Diner Reviews
  • "Can't count the times I've eaten there in the past. We left rather unimpressed. First, God forbid our 81 year old uncle order a scotch that doesn't have the "blah, blah earthy seal of certified grain on it.,..so they don't carry it. 2nd, they didn't have the wine we wanted for the table, so we got charged for the "similiar" wine, which of course was higher. Every word that came out of the waiters mouth started with Organic, vegan, vegetarian, blah, blah free this and that. Completely over the top. Can anybody just go to a great restaurant and order a drink, a good steak, and enjoy the meal? The bison steak was tough...had to spit out 3 or 4 bites, simply couldn't chew it. For the high price we paid...not impressed at all."

  • "Finally warm enough to eat outside on Colterra's ample patio. What a treat. I had a Caesar salad and steak special. My wife had the spring vegetable plate. Everything was excellent. We also had the Meyer lemon tart. Kings ridge Pinot Noir demanded a second glass."

  • "My colleague and I enjoyed our meals. I had an Ahi Tuna Niçoise salad and she had one of the specials. Friendly, knowledgeable staff and a quaint atmosphere."

  • "Beautiful charming restaurant in Niwot with amazing food, great staff and a great atmosphere. The character of the building is absolutely wonderful. We were seated inside and I can see how in the summer, outside patio seating is also a must. Each course was absolutely lovely. It was nice and quiet so we could talk without having to yell. Will definitely be back - maybe even try the brunch!"

  • "We really enjoyed the sausage frittata (new on the menu), but the french toast was sub-par (a change from before). The service was good, as usual. However it was extremely disconcerting to have the hostess dress with simply a shirt and a belt. One wrong move or to even bend over to pick up a stray napkin, and diners would have seen something best left for a different type of establishment. I"m not normally a prude, but this was totally unacceptable for brunch at a high-end family restaurant. Dear hostess: put some pants on so we can enjoy our meal instead of wondering (or hoping, as may be the case) if you will have a wardrobe malfunction."

  • "Usually French restaurants do not have a lot of food options for kids. But Colterra was an exception. The food looked great and tasted even better. The service was very good and very courteous."

  • "This was recommended to us by our son who has dined here more than once. Very relaxing atmosphere and excellent food. Very broad menu from chicken to venison steak to buffalo strip."

  • "We enjoyed a Sunday brunch with a small party of friends and family. Several of us had not dined at Colterra before and would welcome the next visit."

  • "My girlfriend and I went for her Birthday. It was the 3rd time we have been to Colterra. They seated us way out back, you almost go outside to get to this spot. I made the reservation 3 weeks in advance. I think part of the experience is the atmosphere, which is really nice in the main 2 rooms. The room we were in was boring and kinda loud. Then the food came. I ordered the lamb 2 ways. The chop was all bone and the few pieces I could eat were very tough. Her fish was very good though. Very disappointing as the previous times were excellent."

  • "This was our first time dining at Colterra and what a lovely surprise. The food, service and ambiance was wonderful. The Charcuterie appetizer was heavenly; the almond goat cheese salad was devine; the duck confit small plate was great; and lamb two ways was delishish! The waitress recommended a great wine to go with the meal. I loved that there was no pretention with the wait staff; she was patient and explained what all the menu items where that I did not recogonize. It was fun to try different types of food prepared in such interesting ways. We will definately come back."

  • "We were entertaining guests from Los Angeles. They had previously commented on the lack of good food in Colorado. After dining at Colterra they were singing a different tune. Wonderful food - wonderful night."

  • "Denver Dining Week menu. First two courses were good but portions were very small. Desert was inedible. Waiter seemed a bit confused, perhaps new to the restaurant. Nearby diner also complained about desert and received some compensation. I did not. Previous experiences at this restaurant have always been good."

  • "We always enjoy our trips to Colterra. While its great for dinner it is a bargain for lunch/brunch. Their non-meat selections are outstanding"

  • "Stopped by for restaurant week. Excellent food and even better service. Planning to dine at Colterra again in the near future to try out their full menu. Colterra is hidden away, I would not have known about it if not for restaurant week."

  • "I don't go out to fancy places often but dined here during Restaurant Week on a whim! Me and my partner were pleasantly surprised. Our food was fresh and oh so flavorful without any of the usual heavy sauces you find elsewhere. The only disappointment that night was the dessert. The pear tart was a bit dry and sugary and the chocolate bread pudding was also dry and a bit short on chocolate flavor. I'm pretty sure they'll improve on it next time. I do plan to return and dine again. It's a bit out of the way for me but I think it's worth the trip. I've read some of the reviews that their brunch is great so maybe that'll be our next trip."

  • "My sister and I had a wonderful meal. We were supposed to each share our plates, but we both forgot to leave extra bites for each other. Hence, we cleaned our plates. Our server was terrific. She turned up the heat for us because we were cold and then put my sister's plate in the warmer when she left the table for a few mins. My one tiny complaint was that our crème brulees were not consistent. Mine was terrific, but the eggs in my sister's had been scrambled, making the overall texture grainy."

