Diner Reviews
  • "Enjoyed an excellent dinner at Cool River after a flight into DFW. It is easy access from the airport. A place for business people and a fine night of dining. Well know for steak, great Black Truffle butter and creamed Spinach. Service was excellent and we will be back.."

  • "The atmosphere was very nice and even could be romantic. I was not impressed with the food and the prices:( I would chose somewhere different. I don't mind paying top dollar for amazing food, but here it was equivalent to outback but five times the price"

  • "My wife and I were in town for the Final Four and hanging out in the Las Colinas area. We wanted a very nice dinner with a good wine list. Cool River exceeded our expectations. All the other reviews about a smoke issue turned out to be exaggerations. We hate smoke but did not have any problems during our meal. The white list is extensive but pricey. The dead cow was excellent. The service was first class. We'll be back."

  • "Anniversary destination turned out spectacular. Atmosphere was welcoming, waiter was attentive but not too hovering, wine list extensive and the food was excellent. Made the evening special. This place definitely comfortable for either a gathering of friends or tasteful romantic dinner."

  • "Prices are a little high, but not for the level of service and the quality of food. Perfect for a special evening. Great western decor. Heaven for steak lovers."

  • "I am sure smokers love, love, love this restaurant. The food is great, the drinks are great, the atmosphere is energetic. My only problem was the cigarette and cigar smoke. I can understand it in the bar but it was pretty heavy in the dining room too. Will we be back?? Hmmm... I am not sure."

  • "I had a lunch meeting with a new recruit and while there was a good buzz in the dining room, it never becam a problem with a normal level of conversation. The food is excellent and the waiter (Willie) was outstanding. Cool River is my go-to restaurant in the Las Colinas/Irving area. I have never had an average, much less bad, experience here."

  • "Two of us had the Cowboy Ribeye. While it was good, I would not consider it best boned ribeye that I have had. I expect some marbeling as that is why I like the flavor or ribeye but there was too much fat in the steak."

  • "We went to celebrate my wife's birthday. I made a note about it when I made the reservation. David was our waiter and he said happy birthday to my wife when we arrived to our table. His service and recomendations were outstanding and he always took care about our needs during our stay. !Congratulations again for great service and delicious food!"

  • "Good Food/Drink, Great Service & Cigars - What's not to like !"

  • "Went there while on business trip with two close friends. Wine list was fantastic. Food was great and the cigar lounge was and added bonus."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Food was very good and nicely presented. Unique options. Service very good. The cigar smoke smell in the dining room was horrific! (And the bar was not busy.) Made the experience very unpleasant. My guest commented on it as well."

  • "We arrived to find that Cool River still allowed smoking in restaurants. It was a good thing the hostess was so unpleasant, she actually distracted us from the smoke. We sat in the bar and had a drink until the rest of our party arrived, then sat down for dinner. There were eight of us. We chose our wine then ordered dinner. I asked for a vegetable plate without mushrooms. The chef at this restaurant seems to lack creativity because they brought me steamed broccoli, grilled asparagus, sautéed spinach, and a baked potato. He/she must have thought I had an iron deficiency and needed all my vegetables to be dark green. This placed paled in comparison to the service and food of The Oceanaire Seafood Room' where we had dinner the night before."
    Dined on 3/12/2014
  • "Enjoyed evening, but the hostess let something to be desired."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "I would choose this restaurant again as it has the quality of food of the best steak houses in Dallas with a much more relaxed, less pretentious atmosphere."
    Dined on 3/8/2014
  • "DIdn't realize that Cool River had such an advanced fine dining menu. Wine list was great and the food was superb."
    Dined on 3/9/2014
  • "The food and service were excellent, but the smoke from the bar was unbearable. I'll not be going back."

  • "Great food and service. Always too loud if you really need to have a business discussion over lunch."

  • "I have to say a huge thanks to our waitress Kate and the hostess. We were originally at a 4 top, had a late show (over an hour later) and needed a spot for a fifth. They graciously moved us to a 5 top and we were able to keep Kate as our server. The food was great but the service was outstanding. Helped me provide a co-worker and friend a nice birthday dinner when she had to be away from her family due to work travel. Thanks so much to all for being so accomodating!"

  • "Enjoy the restaurant ... 5th time dining when visiting Dallas. Three of us were trying to discuss some business with a candidate we were interviewing and it was way too loud to get much done. A quiet table in the corner would have been ideal but it didn't appear they were set up to accommodate that need. This was last Tuesday night at 8PM."

  • "I have eaten here many times and have never had anything that wasn't delicious. The only down side is that it is very noisy so you either have to get close to talk or use your "outside" voice. Sea Bass is always fabulous!"

