CorduroyPerfectionCorduroy is the perfect restaurant for a special occasion. The food is wonderful, as is the ambiance. The servers are highly informed and helpful with suggestions (such as the right ) when asked.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMTasting Menu at CorduroyThree of us went to Corduroy for the tasting menu on a quiet Monday night. The 5 course tasting menu is a great deal at $65, especially since it is actually 6 courses. The wine pairings, at $55 per person, sound steep, but the wines are WELL worth it. The menu began with a cool soup, then tuna tartar with greens, grilled salmon, roasted capon, and antelope two ways with a chestnut mash. After that...dessert. Instead of bringing three of the same desserts, the chef sent out three different deserts for us to share. His take on pistachio bread pudding was amazing. There was something slightly asian about the soup, but a French twist with the use of rich sauces and careful balances of protiens and veg. Amazing food, and a well constructed menu.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMServiceWe ordered a fairly expensive bottle of Chassagne Montrachet that was not bad but not what it should have been. We had the sommelier taste it and he agreed that it was not bad...just not right. He replaced the bottle with another wine and the situation was handled in a professional and unexpected satisfactory manner- a rarity these days!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant cares aboutThis restaurant cares about everything! The whole experience was perfect.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation CelebrationI came here to celebrate the end of my graduate program with my boyfriend. Everything was perfect about the dinner. Our waiter was amazing and the food was delicious. We had the 5 course tasting menu and every dish was surprising and exttemely good. The overall experience was really perfect.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGem near the Convention CenterThe food and service were excellent. Extensive wine list . Corkage fee seemed extravagant - one bottle per table for $45.5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding near the convention ctrCorduroy is very near the DC convention center (easy walk) and has a rather eclectic menu. Each item was excellent and the server made great recommendations. He also asked what types of beer, wine and liquor we liked so that he could "give us something similar" if needed.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent experienceThis was a great dining experience. The food was superb (try the Red Snapper Bisque!!!). Our server was very knowledgeable of everything we ate and his suggestions were right on the spot. It was a plus that he was a foody! The ambiance was good, although the mini-booths by the walls are not very comfortable -watch out if you're claustrophobic-. Other than that, my wife and I both enjoyed our visit to Corduroy. We will definitely be back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect for intimate conversationTasting menu was creative, interesting, and absolutely delicious while being quite reasonable. The wine list was extensive and also not overpriced. We had a great time and would highly recommend it!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to Corduroy multipleI've been to Corduroy multiple times, and it never fails to please me. only once have i gone there, about three years ago, when the restaurant was not in top form (it was a large party, and i think it overwhelmed them). food is consistently well done (scallops, steak, guinea hen, antelope, fish, braised ribs). appetizers are varied and quite excellent, especially some of the specials. The wine list is extensive, though but could use a few more moderately priced wines and some culling. The wine list is basically overpriced, and I'm not sure why. Service is very attentive and efficient, though this last time, it took a bit long to bring the first course. But, in general, Corduroy is a highly dependable and consistently excellent eatery4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb tasting menu. GreatSuperb tasting menu. Great service. Creative cuisine.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOur best meal in a week ofOur best meal in a week of eating while visiting Washington. Very elegant, sophisticated, but not stuffy and there were several tables with very well-behaved children. The food was imaginative and different than the usual choices in other places. The staff was exceptional and really knew the food and wine. I got talked into eating antelope (never thought I was that adventurous) and it was fabulous. Can't wait to go back.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food. The round eyeAmazing food. The round eye tuna is the best meal I have had at any restaurant ever.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good, not greatLimited menu and somewhat indifferent service prevents the 5 stars.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always look forward toWe always look forward to our evening at Corduroy on our annual trip to DC. Table 24 is a quiet, intimate spot in the corner. The food never dissapoints and the service is excellent; attentive and not intrusive.
