feel to it which made the Cork and Fin a side street oasis in a sea of urbanity. Only hitch was the hostess/waitress who had been there two weeks and was learning the ropes. Food was outstanding. Would go back in a month when the service issue gets straightened out. Did I mention the food was outstanding?"

  • "The restaurant is a cute little building very old and antique looking. The service was amazing and the food was outstanding. All in all a wonderful experience and would go back again for sure."

  • "A dark wet Tuesday night and we were in early. The lovely street level room is an intimate size and layout so it never felt "empty". The charming owner was very attentive and interesting to talk to. Initially we were disappointed that there wasn't a lot of seafood on the menu but on closer reading, there was plenty and all of the food was delicious. This place does seasonal to table very well - some of the best. Keeps the menu short and very up to date. Lovely cocktails and a small but well appointed wine list. Desserts to die for - a light and airy "cheesecake" like you've never seen or tasted before. Pure joy! Olive oil icecream with a salted caramel crunch wafer is a must try - it's truly delicious. We will definitely be back."

  • "Our meals were all really good, and the three course price is unbeatable. Some of us have dietary restrictions that would have limited their options on the menu but that was covered by the daily specials. Our waiter was very friendly, offered good advice on menu items and did not rush us at all. I will likely return to this restaurant."

  • "We really liked the decor, our servers persona and the location of the restaurant. We were disappointed with the poor acoustics, with the restaurant being full you felt like you were at a noisy stadium. The meal service was too slow, portion sizes were a bit too small given our cheque at the end of the night, I was unfortunately still hungry after my entree was done. The food quality was quite good and they did have an interesting menu selection. Overall the place left us wanting more and we didn't think we would make quick moves to return anytime soon."

  • "We had a 3 course meal for a set price. Yhe choices were wonderful and the food outstanding. I have a gluten allergy and that was no problem even the dessert we shared was already gluten free. I will be back."

  • "We got the 3-course meal with wine pairings and it was delicious! Fresh seafood and vegetables. Absolutely loved the whole evening."

  • "When I went to Cork and Fin for Valentine's Day they had a limited menu. The food was really good but the portion sizes were really small. My previous visits were great with a delicious full menu, great service and leaving feeling more full than at Valentine's."

  • "Great set menu for Love day. Octopus Salad was outstanding, as were the oysters and tuna tartare. Little bit cramped because all of the tables for two but hey, it's Valentines Day."

  • "This restaurant was a disappointment. The flavour was fair, not great, but it has definitely a space to grow, however the amount of food is minimalistic, to say the least. The desert a Lemon tart was awful. The drink menu is bad, there is only a few options for beer, nothing on tap. Good point they have oysters that are fresh and clean, they have a deal from 5 to 6:30pm that is quite good. Also they have a promotion were they take 10 dlls off from your menu before 6 pm, and maybe they take half of your food... Too bad it is a beautiful restaurant and the service was good."

  • "I quite enjoyed their service there, even when it was very busy and a lot of people waiting in line, the server would constantly check on us to make sure that our seats are coming up soon."

  • "Overall it was a great food experience . We would have loved to have desert after a great dine out vancouver menu. The only draw back was that apparently there were time limits during a dine out vancouver booking in known to us at the time of booking. We were denied desert and kindly asked to leave as we had come to the end of our "time" In all my years of going to wonderful vancouver finds, this is unexceptable in my books and does not leave a good taste in my mouth. I hope they fix the service, especially to match the excellent food that this small gem has to offer."

  • "Last day of Dineout on Feb.2,2014 and First timers @ Cork & Fin. Three savoury courses $28 ~ Fresh Oysters (upgraded from 3 pcs to a dozen +$14) , Tuna Albacore, and Grilled NY Striploin (+$2). All dishes and other dishes by looking at my friend's dishes were nicely executed and got a cozy corner for seating. The only rather small main entree was the Roasted Lingcod. All in all ~ a nice ending of dineout YVR."

