Diner Reviews
  • "My girlfriend and I went here for our anniversary dinner. While the meal certainly wasn't easy on the wallet, it was well worth the money. After being seated we were greeted by our wonderful server Kelvin who informed us of their 5 specials. We perused the menu for a bit, and each found a wine to our liking in their enormous wine menu. The arancini appetizer was delicious. I had the steak oscar, and my girlfriend had the bone-in strip special. We agreed that this may well have been the best meal we've ever had. Even the bread served with our meals was phenomenal (fresh out of the oven and steaming hot). To top everything off, Kelvin got us a dessert on the house. A wonderful gesture even if we were too full to thoroughly enjoy it."

  • "I have been going to Copia for years and have always had great service and food. Look forward to going back"

  • "From getting seated, to water refills to order taking, to coffee, the service was extremely slow. Our waiter did not check on us often. We would have drank more wine had he come by to check on us. The dinner food was fantastic and the outdoor dining area was refreshing. Skip the chocolate cake for dessert, it was dry, bordering stale. For 6 people, a $270 meal should have been better."

  • "Great Patio - one of the best in the city. Copia never disappoints!"

  • "Really subpar...nice patio but that's it. My boyfriend ordered lamb and they gave him brisket. Extremely overpriced."

  • "Our evening out with our Son and his Fiance was perfect due to Copia's superb service, food, and wine. The prime rib, bone in strip, chicken lasagne, and lobster & roasted shrimp farfall were perfectly prepared, beautiful platted, and delicious. Our server, Robbie did an absolutely wonderful job."

  • "The restaurant has a nice feel to it. The waiter was efficient and the food was good. We had the fried risotto cakes to start and they were delicious. I had a shrimp dish which was also quite good. My husband ordered the bone-in rib eye that was a daily special. This is where they went wrong. Most of the steak entrees on the menu were in the $30 range. We didn't ask the price of the special (our fault). When the bill came we were shocked that it was in the $60 + range. Wouldn't have minded the $40 range, as that would reflect what the other menu prices were. The steak was only okay to boot! On a positive side, they have a great wine list and the mark up isn't very much. Probably would not go back because felt a "little had"."

  • "It just didn't feel as upscale as my previous experiences. The hostess had on flip flops and the bartender had on blue jeans. I asked hostess if they were under new management because the atmosphere was TOTALLY different. Also, I reserved seating in patio area but they bumped us for a larger party. I was disappointed until she showed me the room they gifted me ($125) so that we could have privacy. Still feeling unsettle but deciding to make the best out of the situation I focused on ordering my food .They were out of a lot of items such as steak and chicken but this forced me to try something different. I had a bowl of shrimp & grits that were scrumptious. I was nervous until I tasted my food. The food was delicious!!!"

  • "This is simply a fine restaurant. The decor is not over the top, but understated chic. You'd feel fine in casual or dressed up. The menu is carefully selected, and what we ordered was artfully prepared. And wait for the off menu specials. I had the best filet (24 oz bone in filet) I've ever had. Not cheap, but worth every penny. You can certainly break the bank, but there are great selections for reasonable money. Wine list gives you the "market price" and the "restaurant price." Nice touch. Emphasis on American wines. In short, instead of an experience designed to intimidate, Copia does excellent high end food with knowledgeable service, no fussiness and no artificial pretense. Will definitely return."

  • "This was our second visit to Copia Wine Garden and it consistently has been a wonderful experience. The food is delicious; the chef has incredible culinary abilities. The wine list is global and competitively priced. The atmosphere is EXACTLY what you should expect. No screaming kids running around and not a "bar crowd" tossing peanut shells on the floor. This is a perfect venue for working professionals...life begins at 40 and this is a perfect example of what you will appreciate."

  • "I am a real red meat eater, but having had a lot recently, I decided to go for "the other white meat". This pork chop was probably a goo 1.25" think, and perfectly cooked...pink, and not dry, served with homemade applesauce. Potato hash that accompanied it was also delicious."

  • "A lot of variety, daily specials, & the largest wine list I've ever seen at a restaurant! Many wines were available by the glass, so each diner could have exactly what he/she liked. Reservations were easy to get at the time we wanted, even though there was a large convention in town, & there was no waiting to be seated. Easily walkable from the Renaissance hotel or the convention center. Copia salad was delicious, but too heavy on the dressing. Some of the dishes were too salty for some of our diners, usually those with sauces. I was there twice in one week, once with a group of 6 & once with a group of 14. Steaks came out perfectly cooked, & portions were generous. The waiter our 1st visit was perfect; 2nd waiter a little too enthusiastic."

  • "Dinner set for 4 morphed to 9! Food was wonderful! Great wines by the glass also. Pricing inline for quality, quantity of food."

