A word from Core de Roma - West Chester
Core de Roma Trattoria is a casual, intimate, family owned Trattoria, offering authentic Roman cuisine while upholding the best of Roman tradition. Some examples of our mouth watering Roman delicacies include our signature Artichokes alla Core de Roma, Saltimbocca, and Bucatini alla Matriciana. Contrary to what some people say, we spelled our name as "Core de Roma" intentionally, meaning "The Heart of Rome" in our family's dialect. Our ultimate goal is to make all of our customers feel like family through our cozy atmosphere, friendly service, and home-made dishes. At Core de Roma you can expect the true heart of Rome in the heart of Philly. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My wife and I went on 4/14. I want to preface by saying that my wife and I are not the type to nitpick about restaurants and service as we have both worked in the field for years. That being said the service was very bad. We waited almost ten minutes to get greeted after we sat down. The restaurant was not busy either. Also had to wait about 40-45 minutes for our food. After our food came our waitress didn't come back to check on us for another 40mins, so no refills, also they forgot to bring my salad. Not going back. Food was just ok."

  • "This was a excellent meal in a place so loud that my wife and I couldn't even speak without actually yelling @ each other. Such a shame for such magnificent food!!!! I've been there many times before but never on a weekend. And I will never go on a weekend again. I would only recommend it because of the food....."

  • "Third time here and very good again. Great food and service is very good. The atmosphere is energetic - not a quiet romantic spot. One of the best italian joints in the burbs - we will be back!"

  • "Never had anything but excellent food here but more service help is needed. Basically 1 overstretched waitress handled the whole restaurant. Waited way too long to order, to have table cleared and to be asked about dessert. And this is early on a weeknight."

  • "The best Italian food around. The artichoke appetizer and risotto balls are wonderful!"

  • "Everything was fabulous, except the tables next to the very drafty windows. I actually became chilled, and put my coat on. It was during the time of that very, very cold weather."

  • "Why had I not heard or read about the incredible quality of "Core de Roma"? Better yet....Why am I writing this review and letting this secret out??? We dined on Friday night, arriving early 6:15 PM. A rather quiet start but the place was full by the time my wife and I left. We were greeted by the owner "Gigi" at the door. He returned to assure that we were pleased with our food and overall experience. We certainly were! The food was excellent. I had the lasagna...it was "melt in your mouth" wonderful...exactly as our server had promised. My wife had a spicy rigatoni dish..also wonderful. Add to this...fair prices, a BYOB and a very nice, unpretentious atmosphere. We'll definitely return!"

  • "The artichokes and the meatball are two must have! Small place, always packed and excellent food!!!"

  • "Wonderful BYOB featuring very good homemade Italian food and attentive service just down the road from the West Chester restaurant scene. Every dish we ordered was excellent and every item on the menu sounded worth a try. I don't think you could go wrong with any meal. Prices are reasonable. The dining room is noisy but manageable. We will definitely return!"

  • "lots of choices on the menu, food was a little slow coming out, waitstaff and manager very nice"

  • "This was our first trip to this restaurant. There are so many good Italian restaurants in the Philadelphia suburbs that it is hard to find one that stands out as different. Core de Roma manages to do that. They have the typical dishes that you find in most Italian restaurants but the menu also has several offerings that we never saw before. These are the dishes that we really enjoyed. The Carciofi alla Core de Roma, the restaurant's signature artichoke dish, was fabulous. My husband's oxtail stew was also memorable. My veal with crabmeat, spinach, and mozzarella was also very good but not as interesting as the stew. The service was excellent. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit."

  • "I felt that they did not have enough servers for a very busy Sunday evening. Seemed to only have two servers and a bus person. Service was a little slow."

  • "Core de Roma is an excellent restaraunt. The food is delicious and it is byo which is great. It is a little loud but absolutely worth it."

  • "My husband and I were so happy with our meal. We can be fussy but all I can say was the food was excellent and the service was great. A little noisy from a large group next us but we could still hold a conversation."

  • "We were seated immediately with our Saturday evening reservations, Service was very prompt. Food was excellent as we expected, and our dining companions were impressed. The noise level was a little High but acceptable. We had a great experience."

  • "This is a great family owned Italian gem in Chester County. Ther service is awesome and the food very good. Very energetic crowd - its not quiet!"

