  • "The Columbia restaurant will never be known for innovation and trying something new. it's the same old same old and on some levels i'm ok with that. If you go just know that the restaurant can feel a bit tired because its been serving the same dishes for a long time."

  • "I always enjoy going to the Columbia Restaurant for lunch or dinner! The food is great as well as the service and it's just a great atmosphere. I would highly recommend it to anyone who has never been before."

  • "Excellent authentic Cuban fare. Generous portions. We sat in the bar area and it was more casual than the formal dining area, which we preferred. Lots of natural light inside a beautiful historic treasure. Ybor is an interesting and vibrant place - think New Orleans meets Key West. Great people watching, too."

  • "This place is great and I've told family and friends about it, but on my last reservation I showed up 5 minutes early just to hear someone took my reservation....how is that? Had to wait an extra 30 minutes with family member (out of town) I brought for their first time and never got an explanation for what was wrong....service and food is always amazing but this experience of losing my reservation really stunk. I know they can get it right but not mentioning something about this is not fair."

  • "We expected so much better from Columbia Restaurant. Extremely understaffed on a weekend night, guests were lined up more than 30 min past their reservation time waiting to be seated with more than 25% of the tables empty. Once seated, our waitress had so many tables we only saw her once to take our order during our entire meal. Servers and busboys brought us our meals and filled our water glasses. We waited over 30 min for our meal to arrive. The food was average at best and it was clear that the kitchen was trying to get out as many meals as quickly as possible. This is a large restaurant which was clearly very disorganized and understaffed. The staff tried hard, but, management needs to do a much better job. ."

  • "The Columbia in Ybor City is a historical beauty, and has great food, drink, flamenco (special shows on the weekend with reservation), and a large and delicious menu. You can walk into any of the Columbia offshoots (Sand Key, St. Augustine and the like) and get the food and service experience, but go to the original in Tampa to take in the history. It is very loud and busy, and even with a reservation, we waited 20 min. However, the service and overall experience is worth the wait."

  • "The service, food and show were excellent. My wife and I have enjoyed dining at the Columbia many time over the years. However, this was the first time our schedule allowed us to see the dancers. It was an excellent addition to a fine dining experience."

  • "We had reserved a table for 2 for 7pm on a weekday but when we arrived the lobby was packed with people. Those without reservations had a 60-80 minutes wait. We were seated after 5 minutes and our waiter, Gary, was super-efficient. The food was very good."

  • "Excellent, as always. This is why I recommend it anytime someone is visiting Tampa! Ybor is also a great location for almost anyone, although not the best family environment."

  • "Took my teenager for lunch (she'd never been) and it was stellar. There's no substitute for the Columbia, esp. in Ybor. We were warmly greeted (welcomed, really) when we arrived, the service was attentive, atmosphere was unbeatable, food was excellent...just the whole package. Especially loved the Churros and the Key Lime Pie. Thank you, Columbia, for a great performance once again."

  • "I am working periodically in Tampa, and the Columbia is always on my dining list. Great food, great service, and a fun energetic atmosphere. Have the flan!"

  • "I would suggest to friends to ask for a table upstairs where you might be able to converse. I don't get headaches, but the noise here gave me one. The table service was below previous experiences and the food was very slow to arrive as well. I had never had a negative experience at Columbia Restaurants but this was one. This time we chose entrees instead of small plates and appetizers, not a good decision. The description of one of the dishes did not match what we received since it was served in a sauce (not mentioned) that obscured the flavor of the ingredients. The 1905 salad was as good as usual, however, and was the shining piece of dinner. We should have stopped with that and gone directly to dessert."

  • "Took some clients to dinner at the Columbia. They're still raving about the roast pork, black beans and rice. I had the filete salteado which had very tender pieces of filet in a rich sauce, but it lacked the salty / sweet flavor of my mom's recipe. Well prepared, but just a little something missing. The flamenco show in the room next to us was an unexpected bonus, but it was loud an didn't allow us to speak to each other for 20-30 minutes. Overall, the Columbia's performance was consistently solid. Salud!"

  • "The entire experience here was wonderful! I really enjoyed every dish we tried and save room for the guava pastry dessert. The Mojito and Sangria was perfect too!"

  • "We love the Cuban Black Bean Soup at Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City and are willing to put up with the long wait to be seated - even with a reservation we waited 25 minutes in mid-afternoon. However, our service this time was below par. It appears that the server had too many tables to cover and could not keep up with our nominal follow-up needs. In fairness to the server, the wait-staff is expected to do more than at a typical restaurant in that the final preparation of a lot of the food is done table-side. Will we go there again? Probably, we'll give it another chance - but not real soon."

  • "Although we have dined at the Columbia in St. Augustine numerous times over the years, and several times in Celebration, FL. this was our first time dining in Ybor city. There were 12 of us, which included 7 adults and 5 children (3 - 13 yrs. old). We found the menu items enjoyable for all of us, including the children. We got to enjoy our meal without being rushed and the service was good. The only complaint, was that we had to wait nearly 1/2 hour for our table even though we had a reservation."

  • "As a third-generation Tampa person, I have been eating at Columbia since the early fifties. Sadly it has become too touristy. A restaurant can be appealing to tourists without sacriificing atmosphere, but Columbia has failed. The rooms are too crowded, too many tables. Atmosphere too frenzied with loud noises and waiters trying to manuver between closely packed tables. Service somewhat brusque and impersonal. Food quality is a moving target..some items good, others mediocre. Rather a quality Spamish-Cuban restaurant, Columbia is now a Disney-esque version of its elegant past. So sad."