  • "The best part of the experience was our waiter Kelvin. He did his very best to accommodate our Paleo diet needs, and the result was quite good. It was a quiet Thursday night, and no large groups were present, so it was very pleasant. A good safe choice for steaks and seafood. "

  • "I had a business lunch at Copia Tuesday; the service and food were very good and my client was impressed with the restaurant. Alexander was our server and he balanced attentiveness with giving us privacy. The only slight complaint I had was that the hostess tried to seat the two of us at a two-top though we had a reservation and the place was close to empty. I don't know why she thought squeezing us into a little table like that would be acceptable. We were two women - I really wonder if she would have done the same with two men. This was my first lunch at Copia and I would definitely recommend it. "

  • "We goggled restaurants in downtown St. Louis and found Copia. It sounded good, so we made a reservation. Wow. So glad we went. The interior is modern and chic but with a funky vibe. Our server, Kelvin, was top notch and even gave us a full tour of the facility, including the awesome outside patio area. It has a retractable roof! This has to be a very happening place on the weekends, if not, it should be. The menu is eclectic and has lots to choose from. We had the cheese plate to start, then chose a wedge salad to share. Kelvin had it split and chopped for us, and it was delicious! We both had steak, one the special dry aged rib-eye with three shrimp and champagne sauce, and the other a KC strip. Both were cooked perfectly and oh so yummy!"

  • "4 of us dined on business. Thankfully no client. Fiasco started "Fish of day prepared diff. Menu says 'served over Olive & Arugula Cous Cous' but we're out of cous cous." No big deal, right? Wrong. A warning sign. We ordered Bacon Wrapped Smoked Shrimp appetizer. Server apologized: we ran out of that. When entrees arrived, 1 guest said "I ordered broccoli like my buddy, not vegetable medley." Server apologized: ran out of broccoli. Wed, 715pm, downtown St. Louis--no broccoli. 2 guests ordered Black Sesame Ahi. The fish had turned: they served spoiled tuna. My medium rare filet mignon came out very, very rare. There's more, but no space to keep writing. Except to say: Mgr never came by & Server "reduced bill" to $232. Stay away!"

  • "We had eaten at copia about 8 months ago, and looked forward to bringing a friend to enjoy it. The first time we were seated in the front part of the restaraunt. This time they took us in the large back section. I was not thrilled! But after we sat, near the fountain with fire, I sunk into the lovely ambience! The wine and food were everything I remembered! The extensive wine list, and interesting food menu did not disappoint us and really impressed our friend. We each had something different to eat and all were very happy. I could not resist ordering the shrimp & grits again, and was not disappointed!"

  • "We'll get to the potatoes shortly. First the set up: Picked Copia for dinner before a show at the Fabulous Fox. Early reservation (5:30p). Which, in the end, gave us plenty of time. Guessing early seating time accounted for lack of any dinner crowd. Our server was Eric P and he may be one of the best waiters we've had in a long time. Very, very personable. Knowledgeable on the wine list and gave great food recommendations. My wife had Halibut on couscous. Very good flavors, including a little heat and spice in the couscous. We ordered a mac and cheese to share at the table. Lackluster. I had a bone-in filet and their house potatoes. Steak was perfectly prepared. Potatoes must be made with butter cream, as there was a heavenly sweetness! "

  • "Our server was very attentive. He even took us on a tour of the restaurant and wine bar. Outdoor seating was amazing. Had retractable roof for inclimate weather. Beautiful setting. I had the king crab leg and it was perfect. My husbands steak was cooked to perfection"

  • "First I will say the restaurant was clean and beautifully decorated. I took my wife there for Mothers Day Brunch but was very disappointed in the lack of creativity of a menu, not much food choice to choose from, not enough staff working to accommodate all customers and a lack of desserts on a special day as it was. I believe the restaurant took the easy way out with the preparation for the Brunch as just a way to offer a Brunch that will make money for them, instead of making it a special visit to their restaurant hoping for a revisit by all. "

  • "I’ve had nice meals at Copia for lunch and dinner and assumed the quality would extend to their brunch. The Good:OK selection of foods. The pizza was actually the best item offered. The deserts tasted OK but selection was limited.Bacon was thick and flavorful. The Bad:Poor service. No refills offered and no one cleared our plates.Must not have had enough staff, and our waiter was called to cut ham.The French toast and the chicken wings were burnt;eggs were bland;turkey looked like school cafeteria food;ham looked like a pre-cooked grocery store ham;serving biscuits and gravy in one tray is a mistake.Given the quality, selection and service, $35 per head was sorely overpriced. 20% service charge was ridiculous."

  • "I went their for brunch and it was fabulous! The food was great and the service was awesome. I can't wait to go back and check out their dinner menu or go for drinks. It's in a great spot...love walking down Washington."