  • "I brought by boss and a couple customers here for lunch. It is one of my favorite places. The food is very good and this time our waiter was even entertaining. I believe his name is Willy, he is from New Jersey and just fun to listen to and have at your table. The only thing I don't love about this place is that you can still smoke in the bar area, it is because they have a cigar lounge--which is pretty cool in concept but I would never bring my asthmatic child here. I don't love the smell of smoke either but in the restaurant you cannot smell it. In fact I NEVER go to any restaurants that have a smoke smell to them, but Cool River is my exception. We had the special fish tacos and they were awesome. Worth the trip."

  • "Great steakhouse with the traditional offerings, but also some very interesting additional dishes, like my venison with lingonberry sauce. My partner had "pot roast short ribs" with boursin cheese smashed potatoes, both were fantastic. Natural wood grill, I noticed it right away when I tasted my grilled asparagus. Highly recommended! I'll be back."

  • "It would add to the atmosphere if Cool River completely separated their ventilation of their Smoke Room from the dining area of the restaurant -- they do this in Austin."

  • "We have visited the restaurant on two dfferent occasions. Each time we have been thoroughly impressed with the food, service and ambience."

  • "I took a client here for lunch. Food was excellent and "reasonably" priced. I quote reasonably as it's not a cheap dining experience, but not exorbitant by any means. I recommend this place to all my friends looking for a great business lunch in the Irving area."

  • "Always a great place for business lunch or happy hour."

  • "I have a group of guys that will not go any where elsa. We meet about twice a year at Cool River. This is the first time we have met for dinner. It was just a great."

  • "We love this place. First of all, they have fantastic bread that they bring out. And the food is delicious as well. Great service too!"

  • "Went to Cool River two days in a row for lunch. Day 1, I ordered the special, the Ruben. Not corned beef, but boiled brisket, the sauerkraut was not sour or tasty. Topped with tasteless cheese and served on a pretzel roll covered in oil on all sides. So much mustard, I couldn't taste anything else. The accompanying buffalo fries were orange in color but had no spicyness. Day 2, I resolved to do better and healthier. I had the caesar salad topped with salmon, which seemed to have been picked in cooking oil. The good grill flavor, was masked by over seasoning. The check was not presented within five minutes of clearing the dishes and coffee was not offered on either day. Same owner as 3 Forks, really? NEVER AGAIN."

  • "Cool River was very good for my business lunch although it got a bit noisy during the lunch hour. The only negative was the stale smell of cigar smoke as one entered the building. The smell was so strong that it was on my shirt when I got home."

  • "Great spot for a night out or a business dinner/lunch. Food was excellent, service was prompt and attentive, and there's a large bar area with billiards, cigar room, lots of TVs and big screens with sports. Definitely worth a repeat!"

  • "steak was perfect - myriad of selections on wine list - great atmosphere"

  • "We went on a weekday for a late lunch. We were offered a table next to the restrooms, even though we specifically asked not to be seated close to the restrooms on our online reservations--one of my husband's pet peaves. Since the place was nearly empty, we moved tables. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful. The III Forks Salad was excellent. We ordered the Ribeye Steak with baked potato and the Denver Venison which came with mashed potatoes, asparagus and red cabbage. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. The Creme Brulee and the multi-layered chocolate cake left a bit to be desired. The place is beautiful inside and we had a good time. We may not have paid those prices for lunch, if we didn't have a gift certificate, though."

  • "Great environment for a business lunch - or any kind of lunch. The food is delicious and they seated us in a quiet area."

  • "Lunch is pricey. Good for business lunch to impress client"

  • "If you're looking for a nice place for a business meeting, this isn't it. We had a party of five, and the noise level on a Tuesday at lunch was deafening. You could only hear the person you were sitting right next to. The service was fine- efficient, quick, and non-intrusive- but the food was mediocre. I don't think we'll be back."

  • "Great service, exceptional food quality fun environment."

  • "The overall experience was wonderful. My date and I began with an appetizer and cocktails in the bar. Both of which were delicious. The crab cakes were some of the best I've had. We dined in the dining room, where the ambiance was fitting of a romantic Valentine's day. My date ordered the Chilean Sea Bass, and we both thought it was wonderful. My dinner, however, was not up to par with the rest of the evening. I ordered the devil's creek shrimp. No where on the menu was it indicated these bad boys would be drenched in BBQ sauce. Upon closer inspection, I couldn't find the cheese they were supposed to be stuffed with anywhere. It tasted good, but it was not the elegant meal I was hoping for. Overall, it was a very nice experience."

  • "- Food was OK but very limited selection. - Price to quality ratio was poor - Staff tried to clean away plates before we'd finished. - Espresso coffee was served in large mugs and was stone cold - no class!"
