Diner Reviews
  • "Excellent food. A little pricey and noisy to my liking."

  • "Great French cuisine without having to travel! Great ambience."

  • "The service was laid back. It's not quantity it's quality. Dishes lacked flavour. The lamb had no taste to it. Best part of meals was the fried brussels sprouts. My girlfriend had the lamb and I had the pork belly. We ordered the duck sausage but it did not show up. The waiter kept trying to fill our glasses with water even though we told him numerous times that we do not drink Toronto tap water. This place is more like a bar with decent food...not the French restaurant we were expecting."

  • "Have eaten here several times now for both brunch and dinner. Food has been consistently good and the service is always friendly without being intrusive. Will definitely be dining at Coquine again soon."

  • "Loved the tomato pesto on the bass and it was cooked perfectly. We said we were splitting a salad and they plated it individually which was a nice touch."

  • "Coquine has been thiving on Yonge St for many years with good reason - great food and friendly service. We continue to explore different dishes with each visit. Seafood is fresh and well prepared. Beef, lamb and duck all presented with full flavours and great accompaniments."

  • "Coquine was very good, excellent bistro food and attentive but not overbearing service. One member of our party has celiac disease and the waiter was very helpful in suggesting gluten-free options and the kitchen was careful in preparation. A very pleasant dining experience."

  • "The venue is full come 7pm on a Frida but luckily we had an early reservation. Good service. Exceptional food. Duck Confit was superb. Will return."

  • "A true go to restaurant for us after celebrating a significant birthday of my wife's a couple of years ago, Coquine once again did not dissappoint. From the perfectly mixed pre dinner gin martini and bourbon sour at the bar to the comfortable and attentive service of our server, we were left smiling from ear to ear. The food was delecious and abundant (almost too much!) and the vibe of the evening made for a perfect respite for my wife and my busy busy lives. Knowing it's the return guests that keep a restaurant thriving seems to seperate this uptown restaurant from its peers. Hip without pretension, a mixed crowd making us feel not too young or too old, we can't wait to come back. Cheers for doing it so right."

  • "There's such a lively ambience in this wood panelled, wonderfully decorated place, it feels great just to be there. The steak frites is absolutely fantastic, I have to say I've had it both times I was there. My companions have had the salmon (best she's ever had) and pork chops (also really good). Escargot and bruschetta also very tasty and a nice selection of lovely wines. I would have given 5 starts for the food but the ceasar salad needs improvement. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Great unpretenious local spot with fabulous food and great friendly staff! Very helpful with wine pairings to the food as well. Duck two ways was great."

  • "I ordered a decaf cappuccino after my meal, and after I drank off the foam, I found I had less than 1/2 a cup of coffee in the small cup. I did mention this to our server, and while he gave me a bit of a hard time about it (he claimed this is how they prepared their coffee), he did make some more for me for no additional charge. It also took a while to get our bill at the end."

  • "I went there with a friend for dinner. Nice restaurant. I ordered the ravioli. It was good and I really liked it but I thought the size of the portion was a little small for dinner as I still felt a little hungry after I was done. But other than that, both my friend and I liked our dishes and the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice with groups, friends and dates. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant."

  • "The host genuinely welcomes me (as he multitasks on a busy Friday eve) and seats me at a very cozy table (as requested in the reservation). Mood - 'boisterous'. Decor - casual/rustic decor, mainly of dark, polished wood. Menu - classic bistro fare. Food - superb (full flavors and pleasing presentation)! Octopus terrine - perfect texture. Cassoulet - deep, rich & smokey. Short but tailored selection of wines by the glass. Service was attentive (pleasant, engaging, knew the menu (food & drinks), but slightly distracted (the venue was full). Negligible disappointment with no separate bills (as requested in reservation) and by 7pm - the noise-level becomes… uncomfortably loud (try and go early). Already made my reservation to return."

  • "We have been to Coquine a couple of times now and the Food is always Rich and Flavourful and beautifully presented (we enjoyed the Award Winning Poutine, Saumon Grilléé and the Crevettes et Coquilles) The ambience is the perfect blend of laid back and chic and the attention to your comfort and experience is the best in Toronto. We always feel at home at Coquine for dinner or even just a drink. I would highly recommend Coquine for French cuisine and fun in a non-pretentious atmosphere."

  • "Went on a weekday for lunch, was notified on the spot that they were not serving the lunch menu. Forced to order from the brunch menu. Had I wanted brunch, I would have gone on a Sunday. I went on a weekday because I wanted the lunch menu. Food was decent, just not what I had wanted. The female server looked like she absolutely hated to be working there. RUDE, COLD, ABRUPT. Racial discrimination as I am an Asian? Maybe. As I did see her smiling and being less anti-social to Caucasian customers. NOT the way to be a server at a restaurant if you have this attitude... especially if you also happen to be standing at the entrance as a greeter as well. NOT a restaurant I would recommend to fellow diners, unless attitude is your thing."

  • "Even on a quiet night, Coquine exudes a certain aura that makes you feel you're in a special place. There's an energy that heightens the experience. Food leans to the simple side but is delicious and the service is perfectly paced and you don't feel as though certain things are pushed like in some places. We always leave satisfied after a good meal that doesn't break the bank..."

  • "Been here countless times, but this was the 1st time via OpenTable. Service was very friendly and professional. Coquine salad is delicious (we have it every time, ahem, but other appetizers look equally appealing). Duck leg + confit very well cooked and great tasting. From prior visits: the gnocchi are good for the soul, but less so for the waistline. The fish en papillote is a healthier option, as is the espresso rubbed steak. Great wine!"
