Diner Reviews
  • "Go for the food. Go for the fun atmosphere. Go for the great service. Just go! Our party of four was treated to a complimentary table dessert and despite that we chowed down on Mac & Cheese eggrolls and a wonderful Oyster/spinach/bacon/flatbread app and the yummiest entrees...the pork chop entree was a manly portion for our guys, the tuna perfectly prepared and the sweet potato ravioli just delightful with bursts of heavenly flavor, we all agreed that the brownie/marshmallow/chocolate chip cookie confection would be the perfect ending...and it was...thank you C&C for a most memorable eve...we'll be back!"

  • "My wife and I had the duck taco appetizer which was good. I had the scallops and my wife the ahi tuna. The portions were adequate but the scallops were good enough that I wish there had been more. Both our server and the managers seemed very eager to make sure everything went well. Overall a very good experience."

  • "We went for Saturday brunch. The Bloody Mary was excellent! We ordered a huge cinnamon roll to share at the table as an appetizer. The french toast was very good and hearty. Many things on the menu were unique and worth trying, so I'll definitely go back."

  • "I had dinner her with a couple girlfriends and we had a great time! We ordered a couple dishes to split and each item did not disappoint! The fried oyster fondue with the flatbread is amazing and I would recommend the sweet potato ravioli! So YUM! The drinks were also on point. Another great thing about Cook & Collins was the service. Our waitress was so nice and super energetic which can make all the difference when dining out. Even the manager stopped by out table to check on our meal and offered us a dessert since we were first timers! I will definitely come back here."

  • "Loved our dinner at C&C! It was a date night with two other couples and everything from the drinks to the appetizers to the entrees were delicious. We sat on the front patio area which gives you a great indoor/outdoor feel. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We had an amazing dinner, the service was impeccable (large group, 14) The food was delicious. I would highly recommend the potato smashers ( I think that was the name) AMAZING. Also they make a great bloodymary. I did not have a burger myself, but everyone that did, cleared their plate. That's my next choice."

  • "My daughter was looking for a fun brunch spot for herself and visiting family. Great Midtown location with menu of unique items. Order the flatbread with truffles! For the sweet tooth, start with the huge cinnamon roll, sprinkled with walnuts and bacon. Other items we ordered were very good but not special--eggs Benedict, Crabcake BLT, and omelets. Sunday brunch was very busy, so drink service was quite slow. We also thought the drinks had scant alcohol content. Waiter was very informed and friendly and did his best under the busy conditions. Loved the loft- inspired architecture and subway backslash with open shelving in bar area."

  • "I was very excited to try this place. The wine menu was varied and affordable, the energy in the restaurant was great, but the food was a let down. I had the Pork Porterhouse and it was so very bland. My friend had the scallops and it was just ok, nothing to write home about. May go back just for drinks and dessert."

  • "Flatbread pizza was excellent -- had the Party Fowl and a bottle of Pinot. Wine list is short but good selection. Started out with the crab roll, which was highly recommended, but I didn't really like it - it was too sweet, but finished it anyways. I would definitely come back for pizza and beer. They have valet which is great for that area."

  • "Flatbread and french-fries were easily the highlights of our order. Both were exceptional. The restaurant itself was tastefully done and comfortable. My only complaint is that management made no effort to ward off the persistent pan-handler that wandered up to us at the entrance as we were leaving."

  • "First of all, love the complimentary valet for the restaurant. Constantly paying for valet almost everywhere in Houston is pretty annoying and I always like finding a place that takes the hassle out of needing cash just to park your car in the parking lot. (of course, at least have a few bucks to tip) They have a decent beer selection and seem more focused on wine and specialty cocktails. I ordered a Jimmy Collins which was some sort of whiskey, lemon, honey cocktail much like a Gold Rush. It was good and ran about average price ($8 - $10) which was ok with me. My girlfriend and I decided to get an appetizer and split a pizza which was enough food altogether. I highly suggest getting the Red Eye Fries. Also, they have a cool reward system."

  • "This was our second time eating at Cook and Collins, and the kitchen seems to be working out their initial issues. Everything was much better, and hotter than the first time we ate here. Cocktails and the service are excellent."

  • "First two visits to Cook and Collins were impressive and showed promise. Sadly, this recent one was a complete 180 degrees. The onion soup was horribly over salted and the quinoa burger incredibly dry. Salad dressing also off base. Will have to give this place a rest as Houston is a very competitive restaurant market and there are numerous more reliable establishments. Too bad, as I thought it had a very good concept until this visit."

  • "The food was excellent, but the service was a bit spotty. We waited for quite a while before being attended to despite the place being far from full. Our waiter was friendly, but utterly confused when I pointed out that not only was had they misspelled the wine, but he was presenting an entirely different wine (from the same misspelled vineyard) than what was on the list. I elected to take that wine anyway (since he couldn't get a resolution to the situation), but we were given and charged for a full bottle when I ordered only two glasses. Luckily Houston is cork and carry so it wasn't a huge issue, but still just a bit frustrating. However, the atmosphere was great and our food was excellent. I'll go back, but hope for better service"

  • "A group of 6 of us went to dinner here before a concert at Toyota Center. Perfect choice. Hip scene, great food, great bar--fantastic service. The stand-outs were the french fries ( kid you not we arm wrestled for every last one), the hamburger, brussel sprouts! and mac-and cheese. This is a great place for casual/comfort food. Great for groups. Just a lot of fun and well worth your patronage."

