This place was great. Great
hostess, great waiter as well. The seafood was amazing. I went for a client meeting and the setting could not be better."

A cute place to go with a good
friend or significant other, loved the inside and outside; service was quality and the food was excellent. I was all about it."
Dined on 2/18/2014
Quiet, nice place, but the service
is spotty and Manu not quite broad enough for healthy eaters. Nice ambiance but a menu expansion would help"

Best Mac and cheese ever!! Very
romantic setting. Great wine selection."

Small space to done at but
definitely a smooth & relaxing ambiance. Food was very flavorful but the amount/sizing was sufficient for me. Try to be seating upstairs and make sure to book well in advance do to the small spacing & popularity of the restaurant. I would recommend this place to everyone BUT since I have a big diet and I like a wider variety of food when I'm out eating I will not return."

This is one of my favorite
restaurant of those I have been to through OpenTable. It was quiet, romantic, and, most importantly, delicious. My girlfriend and I both loved our meals and the staff was kind, and helpful. If you are a meat-eater, consider the lasagna—it was worth getting. Also, request to be seated upstairs. After reading some of the other reviews, I now know that we were luckily seated upstairs which is much more intimate."

I got this recomendation for the
perfect dinner to celebrate a romantic birthday and it wasn't due to the place was full, the hostess was unpleasant and rude, the noise was too loud, the food is good but not enough to clear the first impresion of the hostess. I will not recomend this, eventhough i made a reservation the table wasn't ready when we arrived. What a shame!"

Went here for valentines day it
was cute and cozy. Perfect for an anniversary dinner or valentines day. Will definitely Go back!"
Dined on 2/15/2014
Incredibly pricey, but the food's
quality lives up to it! Went for Valentines Day, so I think the regular menu is a little bit more affordable, but overall fantastic. Small portions, but will fill you up if you're not looking for a Big Mac and lArge fry feeling of satiation. Super romantic!"

Via our Open Table reservation ,
we requested the most romantic table but were seated in the bar area. I assumed that this was the most they could offer. When i took a look around, I found that the upper level was quieter and more dimly lit. To my surprise, there were vacancies in the upper level. Also, the seating in the bar area was not ideal for romance as the chairs and tables were tall and pub-like. The music in the bar area was also too loud. It felt too busy even though there was only one or no additional couples in our section at all times."

Our dinner at The House was
lovely. Wonderful ambience, very good food and service. The prices were not outrageous and the portions were appropriate... Not too large and not too small. My only complaint would be that the wine list was extraordinarily expensive. You could buy quartinos for a somewhat high price... I could not justify paying the overly inflated prices for a bottle."

It is a jewel in Union Square with
a old carriage house turned into a charming restaurant. What a pleasant surprise find."
Dined on 2/1/2014
The fire was burning in the
fireplace, the table was large and the chairs comfortable. The food is amazing here. It was comfort food from lobster macaroni to wild boar lasagna, but also had lighter fare for those that preferred it. Everything tasted great. One person had the roast chicken, one had the lightly seared tuna, and another had the lasagna. It was all delicious! The starters, endive salad, and pulpo (grilled octopus) were equally delightful. The dessert offerings were plentiful, the sundae is to be avoided (how can a sundae be dry????) but the apple dish was divine."

Second visit here and not as good
of an experience as the first visit. Service and food was a little disappointing."
Dined on 11/9/2013
My wife and I have been here many
times over the last few years and it gets better every time. Great food not rushed and comfortable. I will continue to recommend this place for a great romantic dinner for 2 or a group of 6. It’s great to find a neighbor gem such as this."
Dined on 1/14/2014
Very warm, dark, romantic spot,
especially upstairs. Imaginative drinks and menu. It gets loud upstairs. Low-talkers, you'll have to turn up the volume. Always receive excellent service."
Dined on 10/24/2013
This was a little disappointing
because it's such a cute venue, so I was hoping it might become a regular lunch place in this neighborhood. The food really was mediocre. Bread on BLT seemed more stale than toasted. Little salad served with it was tasteless. Cappuccino tasted more like strong old coffee than a drink made with espresso as it should be. But my friend liked her hamburger, which was pretty big, though it came with just a few stale potato chips. For a lunch time, it was pretty empty, with the only people sitting at bar-like stools on the main floor. The upstairs was not heated and felt very cold."
Dined on 1/8/2014
If the menu sounds like it is to
your taste one must make a visit to this awesome restaurant!"
Dined on 12/27/2013
If you find yourself on Bleecker
Street, you might consider dropping by The House. The restaurant is small, but service is friendly and the food is very good. I had the burger and the NY Cheddar on top was delicious. Also cooked just as requested. Overall, a pleasant dining experience."

