Commonwealth - San FranciscoNice evening celebrationWith my husband to celebrate Fathers Day- we were seated quickly at our reservation time.
Peas: A+
Pork belly: A+
Lamb Cheeks: A
Oysters: elegant A+
We recommend 3-4 dishes per person as we ordered 8 as a couple and were too full for dessert.
Service was very nice, engaged in light conversation, yet efficient.
Food was very thoughtful and made for a very special evening.
Thank you Commonwealth- this was a great way to say thank you to my husband and wonderful father to my children!6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovativeGood food, creatively presented. Lots of folks taking
food pictures. That's a tacky trend.
Portions a tad small but quality trumps.6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMCommonwealth for the people!Thoroughly enjoyed our night out at Commonwealth. Food was outstanding, original and exciting. We chose the set menu with wine pairing and were absolutely blown away. Service was excellent! We will definitely be back!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply one of the best restaurantsSimply one of the best restaurants operating in San Francisco at a high level today.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMParty of 3 Loved CommonwealthI went to Commonwealth (first time) with two out-of-town visitors. It's an experimental place, but good. I'd go back in a second.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMmodern food for modern peopleThis was my second time at Commonwealth. Their food is always outstanding not only for the taste but also for the eyesight. I highly recommend to try their chef's tasting menu with wine pairing. Right wines for right food!5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMsophisticated foodI had heard good things about Commonwealth but we were surprised and delighted by the unusual combinations of ingredients and presentation. Everything was excellent with two particular stars; the peas with tapioca and squid with pork belly.
We dined while the sun was still out and found the atmosphere to be fine but this place is definitely about the food. I hope they keep it that way - you can have a truly special meal without breaking the bank!5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBest fine-dining value in the BayCan't pass up the $70 tasting menu. Even at that low price, $10 goes to their charity of the month!
This is fabulous food. I think it's terribly fair that they don't have a Michelin star. Perhaps Michelin's problem is the location in the Mission, with graffiti tags visible on the windows. The food is as good as the best one-star restaurants in town.
Loved the smoked trout. And the sweetbreads. The celery sorbet in verjus was very refreshing, and the chocolate-covered peanut-butter semifreddo was killer (as usual - it's been the dessert on the tasting menu all five times we've gone to Commonwealth.) Presentation is beautiful, flavors exquisite. The chef really likes to play with different textures and temperatures, which is fun.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThe foodThe menu was interesting and had small selection so it's easy to try almost everything. The food was good but I simply was not impressed. Parts of the dishes were amazing but together the parts did not flow. Great desserts and wine list.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBlown awaySuch an inventive and amazing meal - Commonwealth continues to blow my mind. The preparations were just perfect - as a group of 4 we ordered the whole menu - including dessert! - as every single dish on it was beckoning. The wines were outstanding as well - we're so glad they were able to pair and choose for us.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFrantastic food, great tasting menuLove this place, fun and happening.
Staff was very friendly and accomidating.
We did the tasting menu, it was perfectly timed and fantastic food.
One of best meals I ever had.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent! WhatThe food was excellent! What was slightly disappointing and even annoying was our server's attitude. She did everything she should have done, but with an odd edge/attitude. My out-of-town guests and I noticed it from our very first interchange with her, and there were several other instances throughout the meal. This was in contrast to the last time I was at Commonwealth, when the server was exceptionally warm and helpful. But despite this, overall we had a good experience because of the delicious and interesting food.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely one of my favoriteDefinitely one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco that I like to hit up when I am in town. The menu is creative using modern techniques without hitting you over the head with it, all the while taking advantage of the great product that the Bay area has to offer. The wine pairings are well thought out and exciting for the wine geeks, but at the same time the knowledgeable staff are helpful for the novices as well. I recommend the tasting menu ($10 is donated to a worthy cause), as well as sitting at the chef's counter to check out the action.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA find!Couldn't do better! The food is wonderful, the price for what you get is extremely reasonable! It's a real gem!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful meal atWe had a wonderful meal at Commonwealth. It was the most creative and delicious food we have had in a long time.
I had the sunflower and asparagus risotto, I was surprised when it arrived - there was no rice in it - the chef had used sunflower seeds instead of rice - it was soooo delicious!!!WIll go there again, soon.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe menu is small (and soThe menu is small (and so are the portions) but every bite is fabulous. We ordered everything on the menu except for two dishes, which was a great amount to share with 3 people. Definitely a spot for a special occasion. Highly recommend.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding meal. InnovativeOutstanding meal. Innovative food and presentation4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals I'veOne of the best meals I've ever had. Rivals Grammercy Tavern (NYC). Tasting menu is a must. Everything was exoticly prepared and delicious.4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently Fantastic! We had another wonderful meal at Comnmonwealth. We took our friends from Paris who loved it. Exceptional food, warm, but not cloying service and interesting wines. Another very enjoyable evening. Everything was excellent, but the celery-verjus sorbet really stood out.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the tasting menu. VeryHad the tasting menu. Very good & beautiful. The feel and vibe are very pleasant. It's a distinctly urban feel but lovely and hip all at the same time. The server we had was knowledgable, lead us towards the menu highlights when we asked. He made excellent wine pairing suggestions and the food was fine dining quality of the very best at moderate prices. I have worked in the restaurant business for the last 25 years traveling and in and out of 6000+ restaurants in that time; Commonwealth is now in my top top 10 list globally.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner. The vibe isGreat dinner. The vibe is hip and the entire staff couldn't be more friendly. Can't wait to go back!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNeed to get some wines thatNeed to get some wines that are more reasonably priced on the wine menu3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't miss Commonwealth.I didn't know what to expect and I was taken by surprise. Jason Fox is a talent not to be missed.3/11/2013 12:00:00 AMVery "interesting" food ....Very "interesting" food .... Unique combinations of flavors. The descriptions read like lists of ingredients rather then menu entries but the tastes are good. Not at all for hardy eaters. This is our second time and although we really enjoyed it we will wait a while before returning ....2/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and great service.Great food and great service.
