Diner Reviews
  • "If you are looking for something different than traditional American brunch (too many pancakes, fried potatoes, cream etc.) Cookshop offers an inspirational, delicious and healthier alternative."

  • "Cookshop did not disappoint for food. We enjoyed several apps, entrees and desserts. Gnocchi divine, roast chicken delightful, scallops excellent and mezze nice (though too large) selection of middle eastern treats with a twist. Waiter had more attitude than menu has ingredients. Get over yourself. Hot eat spots in NYC no longer mean "I'm looking for abuse." Serve food. Smile. Don't take it all so seriously. We closed the place (12:30), but instead of politely waiting for us to finish coffee and dessert, service staff opened all doors (34 degrees) to give us not to subtle message."

  • "Lovely Lunch. Amish chicken cooked perfectly for salad"

  • "We had a terrific - if expensive - lunch for two at Cookshop. Seafood stew and a hearty salad - both delicious - proved a perfect break from a morning of visiting art galleries and an afternoon of theater. "

  • "Cookshop is good. Nice space. Good service. The food is good, but the portions are small. Some of us left hungry after apps and dinner."

  • "Couldn't sleep..Tried to figure out where to dine and remembered one of my faves Cookshop. At 6am Opentable made booking the reservation a simple breeze. Fell back to sleep confidant my dinner later that evening would be perfect and it was!"

  • "Menu looked promising but the food did not live up to the descriptions at all. Pity. It wasn't bad, just very blah and forgettable."

  • "This is our neighborhood favorite. We love how the menu changes often and reflects seasonal produce. Consistently excellent."

  • "We were in town for a long weekend with friends. We wanted a place to eat before a comedy club performance nearby. We found Cookshop online but knew nothing about it, really. We loved it: the atmosphere, the food, the drinks, and James, who is now our alltime favorite waitor. What a great start to a memorable weekend."

  • "Food and service were very good, however $7 for a double expresso is really out-of-line."

  • "This was my very first time coming to cook shop for lunch. Although I have been here a few times previously but it was only for brunch and breakfast. Every time you come the menu is different so you know the food is always fresh and delicious. Everyone is so wonderful and nice from the door to the waiter. The drinks are great and the food was wonderful truly gym that I'd recommend!"

  • "Loved the menu for a brunch but chaotic and so loud not sure I would go back."

  • "I am a regular customer at this restaurant, and was surprised at my first awful experience there. I was served raw pork(chop). The chop had grill marks, but that was it. After one bite I knew something was wrong! The manager did apologize, but the damage was done. I ended up getting my entree after everyone else at the table had finished. The promise of free desert was nice, but they still ended up on the bill. Talk about adding insult to injury!"

  • "Cookshop was a great place to celebrate my son's birthday. We did have to wait 10 minutes past our reservation, and because of that they provided complimentary bignets. The food was excellent from their brioche french toast to the borscht."

  • "Completely enjoyed our dinner at Cookshop. Our server, Alex, made the meal. and of course the food was delicious."

  • "Plan on an off-hour seating if you want to have a conversation with your dinner mates. Even 6:30 was a roaring din and one feels a bit like a sardine on a rush-hour A train."

  • "We had a lovely brunch at cookshop. The food was excellent. The chicken kale salad and heuvos rancheros were hits. The shrimp special was tasty but little awkward to eat with tortillas. The variety of bloody marys makes for some fun and the service was very attentive without being intrusive. All up, a great spot!"

  • "My go to spot for my out of town guests. After our perfect brunch, one had a voice of walking it off at the high line or Chelsea market. This place never let's me down none the less."

  • "Service, from reception to bartender to waitress to sommelier was knowledgeable, friendly and as it should be. All the dishes -- especially the octopus, cod and pork chop -- were excellent excepting only the scallops, which were good but not quite up to the standard of the other dishes -- reducing the food rating to 4 stars."

  • "A terrific restaurant for us two old friends to meet and enjoy a delicious breakfast Nearby the High line for a walk down town and then to the Chelsea Market for some shopping, all and all a wonderful way to start the day."

  • "Service is good. Second time, both times found food very bland and mismatch of flavors. They put smoked 'paprika' on EVERYTHING, my wife doesn't like that flavor and it was on 4 of the 5 things on the table and not mentioned on any on the menu. If it wasn't for the location then this place just would not last."