The appetizer special of scallops was served with an oyster on the half shell. The champagne sauce complimented the sweet and fresh scallops. Crispy Striped Bass with Braised Bok Choy and Daikon was great. The skin on the bass was perfectly crisp without drying out the fish. Excellent sauce here, too. Delicious meal.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEnjoy the pleasures of fine diningFine,Fine food. Tom Power must be the finest Chef around. The Chef Sampler was had by 4 in our party and got only rave comments. Don't hesitate, just make reservations4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWe always like this place. We always like this place. Food is great. Our waiter, Mark, makes the evening even better. We recommend the chef choice and the wine tasting. The ;tuna tartare is always outstanding and we have never been disappointed with any of our courses.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding!A very good find in DC. I almost don't want to tell people about it because it might be harder to get a reservation next time. Food is beautifully prepared and flavors are so clean and defined. The word precise comes to mind but really creative. Service is A+. Overall an outstanding restaurant. Will definitely go back next time I'm in DC.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellently prepared food,Excellently prepared food, imaginatively created and presented, with great attention to quality of ingredients. Very attentive service. They go to great lengths to make you happy. The restaurant would have been the quietest we have been to in Washington, but there was a party of 10 that were overly vocal. The decor was simple, but elegant. This was an intimate restaurant, and rather expensive, but it was the best we've had in a long time.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWe tried the chefs tastingWe tried the chefs tasting menu. We recommend it highly.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMTry CorduroyCorduroy made the top 100 on the Washingtonian's best restaurant list for 2013 and deserved it! My husband and I had one of our best dinners in a long time. Try the seared tuna - fantastic.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first night in WashingtonOur first night in Washington DC, we dined here and it was a great way to start our vacation! We did the 5 course-tasting menu and considering the quality and the quantity of the food we got, the price was well worth it ($65)!. Interesting combinations of flavors many using Asian ingredients and great quality food. I loved the fact that the waiter would tell us where the food came from. A lot of local foods were used in each of the dishes. This will definitely be a restaurant to come back when we return to DC.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMvery good food and service.very good food and service. would definitely go back next time we're in DC.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNice alternative to the soullessNice alternative to the soulless downtown restaurants!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCould not ask for a betterCould not ask for a better dining experience. Gracious, knowledgable staff, inventive wonderful cuisine, excellent wine list with great values. The lobster carpaccio is fabulous as are the seared scallops and grits. Wagyu steak so delicious and all served by extremely professional yet friendly waitstaff. Highly recommend.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dining in DCGreat restaurant in DC with special attention made to quality of food & service. The tasting menu is a spectacular value at $65 per person. You need to order it for the entire table. Even if some diners aren't "adventurous," the menu isn't too extravagant. We had burdock root puree, tuna tartar, scallops, guinea hen, wagyu steak, and dessert. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable. Overall, a great dining experience.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMWe'll be back!Best meal we've had in Washington in all our visits!3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful ExperienceWe had an amazing dinner experience here. All the food we had was well prepared and very flavorful. We had the chowder, red snapper bisque, arugula salad that had these fantastic watermelon radishes, the rockfish and antelope entrees. Our server, Mark, who also doubles as the sommelier, was incredibly gracious and perfect in every way. It was a quiet, rainy Monday night, so I can't speak to what noise is like when the place is full. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an elegant experience. It's a true treat.3/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time atThis was my first time at Corduroy and I must say that the food was great. We had the chief's surprise with wine pairing that our waiter recommended and it was great. Our waiter was wonderful as well. My wife and I will come back to Corduroy.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMBravo!Five of us had the pre-fixe. Seevice was outstanding. Great wait staff (two exceptional gentlemen guided us through the meal). All of the food was "spot on". The price for a big city gourmet meal including cocktails and an $80 bottle of wine was $125 pp including tax and tip. You'd pay almost twice that much at other top restaurants. All of the food was great--the attention to the little details were spot on. The fish and shellfish dishes rate a tad higher than the meat/fowl but thats like comparing the acting of Meryl Strep to Katherine Hepburn--both great!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall very good... but justOverall very good... but just couldn't give it 5 stars.
Tough location, must have thought the area would pick up with the convention center and did not. Hope they at least have cheap rent.
