  • "We are from ny and have gone to most top restaurants there, this easily competes with them. We did the tasting with wine pairings and it was great. They even offered to make changes to a tasting menu which is VERY rare. Everyone there did a great job and it made for one of the best meals we ever had. GO!! Note: We took a cab there and back. It didn't seem like the type of area you want to walk around in after dinner."

  • "I had never been to Commonwealth, but had heard fantastic reports, so I made it the destination for our anniversary dinner. I could not have chosen better. Each dish was interesting, surprising, amazingly fresh and flavorful, and presented beautifully. The wines, too, were stellar - in fact I've never had a better wine pairing experience. There was none of the "we're food snobs" preciousness that sometimes comes in the foodie territory either. Just a genuine talented chef and staff who share what they do generously. Wow. Thank you Commonwealth for a memorable meal."

Very much in the molecular gastronomy vein, but not as playful with the puns or deconstruction/reconstruction just for the sake of it.   • "I love tapas but most of the food was bland and lacked flavor profile that is required of a small dish. I ordered among many other dishes, chicken.My chicken was very different from my sons. I put my glasses on to take a closer look. It was raw and pretty scabby. To her credit the waitress saw this scene as she was passing by and said ( without me saying a word )" I should take that back to the kitchen." It was the perfect response. Sadly she came back with a note from the chef to say that that " this chicken dish should look that way and I should expect the replacement dish to look the same. I felt reprimanded and I had not even opened my mouth to say one word. The replacement dish was very different! I was cooked."

  • "If you're on a budget, I would think twice before dining here. They recommend three plates per diner, which I didn't realize when deciding that I would take my partner here as a treat. The plates are small and delicious. It's the sort of fancy food that tastes gorgeous, but doesn't fill you up. Despite two main plates each, and two shared desserts, we still felt hungry when leaving and ended up stopping for pupusas later. If you aren't on a budget, and want something that is a glorious taste sensation, then this is absolutely the place for you! I would suggest following their recommendation of three plates each."

  • "It s a very nice and modern restaurant, like I enjoy going to. We were very surprised that the staff was not that friendly, even kind of condescending. But since we were there tho enjoy a nice dinner among friends, we decided to concentrate on the essential....the food is excellent and so different from anything we have expected. Every dish is a mix of varied and extraordinary original flavors. I would go back just because I haven't had that variation of tastes and rare food combination for a long time."

  • "I sat at the bar staring at the dessert station and ordered the tasting menu with wine pairing. The fromage blanc had a superb wine pairing! Taste of the carrots dish. It was SOOO good. Who knew carrots and quinoa could be a guilty pleasure. Celery sorbet with verjus soda - sour then celery then sweet. It was totally refrshing, like I want it on a hot day. Received a taste of the beet dessert. I loved it when I hit the salt. I was happy to finally taste the golf ball-looking thing that I kept seeing get made in front of me. Beer meringue - This dessert was another reminder that throughout the entire meal, there was a wonderful amount of intention with every bite. There is purpose for everything. I would go back in a heartbeat."

The heck was super fishey and the other stuff interesting and new. Go to this place only if you want a unique and experimental food experience. The wine list looks very interesting.   • "My husband and I had an incredible Tasting menu at this out of the way place in a vibrant yet dodgy neighbourhood in San Francisco. Coming from out of town, we found this place via an internet search and made reservations before we left home. Not withstanding the characters outside, the food was fantastic! For $75 each (half the price of Toronto tasting menus), we had delicate and delectable courses and still very satisfying. Service was excellent and attentive. Would highly recommend a visit!"

  • "It was one of the worst restaurants we tried for a long time. Food was tasteless, portions are tiny. After first three dishes we wanted to get up and go to any other restaurant but felt awkward to do so. We stayed to the end. We had Pickled herring, sea urchin, dumplings, smoked sablefish and hake. Can't say a good word about any dish. We were very happy that we did not order anything else. It was very disappointing experience. Whole dinner lasted less than an hour. The only memorable thing was the multiple change of silverware."

  • "the food is not your everyday fare, it is not for someone who wants a basic meal, it is vibrant and exciting. It can sometimes miss, but it will always amaze. The WOW factor here is off the charts. Did I know I could like sea urchin? Did I know you could have a mussel amuse bouche that made you realize what mussels really tasted like. A parsnip soup with nutmeg creme fraiche was heavenly. I loved the dish of baby carrots (carrots glazed in their own juices, jerusalem artichoke curd, whey, quinoa, burnt hay) which was not only totally flavorful, but gorgeous on the plate. Look at the menu and if it piques your interest, you'll love it. Otherwise, it might not be the right place. But if it's right for you, you'll be a fan forever."
