  • "Took my mother here for her birthday and she said it was one of (if not the best) meal she'd ever had. We started with a selection of bit-sized skewers (the chorizo was my favorite, all were good) followed by the berry gazpacho (the best soup in the world), the kale salad with grilled strawberries (incredible), the gulf prawns (never had anything like these before - more like lobster than shrimp), the calamari (best ever), and the patatas bravas (I wanted to dip everything in that sauce!). I highly recommend this place, not only is the food outstanding, the service was impeccable, and they did an amazing job with the interior."

  • "We generally enjoyed our meal. However, those manchego skewers were waaaay too chunky! Manchego is such an intense flavor that less is more -- consistency matters, and manchego should be sliced thin. And we could barely taste the membrillo that supposedly existed between said chunks. But the quail egg bites were divine, as was the asparagus dish -- perfectly cooked and the favors were superb. I also thought that the pork/duck meatballs were great, but the sweet sauce brushed over them was superfluous, and almost masked the flavor of the meat. Wine was incredible, as was "cheesecake" dessert bite. Very creative!"

  • "I had been wanting to go to this place since it opened and I had high expectations of Coqueta based on what I've read and heard but was disappointed when I got there. Place is really small but it didn't feel cozy and warm. It felt like the entire place was a bar. Maybe I just really love Bottega. The food was okay, nothing really extraordinary. Pricy though. I loved the Sangria! My husband asked for hot sauce...it took a while to give him a tablespoon of some chili then I was so surprised that we were charged $2.00 for a tablespoon of chili sauce...WTF? I've never ever been charged for chili sauce and they didn't say we would be charged for it. That was so ridiculous!!! Glad I got this out of my system! First and Last visit!"

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. Paella is well worth the 40 minute wait--do it! Also love their sunny side up with chorizo sauce, patatas bravas and duck meatballs. Also only place in SF I've found kalimotxo. Fun!"

  • " Coqueta's restaurant is the spot to go for an extraordinary culinary experience in San Francisco. The food is innovative and every dish is presented with pizzazz. The flavors of the various foods we tried were spectacular! The non-alcoholic J & T Referesco is awesome; it has the sophistication of an alcoholic beverage, and most importantly, tastes amazing-it's refreshing-and is presented superbly The staff is incredibly astute. As an example, my husband got up from the table and the wait staff slyly folded his messy looking napkin. Searching hard for downfalls, the tables are too close together and it took me some time to get acclimated to the music which is on the loud side, but it's only because it was unexpected. Recommeded!"

  • "Although I am a big fan of Chef Chiarello (Bottega is my favorite Italian restaurant), I hesitated going here because of a less-than-great eating experience in Barcelona. But I had read so many great reviews about Coqueta and finally the time was right because a dear friend was in town from Madrid. To put it mildly, we were 'blown away'! Saying that Coqueta is a great dining experience does not do it justice - it is an incredible aesthetic experience. It's like being served incredible food and wine in the elegant, vivacious home of a friend, with all your friends there - just a fun, revelatory culinary night that fills all your senses! Coqueta is now my favorite restaurant in San Francisco."

  • "We took some serious foodies to dinner and we had raved in advance about the pulpo and the albóndigas. The albóndigas were delicious as usual, but we were disappointed that the pulpo was extremely chewy. We had had it before and it melted in your mouth. Our daughter recommended the espárragos which we had not tried before but, unfortunately, they were undercooked and we only got the green variety and none of the purple. The table was divided on the pintxos, but we all agreed that the churros were to die for! The service was knowledgeable and friendly. Our table was greatly situated in a corner with a view of the entire dinning room, but it was quite drafty and we wished we had brought a sweater!"

  • "We had a great time at Coqueta. We first sat out front at the picnic tables and had drinks. They were all well crafted and tasty. We then were seated in the corner round table, where you can see the entire room - very fun. We shared many small plates - the coquettas are terrific - paella and the bistec. Everything was perfect. We will definitely go back. Afterward we took a walk along the water - the location can't be beat."

