Diner Reviews
  • "The neighborhood is notoriously bad for food and this place completely surprised me. The staff was nice and accommodating and the food was great. Everyone was happy with their meals. We work in the neighborhood and will recommend it to friends. Nice place!"

  • "I'm a regular at Coopers, the food is good, but mainly it's due to the close proximity to Penn Station. Our group of four made our meal from the apps, the Gorgonzola fondue is EXCELLENT, and I highly recommend. The service is slow and we had to ask for someone on a regular basis. I'd still go back, you can't go wrong...unless you're in a hurry!"

  • "Good food and interesting presentation of dishes. Great spot for pre-theater lunch. Very accommodating service. Definitely will return when I go to NYC again."

  • "I have been there twice. The service was outstanding. The waiter was attentive without being hovering. It was very comfortable. My friend and I sat for hours talking and we never felt rushed. Very comfortable place. The food is good- old fashioned Italian- what could be better?"

  • "We got there late but that was not a problem. They make sure we made it to the Knicks/Nets game, the restaurant is a stone throw to the stadium. For my four fussy kids, they ate everythilng. Soup, pizza, fish, steak something for everyone. I had a tasty salad with panseared halibut which was from a prefix menu, great price plus delicious!! Will definitely return!!"

  • "Great for a great meal before or after a MSG event"

  • "Cooper's Tavern is in a great location and has very reasonable prices considering the area that it is located. The food and service at this restaurant was average. This restaurant isn't a destination in itself, however, if you're in the area for an event, it would be a good place to have lunch or dinner."

  • "Nice family-owned restaurant! Excellent food and service with a smile. Prices extremely good for Manhattan! A little gem and easy walk from both NY Penn station and the Hammerstein Ballroom."

  • "This is a great location and venue for business meeting. Close to Penn, without the hassle of tourist mobs. Service was very attentive and professional with some nice unexpected touches. Our party was in for a late lunch of salads and sandwiches, though we were treated well and not rushed. Nice find!"

  • "Chose this restaurant for its proximity to MSG. But then was delighted by our dining experience. Our waiter was spectacular. He was attentive, personable, and offered wonderful suggestions. The food was top notch , high quality and the menu offered a wide range of choices. I look forward to dining there again."

  • "Good food and service at a fair priced. Conveniently located near MSG."

  • "The pictures were a bit misleading. It really is a fancy diner not a tavern. Food wasn't bad but like all other reviews, inattentive servers. We wanted condiments with our meals, hot sauce, more dressing but no one ever came by or checked on us. Not a bad place to grab a quick meal before heading to MSG or waiting for train but def not a place to go out of the way to go to."

  • "Great location for a pre dinner show at the Garden. Food is good value and you get what you pay for. Service depends on the evening but never below acceptable."

  • "In the heart of midtown, you will find this modern, delectable gem. The shrimp with chorizo risotto was cooked perfectly and enough for two people. The grilled pork chop was huge and came with a choice of dipping sauces. My husband chose a lemon caper sauce which complimented the pork surprisingly well. Grilled veggies were seasoned and perfectly cooked. The menu included the standard pub comfort foods, pizza, burgers, fish and chips, so we were pleasantly surprised to get such great meals. Too full to try the desserts. Definitely would recommend this moderately priced find."

  • "I was in the city for only one day & chose Cooper's Tavern as a meeting spot for family. I was so hoping it would be nice. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise. Food was great & reasonably priced, atmosphere quiet & congenial. Service was a bit slow. But I would certainly return & recommend to others."

  • "We enjoyed our experience at Cooper's Tavern. This was our second time dining at Cooper's Tavern and both were positive. The atmosphere is homey but lush and the seating is comfortable. Our server was very attentive and the food came quickly and our order was correct. The vegetable ravioli was delicious as was the pizza, though it had about twice the cheese I would have liked. Overall, a very good place to eat."

  • "Good service, good food and close to MSG. Skyscraper burger was great."

  • "I reserved Cooper's Tavern because of the location to where my customers could meet me for lunch along with liking the great choices I saw on the menu when I visited their website. When you invite clients to lunch, it's nice to have a varied selection. I was very pleased with the atmosphere because it gave me unrushed time to spend with my customers while enjoying excellent service and great food. I would certainly bring other clients to Cooper's Tavern in the near future."

