  • Date Night at Columbia
    OpenTable Diner Since 2014
    Dined on 9/12/2014
I made dinner/show reservations requesting a stage side table. We were told we could sit at the bar they would start seating in 15 mins to come back, when we got to the hostess stand they said another 30 mins, we could of stayed at the bar instead of standing in the lobby. She had the fillet which was awesome, I had the piallia which frankly was a little bland and over cooked. Restroom was a mess, felt more like a gas station than a fancy restaurant. We got a table way in the back even though we requested a stage side it was hard to see the dancers. the highlight of Flamenco dancing is the sounds, but they had the music so loud you couldn't hear the dancers. All around a good night but could have been great with a few tweeks.

I just keep returning here, we can be seated a different dining area and it feels like a whole new experience. Two things are constantly excellent- the food and the service. This was our fourth time dining at Columbia. My husband has ALS and is confined to an electric wheelchair. This restaurant made every effort to secure his comfort. Thank You Columbia.

Took a step away from the traditional Spanish tapas foods and Mexican restaurants and decided to visit this gem of Tampa Bay area, and we were not disappointed one little bit. They have lots of vegetarian options, a wide wine, beer, and cocktail list, and a lot of variety in their dining options. The Sept 5 special appetizer was their take on fried cheese (mahon), but served with a papaya-mango chutney. I had the Eggplant Riojana and the wife had the Sept 5th special, the Pollo Salgado. Everything tasted spot on. But the one thing that was a notch above a lot of other restaurants: their amazing service. The staff, professionally dressed and groomed, were very attentive, and helpful at all times.

Our guests from out of country enjoyed the Flemenco Dance Show. However, the lone male dancer could be in a better shape and better spirit. Also the server was not as friendly or observant as what I would expect from this class of restaurants. The server got in between two tight rows of seats and our guests had to wait for a while to be seated.

I was born and raised in Tampa but never hit up the Columbia until about 10 years ago. I took my sister and brother-in-law on their most recent visit down here and they had never been. It was (of course) a huge hit. They can't get cuban sandwiches where they live in Minnesota so they were looking for the real deal. We started with a plate of the most fantastic sweet plantains (my fave), followed by the unbeatable 1905 salad, Cuban sandwiches, black bean soup, and I can't go there without having a delicious glass of the Columbia sangria. We went just before 12:00 on a Tuesday. Got right in and seated. It was a perfect lunch. You can't miss with the Columbia!!

Reservation highly recommended, very busy on the weekends. Service here is top notch and eating here an experience. Started with the lobster flatbread which was excellent.. fresh crispy great flavors. We split the ropa vieja with a side of black bean soup. The soup was amazing and just how I imagined. The ropa vieja was tender and flavorful... plantains nice and crispy and rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned well. The other couple shared the paella and absolutely loved it. Drink wise we had a pitcher of sangria which is a must, one ordered a mojito and it was the best they ever had.. served with a fresh stick of cane sugar.

I had read it was romantic and that there was a dinner show but we were seated up in the balcony and there was only one server for the six balcony tables...everything was slow. Shrimp prepared in garlic and olive oil was too salty - I would have sen it back but service was slow. I believe you must request a table for the show.

My husband and I first went to The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City on our honeymoon and found it to be enchanting and full of character, I love all the mosaic tile work and the grand crystal chandlers. The taste of the food exceeded our expectations, along with a delightful Mojito to accompany the meal, we simply had to linger for desert. 35 years later as we were celebrating our anniversary, the great memory of the restaurant came flooding my mind and so I told my husband we must make the journey back to celebrate as we do live quite a distance away. So we found ourselves once again enjoying a most delightful meal in a cherished environment!
