I live in the neighborhood and
Commonwealth is definitely my favorite place to frequent - it always delivers on food and the staff are very friendly and easy on the eye ;) Highly recommended to all!"

I've been to brunch there a couple
of times and were pleased with the food each time. Odd how they take reservations, though, when you can't get a certain time, but at the restaurant it's 3/4 empty. Food is always good and portions are huge for brunch. Lots of sunlight and fresh air when they can open the windows/doors. Service is always just average, but it's never been a problem. Overall, a good experience and we will continue to go back and recommend it to others."

Our food was delicious as were our
drinks, our waiter was also friendly and helpful. It was a great experience the only disapointment was dessert, but we still really enjoyed it overall."
Dined on 6/26/2014
loved everything, the scallops for
me, flat iron steak for him, cheesy polenta and swiss chard."

Went for lunch this week and sat
outdoors. Wonderful view of the small canal and the city in the distance. Food was very good-- nice selection of salads and sandwiches. Food was fresh and well presented. Waitstaff very accommodating and pleasant."

Saturday night supper with some
business colleagues of my husband's. We had not been to Commonwealth but chose it for its proximity to our apartment. We were seated at a corner table inside, making for a relatively quiet setting. Commonwealth's unique menu has individual entrees but the appetizers and sides are served family style. This was explained by our helpful waiter. The 5 of us ordered 3 appetizer/salads and 3 sides which was plenty. We all had seafood which was fresh and well prepared. Most of us had only water to drink and glasses were refilled regularly. It's moderately expensive- average for the area. Great outdoor seating area and nice drinks menu including some interesting options without alcohol."

I came for lunch with my coworkers
and had a great experience! Everyone enjoyed the menu, and the food was delicious. The service and ambience are fantastic. I truly look forward to returning for drinks and dinner with friends and will certainly be back to visit the market and stock up on treats and fresh produce!"
Dined on 6/19/2014
Farm to table food was good.
Select menu includes soft shell crabs, local oysters, cheese polenta, red snapper."

wanted a place for brunch to then
hit the charles for some kayaking. i had read good brunch reviews for commonwealth and decided to come here since they're in the same square, but they're actually like 10 feet away from each other!so perfect. we sat outside, got unbelievably good bread pudding french toast (and i'm more of a savory girl), as well as awesome chicken and biscuits. highly recommend"

Decent overpriced food with
mediocre service. Half of the staff was friendly, waiter was not. Pricey. Food tastes fine - but you would expect to get more than 4 pieces of salad and 4 fries with a sandwich. Ice cream is $5 for a scoop,$2 for hot fudge and $2 for whipped cream =$9 for a tiny sundae. So disappointing."

Neat décor, good food and friendly
bartender. A nice addition to Kendall Square."

We had a terrific experience at
Commonwealth. We made our reservation on Open Table and requested a window table which they had arranged. We each had cocktails (great fun / and the Sangria was excellent). The wine list was also good – and most impressively affordable. The service was friendly, helpful and patient. I think the interior design is very thoughtful and comfortable. We had the clam chowder and the rest of us tried different salads. I had the beat salad which was tender, fresh and absolute perfection. For our main meals – the chicken, fish and duck were excellent. We couldn’t manage room for the Happy Ending tray – but we had the peanut butter and jelly / and an assortment of others ice creams. Don't miss the Commonweatlth"

A great local eatery. Terrific
wait staff and a really excellent assortment of comfort foods, prepared excellently and presented in eminently sharable form. For those who want to dig into the finger foods, the fact that the napkins are dish towels will be a blessing. Went there on an impulse after walking by and had a great time. We'll certainly be back!"

