Diner Reviews
  • "Took my wife for her birthday. They seated us in a cozy spot, nice ambience. Waiter very friendly, perfect amount of attentiveness. Had the 5 course tasting menu. Excellent portions, flavors very good. Only complaint is the lamb was a bit tough to cut and not flavorful. Deserts above average but thought it odd they served different desert to each of us rather than tastings. Wine list extensive in all price ranges."

  • "The maitre d' who greeted us at the door was had a snotty and condescending attitude, but our waiter was a delight. The food was excellent. "

  • "My wife and I were seated immediately in a cozy nook with a view of the seating area. Staff helped, did not rush. We ordered the 5-course surprise menu. The surprise was a sixth course. All were outstanding. The wine pairings were creative, including varietals we had not had (and we've had many), and all were delicious. A completely positive experience making for a wonderful evening."

  • "It's very difficult to find great service and great food at one location. Corduroy was outstanding in every aspect. Multiple staff members came over to check up on how we were doing, how our food was, and recommended dishes when we were torn among several of the great options. Friendly atmosphere among the staff members are always a key to great success. Definitely a memorable dinner for a special night."

  • "A work dinner with a couple colleagues here. I used to live in DC and Shaw was NO place to be. Now, it's starting to hop and this place is one of the top restaurants in the District. Go and enjoy yourselves. Just great."

  • "Excellent food and service. Eclectic menu, well prepared, and wonderful selection. It should be on everyone's list of restaurants to try."

  • "Wonderful meal of the (surprise) 5-course tasting menu which included red snapper soup, mushroom tart, sea bass, pork cheeks and lamb. They were all excellent, although the lamb was so mild I'm not sure I would have known it was lamb blindfolded. They provided excellent wine pairings, all dry European choices. Will definitely be back on our next trip to DC."

  • "Couldn't have had a nicer anniversary dinner at Corduroy. The food and service were both lovely, and we appreciated the extra touches to make our night special."

  • "We selected the Chef's Surprise 5 course menu, but added the Red Snapper Bisque (outstanding). We struggled with the wine list to find a white & red to match, but the staff guided us to an excellent white and a satisfying red. Each course was a delight, perfect size, well presented, and delicious. The courses combined arguably common elements, but all the ingredients tasted of the highest quality and were prepared to perfection - which rare these days, as chefs try to impress with exotic or daring combinations. The pacing of the dishes was perfect; never rushed and never left wondering when the next dish would arrive. The decor is simple and elegant, and the noise level very low. The staff was excellent from the moment we walked in."

  • "My sisters and spouses went to corduroy as our big night out. Our father was in the restaurant business so we are all harsh critics. We were impressed with the pace of the meal, the excellent service and best of all the food. Unusual but not weird. Perfect portions. Flavor flavor flavor."

  • "Corduroy has a great menu with something for everyone. To start we shared the Tuna Tartar with Crispy Shallots and Mountain Potato. The kitchen was nice enough to split this between two people and it was the perfect portion to start the meal. My favorite item on the menu is the Broken Arrow Ranch Antelope with Chestnut Puree -- yes, I know "antelope???" -- it tastes a lot like a steak, but with the texture of a pork chop. We have gone back several times and someone from our group always orders it and it's always a hit. All of the desserts are amazing, but the Baked Chocolate Sabayon is by far my favorite. It is basically their soufflé and a great way to end a meal! Enjoy!"

  • "Sometimes excellent food isn't enough for a restaurant to succeed, because the service stinks, or the staff is snooty, or the ambiance is too trendy, or it's too loud... Thanks to the affable staff, especially our waiter (Mark?), and a simple, yet sophisticated ambiance, the excellent food is able to shine."

  • "I selected Corduroy for my wife's birthday dinner because it was highly rated, offered a tasting menu (which we like to take), and everything on the regular menu looked like something I would select. We were seated in an intimate two-person alcove. Mark, our waiter, described the food as "American fare with French sauces and an Asian flair". Although not on the menu, there was a wine pairing for the 5-course tasting menu. Every dish was de-lish! The soup, the cremini blintz, a lobster carpaccio (melt-in-your-mouth), the pork cheek, the Wagyu beef and the desserts were excellent - hard to pick a favorite. Each paired wine went very well. We left impressed, satisfied and with good memories of the entire experience."