  • "The food and the drinks are not amazing. 1st course oysters & buffalo mozzarella salad. They're ok. 2nd tuna & beef tartare (for extra $4). Tuna is raw tuna with a sauce, tartare is good but extra $4 for it is a bit steep. 3rd course tagliatelle with mushroom & pecorino. My husband said it tasted like mac & cheese. I paid $2 extra for 4 bite-size pieces of striploin with hoisin sauce and crispy potato. The potato needs seasoning and the potato skin tasted a little like fish skin for some reason. The meal is a bit of a disappointment. Size of each course is not big but that's not a huge deal because there're 3 courses (beauty of dine out is the romance of having a 3-course meal). It's the flavour that's lacking. There's also no beer on tap."

  • "I was in Vancouver to run a race, saw it was dine out Vancouver. As I am from out of town, the name intrigued me. The restaurant decor set the mood, nice ambience. The food was very tasty but portions were lacking, some creative writing in the description of the dish, led to expect more. However, enjoyed the evening and would recommend it as one to try"

  • "Considering we had 3 courses I was somewhat disappointed that our group left somewhat hungry. The food itself was great but, more attention could have been given to make the menu more substantial, bread to the table, or an extra side with the main course. This restaurant normally has a 3 course menu and for what we had it really wouldn't make me want to come back and spend $32 and leave hungry. I think restaurants need to remind themselves dine-out is an opportunity to try and gain new guests by putting their best foot forward."

  • "We were a party of 7, food was delicious. The greeter and another lady was very polite except for our server who had unfortunately ruined our experience. I would like to come back for the food, for the ambience, and for the other staffs except for that particular server who blamed us for being late and was not polite to us at all. All our guests enjoyed the food but were not pleased with this particular staff. He definitely needs to be coached and he does not deserve any tips at all."

  • "We went here on a date as part of dine out Vancouver. The portions were a bit small, the food was tasty but unremarkable in terms of flavor and presentation. It was very crowded when we attended on Friday evening and our seat next to the window was very cold. None of these complaints are overly serious but given the price I wouldn't recommend Cork and Fin. There are several restaurants in the area which charge similar prices and have none of the above problems."

  • "I arrived early for our reservation and had a few drinks at the bar beforehand. We were so caught up in our conversation that we ended up missing our reservation by a half hour! No one had come to seat us so they quickly apologized and found a nice table. Then the server greeted us and mentioned he was going to take care of the drinks we had. Not only did he take care of the drinks, but he also brought two glasses of sparkling wine! It was a great touch, he really went above and beyond."

  • "Was really great! Amazing food. Made a rezo and had to wait 15 mins past our time but got a seat at the bar which wasn't bad. Though we were right in front of the lobsters so no table. Anyways the good overweighted the bad by a landslide!!! Will definitely be back."

  • "We came for dine out Vancouver. The table was not quite ready for us so they gave us complimentary champagne while we waited. Nice touch. Food was great overall, wait staff was very attentive and prompt. Would definitely recommend this for a night out."

  • "The raw oysters were delicious. The main course (cod) was disappointing - small and overcooked, the skin wasn't crisp either. The steak was not bad but the sauce that it was paired with could be different - it was similar to the sweet sauce paired with Chinese dishes. Coffee was really good. The lemon pie dessert could be more lemony - I liked that it wasn't too sweet though. There was lipstick stain on my beer glass."

  • "Great food, went for dine out vancouver. A little on the pricey end but it's in gastown so that's expected. Service was slow to start probably because it was busy but got better after a short while. Oysters were a little small but fresh none the less."

  • "We came here for Dine Out and I had a really nice time. The staff was very pleasant and the restaurant was not loud or overcrowded. I had the buffalo mozzeralla salad with soup and the NY sirloin steak and although my friends had some problems with how the steak was cooked we all agreed that the flavours were wonderful! I would definitely go back"

  • "Although the food was good, the portions were quite small. I left feeling rather hungry and had another meal right after. It would've helped if there were more sides/accompaniments with the main entree. I had the ling cod and it came with 2-3 brussel sprout leaves. The other sides, were similarly, just as small in portion, if not smaller. It would've been nice if the server made an attempt to chat with us or at least tell us about the food that was being served. He seemed more concerned about giving us the bill and preparing for the next table unfortunately. Also, if you're interested in the 2 meat options and extra oysters, you might be looking at $40 pp instead of $28."

