Diner Reviews
  • "I have been to Cooper's numerous times and am a long time wine club member - the food is always great - Service is usually good - and a couple of times great. This time - we ordered everyone the Lobster/Crab Bisque and the Calimari - never got the Calimari - the bisque came out - which was really good - and then we waited - thinking the Calimari was coming out - but then the food came - never really mentioned it as it was probably a good thing (we would have been too full to eat the dinner!) - we also had to ask for the pretzel bread - which is great - and also our water a couple of times - good personality on the waitress - may have just had too many larger tables (we had 7)"

  • "Loved walking in an welcomed with a glass of wine, we sat outside to a delicious dinner. Love their flatbreads and sandwiches as much as their entrees."

  • "Cooper's Hawk is very good. The staff at the hostess desk are always a bit rude and don't make eye contact, but everyone else is nice. They do wine tastings while you wait and then when you get to your table, there are so many delicious choices for food! I wish they had a bit more vegetarian options, but the ones they do are great. Parking can be a problem--you can almost never park in their lot, but there is overflow at the Westin next door, so it is not an issue."

  • "It's nice to go to a restaurant, know that you can have lunch in less than two hours, and still enjoy your food. The food is good, plentiful, and the service is always friendly."

  • "Had a great meal at Coopershawk for my son's birthday! THe customer service was unbelievable! Meaning outstanding! And the food and wine were excellent as always!"

  • "We arrived 15 minutes early for our 4:00 pm reservation as we had come directly from a local theater, and they made us wait with my 92-year old mother in law until exactly 4:00 pm (then seated us in an empty dining room). Our food was just mediocre. The grouper was swimming in oil/butter not the mustard sauce it should have had. The salmon special and a filet that was ordered were great, although they didn't have any baked potatoes! The turkey/brie sandwich which is usually good, looked like it had been dropped. In addition the dining room was uncomfortably warm. We have tried this restaurant location before with mixed reviews, this was definitely our last time going there. There is absolutely no consistency."

  • "I'm sadly let down by Cooper's hawk. I've dined many times before. I made an online reservation well in advance. I was celebrating our 1 year anniversary. I asked for a table for 2 with a specific bottle of chilled wine to be waiting. When we got there they totally missed our reservation. You could tell because the hostesses looked panicked. No apology or anything. It ruined the mood I was going for. Plus our waiter was getting way too friendly leaning in our booth and so on. The food was great though. Front of house needs to get their act together. The reso was made hours in advance and its all about details and customer service. Will not celebrate any future special occasions here."

  • "Took my sister and our spouse's here for my sisters bday dinner. Food was good, service was good. Did not have to wait for our table past our reservation time. Great place to dine!"

  • "We had a good experience. Eight of us had played golf, wine-tasted and had dinner so it was a long day. Our server was exceptional. The noise level was loud but we were loud too so that was OK. Food was very good. My favorite food choice was the calamari."

  • "I felt my food was not worth the price. We were given a free sample of the wine of the month when we walked in. When we tried to order the wine of the month we were told we had to join their wine club in order to buy a glass! The waiter was O.K. but not great. It was quite noisy in the restaurant."

  • "We enjoyed the evening. I just find it get to noisy for me."

  • "We always enjoy dinner at Coopers Hawk. Their "Barrel Reserve" red wine is always wonderful and I am partial to their braised shortrib. Service is always top notch."

  • "Greay dining -accoustic's were not good due to "sceetching" "ladies" in next booth. Ah much better when they finally left!"

  • "We left our show early and arrived well before our reserrvation time. The hostess was gracious. Our server pointed out several items on the menu that I would not have thought to try. She was very knowledgable. Love the multiple "Surf and Turf" choices."

  • "My family and I LOVE the Barrington, IL location - from the beautiful patio, to the great service, to the exceptional food where you want to savor each bite. Unfortunately, we were not anywhere near as satisfied with this Wheeling location. Service was poor, the food (the same food that I always get at the Barrington location) was adequate, and the patio (which we chose not to use) backs up to a parking lot and street so on top of the adequate food, you get the extra added benefits of car exhaust and street noises. I'm so glad that we've had the opportunity to dine multiple times in the Barrington location, because otherwise, I would never go to a Cooper's Hawk restaurant again. In this case, I will just avoid this particular location."

