Diner Reviews
  • "Delicious meal with wonderful service. The people at Convivium Osteria try very hard to make an evening out a pleasant one. The service was swift, attentive and professional. And, we enjoyed a particularly delicious bottle of wine. The only down part of the evening was visiting the room in the lower level. There was a weird smell which, fortunately, wasn't a problem since we were able to move to the cozier upstairs area. Hard to imagine anywhere better in the neighborhood, although it's probably worth a trip from Manhattan. Terrific place to eat before going to B.A.M. Great find!"

  • "We were in need of a good place to eat before an event at the Barclays Center, and I'm so glad we tried Convivium Osteria. We had a terrific window table. The service, food, and ambiance were all excellent. This will certainly be a go-to restaurant when in Park Slope."

  • "You can never tell from the outside how big this restaurant really is. Tables on 3 different floors with a very calm and romantic setting. Food & service was outstanding."

  • "I've been a regular at Convivium for years! Always a wonderful experience and consistent! Not one dish on their menu that I haven't tried and that I wouldn't reorder. Little pricey but definitely worth it."

  • "We went for dinner a on a Sunday. It was quiet as we were there for an early dinner. The waiter was extremely helpful and nice. We asked a lot of questions and he seemed to know what he was talking about. We were surprised he knew exactly what was in every dish. He was excellent to help us find a good wine. We went there to try it before deciding if it would be the restaurant of our wedding dinner. The food was great, so was the wine. And they have excellent port wines. Our choice is made: we love it!"

  • "Always a gastronomic treat, although Amex is the only charge card they accept and the menu is pricey!"

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Convivium Osteria on Saturday. We had an early 6:00 pm reservation and were quickly seated at the table for two in the front window. If you like people-watching, it would be the table for you. The decor is rustic and cozy, without being cheesy. The lighting was dim and there was a candle at each table. Our server knew the menu by heart and was able to offer suggestions. We had a bottle of Sicilian Cabernet Sauvignon for $100 that retails for $40. It was excellent. The food was simply prepared, which is my preference. The octopus and the whole shrimp appetizers were delicious, as were the rabbit and the Mediterranean sea bass entrees. I'm sure we'll be back to sample more of the menu."

  • "I was pleasantly surprised how delicious everything was from the appetizers to the desserts. We had great authentic Spanish wine that was just right. The seafood salad was a big portion enough to share for 4. We ordered the steak for two it was fantastic and big enough for 4 if we knew. The flour less chocolate cake was the best guilt free dessert i had in a long time. Recommended and will come back for sure."

  • "This restaurant gave the complete dining experience that I always hope for but seldom encounter: the rustic beauty of the decor that begins at the front door carries through to every facet of the meal — tables, settings, menu, plating, taste — all thoughtfully designed and carefully executed to feel natural and unfussy. Ironic? Maybe. But It all contributes to a very pleasurable low-key elegance and the vibe in the room was that of a lot of happy people. But we came for the food and it was all pure deliciousness. Green Apple Cinnamon Ravioli with Duck Ragu, Spinach Ricotta Gnudi, Pinenut Crusted Lamb Chops — our table of 4 shared a feast and lover it all."

  • "The positives: 1) Food was amazing 2) Ambiance was amazing Cons: 1) We were practically serving ourselves. I had to ask multiple times for a drink and to order. The waiters seemed more interested in talking to each other and hanging out at the bar than serving the delicious food."

  • "The service at this restaurant is exceptional. We welcomed the attentive replenishment of water as well as the recommendations of the dishes. The wine selection is very good. We were a party of four. Our dishes were excellent - two of us had the same dish, noodles with veal ragu, and our companions enjoyed the rabbit and a ravioli dish. The chicken liver appetizer was interesting and well presented. The tuna tartare was delicious."

  • "charming place. had pasta and veal ragu --- unbelievable"

  • "I started witht he grilled octopus which was perfect. A little heavy on the raw onion, but you don't have to eat all of that. The octupus itself was charred nicely and had the texture that octopus should have. It wasn't chewy at all. Tender, sweet and flavorfull. Then had the pasta special, can't remember what the pasta was called but it was essentially a shorter version of pappardelle with a pork sausage ragu. The pasta was fresh and had a nice bite - cooked perfect al dente. The ragu had great, robust flavors that really shined. Finshed with the Vanilla panacotta wtih blueberry compote - outstanding! Will definitely be back. You should eat here."

  • "Such a great find. The place is pleasing to the eye and the palate. The service was attentive but not intrusive. All of the food was great. Both appetizers of the clams and the artichokes were delicious. The prawn appetizer was tasty but nothing special. Entrees and desserts were flavorful and satisfying. Would come back again when we are in the area."

  • "Excellent food! One of the best meals I've had in NYC. The dining area is separated into sections and the first section is quite small and cramped. They only take Amex which is also inconvenient."