  • "Went with husband and another couple and we had the set menu. The food was excellent. Really delicious though my soup could have been hotter. One of us didn't want a starter but asked if she could have the dessert as the last of the three items. The desserts were extra. They said that would be fine."

  • "We have ahi tuna, oysters, steak, soup and pasta in our 3 course. The reason we chose this restaurant because the 3 courses are all savory, a bit more unique than regular two plus a dessert. The pasta was a little dry but the rest of the food is excellent. The only thing is that the portion is very small, maybe because it was during Dine Out Vancouver time. We had an early dinner so we ended up feeling hungry again at 10pm. I want to go back and try their regular 3 course menu."

  • "Part of the Dine Out Vancouver festival. $28 3 course was good value. I also had the wine pairing and we both had a dessert too. The Dine Out festival is very popular and it was a busy night. Still, we were allowed overstay our table to have our dessert which was nice of them. Negatives were my wine came a little late for my course but that was because how busy the bar staff were. Server was lovely. It is a nice small restaurant in Gastown, lovely vibe there. Recommended and will certainly go back. Thank you!"

  • "I wanted to go to here because I had heard that they did a dine out menu with 3 savoury options - which sounded perfect for me because I'm not a huge fan of desserts. The food was delicious.....however there was hardly any of it! The entire 3 courses could have fit in the palm of one hand - I finished each course in 5 bites. And it was such a long wait between courses the only thing to do was drink. We left having spent over $100 on a meal for two (including 3 glasses of wine) and went away still hungry!!"

  • "Went for the dine out 2014. Good meal but on the pricey side when you add all the extras and order 3 liquor drinks. My bill came up to 100 (tip included) Got to chat with the owner who are really nice guy, and found out he owns The Merchant as well. Didn't like the waiter since he was all over the place and didn't seem like he could keep track. Being a server is a hard business and it was busy too."

  • "First time here. Tried their dine-out menu. The beet salad was refreshingly enjoyable. The steak tartar and ling cod was mediocre. Word for the guys, the portions are quite small. My buddy had to go get a burger after even after have the steak as him main. Mocktails are a must to try."

  • "The food was less than their best, and the server ignored us. He ended up saying he would "Normally offer dessert, but our timeslot was up", and dropped off the bill. Go to Joe Fortes for seafood. You will be infinitely happier. I won't be back here again."

  • "The food was well made, and ordering was a breeze. The service was a little slow but understandable considering it was the first night of Dine Out Vancouver. Ambiance was good, but overall the menu was limiting in the choices it had available - not to say that it is a problem, but it does limit any incentive to come back for multiple visits. I had the Hoison BBQ Striploin, and the sauce alone was worth trying it out. A delicious fusion take on an obvious asian inspiration, with (really) well cooked & sauced potatoes and grilled green onion stalks. I recommend checking out Cork & Fin at least once in your dining adventures in Gastown."

  • "Food was delicious, service was pretty standard for Gastown (sporadic and you have trouble finding your server when you need them). Server seemed to have good knowledge of the wine etc but I think some of our courses were mismatched with the wine pairings."

  • "Well I'm not the type to go dine out very often, so keep that in mind while reading this. Our experience here was absolutely exceptional. Their menus are rustic, with the use of file folders and line paper, their decor includes a red brick wall, hard wood flooring, tight spaces, and an upstairs to boot. Dim lighted and can possibly sit 40 people in one go. Not a big restaurant like Coast, but also not a small restaurant like Salade de Fruits. Food was exceptional as well. We had 3 orders of oysters (a bit sandy), we had the beef tare tare, soup and tuna. Small portions, almost even smaller than what you see on Iron Chef.. but it was delicious. Our mains were Buttersquash pasta, NY Strip loin and a Ling Cod. Everything was good."
