Tried the small plates for our Sunday brunch, and the Crab Quessadilla was great, and the three small tamales all had wonderful flavors. I was surprised I did not need to worry about overly spiced hot dishes. Very subltle mexican dishes. Best chips I';ve had at a restaurant, though we did need to ask for them to accompany the guacamole. We were not charged, but I think Guac should always come with chips. Sat outside to watch the Sausalito sreet scene. A nice time. The Bruch menu looked interesting, but I could not resist trying the tamales, and my wife really wanted the crab quesadilla. Went to this restaurant after attending a cooking class given by Joanne Weir at Homeward Bound of Marin. She is a co-owner of Copita.

We were excited to try the latest from Larry Mendel and Joanne Weir and we were not disappointed. The food, drinks, service, decor and location are great! We loved the different ceviches and the mushroom tacos! We were there on a Saturday night and it was hopping. Only difficulty was hearing each other talk. The noise level was five bells! We commented to our waitress (who BTW was excellent) and she said the noise problem/acoustics were being taken care of in a few weeks. Our waitress knew our food preferences from our Open Table notes, which was impressive. We look forward to returning for a llittle less noisy experience! This is a fun spot for before or after a movie, for a light meal, and for a fun time with friends.

We had lunch on a quiet Monday. Every morsel of food was outstanding, but then, this is Joanne Weir's restaurant so we expected it to be great! When we were seated we were given delicious jicama and cucmber spears. So refreshing. We ordered wonderful guacamole. I chose the chicken tinga tacos, and the flavors in those tacos were incredible! I also tried the Sea Bass Ceviche with pomegranate and orange. UMM! We had a very attentive waiter, and all of the staff was welcoming and professional. They so much wanted us to enjoy our lunch and we did! We can't wait to go back.

  • Too salty and spicy
    OpenTable Diner Since 2010

The food was way too spicy and too salty. I ordered the same dish I had the first time I visited Copita, but it tasted completely different. It was too spicy but was also over spiced with every pantry ingredient possible. I could not taste the fish. Guacamole was very salty. My friend had ceviche she liked but the portion was an appetizer size for $15 was a bit pricey, we thought. A couple at the table next to us, complained they were served main hot entree while they were just half way thru the salad. By the time they finished the salad and food was too cold. They did the same thing we came the first time. I don't understand why they don't give you a chance to consume your first course.

My “Mom”-in-law had heard rave reviews about Copita from some of her Sausalito neighbors. She mentioned Copita as a possible X-mas eve dinner spot. I cannot eat foods containing gluten or food prepared on shared equipment with gluten containing foods. So, I have to research new restaurants before I dine at them. My Mom had NO idea that Copita was GF, I was surprised and thrilled to find that Copita has a 100% GF (gluten free) menu! Everyone in our dinner party (7) GF or not; enjoyed their meal and everyone will be back! From the special of the night “pork cooked on the spit”, the carnitas, rotisserie chicken tacos, fish tacos to the beef enchiladas, guacamole, salsa, chips and “Capita’s Margarita”…everything ranged from perfect to Special!

This was my umpteen visit to Copita and I just love it every time even more. Their ever- changing menu of truly authentic mexican food is just amazing. No rice & beans here. You taste food exactly as it is prepared and served in México City, or any other major city south of the border. From the Carnitas and the Roasted Chicken to the Ceviches and the small tapas plates, the food at Copita is truly a delight in originality and taste, as it should be. Their pomegranate margaritas and their Aguas Frescas (Fresh Fruit Juices) are crafted to perfection. When you combine all of these with the excellent service and the great ambiance, it becomes an out-of-body experience. Fabulous place to recommend to all my friends and family...!

So often Mexican restaurants, particularly those in the suburbs (sorry, Sausalito) conjures up notions of Tex-Mex, clunky, from-the-can food. Copita turns that whole image on its ear and delivers stellar ingredients, balanced flavors, and perfect execution. Take the ceviche. The fish tastes like it was just caught, and the flavors are balanced with just the right amount of lime juice. The result: bright flavors that create the perfect way to kick off the meal. The made to order guacamole is equally fresh, though a tad more kick might've been nice. Still, the texture was dreamy. The cocktails? Amazing. Lots of tequilas to choose from (witness the stand alone tequila menu), but the well-priced wine list has lots to offer too.