I don't mind paying a lot for a
good meal, but it has to be good and satisfying. While the food was good, the service was horrendous and it's a rip off. Our waiter showed up after 15 minutes and said I'm here - no intro, apology for the wait. Didn't take our order for another 15 minutes. Order a main that doesn't come with anything but is priced like a meal. Got about a cup of steamed snow peas for$9. Most disappointing was dessert - $5 for a small single scoop of ice cream with nothing on it. Not worth it at all. "

This is the second time we have
tried Commonwealth. I keep wanting it to be a great foodie place but the main dishes fall a bit short. I have not tried the fish yet so perhaps that is what i should order if there is a next time. So far i have tried the pork chop, lamb steak and flatiron steak. All were less than great and a bit tough or dry. The other parties crab was just ok. On the other hand all the vegetables are always flavorful and cooked just right. ALso, my clam chowder was one of the best i have ever had. The deserts of ice cream and brownie was fantastic. Load up on apps, veggies, and desert I think you will have fun here. I love the location. Fun to walk around in the vibrant square."

This was our second time at the
Commonwealth Market for Brunch. A short but very fun menu. The Sticky Bun with Bacon is a great start to share with the table an all four of us enjoyed or four brunch items. The Bloody Mary with a pickle spear was outstanding."
Dined on 5/25/2014
We sat at the table for 10 minutes
before flagging down a waiter to order drinks and appetizers. About 45 minutes after our appetizers came, we again had to flag down the waiter to order our entrees, which took 45 minutes to arrive. The food was good, but overpriced. The $25 entrees do not come with a vegetable or side of any sort- but you do have the opportunity to purchase those for an additional $9. With organic carrots being about $1.50/lb at the grocery store or farmer's market, you might expect to receive a bounty of carrots for that price. But you won't. Good food, but not worth the price or time you must forfeit to eat it. "

I was looking forward to
Commonwealth as the possibility of a good local restaurant without the frou frou of a farm-to-table angle, or something else cute, just good food. So many overpriced restaurants have popped up in Kendall Square over the last 3 years that fit this bill. Unfortunately, Commonwealth is another one. Nothing spectacular about their food when I went there for dinner recently. But the service is top notch...pleasant and attentive. "

This was our first family visit
for brunch and it was very good. We started out with cinnamon sticky buns with bacon on top and cornbread. Both were warm and delicious. We all had different dishes and everyone was very pleased. I would highly recommend brunch to anyone who would like to try something different. Great job by all."
Dined on 5/18/2014
Pricy for what it is. Food is good
but execution needs work."
Dined on 5/13/2014
We had a tough first go here a few
weeks ago so we decided to give it another chance and we were glad we did! The salads were interesting and tasty and the dinners were yummy! Our service was great too! So glad we tried again!"
Dined on 5/9/2014
Brunch was delicious. Noise level
way too high for conversation which is too bad. I've also had dinner here and I think the side prices are too high. Brunch is priced just right for me."
Dined on 5/4/2014
First impression: I love the
aesthetics! The rustic theme was inviting and homey. Love the recycled panels, the open, airy quality and the soft lighting. To start, I ordered the Bourbon Crusta, which was flavorful and elegant. My fellow diners ordered Sangrias. We were all satisfied with our choices, since we each ordered the same drink for our second round. We ordered the cheese plate as an appetizer. It was left to our server to recommend a plate since there were no descriptions on the menu. We all agreed that our dishes were incredibly delicious, yet very expensive. $9 for asparagus?? My fellow diners decided against an entree because of the expense of the sides and the vegetables. The price just didn't match the meal. "

