CommunalGreat ConceptSustainable foods from local partners, great location in downtown Provo, ambiance, great food well-prepared and great service make this "communal" dining experience memorable.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you for a great Father's DayMy Dad and Brother flew in from New Jersey. My brother is a foodie and lives in New York where food is a constant topic of conversation for us on the phone. Thank you for great service, great food, and a great place to take my Dad for Father's Day! And my brother thought your short ribs were the best he has ever had, highest compliment you could receive!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMCommunal - Love it!! :)We love dining at Communal! The food is always excellent and the service outstanding! :)6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprising FindNot knowing Provo at all, we stumbled upon Communal almost by accident, after 9:00pm on a Friday evening. Wow, starting with the Farrow/Kale salad, which was bursting with flavor, and then pork belly, which was simply incredible (moist, tender, favorful). Finished the meal off with coconut cream pie and a French-pressed Charming Beard coffee. There was nothing not to love with this meal. The wait person, Andrew is a pro. Articulate, he knew the menu inside and out, and was passionate about the place. So again, what a pleasant, surprising find.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are in Provo one weekendWe are in Provo one weekend a month and always stop by Communal for Saturday brunch. We try to sit at the bar so we can watch the chefs at work. The menu is unique and always changing. Sometimes we're sad when something we've really enjoyed disappears from the menu, but it's fun to try something new and different!5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMhip, clever, & charming! We had heard it was fantastic. We'd been busy. Finally, with the sale of our home, we went out to celebrate at Communal. With the fabulously charming and attentive Andrew as our waitperson, sublimely complex yet made-for-sharing dishes, and ambiance for days, Communal has overtaken every other "fine dining" option in Utah County, even one of our long time favorites (up the canyon). Do yourself a favor ... and often ... by dining at Communal!!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat mealThe food was fantastic and the service was great. We sat in the private dining room in the back so it was easy to carry on a conversation. Loved it. Look forward to going again.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMy go to restaurant in ProvoGreat food. Great service. Great dining experience.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMYum, YumAs always delicious. The food is well-prepared delicious - the sides (potato gratin; roasted asparagus; kale salad with grains - all special). The service was very good. To my mind THE ONLY decent place to eat in PROVO/OREM.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHeirloom Group Delivers Once Again... Great fresh food, great service, great ambiance.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMA hidden gem in Provo. Not often you find a restaurant like Communal and it is even less often....rare, to find it in Provo. Simple, organic, fresh and unique food choices served in a bright warm setting. Love the big communal tables, rustic feel and all the natural light from the full walls of windows. Great for a business lunch, romantic dinner or a fun group. I haven't had this quality of food in such a nice setting for such reasonable prices. I must go to if you are within an hours drive of Provo.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother excellent dining experienceI've eaten here plenty of times and each time it's the tops. I honestly think you couldn't go wrong with any item on the menu. These people know good food! Couldn't think of a better place to come for a delicious meal, always looking for an excuse to check out the ever changing menu!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMSo many yummy choicesWe went for Saturday brunch and it was delish. We loved the atmosphere and the choices. A bit on the pricer side for brunch, though. But well worth it.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ate at Communal for ourWe ate at Communal for our anniversary and were so pleased with how delicious the meal was! The meals are served family style and are to be shared between two or more, however I think the portions are barely enough for two and I would not plan on sharing between more than two adults. The main protein and accompanying sides really complimented each other well and we were really glad we dined here.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, but priceyWe enjoyed our meal as a family. The flavors are something to remember and based on that, I would go again. The service was very good. Our beverages were filled constantly. The food came out quickly and was the perfect temperature. My only gripe is the portions tend to be small. We were told the portions were larger and perfect for family style dining. Once we received our food I was surprised to see how small the portions were for the price we were paying. This really reminded me of a small plates restaurant. We have eaten at small plates before in D.C. and Chicago and find their flavors rival with the big city, but not the prices. Even in the big cities we paid less for our small plate portions. Great for couples, not families.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here was absolutelyThe food here was absolutely delicious. Every single item we ordered on their brunch menu was to-die-for good. I recommend brunch for everyone and anyone.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMcame for graduation dinnercame for graduation dinner and it exceded my expectations! exceptional variety of flavors and colors. The atmosphere was fun and friendly. We had the pork tenderloin, roasted artichoke, grilled asparagus, and mac n cheese with the peanut chocolate moose for dessert. Let me tell you I really don't like pork, but I looooved it!!!4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMCommunal delivers on its nameCommunal delivers to its name. We shared each course with our group of 6. The pork, salmon and sides like mac & cheese, we enjoyed by all. We always enjoy.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFarm to Table--a great find!Farm to table, creative menu, lots of variety and a very pleasant wait staff. Just be sure to get reservations. This place is hopping!
We were so glad to find Communal after struggling to find interesting places for dinner in this region. I guess it helps to be in a college town!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food has never disappointedThe food has never disappointed us at Communal. Sometimes if there's a big group close by (especially if it's a family) it can get noisy. But that's part of the charm and ambiance and as long as you go there knowing there can be an energy level in the place, you'll enjoy the experience.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI love Communal because II love Communal because I feel like I've suddenly left Provo behind and stepped into another city, or even another country. The staff is friendly, and very responsive and professional. I also love that I'm able to support the local community in such an enjoyable way. I can't afford to go often, but when I can it's definitely a treat. I feel comfortable lingering and talking instead of being rushed on my way. The atmosphere is conducive to conversations more interesting than discussing the hottest celebrities. We need more places like this in the area.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMCome to Communal - a great Provo trThe food at Communal is terrific. The food is locally grown and delicious. Plus, who raves about chicken? The chicken with mash is a guilty pleasure. The staff is great and the setting is friendly. This is a very favorite spot for me.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed such an incredibleWe enjoyed such an incredible dinner! DEFINITELY worth a trip to Provo. We shared several dishes and all were delicious! Our favorites, if we had to choose, from the meal: Farro, salmon, trout, pork, mac & cheese, brussels sprouts and rhubarb cake.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMFun restaurantGet one of the rare bar seats, if you can. There are only three places, but it's awesome watching the chef, (Vance in the Spring of 2013), do his stuff.
The food is excellent and the ambience is very open and friendly.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMCommunal is amazing. We alwaysCommunal is amazing. We always have a perfect meal.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMMany delicious menu choicesMany delicious menu choices and great service. The trout was especially wonderful, as were the brussel sprouts and polenta. The peanut butter chocolate dessert was delectable. Very accommodating to our special food prep requests. We had a great experience and can't wait to go back again.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch is betterWe've been here many times for breakfast and brunch, but really found their dinner a bit over-rated. We ordered the fish and several appetizers and sides as well including macaroni & cheese, mushroom tart and sweet potato gratin.
The fish was pretty good, but the mushroom tart was extremely greasy and left me feeling a bit gross. It was also drizzled with balsamic which is annoying, because my wife doesn't like to eat food with alcohol-based products and it wasn't mentioned on the menu.
The price was surprisingly reasonable for one of utah county's fanciest dining spots, but overral we weren't too impressed with the food. Maybe I'll try the steak next time....or just stick with brunch.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food. Noise levelAmazing food. Noise level was loud and had a hard time hearing others at my table.2/28/2013 12:00:00 AM