  • "As typical, another fantastic meal for our date night. The waiter was exceptional, made great wine recommendations, excelled at service. The food was outstanding. We each had the filet, it truly melts in your mouth. All aspects of the dinner were perfect. When we want to splurge and get the most from it, this is the place. Great atmosphere, great food, great wine, great location, attentive and knowledgeable waitstaff. I highly recommend this restaurant. "

  • "Great night with superb service. The entire party enjoyed their meals from the mako shark special to lamb shank to the linguine. Everyone absolutely loved the food. Desserts were good with a wide variety...some of the desserts were a bit obnoxious in size but very tasty. This was our 2nd trip in 3 weeks and Carlos, the server, definitely made this last trip a perfect evening."

  • "I took out of town visitors to the restaurant for dinner and they are still talking about the meal. We all had steaks and shared king crab legs and crab cakes as an appetizer. Everything was wonderful including the monster desserts!"

  • "I brought my out of town friends here, and we all were impressed with every aspect of Copia. The duck, Ahi tuna, and the lobster mac n cheese were all delicious. We had the gooey butter cake for dessert, and it was amazing. Our server Alex was attentive and pleasant. I will be dining there again soon! "

  • "We like Copia & have hosted events there too. Generally pleased...until last Saturday. Our reservation was for 7ish-usually peak dining, and we noted that is was quite empty. Downtown was busy. At any rate, we were courteously greeted and brought to a table in the garden section, where the roof was open and the setting quite pleasant. Our server doubled as bartender, and was friendly, efficient and attentive. Problem 1-wine..1st bottle bad...starting to fizz. Bartender replaced it, & clearly this one also heading south. We took it to avoid looking like whiners, and drank with ice Hoosier style. Split salad(under dressed & over croutoned) & rib eye (thin, more fat than meat) Mashed potatoes left from the Cold War. Awful. Won't go back."

  • "2nd visit to Copia, same excellent, friendly service & great food/drink. Gotta get the butter cake for dessert! It was amazing & big enough to share. Staff really make it special."

  • "Once again, Copia's delivered a superb wine and dinning experience. My wife and I had an extremely enjoyable evening, and our waiter, Robbie provided impeccable service as usual. We had the prime rib and a seafood special and both were perfectly prepared and delicious. Because we had red meat and white fish, we passes on buying a bottle of wine this trip, but enjoyed their great wine's by the glass selections. I enjoyed a Ponzi Pino Noir and Stags Leap Napa Cab, as my wife enjoyed a dry French Chablis. A great evening of dinning!"

  • "Could've been a near perfect dining experience. After taking our drink order, we were informed that there were 3 large parties being seated - that we should "hurry" to get our appetizer and entrees ordered otherwise our "wait time" might be affected. Our plans included a delicious meal with a couple of bottles of wine from our favorite Napa winery. Asked for silverware & napkins after the appetizer arrived, server explained there was a shortage due to the large parties?? Our server was overwhelmed & hurried when he "checked" with us during the entrée. Never ordered the wine, felt rushed. Big parties ruled that night - excellent food, beautiful atmosphere - will try another night. Would suggest adding wait staff to handle large parties."

  • "This is not an inexpensive restaurant. With that understanding there are usually certain accoutrements that one would expect like bread and butter at the table. I recently went with a group of 14 so it was a long wait (30 minutes) to get all the dishes prepared to be served at once. During the wait a little bread would have been nice to stave of the hunger pains."
    Dined on 4/15/2014
  • "Grits & Shrimp and the Lobster & Shrimp Farfalle were both really tasty, and portions are very generous. Waiter was very loud and rattled off 3 whole minutes of "menu notes", without asking us first if we had any specific questions or if we already knew what we wanted - so that was kind of annoying. His manner was rather abrupt and not real "warm" - aside from that, the food that we got was really great and we got 2 more meals out of it the next day!"

  • "I made reservations at Copia for a bachelorette party. Great pick. The restaurant was nice and service was good. The food was great but the prices a little pricey. This would be a special occasion. Can't complain too much otherwise. The ladies bathroom door was broken in though. For it being such a nice restaurant I found this shocking. I mean the whole frame was off the wall like someone ripped it off."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The food here is incredible! It is certainly a bit high on the price range and wouldn't be a frequent stop but it's great for a nice occasion. Try the bacon wrapped shrimp and the steaks! Phenomenal!"
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "Our waiter was funny and energetic but ruined the experience. He had a tendency to almost throw the dishes down on the table. Water glasses were not refilled until asked. After entrees were delivered he stayed to talk about how fresh the fish was for almost 3 minutes, not realizing the food was getting cold. For the price, the staff operates more like an Applebee's than a nice higher end establishment. Scallop risotto cakes were very salty, but the other 3 dishes were ordered were very good. Chocolate cake was huge and the gooey butter cake was fantastic."