  • "Cooper's Hawk is one of our favorite restaurants. We, and our kids have been Wine Club members for years. Although we've been to several locations in several states, the Wheeling, IL location is our favorite. The staff, the food, the wine and everything about the place is awesome!"

  • "Good food and reasonably priced blend wines. Noise level is difficult to deal with. I have been here several times and can say this place is noisy when full. If you want to hear then go for lunch instead of dinner since it is less crowded. Other than that, no complaints. Good service and nice selection of entrees. If you have room for dessert, the bread pudding is wonderful."

  • "Popped in for dinner the other night and to pick up some wine. As always, food was great as was the wine. Never had a bad experience here."

  • "While sometimes it is harder to get in and out on a timely basis, I've never had anything at this restaurant that I didn't enjoy - food OR wine. The servers are always friendly and aside from a delay with an iced tea or a water refill, I've never felt neglected. It would help if they could focus a little across all servers with a more business friendly lunch but I will definitely be back."

  • "This restaurant presents a great combination of good food with interesting dishes but still reasonably priced. We belong to the wine club and learned that we can use our monthly wine selection at our table. This cuts down on the cost and allows one to enjoy wine without breaking the bank."

  • "The lung was great and not too pricey. Dinner can definitely get expensive; but this was my first time getting lunch. For 2 people-both ordering wine and a lunch entree- the total was just under $40. The waiter was very friendly and knowledgable about the product. I will for sure be coming back here for a nice lunch!!"

  • "I was there very early on a Sunday night and they were out of the fish special. So I chose the grouper which is always on the menu. it was a bit tough and not really flaky. perhaps it had been frozen. I never thought to ask if it was fresh. i asked for extra vegetable instead of potatoes but they just left off the potatoes but did not add any more vegetable. service was good though."

  • "Everything was great.. The food was amazing.. Loved everything.."

  • "The food was good, although not a huge variety. We were disappointed with the service. Our server had a perfect opportunity to wow us with the menu selections as this was our first time there, but he could not even recall the ingredients in some of the dishes. Furthermore, he did not suggest any appetizers, explain the wine membership (but made a sad face when we opted out), or thank us for dining with them. When you go somewhere for a special occasion, you want the whole experience. We could have ordered take out and been happier."

  • "My friend wanted to try Coopers Hawk for her birthday. The food was great and the service was fine. It was pretty loud conversation-wise, so it was hard to hear each other even across the table. Also, we were asked if we were celebrating something. As we were, we mentioned my friend's birthday. She was presented with a lovely dessert. When we were presented with the bill, we saw we were charged for it. I had not experienced that before. Usually, birthday desserts are free, especially when we don't bring it up."

  • "I have eaten here a number of times and the food has been consistently excellent. Today I tried the southwest egg roll appetizers and thought they were the most delicious I have ever eaten, much much better than Chinese ones! My main dish was three small steaks which were juicy and done to perfection. My husband's tortilla soup was wonderful as were his potstickers. Three of four people in my party had appetizers for main courses. Dessert was overly sweet but good. I can't wait to return."

  • "Everyone enjoyed the food and relaxed dining. Food arrived in a timely manner and the menu choices were more than enough to satisfy everyone. Would consider dining here for special occasions. We highly recommend the soups, appetizers and salads. The portions were more than adequate, with enough leftover to take home. Very well done!"

  • "We have dined here many times and the food was very good. This time, I ordered the Pistachio Encrusted Grouper. My wife ordered the Salmon. Both were only fair. Grouper was almost tasteless. Potatoes were good."
    Dined on 6/24/2014
  • "I forgot how bad the noise level is at this restaurant. It is bad when you cannot hear your server, nor your partner across the table. Great selection of food, and very good. But noise level is SO loud that at times you cannot concentrate on what you want from the menu, you cannot hear the server speak about the wine, you cannot concentrate on what you want from the menu and lingering after the meal to enjoy a coffee or dessert or your partner is not an option. I cancelled my wine membership last year, and now I remember why. I will not return and do not recommend it to anyone. Please, Please install some kind of noise cushioning materials somewhere in the restaurant."
