  • "I had been to Colterra before, but always in the winter. The outdoor patio was really special! I told our waitperson about a moscow mule martini I had enjoyed somewhere else, and she made one for me even better than the original! Food was amazing! I had a kale and crusted goat cheese salad and my friend had the halibut special, followed by creme brûlée. Really special evening, but definitely a special occasion place because of the cost."

  • "Rare is it on the front range that one can experience eating beneath trees. Being a dryer region there is not an abundance of restaurants that offer a cover of green foliage. The care in the chosen decor inside and out makes colterra excel before you have puruised the menu. Sitting outside under an oak with an occasional breeze and the sunflowers bursting from their flower garden i was transported to another reality for an hour out of my day. The turnip~ squash soup with fennel, olive oil and a hit of cheese was yummy. The tuna i got was rare,fresh, and perfection . Nestled in a bed of summer lettuce, carrot, potato and a pile of mixed olives it was a nearly perfect plate. I imagine everything is good here and i will definitely be back."

  • "We had our first experience at Colterra recently for our anniversary. I thought that the service was good (not above and beyond) and the food was good. My husband got the New York Strip and I got the halibut. However, it did not blow us away. I think that for a $39 steak and a $32 halibut, it should be amazing."

  • "Disappointed that fillet was sliced. Companion prefers seeing whole steak. Waiter seemed to be taking care of the entire room. Saw him when food was delivered, for one check on acceptability and again for dessert/ coffee, and bill. Bus boy was good. Noise level terribly high. Was hoarse when I got home from shouting. Food was only luke warm when delivered. Got cold quickly. My "rack" of lamb consisted of one rib chop, which was delicious, but certainly NOT a "rack"! Flavors were excellent over-all. Kale, which I don't normally care for, was outstanding. Presentation was beautiful."

  • "Colterra is a charming, calm environment in the old town center of Niwot. Their outdoor seating looked beautiful. We decided to eat inside because of threatening rain. Our appetizers (beat salad and white bean soup) were delicious and very fresh. Our only, slight, criticism was that the salmon entree was ordered medium but was served medium-well. The pork loin chop was sumptuous and prepared perfectly. Sides were very tasty, as was dessert. We will definitely go back."

  • "5 of us sat outside on the patio. The sun can be a challenge, but there are plenty of trees to shade the area and your eyes. As always, the food was fantastic. Excellent flavors and great presentation. We had a wide range of brunch entrees from griddle cakes to eggs benedict. Unfortunately the service was not good. Less-than-stellar service in the Denver/Boulder area is the norm, but our waiter was struggling to perform even simple tasks. I did not ask, but he had all of the symptoms of someone that had too much fun the night before. Given that service is typically much better, maybe he was just 'off.'"

  • "We dined here several times last summer and we're very impressed with both the lovely patio and the food. Patio is still lovely but food disappointed. My salmon was paired with a soggy potato and spinach curry. The curry flavor completely overwhelmed the salmon. My partner's lobster and scallop risotta appeared in a heavy creamed tomato sauce, which again overwhelmed the more delicate flavors of the lobster. If they have changed chefs see if the former is still available."

  • "Colterra remains our most desirable getaway restaurant! The food is special and FRESH... the garden is right there surrounding the patio area. You cannot find a nicer patio for romantic evening dining... the food and wine will not disappoint you. When they say they fly in fresh Copper River salmon, BUY IT!!! Oh, by the way, the staff ROCKS! They do not turn over like other restaurants... we enjoy service form the same talented people time and again. I bet you like it too when you get friendly service form the same servers you have been talking with for years. Other restaurants fail to remain true to their culture and products, but not Colterra!"

At least, I think the current food is overpriced, at best. I keep going back hoping it will get better, as the location and especially the front dining room and the patio are very nice."

  • "Colterra a is our favorite place for outdoor dining, so we mae another visit for lunch last Friday. Beautiful day,wonderful service and delightful food. My Wagu Frites were nicely rare and mouth watering. Barbara's risotto with tilapia was tasty as well. They even made her favorite Limontine even though it wasn't on the drink list any more. More wonderful memories."