  • "The food here is prepared really well. The papardelle is amazing. I'm no vegetarian by any stretch, but I can't stop ordering this every time I go. The beignets are delightful and the bloody mary's ar spot on. Go here. The food is great and the service is super."

  • "It makes me think of a small romantic country inn, but it's a gem of a spot for gourmet dining with the freshest of ingredients, prepared with flair and imagination. I love taking out-of-towners there, dining on the patio under the graceful tall trees in summer, or indoors in winter in the warmly lit main rooms, or for sneaking away with girlfriends at lunchtime for something tasty but not calorific like my favorite mussels. It's just one of my very favorite all-around spots."

  • "We tried Colterra because of restaurant week and we are glad we did. The waiter was fantastic about making sure my husband and my dinners were gluten free and was helpful without being over-baring. Everything was wonderful and this is our favorite restaurant week "find" and one of the few we'll actually be back to."

  • "This restaurant was what we expected. The service was fanaminal. Food tasted fresh with an abundance of flavors married together. The restaurant was once a farm house and barn. It kept much of it's original charm making the ombiance unique and different making the overall dinning experience exquisite."

  • "This use to be our go to place for special occasions. The food, ambiance, wait staff slipped badly last summer so we gave it a try for restaurant week. Glad we had non-foodie friends who thought it was very nice. We thought it mediocre at best. It is off the list for ever. Arugula, Kitchen, Atelier are the best for us in Boulder."

  • "I loved the food and the dessert was fabulous! We had a small room for 6 off to the side of the main room and it was quiet and the ambience was wonderful. The staff was courteous and prompt. The whole experience was well worth the price (it is pricey) and I will definitely eat there again. I would recommend Colterra to anyone looking for a high end restaurant!"

  • "The food was very good to excellent, and service and atmosphere were very good. I had a bit of sticker shock when our unpriced special entrees were $34 & $38. In my opinion, several of the very tasty dishes did not live up to their price tag, moreson since the ambiance of the restaurant and staff is more casual than elegant."

  • "Even with a reservation for a Sat night we somehow ended up sitting at a table that felt like it was oddly placed in the middle of the room (not very romantic). It took 1/2 an hour after being seated to get a cocktail - I watched the ice melt for 15 minutes at the bar. Once our order was place we didn't see much of the waitress after that. When it came to paying the bill we waited for 40 MINUTES - their system was on the fritz and not once were we offered a drink or dessert or perhaps a couple dollars off the bill for making us wait. We had an 8pm reservation and didn't get out of there until 10:40pm. Then come Monday since my card had been swiped so many times at Colterra - my bank had over $400 "pending" per Colterra's computer glitch."

  • "I arranged for flowers to be delivered by Niwot Florist, and it was a perfect hit! French food was best we've had since Paris! I would tell everybody to go there, but don't want it too crowded! A great find."

  • "Our first time visit for a romantic dinner, (reservations were a snap using OpenTable). Great ambiance, attentive and expert staff... busy but not too noisy. I had heard great things about Colterra, and they met and exceeded our hopes. Was looking forward to the vegetarian & fish options, and we were not disappointed. Grilled Gorgonzola Pear appetizer was a revelation... sweet, subtle, complicated and refreshing... did I mention delicious? Crusted Ahi small plate was perhaps the best tuna I've had in years. And for entrees, we had the large plate Winter Vegetable Sampler and also the Lobster Risotto, sharing from each others' plates the whole time. The meal was pricey, but by no means was it unearned. Portions were generous. Go tonight."

  • "We have eaten at Colterra on several occasions. Sometimes for special events and others for Sunday brunch. We have never been disappointed. The fresh, home grown ingredients are second to none. The kitchen staff are positively innovative with their offerings. An all round dining treat. We cannot wait for the warmer weather when we again can enjoy Colterra offerings outside in their garden area."

  • "Colterra is an upscale restaurant. If you are very price conscious, it's not for you. But there are few restaurants that offer good quality food — organic, sustainable, clean — and Colterra is one of the best."

  • "For the most part, the atmosphere is great, although there were a few discordant notes: the pear tart was so overwhelmingly sweet and cloying, it was impossible to tell a pear was involved. The saschet of bath salts on the table was there...why? Made no sense, and we joked about it all evening. Finally, as cars park just outside, putting shades on the lower parts of the window might not be a bad idea. During the course of our dinner, several patrons left, got in their car, turned on their headlights, and stayed for minutes, with their HID headlights boring right into our eyes. This didn't happen once, but several times. I guess we'll try to ensure a table on the other side of the building, in the future."

  • "Restaurant is good for special occasions . Food and service are good . Although I like Shabby Chic decor - restaurant is looking a little more shabby than I prefer for a special occasion. Will go again - would like to try the patio when it warms up."

  • "Good, because it's always good. Not inspired to the usual level, but nothing to complain about either. This place is just always good. A bad evening at Colterra is better than most restaurants in the area on their best days. Only the Sugar Beet compares in the immediate vicinity."