  • "The restaurant was busy - and the wait staff accommodating - but the kitchen was slow - the beer options limited - and the medium rare burgers came out well done and way to late for us to enjoy before having to leave for a meeting. Don't send your best friend - best they will not be afterward."

  • "Average food, decent service. Nothing outstanding except its proximity to Madison Square Garden"

  • "Made reservations through Open Table. Menu looked fabulous. When we arrived at the restaurant, it was closed for a private party. I called the restaurant and they advised that they were unable to "turn off" the Open Table reservations but they were calling all parties who had reserved tables through Open Table. I never received a call. Reservations were for 5:30 and it was 5:15 when I arrived at the restaurant from New Jersey. Very disappointing."

  • "This is a great find. The food was great, the service was fantastic. The menus are heavy though. I know thats a weird thing, but when it comes to menus...they are heavy!! :-) I'll come back after I do some curls"

  • "Went to dinner here before Super Comedy Jam at Hammerstein Ballroom. Easy to get to, being just 2 blocks from Penn Station, and after dinner just a block from Hammerstein Ballroom. Didn't take too much time in reading the reviews, just looked at ratings and was expecting Irish fare. The Italian food was Great !! Many people must think this, because one of the choices was Italian Shephard's Pie. It was great !! Stuffed mushrooms were not up to par, but our guests loved the scyscraper burger and the CrabCake Burger. Had a few drinks each and the bill was a pleasant surprise. Will be back."

  • "Went to Cooper's because it is very close to Madison Square Gardens and we had tickets to a concert. Our waiter was very good. He asked if we were in a hurry to see a show. We said we are seeing a show but not in a hurry. We will be 30 minutes late to the show. He also mentioned that they had a pre-fix theater menu but we ordered off the regular menu. everything was delicious."

  • "There weren't many patrons so the restaurant was quiet. Service was very good and the mushroom soup was excellent. The waitress was very accommodating. We were not rushed. Enjoyable lunch."

  • "in the New Yorker Hotel, which wasn't evident on the Open Table description. I scheduled a business lunch here and was a little disappointed with the ambience, esp considering it was a "1,000 point" reservation. The interior doesn't seem to have been updated in a while, service was indifferent. and the burger was standard. It has a kind of retro charm, but you've got to stretch to see that."

  • "Delicious food, great service - Veal Milanese was awesome. It was nice to have a real dinner instead of fried bar food prior to the Keith Urban concert!"

  • "Had tickets for an event at Madison Square Garden and we we didn't want to eat pub food, which this neighborhood is famous for. Coper Tavern was a great option. It had a nice ambiance... cozy but not overly romantic. My steak was prepared perfectly and my wife loved her pasta dish."

  • "Very disappointing. The food was average and cocktails weren't that good and very small in size."

  • "Mussel appetizer completely flavorless and 20% had sand in them..daughter had crab cake burger entree, processed frozen tasting crab cake with 60% filler, she ate less than half. Wife had pork chop, somewhat tasty thanks to gorgonzola sauce but completely dry. I had spaghetti with duck meatballs, boring , and they were OUT of parmesean cheese!really? After all that gave them one more shot with dessert, MISTAKE..chocolate fondue for the table came out luke warm and was served with a tea light under it lol Accompanied byt wenty AGED biscotti, almost cracked a tooth. And to top it all off, they reported to open table that we never showed up!!!Dont know how they missed us we were the only table seated!! That's what I get for cheating on Carmines!!!!"

  • "The food at Cooper's Tavern is surprising -- what could be just a predictable hotel bar/Italian food menu in a bustling commuter neighborhood, has lots of nice extra touches and great execution, thanks to Chef Julian Claus-Ehlers. The portions are large, so appetizers can be shared (we had the delicious crunchy calamari which was sprinkled with hot peppers, and three different varieties of bruschetta). After commuter hours and Madison Square Garden shows start, it quiets down considerably and would be a nice place for a quiet, romantic dinner. The waiter we had was very helpful with suggestions on the menu and wine list."

  • "Went to Cooper's Tavern after a day of walking around the city with my whole family. Everyone enjoyed what they had. I was seated right away, waiter was awesomely funny and charming, and it was just an all around good time. I have been living on the West Coast for some time now and boy did I miss real PEI mussels, and CT didn't disappoint in their preparation of them. The salads, soups, Sheperd's pie, lamb shank, pork chop, and other appetizers were all delicious."