  • "although the place seems a bit cold for some reason in its decor, the place softens up as you get used to it. the food is hearty and solid as well as tasty. Nothing to complain about with regards to the service either. All in all a positive experience."

  • "I just moved from nyc and this place is the closest I've found to something even remotely comparable. Great ambience, amazing decor, amazing food and all organic. I'm definitely going to be a regular now."

  • "Not as good as we were expecting. Heavy. My steak , ordered medium, came blue-rare. I sent it back and it came back like a shoe. The manager did apologize and took it off of our bill. Flat breads too thick and filling. Pretty outside and inside tho'..."

  • "My husband and I went to Cook and Collins for a Date night. We had reservations and were promptly seated upon arrival. The hostess who took our reservations Skylar, was sweet and very helpful. Our waiter was very attentive as well as the other wait staff. The general manager Chis was genuine and really friendly. The attentiveness we received was greatly appreciated. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS OUTSTANDING! Now for the food: I was speechleas after eating the C&C burger! EPIC is the only word that comes to mind. My husband had the Three Cheese burger which was also FANTASTIC! We had the brownie for dessert and it was SCRUMPTOUS! GREAT SERVICE AND EVEN GREATER FOOD! I CANNOT WAIT TO BRING MY FRIENDS TO COOK AND COLLINS!"

  • "I liked the place quite a bit. I thought the menu was very interesting. However the concepts worked better when read on the menu than the execution of them. The food was just a bit bland. I loved the concept of all their wines being offered by the glass. That said the wine list was one of the most stale and unimaginative lists I have seen. The staff was very friendly and professional and i really liked the space. With just a bit of improvement on the food and upgrades to the wine list this place would be great."

  • "We really enjoyed brunch at Cook & Collins. The place has a nice, relaxed feel and the staff was very friendly. I had the bbq brunch - pork belly with mac and cheese and a muffin and a blood mary. Everything was delicious. I am looking forward to trying the dinner menu soon."

  • "Outstanding service, great entrees and the wine prices/selection were good. That said, the menu and atmosphere were kind of odd. The entrees were more upscale, but the other offerings were bar like. Also, the bar seemed more like a mid-town bar than upscale dinning. The indoor patio also wasn’t the greatest because vehicle fumes were distracting. I highly recommend the duck and the meatloaf. The dessert was off, but that didn’t distract from a nice meal."

  • "Comments on things we didn't like: Parking, like most spots in the area, is a hassle...unless you valet. Did not have half and half for coffee. Could not just add beef to my salad, even though the waiter offered it initially. I would've needed to buy a big beef dish with a bunch of other items like eggs, etc. and then add a salad, which was so not the point. Waitstaff did not seem well-trained or professional enough for the image for which the restaurant seems to be going. Comments on things we did like: The space itself: we sat outside, but it was covered, so it was perfect. The food: our salads were delicious (I had the beet salad; my friend had a salmon salad...both were lovely)."

  • "On Sunday, February 23rd a group of 10 of us met for my Birthday Brunch at C&C! The atmosphere, service, and food could not have been better. I had the crab cake BLT which was fantastic. While I didn't have one, many at the table raved over the macaroni and cheese crab rolls. We will definitely be coming back!"

  • "This could potentially be the new hip place to be for 25-30 year olds. Food is ok. Vibe is cool for if you are meeting a few friends for dinner/drinks. Outside patio would be awesome if they served brunch. Downfall, the customer service. Our waiter was no where to be found. The restaurant is not that big so im surprised it took so long for him to make his rounds back to our table. The bus boy had to get our second round of drink orders and the extra ketchup we asked our waiter for. Overall i did like the vibe but i dont think i will be back. I am glad I tried this place out but nothing oh so spectacular about it except maybe if i was already in midtown meeting friends before a night out."

  • "C&C made my list of go to places. Food was great. no compliants from any of our party of 6. I had Mac & Cheese w crab fried. My wife took best honours wiwth the mushroom filled ravioli, Chicken was OK, nothing special, steak was awesome. C&C burger was great too. Drinks were fun and unusual, I RECOMMEND DEATH BY TOM. Only thing I didnt like was the upstairs patio. Might be nice on a summer evening when the curtaons are open but this week it was not open and the booths for 6 were a little uncomfortable and awkward for getting in aand out and a lot of reaching dueing servicce. The large group tables look fun for big parties, but when I go again, ill request downstairs. Cliental were young and lots of females. Good Girls night out place"

  • "Nice decor. Table for two was small requested a booth, but was told they had later reservations. The service was great, however the food was too salty. When we left, the two booths were still available."

  • "Wine was good, food mediocre. Parmesan crisp on the quinoa burger not 'crisp', in fact impossible to bite through or cut with a knife. French fries lukewarm. Will probably give it one more try if we are in the neighborhood in the hope that it is just teething problems."

  • "My husband and I dined here for lunch on President's Day. The waitress was attentive and helpful and answered any question we had. We started with the Angry Birds appetizer which was solid. I had the duck leg as my entree and it was phenomenal. All of the flavors worked perfectly together. My husband had the salmon which he liked as well. We would definitely return and highly recommend to others."

  • "Read about this gem shortly after it opened last month. Tried out brunch and it was amazing! The hardest part was deciding what to get but as I told our waiter, I'll just have to come back to try the other menu items. We all had the crab cake BLT and shared the Sinnaroll that had BACON icing. Sinful indeed!"