  • "We all enjoyed the specials of the evening. My bronzino, cooked whole & fileted at table-side, was delicious. The service was very friendly and efficient & they were very good about seasoning the pasta sauce more mildly for one member of our party. The restaurant does get very noisy as it fills in, but the food brings us back regardless."

  • "Have been to this resturant several times and it has been excellent each time. Great meal, the specials are always delicious and Annie, one of the waitress is real nice! Will be back again!"

  • "Our family recently dined at Core de Roma-WC and had a lovely meal. The Roman artichokes are an absolute must. They are delicious and not something you find at every Italian restaurant. My son said the meatballs are better than mine. That was hard to take. My husband got the lasagne and said it was delicious, creamy and made with fresh pasta. One son got the Gnocci and the other Chicken Parm & loved it. I got the fettuccini Bolognese and was very disappointed. Other reviewers raved about the fresh pastas, so I was anticipating a light, silky pasta. What I got was heavy doughy and undercooked tasting. I should have sent it back. Based on everything else we ordered, I think this was a misstep, but next time I'll try something else."

  • "My husband and I found this restaurant a charm. Great food, and good service. The only thing negative about this joint is that it gets loud and at times we found it hard to hear each other at our table. But overall we will def. go back!"

  • "The service and food at Core de Roma goes above and beyond expectations. Each course we had was delicious. I will certainly return. The only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the dining room was VERY loud. If they sacrificed just a couple tables (they were seriously packed in), I feel it would greatly reduce the volume and make for a much more enjoyable dining experience - where you don't have to shout at the person across from you just to make conversation! Still definitely worth it, though, despite the volume."

  • "I dined at the restaurant with my husband and two teenage children. Everyone loved their meals. I had scallops with risotto and it was delicious. The food and service was very good. We especially liked the artichoke appetizer. The only negative comment I have is the noise level. It is quite loud, hard to hear people at our own table in normal speaking voices."

  • "Want to have Italian the way it is prepared in South Philly but don't want the hassle of getting into & out of the city? THIS IS YOUR PLACE. The owners have a superb South Philly Italian restaurant that they have duplicated in West Chester. The pasta is of course home made & the dishes are traditional, flavorful Italian favorites. The specials (I had the octopus & my son the artisanal beets) were outstanding. Since it is BYOB, be sure to bring a full bodied white or excellent red to stand up to the hearty Italian food. You will be thrilled with this local gem so be sure to make reservations with OpenTable. The place does fill up on weekends!"

  • "I'm almost repetitious but we go to Core de Roma frequently and are asked to submit a review. As always top notch in all respects and free parking which is a major consideration in the West Chester area."

  • "We were celebrating a 40th Anniversary and when dinner was served the waitress brought the wrong meal to one person and we had to ask three time for the sides for two other people. Then the waitress actually tried to tell my husband that he ordered something else and that is why our friend did not receive her meal. By the time 7 of us were finished our dinner our friend received her dinner. When I went to speak to the manager/owner to tell him what happened and how disappointed we were with the service - he actually yelled at me and said "what do you want me to do - take the meal off your bill?" and I said that would be nice and then he said "I will take it off and don't you ever come back to my restaurant again!". He was so rude......."

  • "First time diner @this restaurant. Great food and service..Reasonable prices. Noise level high. Seated at a terrible table right by the entrance in bar area. Extremely tight. Table was much to small for 5 people. No room for food and drinks .Reservations needed."

  • "The food and service is excellent and you can't beat the price. BYO helps too. But very noisy. Also try the original location on South Street in Philly. Same great menu!"

  • "The restaurant has accomplished the feel of sitting in your family dining room right down to the decorative china cabinet. The food was spectacular. The owner was on top of things, right down to helping bus the table he was going to seat us at. This is my new favorite, and I will be selling it to those I speak to."

  • "I've seen mixed reviews for Core de Roma of West Chester. Yes, it is in a small shopping strip in town, which means there isn't any "scenic view" to speak of. The inside is nicely decorated. We went as a delayed Valentine's Day dinner. Service was very good; the only thing that the server could have done better would be to have offered a wine bucket for our bottle of wine. Other than that, the server (Morgan) took care of everything quitt well and even went beyond; I had wanted the shrimp scampi, but didn't see it on the menu, although I had seen it on the online menu. She asked if the chef could make it and they could, so that was good. The potato soup was a creamy style, not the semi-chunky I've had elsewhere. It was still good."