We loved Copita's Día de los Muertos Menu. It was just awesome! The Pozole Soup was just exquisite and perfectly seasoned. I felt I was in México city eating! Next came the Mole Rojo Tacos and the Black Bean and Mole de Oaxaca Tamales wrapped in banana leaves. They were out of this world! We had some margaritas as suggested by the Chef and Owner Joanne Weir and they were fabulous. We also tried the Agua Fresca de Jamaica, or the Hibiscus Flower Iced Tea drink - so delicious, we had three refills! The service and the ambiance are just fantastic, and the host very charming, welcoming and accomodating. I can hardly wait to go back again, and again. I am recommending this place to all my friends and family, big time!

The food was great, but the service terrible. We sat for 15 minutes before we were acknowledged by a waiter. It was at least 30 minutes before we had our glass of wine. We went for the ceviche but by the time our waiter took our order (approximately 7:30pm), they were already out of all 4 varieties. A talk with our waiter greatly improved our service after the first 40 minutes.. I'll give this place one more try because I like the food, but be wary.

With the exception of dessert, the quality of the food was lacking. The sea bass tacos were bland, the mushroom tacos were just okay, the salsa that came with the roast chicken had no heat at all (mild even for Gringos). The only good items were the corn tortillas, quesadilla, and the outstanding dish on the menu was the coconut flan with berries. If we are expected to pay these prices, the food should deliver, but I'm afraid this restaurant fell short. Other Mexican restaurants do not charge extra for chips and salsa and entrees include beans, rice, cheese, and guacamole(and their food tastes better, too). The only reason I gave it 3 stars was that the waiters are friendly had have a sense of humor. And I did like the dessert.

I live in SF so couldn't answer to some of the features. I'm sure locals go there but it is right on Bridgeway so I'm sure tourists go there too. It is essentially a sports bar as there is a TV over the bar and the game was on prompting some energetic yelling at times. The food is very, very good. They charge for chips which is strange but they do refill. Instead of chips they start you with jicama and cucumber spears lightly dusted with chili powder. We ordered the melon salad which I liked but my companions didn't. We also ordered the classic ceviche (delicious) and two orders of tacos (3 on a plate) the Kobe Flank Steak and the sea bass. With beer, the total came to $45 each for three of us including tip. I recommend it highly.

Very nice setting, especially if you can sit outside. Fresh ingredients but food was on the bland side with no option of adding hot sauce (none on the table, at least). Salsa is an extra side order. Not very many vegetarian offerings. Prices reflect an effort to take standard Mexican dishes to a more sophisticated level but the execution wasn't totally successful. Don't mind paying a little more if the flavor is there.

The food was good enough.....Very good carnitas, salads were good too. It's a restaurant that wants to reinvent Mexican hospitality by giving you NO salsa ( even with your carnitas) I was charged for a side when I asked for some.....NO CHIPS unless your order them and pay for them. At most restaurants they give you bread without charging.....Well, to me chips at the equivalent of bread....You order a margarita you should not get charged for chips......it's not gracious and welcoming. It's not about the money it's about the mood... There is NO effort for children....No kids meal etc..... So when you leave Copita you will thing food was good, service was good.....Why don't I feel better?? There is no feeling of fiesta!

Tables are a close. Television over the Bar playing some sports event was not a plus. Ceviche just plain worked. I would have preferred small warm tortillas. The little trio of tamales also great marks. The masa fresh and flavorful-- always a chore to get the right balance of fillings to cornmeal if I had a criticism it would be to add more filling. Finished with the salmon in banana leaf also top-flight. I'm going back. Next time I'll try chicken.

The prices are unreasonably high. Some of the dishes were good and some were not. The chicken tinga tacos surprisingly bland. I had a seafood ceviche and it had very little seafood and lots and lots of onions - very hard to eat I felt like I wasted $14. vibrant bar scene with small plate menu of extremely well prepared Mexican fare. House made guacamole, light corn chips with good salsa, complimentary jicama strips, followed by limited menu of tamales done three ways, halibut ceviche, soft Basa fish tacos, or stewed pork with sides of mole, guacamole, red onions, somewhat dry without added side order of black beans. Highlight is variety of tequilas and tequila based cocktails, with artisan touches. Try to sit near front of restaurant near bar- noisy, but sitting in the back near wood fired oven feels like a sauna! Ideally, be seated on the sidewalk area on a nice day to have some conversation with your mate, friends.