  • "Seated in the downstairs wine cellar, our party of seven was beautifully cared for throughout our meal. Food, as always, was excellent. The wait staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful, never hovering but immediately accessible. An order for steak for twodid not come out on time. Our waiter apologized, and then the owner bought us a beautiful bottle of Barola, and decanted it at our table. When the steak arrived, it was a bit underdone and it was the waiter who said "This is not right," and returned to the kitchen. (The steak was delicious!) Complimentary desserts arrived, no steak appeared on the bill. Mikel Colameco chided Brooklyn restaurants for poor "front of house" service--Convivium is an exemplar of the BEST service."

  • "I gave Convivium only 4 stars for ambiance because we (party of 2) were seated in the way back amidst some large parties. That was fine; the back room is very nice, cozy yet ideal for large get-togethers, but the front room is the 5 star location to be seated - soft light, quieter, and very romantic - and you can't be 100% satisfied knowing that you could have requested the beautiful little table for 2 in the window. But really, in the front room, Convivium is gordeous!"

  • "Great food and lovely quaint ambiance. Not the typical Brooklyn hip, felt more like being in a small town in Italy. Will definitely return."

  • "We looked forward to our return to Convivium Osteria and we're not disappointed. They had the same Nero d'Avola wine but from 2011 not 2008. The wine was great but did not match to the fabulous 08. I loved my chicken liver appetizer and my husband loved his artichoke. The ravioli with tart apple and cinnamon and duck ragu was delicate. My husband enjoyed his Red Snapper. I felt transported to Italy. Lovely space decorated with pans. The wait staff was very efficient."

  • "My first visit but definitely not my last. Usually ratings can be slightly exaggerated, however this is far from such. The service was wonderful, the rabbit was fantastic and the decor made me feel as if I were home. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to truly relax and enjoy a great meal."

  • "The food was good but the restaurant was too crowded. I realize it was a Saturday night but I got the impression they wanted a quick turnover of seats. The service was adequate; I thought the waiter had an attitude that was not conducive to a pleasant dining experience. With dessert they only had expresso available - no cappucino or latte or regular coffee and the dessert was the least tasty of the courses. I would recommend the restaurant with these reservations and suggest they go on any other night of the week."

  • "When one steps into Convivium thru the black curtain you step into a warm European space. Terrific staff greets you quickly but makes you feel you may stay all night. Food was well priced and delicious. The presentation of the food was beautiful and the taste was wonderful. We highly recommend the ravioli. Wine list was well done."

  • "We love dining there! Besides all the positive things described above, we feel it's a real neighborhood restaurant. Sergio & his staff have been working at Convivium for a long time, it's nice to see the same faces, this gives us a great reason to always come back. We adore most of the dishes."

  • "Great place with a nice menu I want to keep going back to. The dishes we had - a carpaccio of Branzino with salad; gnudi; and two different rabbit dishes - were all excellent. Great service - professional and knowledgeable, and speed when we requested it (we had theatre tickets). go there!"

  • "Took a couple of friends here at their suggestion as a thank you for using their guest room and also a birthday celebration. We brought a bottle of very fine wine from their cellar, which the staff noticed and remarked on. We chose to order glasses of a different wine to start. Later when we wanted to open the bottle (we offered happily to pay any corkage fee they wished) we were coureously but firmly told that the owner would not permit outside wine. The owner was not there and not reachable. Our frustration could have been reduced or avoided had we been informed of this policy when we arrived with the bottle. This was not the first time we had been to this restaurant, though it was the first time we'd brought our own wine."

  • "This place has great old world ambiance but the food while very old world could use some updating. The plating is not very good and of 3 of us, only my dinner was good. Service was good, room is great, I wish the food was better and less expensive."

  • "My Fiance and I went here for Valentines day, requested a table in the wine cellar and it was delivered!! We had an amazing time, the waiter and service staff were impeccable, right level of attention and personal time. The food was great, the quail appetiser, the red snapper and the special (pork ribs fell off the bone, the taste was delish). Thank you for a great night out - something we will remember."

  • "Went with two other couples on Valentine's Day. The restaurant is beautiful and the food was great. I'm the designated closer at the table, so I tasted everybody's appetizers and mains. The chicken livers and octopus were outstanding. The lamb had a great crust. Even my simple veal ragu on pappardelle was very, very tasty. I chose a wine which was unavailable, but the waiter recommended a similar one which was delicious."

  • "I took a special someone for a birthday dinner on a Sunday night. I enjoyed the experience very much. The service from the start was very personal and attentive. The food was exquisite. We got the Artichoke appetizer...perfectly cooked. I got the fish/fettuccine special and the bf got the veal Pappardelle. Both were very good. For dessert we got the Pinenut Tart and the panacotta. The Pinenut tart is a must-have!"

  • "My wife and I had a couple of hours to kill in Brooklyn until the Nets game ended, so we tried Convivium Osteria. What a great find. The service is impeccable, the food authentic and extremely tasty. Lots of wine options to choose from. We will now go out of our way to find more ways to "waste time" in Brooklyn here."

  • "Except for the fact that it's difficult to get a reservation without very ample notice, Convivium is always excellent. The octupus is delicious -- tender and tasty as is the pasta and fish. Recommended without reservation (pun intended)."