  • "Solid take on Spanish food, but there is room for improvement. Tried the pulpo, albondigas, pluma, croquetas, chorizo and cana de cabra cheese, smoked salmon with queso fresco, deviled eggs, setas, tortilla espanola, and quail egg pintxo. Pulpo was excellent, not overcooked at all and very similar to what you would find in a pintxo bar in San Sebastian. Croquetas were also well-seasoned and lightly fried, probably one of our favorites of the night.The Iberico pork shoulder was extremely undercooked...I like meat cooked medium rare, and this was more rare with a cold middle that would have been more appropriate for beef, not pork. Also, the sauces on the pork and the albondigas were too sweet. Would go back to try other things!"

  • "My husband and I had dinner here for our sixth anniversary. The service was correct, attentive, good humored—never fussy. The ambience is inviting. Cocktails were balanced and made smart use of unexpected ingredients. Server possessed thorough knowledge of menus and led us to a delicious and appropriate wine for dinner. All dishes—skewers, chicken croquetas, kale salad, grilled octopus, and churros—were all expertly executed (and quickly consumed), but the uni and jamon open face sandwich was out of this world, face-melting good. Absolutely worth the time and energy to get a reservation."

  • "The food is delicious, well prepared and presented. Different kind of menu options so need some input from wait staff. Staff are all very but not overly attentive and tuned in to what you want to know. I like flan and so had some hoping it would be in the good category. The flan was not just good but exceptional, different (better) than any I've ever tasted (that's saying something for what is normally a pleasant but unassuming custard dessert). Everything at Coqueta exceeded our expectations, which were high to begin with."

  • "The whole grilled calamari was the highlight of my dinner, my companions and I liked it so much we ordered a second one. The paella, razor clams, octopus could not be beat also. Menu said paella suitable for 2-3 people. There were 4 of us and it provided the perfect helping size after enjoying a number of tapas. Try the sangria type drinks...what fun."

  • "Heard of this place from a friend who gave good review, but was quite disappointed with the the over-all taste of food and beverage. We ordered Sherly Temple for my daughter. The drink tasted more like mojito w/o the alcohol. The sangria we ordered did not taste like it at all! We ordered gambas and paella...sorry but we tasted better ones. Sorry."

  • "Highlights included grilled octopus, a wonderful gazpacho, iberico belotta ham, white anchovies, patatas bravas. We also had the seafood paella. The shrimp on it were delicious but the rice was too salty and the bottom was burned instead of the expected delicious crust. We ordered a 2001 Rioja from Bodegas Hermanos Pecina which was delicious, showing elegance, lovely effects of age and a perfect match for the food. It was $84 but for a wine of such grace and age a real bargain considering what one would pay for a French or CA wine of equal age and quality. Wine list was well chosen, a welcome change from most restaurants. The wait staff was courteous and knowledgeable. I'd return anytime. Setting on the Embarcadero is an added plus"

  • "Our reservation was for the dining room, but the bar was so beautiful and unique we ate in the bar. I never saw the dining room, we got as far as the bar and fell in love with it. I usually don't like the "little" plate concept, but it actually worked here. Of all of the little plate restaurants, this one most resembles Spain. And a good Spanish Rose by the way. Wonderful calamari, grilled pork/duck meatballs, roasted pardon peppers - everything was very good."

  • "Just when we thought it couldn't get any better, Michael Chiarello/Coqueta brought on a new chef de cuisine and the food is even better! A few dishes have been tweaked for the better (such as the croquetas de pollo). My favorites always include the pulpo (octopus), the new croquetas, calamares de la plancha (grilled calamari), kale salad, and may super favorite amazing albondigas (duck and pork meatballs). We had a new waitress, Asja, she is amazing! My usual servers, Lowell and Kim, were there and came by to hello which made my visit extra special. Always great to see GM Tasha as well. Everyone is so friendly!"

  • "This is a great place. We recently had a very nice lunch - the mushrooms and asparagus were just divine! The indoor space is quite lovely but a bit noisy; the bar area was much more comfortable. The view was spectacular. The spanish wines and cheese were delicious. The waitstaff was not as attentive as we wished but the food made up for it. "

  • "My son was returning from overseas and we planned a late lunch at Coqueta. As luck would have it, customs took longer than anticipated and we were over 30 min. late to our appointment. The server and staff were very welcoming and we proceeded to have a terrific lunch. Each selection was terrific...Sadly due to the late time we couldnt choose the paella (takes 30-40 lead time) but will certainly choose that next time."
