Diner Reviews
  • "Came last year and it was wonderful. Disappointing this year. One Mimosa should be included. Buffet selection not as nice as last year. No breads, no ham for Easter, last year shrimp cocktail was amazing this year put in with oysters:/ Desserts were subpar S'mores really?:/ Very pricey for a disappointing selection this year. "

  • "I always enjoy the ambience with white tablecloths .The Brunch menue has greatly improved especially the raw bar and the prime rib tender and pink,I needed help navagating the buffet and the staff went out of their way to assist me even bringing things to the table"

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner on a Thursday night during Restaurant week. You selections were wonderful and the entrees were very appealing. However, it was the attentive service that was truly outstanding. Thank you one and all."

  • "We have returned again to a wonderful meal at the Columbus Inn. Lunch or dinner you can't loose. Atmosphere is perfect."

  • "Perhaps because it was Restaurant Week, but service was unacceptably slow throughout the dinner. The special offerings were adequate in number and variety, but disappointing in quality. This had not been my experience during previous dinners here."

  • "Haven't been there in a long time (a decade or more?) and have been there twice in the last 2 months. Very impressed. I've been working in NYC for the last 15 years and this place more than holds its own."

  • "I went for brunch. I thought there would be more food. They didn't even have scrambled eggs! Food was not replaced, so when it was out, it was out. I expected more from such a top shelf place."

  • "Nice menu. Food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was excellent. Would recommend for a night out of fine dining."

  • "I think there was some problem with booking reservations for several weeks because of now resolved computer problems. Recent change in management is a big plus for the Inn and will improve patrons experience. Food and staff are outstanding as always. Nice to see them offering daily specials again. Just need to broaden the Tavern menu options. Its always a nice experience dining here."

  • "An upscale restaurant with a warm, down-home feel. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The food was delicious! Will definitely return in the near future."

  • "This restaurant has a great ambiance. The wait staff is efficient and friendly, and nothing is ever a problem. The food is very good, and the specials are always a good bet. We go here quite frequently and are never disappointed. There has been a recent change in the general manager which seems to be further improving a great place, and will continue to do so. We recently had a large party there for a special event. It was memorable day, the catering was perfect. All the guests raved about the food and ambiance. Some friends enjoyed it so much, they decided to have their special event at the Columbus Inn."

  • "I have been bringing friends here over the past year. Every dish ordered was spectacular looking and tasting. Service is probably the best in Delaware and others should visit to see what exceptional service is. Just wonderful."

  • "Went on a Thursday night, which typically has a "vibrant" HH crowd, and this evening was no expception. A few "lively" parties were going on as well in the packed tavern area, which made it a little louder than usual. Service did not suffer however and was attentive and friendly as ever. We had the chicken bolognese and the ribs. Both were good, but not remarkable (the mac and cheese side was very bread-crummy), and the ribs were so glazed they were a bitt difficult to handle. However having said that, the evening was enjoyable, as it always is at CI. They used to be a great spot for lunch, they stated they closed for lunch while renovating (a year ago?). The reno is long done it appears, but they remain shuttered for lunch. Shame."

  • "Great experience. Food was excellent and service was great. the steak toast is a really good appetizer. I had the ribs with mac and cheese and my wife had the "tuna club" and we both really enjoyed our meals. we'll be back!"

  • "We had a 10 am brunch reservation; at check-in they didn't have a record of it. They sat us in the bar area where we were told no kids would be. A toddler and some older children were subsequently seated in the bar. I put up with the high-top table (which is hard for me to get on/off) because at least there would be no screaming kids. Twice during the meal the toddler let out an ear piercing scream. During the meal, I was called by the restaurant to ask why I hadn't kept my reservation! Despite this the food was excellent. Our waiter was a little slow in presenting us with our check."

  • "My husband and I dined at Columbus Inn for valentine's day. We had never dined there before and weren't exactly sure what to expect. The Columbus Inn exceeded our expectations. The service was good, the food was outstanding, and the courses were properly spaced out. We were not rushed through our courses nor were we left wondering where our dinner was. The food tasted like it was made with pride. They have a great chef. We will definitely be back."

  • "If you are looking for a good meal and don't care about the service, this is your place. When we walked in, the hostess had her nose in a book (I'm fairly certain the reservations book) and a scowl on her face. It took her a solid two minutes to notice us. When she did, there were no apologies or even pleasantries. We had a reservation and were shown to our table. The dining room is beautiful - very cozy and romantic. The server came to take our drink order, I asked for his preference between two drinks. He hadn't had either one so could offer no opinion. I also asked for his recommendation between two entrees. All he did was tell me they were very different. Overall we were more than satisfied with the food but disappointed in the service."