  • "Couldn't hear a think yet food was great! Thank you for great food and fun."

  • "Picked this restaurant on a whim. A friend and I wanted to grab dinner, i did some searches for times in Chelsea and fell upon this gem! The food was so fresh and well prepared. The wait staff was helpful with wine and dinner choices. We had the appetizer pizza with shredded brussel sprouts....SO GOOD!! We each ordered a different entree. we got the steak and the ham, both were crazy delicious and the portions were good too. All around this was a great spot. And for us a great find! We will definitely be back."

  • "It's little bit too crowded but space is large and food is great. Menu is slightly confusing to me but server is really kind so just ask them!"

  • "We had an enjoyable dinner. Table was waiting for the 4 of us. Everything is good but not outstanding. A good standby."

  • "This restaurant has tons of atmosphere without the attitude. The menu is interesting and the wine list gives you plenty to choose from. And the food is really good. Our waiter was a little slow on the uptake and patronizing, but that didn't put a dent in our experience. We had a terrific evening."

  • "Located a block from an entrance to the Hi Line, Cookshop is a popular place for weekend tourists. Very crowded and lively. You will need a reservation. Ask for a table in the back if possible because the front of the restaurant is very noisy. The food is fabulous - all farm to table organic and yummy. Great chopped liver and roasted carrot 'for the table' dishes. Hamburger is grass fed meat and delicious. Dessert of course, shouldn't be missed."

  • "I've been to Cookshop numerous times before but the service is not up to their usual standard. They didn't deliver service with a smile which I usually expect from this establishment. I'm not familiar with the current management but he didn't even say thank you for coming to the restaurant. I was beleaguered by what was happening around me. Saturday nights are suppose to be an energetic evening. Service is a reflection of a well established restaurant. It's not what it used to be..."

  • "I'm never disappointed when it comes to Cookshop. This farm-to-table Chelsea hot spot uses only the freshest ingredients for their menu that changes daily. I started with the most delicious wild mushroom soup and had the Arctic Char salad which had grapefruit. I left feeling satisfied but not stuffed. The place was pretty full at lunch time so I recommend making a reservation."

  • "A bright and modern decor, with bright and modern food. I had the lamb meatballs as an app which were perfectly prepared ! Beautiful people & wonderful staff !!!"

  • "Finally a foodie place conducive to talk. It looks casual at first glance but it's 4 star food with discreet service and acoustics."

  • "My three friends and I had a great time at brunch a few weeks ago. We were a sat within about 15 minutes of our reservation, which when the wait is over an hour, I can handle. Our server was incredibly nice and gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted to eat and drink, without seeming like he was ignoring us. The food was very good and the atmosphere is very energetic. It's definitely a great option for a group of friends to brunch and booze!"

  • "Took a foodie friend here for brunch. It was great! Our reservation was promptly honored. The service was excellent and friendly. Loved everything we ordered. Bacon, beignets, frittata and hue vows rancheros were particular hits. Would come back in a second. Always a fun and festive time!"

  • "Cookshop is very popular though it is nothing special. You won't go wrong by eating there, just expect the average."

  • "I would recommend Cookshop for the very good service and the celebrity watching. At lunch I sited 3 well known stars. I liked the menu but it didn't fulfilled it's promise. The fish soup was almost exclusively mussels but the flavones were good. Having said that I would return and order simple fare"

  • "We tried this restaurant for the first time for lunch. The food was very good & an excellent wine list with good value wines. Service was sometimes a bit slow & it was not always possible to get someone's attention. Overall though it was an enjoyable occasion."

  • "Came here for brunch. We were seated on time and the staff was friendly. The food here is really, really delicious. From what I could tell this is a place where everything is really well prepared and very good. Based on our orders I got the sense that all the food here excellent. I ordered the Cookshop Scramble with smoked trout--so good. The biscuit was off the hook. We started with the apple beignets and we not disappointed!"

  • "I went with my Swedish friend and we really liked the food, very tasty, and especially the non-alcohol cocktails. The ambient is enjoyable, not so bright but does not make you sleepy though. Music level fine to have a conversation without shouting."
