  • Sangria, Salad, Tapas and Dessert

I was joined by two colleagues for dinner and we enjoyed a lighter fare for dinner so that we could also enjoy dessert, which was very good. The only down side of the tapas we chose is that they were fried. A lighter tapas selection would have worked better. We each selected a dessert; each was a good sized portion, so plenty to share. We did enjoy a pitcher of the Cava Sangria, very light and fruity. Highly recommend.

My husband and I dined at The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City on his birthday, August 7. We sat near the piano and enjoyed the music played. Our food was delicious: the 1905 salad was great, my husband had a combination platter with Boliche, pork and another item- it was delicious. I had lobster cannelloni -- it was fantastic! We also had the red Sangria, which was very, very good. Our server was very attentive and our food was delivered to our table right out of the oven. Our experience was very good and we will be back soon.

Reservation staff were very accomodating when we had to call re a late arrival after getting lost in the traffic in that area. Our server was very personable but seemed very busy and we waited a good while before he could take our drink order. One member of my party ordered 2 appetizers and asked for them to come out separetly which they didn't. Another member of my group was still eating her salad when her entree arrived when she mentioned that to a different server who brought out the food, that server merely shrugged and still left the entree

My mom ate here often when she lived in Tampa in the 30s. My family and I ate here in 1991 when my son was only 3. The only thing he remembers about that trip was eating at the Columbia. On our recent trip to Florida, my husband and I were able to have three meals here. Each was perfect! Great food, great service, great ambiance!

  • Scallop Appetizer was great

We eat here on occasion and came back to get some of the dishes we've found to be consistent and delicious. The Scallop Appetizer and 1905 Salad with Turkey were both excellent and flavorful. On the other hand, one entrée that was ordered was a porterhouse that was supposedly a 40 day dry aged steak. I've had quite a few dry aged steaks and this one still had quite a bit of stringiness from the connective tissues, which I've rarely run across in dry aged steaks. They also left quite a bit of fat on the edges. I'm ok with a bit of fat and even more so if there's a bit of a char to it, which none of the fat had. Unfortunately, this steak suffered from uneven cooking as well. One portion showed char while another portion looked untouched.

We loved this restaurant. Highly recommend dinner AND show. The flamenco show is wildly entertaining, the dancers were fantastic! My husband had the filet mignon which was done to perfection, and I had the Chicken Machengo which was THE BEST chicken dish I've ever eaten in my life. It was bursting with so many flavours. Outstanding! Service was excellent and the atmosphere was vibrant.

We enjoyed our dinner at the Columbia very much. The history and ambiance were amazing. Service was excellent. I am gluten-free and did not expect that this restaurant would offer me many choices. I was impressed that the Columbia actually had a gluten free menu with plenty of variety, and gluten free beer. The 1905 salad was wonderful, although you must be a garlic/spice lover to appreciate it.

i made a reservation for Sunday (dinner & show) when i arrive i was told there was no show on Sundays. I was never called so that I could plan accordingly. Poor service... the girls at the front were talking amongs themselves the whole time while people were standing around waiting to be acknowledged. The waiter was not very helpful with menu and not very attentive as we would sit there and wait for drink refills for long periods of time. The food was great and the restaurant is beautiful but the service is poor.

Was in town for the Tampa Bay Comic Con wanted good Cuban food went online a few hours earlier made a reservation for later that night which was good because they were packed. Waited about 10-15 minutes for a table, server was quick to come to the table and get a drink order. Ordered our dinner which took no time to get and was excellent, the cuban bread was hot and fresh. Good price and best service we had since in town.

The hostess was awesome with getting us a table earlier that we had. The server however was the worst I have ever had. Obviously made comments about us when we were seated at the table. This was evident by the pointing and staring at us while talking to other staff. We only saw him for when we flagged him to ordered something. Never checked on us during the meal. Would actually walk past us to check on tables around us. Luckily the food was good enough to come back otherwise we wouldn't

I brought my family to the Columbia restaurant for an authentic Spanish/Cuban dinner in a historic setting. The rooms are very elaborate and the energy is great. We were in a smaller room with Red Velvet wallpaper. Our waiter seemed to be a rookie and it took over 2.5 hours for the 4 of us to have our dinner and leave. Most of the time waiting for the waiter to return to the room. He would just disappear and he did not have all the tables in the smaller room. The food was excellent and I would definitely go back, but hopefully will get a better waiter next time.

Food was okay but nothing special. $21 for slices of pork roast, a plantain, and average rice & black beans was very overpriced. Service is more banquet styled and impersonal -- no one seems to be responsible for your table or your dining experience. We thought the dance show at $6 pp was entertaining but the dancers weren't in step with each other. It also wasn't a true "flamenco" show as advertised. It was more like "Spanish dancing" with a few clicks. We've seen flamenco performed professionally in Spain and villagers dance better in the streets at local festivals. Evening was way too expensive for what we got, and we won't be returning.

I visited the restaurant on Sunday and can't begin to tell you what a great experience it was. We were waited on by Caleb who did an excellent job and the food was outstanding. My wife and I took our twin girls out as they are getting ready to return to college. It was out first visit. It is easy to understand how the Columbia is able to stand the test of time when so many others have come and gone. Great job! Steve & Lori Mallardi

Booked reservations for a 30 wedding anniversary dinner celebration and was confirmed for special dinner n flamenco. We loved the good and the service so it was worth the 7 hour trip. However the staff sat us at the bar area and we didn't get our special dinner and flamenco even after I mentioned it to one of the hostess. All in all it's a great restaurant but was disappointed that our special evening wasn't a celebration at the restaurant.

Six years ago, we enjoyed a late lunch in the lovely main dining room, and so enjoyed the civilized service and fine cuisine. Fast forward to July 29, 2014, our anniversary. I reserved dinner and the flamenco show, thinking that would be not crowded on a Tuesday. WRONG. The lobby at the Columbia is small, but the number of diners the restaurant can seat is huge. So there is a tense period trying to get your name in. Stupidly, I expected to be seated in the main dining room, but during the week, we were crammed in an area off to the side. This was a major disappointment. Still, the service and food were both very good, as was the show. When we left, a BUS was pulling up for the 10 p.m. show. Yikes. This Columbia has become an amusement park.

This place is great and I've told family and friends about it, but on my last reservation I showed up 5 minutes early just to hear someone took my reservation....how is that? Had to wait an extra 30 minutes with family member (out of town) I brought for their first time and never got an explanation for what was wrong....service and food is always amazing but this experience of losing my reservation really stunk. I know they can get it right but not mentioning something about this is not fair.