VERY accommodating for food allergies. Much appreciated! But this may have impacted my minor disappointment with the tasting menu. Or maybe it was because we didn't order a bottle of wine... but I was surprised that the Tasting Menu didn't serve Corduroy's top most raved about items (Lobster Carpaccio or Antelope) which were on the menu that night.
We did get the Tuna Tartar which was delicious! And the Pork Belly, which tasted more like how I dream my Pot Roast should taste (but nothing like pork belly I've known).
Service is Outstanding.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMthank you for a deliciousthank you for a delicious tasting menu experience! we felt special and spoiled from start to end. from valet to coat check to service, everyone was lovely and welcoming. the food was truly special. loved it and will be back.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is our second time atThis is our second time at Corduroy. We were even happier here the second time than the first. So good to be with a small group and be able to hear each other...3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMInventive and elegantChef Tom Powers has developed an inventive and elegant style with a pronounced Asian influence. His dishes are fresh, well-balanced, and intensely flavorful. This is fine dining at its finest.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMAs always the food, and serviceAs always the food, and service was wonderful and we had a great time dinning at Cordory. We always look forward to going back again it is a must do restaurant for us in DC.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a fine restaurantThis is a fine restaurant of the Establishment variety that DC is known for. Middle aged men waiting on tables of business people, mostly men. Our table was significant for supplying 3 of the 4 non-white patrons the eve we dined at the restaurant. The one woman on the restaurant floor was behind the bar. As someone who has spent some years on the staff of a 4 star restaurant in California, I find this choice odd but indicative of a greater DC trend towards performing the high-end via old boy sign and signifier. All that said, we had an impressive meal. Our waiter (after letting us know this was not going to be like eating at Morton's-- why did he feel the need to clarify that for us?) was knowledgeable and the tasting menu superb.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was great, as was theFood was great, as was the waiter, but the kitchen was running 35 minute ticket times. I dont like to dine more than 2 hours personally.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMFour of us had the tastingFour of us had the tasting menu and it was delicious. Very full and varies courses that also worked well together. Excellent dessert as well3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe did the tasting menu which,We did the tasting menu which, while pricey, is very much worth it. Highly recommend it!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMQuality ingredients well prepared,Quality ingredients well prepared, but the menu, though clever, seemed kind of tired.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMProbably my 10th time there,Probably my 10th time there, and consistently excellent. The wine list has exceptionally good values.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first trip toThis was our first trip to Corduroy and it did not disappoint. It was located in a surprising place, but once you get past the area (lots of boarded up buildings along the side of the DC Convention Center) the restaurant itself is lovely and very welcoming. The food was wonderful, even late at night, the food sparkled. The service was very attentive, but not overly so. The atmosphere is quiet and subdue, and unfortunately we were seated next to a group of women celebrating a birthday who were not aware of how loud they were, and they also did not care. The restaurant did nothing to protect us from them or to ask them to quiet down a bit. I think that this restaurant is not a good place for groups.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAn unlikely spot for suchAn unlikely spot for such a great restaurant, you might even have trouble finding its location. But certainly a gem of DC. Great food, excellent service, this is sure to become a staple for the city.3/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGive your review a title (optional)Quite good but not as outstanding as in previous visits. The sushi rice, though, is unbelievable. Excellent wine list and great drinks at reasonable prices. Beautiful room.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique Menu and Great FoodThere are a lot of things on the menu that most people have probably never tried, and it all tastes great. I recommend going for the Chef's Surprise. You'll get to try a bunch of really great food. If you just want to order off the menu, the antelope is out of this world, and the tuna tartar is really tasty, too (my wife does not really like tuna, and even she loved it).
The ambiance is really nice; in fact, I proposed to my wife there I liked it so much. Our server caught on and brought us complementary glasses of champagne to celebrate.
If you're looking for some fine dining without totally breaking the budget and a staff that treats you like you're rich even if it's just your once a month splurge, this is a great place to go.6/29/2012 12:00:00 AMBirthday dateOur waiter was great. Our cocktails were fabulous. The chef was exquisite, and his wine pairings delightful. A great spot to take a lovely woman for her birthday.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