  • "Our experience was great. Our waitress was very attentive and kept us updated on the status of our order (it got really busy right when we came in). We went on a Saturday night & they had just started a new menu that Monday. My husband had the Seafood "Pot Pie." It could have been described a little better, I didn't order it because I was picturing an actual pot pie, but it was really a deconstructed pot pie and my husband LOVED it. He wasn't even finished eating & was already talking about coming back to order it again."

  • "A bunch of my co-workers and I went out for dinner after work and decided to try the "new and improved" Columbus Inn. I had not been there for many years and what a difference. The dining room is very cozy and the fireplace adds a lovely touch on a cold winter night. We happened to be there on a Wednesday night which is "1/2 price bottle of wine night" so that was a nice surprise that we took advantage of. Everyone enjoyed the cheese and meat appetizer and our dinners were all delicious. Would highly recommend this place for a special occasion, cozy dinner for two or dinner before the theater. You won't be disappointed!"

  • "I recently went to Sunday brunch at Columbus Inn to celebrate a birthday with 4 friends. Had always heard that brunch was good here - none of us had been before. We enjoyed everything about the brunch. The buffet was beautiful, delicious and had a lot of variety. The waitstaff was terrific. We never had an empty glass of water or cup of coffee. The room was pretty and comfortable and well lit. We stayed for over two hours and never felt like they were rushing us to leave. We all decided that we would like to celebrate all of our birthdays here!"

  • "Disappointing. Not sure we would return. We knew the former Columbus Inn where caesar salads were prepared tableside authentically in a wooden bowl with garlic. The menu was completely different from whats posted online. I ended up ordering a burger because I didn't want anything else. There was an issue with the website is what we were told. When asked if I wanted cheese I said Gruyere and the server said swiss as if they are one in the same. I said no Gruyere.Never correct a patron especially when you are not well informed about food knowledge and could be talking to a foodie who knows the difference. The food was mediocre.Service was ok,attentive, and never got our servers name.I was turned off for the rest of the meal after that."

  • "WEe wnt on Christmas Eve. Have been there many times. The menu was limited and not as gooas usual. THe gnocci dish was just plain awful. Hard to believe it left the kitchen. The fish was just so so. Overall the experience was not as good as in the past and the service was slow. We gave up on desert although we had all planned to order somethiing. 15 minueds after the plates were cleared there was no one in sight to even take an order. We like this place generally but this was not a good experience."

  • "I hosted a large party. Several of the attendees thought their food was excellent. Mine was not, the filet had a strange taste and the bernaise sauce was way too salty. The atmosphere is great and the service was attentive and well handled."

  • "Get there by 10:00 when it opens. We had the whole place to ourselves and by 11:30 when the crowds appeared, we had had a great meal, a great time, and intimate talks."

  • "This is our 3rd year in a row that we have celebrated the coming of the New Year at the Columbus Inn.Obviously, we like it! The young staff is professional, friendly and competent.New Year's Eve is a very busy time and the staff is under a lot of pressure to make things run smoothly.I'd give them all an "A". The menu choices are interesting ,well prepared, and served in a timely manner. We were very happy that last year's idea of "do it yourself" dessert was not repeated. It wasn't attractive and created too much jumping up and down.If you 're dressed up,and spending $50 per person you really don'r want to be waiting on yourself.Good decision!"

  • "With a 730 reservation the place was emptying out on our arrival. Told 5 to 10 minutes we were not seated until 8. We ordered immediately. Salads came at 830. Dinner after 9. In an almost empty place at that point. The food was good but service was awful"

  • "Columbus Inn's family style Thanksgiving dinner was delicious! The food was quite fresh, just the right mix of comfort food and a bit of trendy deliciousness. The atmosphere was fun and the servers were very nice. We very much enjoyed dining here for this holiday meal. We had to find a spot at the last minute (made the reservation on Monday for Thursday) and this hit all the marks. I would recommend for anyone looking for a nice holiday dinner."

  • "We haven't visited Columbus Inn for a very long time. That all changed when we were looking for a place to have Thanksgiving Dinner and we selected the Columbus Inn. We are not sure why we drifted away from the restaurant, but after having their Thanksgiving fare we are sure to return to savor some selections from their dinner menu. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and had a great time tasting each portion of our meals. We recommend trying this restaurant. and we are looking forward to returning."

  • "Being from out of town, we needed a restaurant that was convenient and good, and OpenTable pointed us to the Columbus Inn. Finding it was a little challenging as there were non prominent lit signs when we got close. However, as soon as we walked in, we were well taken care of. The staff are quite personable and experienced and led us to a cozy table by a big fireplace. Our waitress was very attentive, ensuring that our water carafe was fresh and filled. Our salads were simple, yet fresh and crisp. Our entrees were original with a nice presentation. The gnocchi was prepared with an unusual sweet and sour taste and had just the right amount of sauce. Our bill was delivered promptly, allowing us to leave in time for the concert."