  • "We were there, the four of us on a Thursday night, my birthday. Niwot was alive with the street fair and pedestrians strolling. We ate inside (there were no patio tables available). Colterra has never disappointed us. It's a great place to bring out-of- town friends"

  • "We were a table for four, OUTSIDE with plenty of nice shade from many large cotton trees. It was cool with gardens all around making for a very lovely experience. The wine list is notable with a large selection from domestic and foreign. They had many of my favorites from Italy and France. Not bad for a neighbor restaurant. They seem to have always excellent seafood choices from Ahi Tuna to salmon to mussels. They also have excellent meat choices from chicken to pork to beef. The salads are always extra special. They have the top chefs in Boulder County in my opinion."

  • "Generally I'm very pleased with Colterra, but this visit the service was slow, food was cold, and wine was mishandled. I didn't complain at the time; didn't think it would do any good. But...without prompting, the manager called me the next day, asked how our visit was, and was concerned when I told him of the bad experience. He apologized, and offered an inducement to return. Couldn't have asked for anything more."

Everything else was good, wine list works, timely attentive service. Next time, I'll go back to the lamb which is delicious. Oh, and I had PEI mussels in a tomato, spinach and lava bean concoction which was terrific."

  • "Our table was in a back room & our server had a table for 12, our table & 2 other tables. The party of 12 was very loud, taking pictures laughing, standing up & walking around. When the big party had left, the bus boys had come in to "clean up" & return it into four tables again-they were unfolding table clothes,sliding tables & chairs across the floors,it looked & sounded like they were setting up for an event. Hard to get server's attention, dinner plates were not cleared for 20 mns after we were done eating, chai after-dinner drink came with the check- our table was an after thought."

We ordered the charcuterie plate which was excellent, especially the pork rillettes, and then my husband had a white bean soup which was so-so, and I had a delicious beet salad which was great. He had a steak small plate, which was plenty for him, and I had a yummy spring vegetable tasting plate, showcasing some spring vegetables. It was really good. We sat out on the patio, which is shaded by giant old trees and patio umbrellas, and there were many other people outside as well. It was a beautiful spring evening, and a very pleasant experience overall. We would come back again. "

He disappeared for long periods of time. This was not because the restaurant was busy, because it wasn't. I would eat here again, but I hope that the service is better."

  • "If you enjoy an elder statesman waiter who will try to make you feel stupid, then this is the place for you. Almost everything we ordered, this man very condescendingly asked if we were familiar with it, including the REAL maraschino cherry. This is an expensive place! One should assume that the diners probably know some basics facts and might have even been out to a restaurant before! If you think we aren't good enough for you to take our money, then don't seat us next time. We have plenty of options in Boulder. Tuna was overdone, dessert was like a hunk so raspberry buttercream on top of a chocolate cookie."

  • "We've been going here for years, hosted huge parties, etc. Made a reservation for special occasion. Arrived, hostess on phone for 7-8 min with no eye contact.After ending call, hostess simply looked at us. We offered our name & she couldn't have sounded more uppity- "Do you HAVE a reservation?" We offered our name, one would think we did. She didn't look it up & gruffly said "inside or out?" Seated next to only table occupied, despite specific request. Patio empty. $18+ 4oz pours of wine & prices that were hard to stomach especially w waitress who also was just so uppity. We've supported not only Colterra but entire concept. When did such arrogance became part of local, sustainable farm to table? We left - forever. "

  • "We have eaten at Colterra many times and the food has always been above average to excellent. The service had always been knowledgable and professional. But, this time, our dirty dinner plates were left on the table for a good 20 minutes. Our server came by several times but was only concerned with if we wanted more beverages. When we finally asked that our dirty dishes be removed she blamed the problem on the busboy. Maybe he was lacking but surely she could have either deigned to touch the dirty plates herself or alerted him to the problem. It put a damper on the experience "