  • "As a DC native, I consider myself pretty well-versed in the local food scene. My fiance and I had yet to try Corduroy, so I took him here for his birthday. From start to finish, our dining experience was absolute perfection. The setting was effortlessly chic, the service attentive without being overbearing, and the fare exceptional. This restaurant has quickly moved into our top five favorites; I'm already looking for reasons to come back!"

  • "I was struck by several things during my first visit to Corduroy. First was the neighborhood, which has changed dramatically in the last few years, so if you have put off going because of the location that is no longer an excuse. The space is terrific! There are nooks and crannies all over the place so you not sitting on top of your neighbors. The menu is small but each dish is well thought out executed flawlessly and highlights seasonal ingredients that the chef and staff are passionate about. The wine list has a lot of options and the pricing is fair. The staff was terrific, engaging without being smothering and they know the menu and wine list very well. Corduroy is a press darling and I can say it lives up to the hype"

  • "This is the fourth time I have frequented Corduroy. Its food and wine selections are second to none. The ambiance is quiet and reserved. Each time I am in Washington, D. C., I try to have dinner at Corduroy to make my visit a truly memorable one."

  • "Loved the discrete constant attention, food was fantastic from bread to unique appetizer to melt-in-your-mouth entree to presentation of dessert to coffee. All aspects with brilliant flavor-the ambiance was intimate. Highly recommended!"

  • "We had out of town guest that we want to take to nice dinner and be able to talk. Corduroy was our choice and we couldn't have been more happy. Everything from the service, to the food, to the atmosphere, all was perfect. Our out of town guest were VERY impressed. Thanks for making it a wonderful evening."

  • "I had heard Corduroy was a bit uneven and found that to be true. The appetizers sounded special but weren't all that creative, the presentatons lacked and the flaovrs did not pop. We tried the Lobster Carpaccio (lacked flavor, covered with sauce), Tuna Tartar (good), Scallop Tartar (subtle but not impressive) and the Snapper Bisque (best item of the night). The wine selection was good, and kept at 55 degrees, and our Pinot Noir was served at that temp, which didn't suit us. For Dinner, 4 of us had Scallops with Grits and 2 of us had Sea Bass. Both had good flavor but lacked elements I would expect. BTW, never saw the Chef in the kitchen (Friday Night) just the cadre of little ladies....which could explain the lack of attention to detail."

  • "Great selection of drinks, fine flourless chocolate cake, very good coffee with dessert. Great atmosphere for a special occasion. You can get a better meal elsewhere for half the price, so you're paying for the white tablecloth and a crumb sweep."

  • "4 of us ate here on a Sat.@ 6:15. Seated promptly & the floor manager took our drink order (3 wines 1 cocktail) right away. The wine came immediately. The waiter never introduced himself but started by suggesting dinner wines, before we even looked at the menu. He came by 3 times to take our order & the cocktail still had not arrived. We finally mentioned the oversight & he was apologetic but it still took 10 minutes to get the cocktail. We placed our order and the 1st course arrived but the waiter never came by. I finally had to signal him across the room for a pepper mill. When we requested a 2nd bottle of wine he said "oh I forgot to tell you, that was the last one" It was like that all night. The food however was fantastic."

  • "While in DC sometimes you get lost in the crowded loud hot spots with sometime yt? Estimable service. Every detail on the food, set up and service was focused and on point. Whether it is a romantic dinner or a business meeting you will be well taken care of."

  • "We came here looking to celebrate at a special restaurant and this place fit the bill. Our waiter, Mark, was so wonderful and clearly passionate about the food and the restaurant. The pace of the meal was perfect and the food was absolutely delicious. Didn't make it to the dessert round but was a little disappointed that nothing really jumped off the menu to sway me to indulge. I had called ahead to request glasses of champagne be brought to our table upon arrival and they not only happily granted my request but brought glasses of a really top-notch "house" sparkling wine. If you can, request a booth - they're on the edges of the restaurant and a bit quieter. Overall. a wonderful experience and I highly recommend. We'll be going back!"

  • "We've dined here many times but this time hosted very special guests - two young but sophisticated dining friends. Our dinner was perfect, from the quiet table that allowed good conversation to the deeply knowledgeable server - and of course, delicious, creative flavors. And a lovely wine list with a range of very good bottles and prices. Merci Merci! We will return again and again."

  • "had the antelope as the main course, which was done to perfection. It was accompanied by chestnuts, the consistency of mashed potatoes, which were wonderful. Although advertised as American, there were eastern influences, as well. Wait staff was knowledgable about wines and were very attentive. One of the best restaurants I've ever had the opportunity to enjoy."