  • "Columbia is our "go to" restaurant for celebrations. We usually have large groups and still get excellent service. The food is always great no matter how many we have. There is a great variety on the menu to satisfy any taste."

  • "Let me start by saying that the Ybor Columbia is one of our favorite restaurants. I was celebrating my sister's 70th birthday with out of town guests with a party of 7. I originally requested a nice table and during the confirmation phone call I again requested a nice table and the reason for the occasion. What we received was a table protruding into the walkway between our dining room and the show dining room. I was constantly bumped by patrons and the serving staff walking into and out of the show dining room. We started our dinner with our waiter dropping and breaking a bottle of wine to be used in making tableside sangria. In all fairness, our waiter was very nice and our food was very good but the experience left a lot to be desired."

  • "My husband and I have decided that trying out different restaurants is our hobby! Columbia restaurant took our breath away! Everything was perfect from beginning to end. The homemade Cuban bread at the beginning of your meal is warm, soft and sumptuous. The tapas are large enough for a table to share even as an appetizer. Their selection of dishes is a wonderful combination of traditional Cuban cuisine and great seafood. And no matter how full you feel, you MUST order their homemade Coconut Ice Cream at the end. Even if you are not a coconut fan, when you first put it in your mouth, you think "Yeah, that's pretty good", but then once you swallow and you REALLY taste the flavors, I guarantee you'll say, "OMG!""

  • "The Flamenco show was very entertaining, but after informing our waiter that water was dripping on my guest from the above a/c unit on the ceiling, he pulled our table closer to the one next to us. Water was still hitting my guest, and after three times, we gave up. There was no where else to seat us, which made for an uncomfortable dinner. The food was just okay and nothing to write home about or recommend to others."

  • "Enjoyed dinner and the flamenco show. Reservations at 6:30 for dinner made timing for the 7:00 show perfect. Paella was excellent!"

  • "I first visited the Columbia in the mid 1960's and it was a very memorable occasion. I've been back several time through the years and each visit was and still is a very memorable occasion. I love the first class food, ambience and service."

  • "The sangria was great and the ambiance fun, but our reservation wasn't held, in fact we were told it was standard to wait to be seated after reservation time. It was too late for paella once we were sat, so the server (who did great with a large group) indicated something similiar with seafood which was tasty, but the scallops were overcooked. Go if you have a long time, and money to burn."

  • "The Columbia is one of those restaurants that you will want to return to over and over again. First of all, we arrived having made a reservation for 15. One of the guests brought along another couple, unannounced. I explained this to the hostess who without any hesitation politely added 2 more spots for us. The food was memorable and I am a rather harsh critic. I had the grouper, in the Basque style. The thin potatoes were delicious under the fish, which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The tomatoes and onion surrounding the fish were slightly charred as if cooked in a wood fire, giving it a smoky flavor. The dish was served with a half lemon that had been grilled and provided just the right amount of acidity to lift the dish. Yum!!"

  • "It was my daughter's 19th birthday, The service was slow with excuses, no refills, long time for food. We just asked for it to be boxed as thar in and of itself took over an hour. Ir was not a great birthday for her. It was her favorite, place where she had spent the last 4 birthdays. Thank you."

  • "Hostess and seating was great. 1905 salad was excellent. Chicken was extremely dry and barely edible. Not worth the $."

  • "We ate here on a recent vacation in Tampa and wanted to try this historic restaurant. Easy to find, convenient parking started us off right. The outside tile work is beautiful; inside was amazing. The decor beautiful, nice ambience. The menu is actually quite affordable--from Cuban sandwiches to elaborate hot dishes. I am not usually a big fan of yellow rice, but the rice in my chicken dish was delicious, well-cooked. The Sangria is not too sweet and very refreshing in the summertime. The wait staff in tuxedos is a nice touch."

  • "We had dinner and sat in the patio. The table and ambience were amazing. The food was delicious. We had the 1905 salad that was freshly prepared. I had the Spanish Bean Soup and it was hot and tasty. We had the bread pudding for dessert. It was magnificent. The Columbia is one of the best restaurants in the world."

  • "Our meal was the best Mahi Mahi ever. The Columbia Ensalada is a must try, made at our table by the waiter, it is the best dressing ever! The meal was served so you could enjoy each course. Our waiter was very thoughtful and served us well, if a bit slow. The food was delicious and we'd return for that. The entertainment was $6.00 per person, performing flamenco by local students. My husband really enjoyed it; I was disappointed. Don't expect to have a conversation, the noise level is way too loud."

  • "I have been to the St. Augustine location and loved the entire experience, so I had high expectations of the Ybor City location, unfortunately, my husband and I were very disappointed. The front staff was not very welcoming. I asked about the flamenco show, and the hostess was very short with us saying, "we're all booked". I made reservations beforehand as it was my husbands birthday, and was treated like a walk in. We were sat at probably the worse table in the house-- next to the server station and behind the bar, although there were plenty of tables near the windows that were open. The food was "ok"-- the food tasted better at their other location (we ordered the same thing as we did before). Our server and the sangria were excellent."