Nice brunch place, tucked away in
back of Kendall Sq. Mix of dishes for the hungry and the nibblers. Could use better coffee, but that's true for most restaurants."
Dined on 4/27/2014
We had a wonderful time, service
was good and the menu interesting. Please do something about your napkins. Lint was everywhere, white lint on black clothes is not the look I was wanting on my date."
Dined on 4/26/2014
Small portions, expensive
deconstructed menu items, salad and glass of wine were ok. Too many good restaurants in Cambridge - give this one a miss!"
Dined on 4/26/2014
Kendal Square is bursting with
restaurants lately but Commonwealth stood out with a fresh, local menu and really good food without the fuss. Some of the best chowder, oysters, and other simple food preparations done right."
Dined on 4/22/2014
The atmosphere was perfect. They
spaced out reservations perfectly so it wasn't too loud or crowded like I would have expected for brunch on Easter. The food was amazing and we all ate more then we should have. The sticky buns was delicious and large enough to split between a group of people, and the homemade donuts with strawberry rhubarb jam filling were to die for. If I hadn't tried them at the end of the meal I would not have eaten anything else, and I am not a donut person. "
Dined on 4/20/2014
My husband and I had brunch here
on Easter. We were very impressed with the service on such a busy day. Our server was attentive and prompt and the food was delicious. We will definitely return."
Dined on 4/20/2014
Loud. And music playing on top of
loudness. Hard to hear others at my table. The whole meal was oh so slow -- 3 hours for 3 courses. Yes the place was busy on a Friday night, but it's not like the kitchen spends a lot of time arranging items on the plates. It's just protein on the plates and pass-around sides. (sides are overpriced - $9 for a few roasted carrots? a dozen spears of asparagus? for ~1.5 cups of cheesy polenta?) Proteins were fine. Appetizers, cheese plates, salamis, all were good and generously sized. I asked about a particular wine, a ripasso, at $43. Server described it generally, but recommended his favorite: the Gattinara @ $62. 50% higher than the bottle I pointed to? Tried the Gattinara. No great shakes. "
Dined on 4/18/2014
Not worth the money. Sent back 2
of 4 dishes and fish was undercooked. Service was awesome but we were not happy with our experience."
Dined on 4/19/2014
I've eaten at Commonweath three
times: best for brunch. Dinner a little pricey, especially $9 for a vegetable - really swteep. But food excellent, and service fine."
Dined on 4/18/2014
Work lunch: small menu, above
average food (very very good salad, sandwich and fries were just ok) and good beers. Bar tend didn't have items to make a bloody mary, but bottled beer was good. Prices for that area. They are still getting used to the seating rush, so plan an hour, minimal."
Dined on 4/10/2014
The food was great and tables
readily available. The menu was very limited however."
Dined on 4/9/2014
This was the second time I've been
to Commonwealth. This time we went to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Everything I've ever had here was delicious - from the cocktails, to the entrees and sides, and especially the desserts. Plus, you feel like you're eating something that's good for you. Even the bread is delicious. It's definitely slightly upscale price-wise, but you will always feel like you got your money's worth."
Dined on 4/9/2014
Five of us were at Commonwealth on
a busy Saturday evening. The food was outstanding--I will remember that clam chowder forever! We split a platter of oysters that were amazingly fresh. Everyone loved their entree. The place was bustling but service was perfect. You never had to look for a wait staff person as they were at our table refilling water, taking off plates, bringing food constantly."
Dined on 4/5/2014
My meal was over-salted, hash was
not hash, it was pastrami with hashbrowns on top, and the hollandaise sauce broke so it just made the meal greasy. Poached eggs were overcooked as well. The other meal was good, it was the fried chicken and biscuits, also too salted, eggs were also overcooked, but the chicken and sausage gravy was great. Also hard to pass on dollar oysters, and the drinks were great too, just wouldn't go back for the overpriced food"
Dined on 3/30/2014
Little pricey for the decor.. But
the food and service was excellent."
Dined on 3/29/2014
Wow! What an outstanding meal,
service and environment. We ordered the crab cakes, salad, skate on special, whole bass and short ribs. Sides of asparagus and fingerling potatoes. Everything was perfectly cooked, served hot and colorful. Dessert was banana split. Yummy!!!"
Dined on 3/28/2014
The sandwiches and salads are
amazing, great for lunch. The pork belly sandwich is incredible. I don't think I'd go back for dinner based on other reviews. Servers can be a bit slow or inattentive--luck of the draw."