I took my fiancé here for dinner
after proposing at Rockefeller center. I made the occasion known to the staff prior to our arrival and they were very accommodating, hostess and server were extremely excited for us and made sure we had a great experience. Champagne was waiting at the table. On a Friday night it is definitely lively but not abrasive. We had no problem talking about our future together. Music was audible but not piercing, lovely Christmas decorations upstairs where we sat, very good cocktails, deviled egg sampler is a must, I ordered the brisket and my fiancée the lasagna which were both excellent. I am very glad to have picked the house to make a memory we won't ever forget."
Dined on 12/20/2013
I went here on the recommendation
of a colleague, and while it had all the component pieces for a quiet, romantic eatery, they did not add up to that experience. The restaurant brings in an assortment of patrons so it's hard to gauge what type of evening you'd have there. The prices suggest that it'd be a fairly nice evening, but because of the clientele mix it came out feeling like a posh spot more than a romantic spot (which I think it bills itself as)."

I visit the city often and also
travel extensively for business. We came across The Place some years back and would not consider missing an opportunity to dine there while in NY. The food, service and atmosphere have never failed to impress even after multiple trips. Can't say enough about this wonderful restaurant!"
Dined on 12/20/2013
We had a group of eight(8)
celebrating Christmas Dinner - we sat in the lower level which was perfect - quiet and intimate. Our server Tomas was"Outstanding" and all the ladies loved him !! We can't wait to come back again - this time for brunch !! Note: We had some issues with people getting there late due to George Washington Bridge traffic but the server Tomas and his colleagues expedited all meal requests quickly so we could make our show !!!!"

It's hard to find a place any more
where conversation might actually be possible. I was here for lunch in this former "home" and while I didn't see the upstairs, the downstairs bar area is very nice. Menu had interesting options, I chose the truffled mac and cheese. Wine by the "glass" is really a quartini (a glass and a half). I'll definitely be back."
Dined on 12/18/2013
Mushroom omelet disappointing, not
that fluffy. Seamed small portion. Service re second cup of coffee very slow, had to ask twice. Ambience was great , location great, others at table enjoyed there meal. Looked like they have jazz there and would be great night scene."
Dined on 12/15/2013
The House says it opens at 11AM on
Sunday. At 11AM the bar (which was unstaffed) was filled to standing room with patrons waiting for tables. At 11:20 they were still "opening up". Swapping out the previous night's menus for that morning's brunch menus; setting tables; reviewing the reservation book. Requests for drinks while we waited were met with, "the bartender will be right there". It was more than 20 minutes after our first request that someone came to the bar. We ordered mimosas and were told "the orange juice has gone bad" . It was a Laurel and Hardy episode - up and down the stairs; being asked questions that never got answered. Lovely spot and thankfully the chef did show up. Food was good, but not worth a return."
Dined on 12/15/2013
The space is a beautifully
restored carriage house, 3 levels, intimate atmosphere and achieves a spacious feel in small quarters. Service was perfect and waiter's French accent was a plus! Us two shared 4 menu items for lunch, which wss just the right amount - a little too much! The Bibb salad, mushroom flatbread, truffled fingerling potatoes - terrific. The farro "rissoto" with butternut squash, fennel and shallots should win the Official Comfort Food of the year award - wonderful. Bill including tip was $40.00 per person."

I met a potential client for
brunch at The House last weekend, thinking it would be a delicious, luxurious experience. I had not eaten there before, but have been there for cocktails at the bar many times and always enjoyed it. It was a terrible experience. The service was slow, inattentive, and completely inefficient--a long wait, no spoon or sweetener for tea, a tasteless panino, and we had to get up to go get our own salt and pepper...my friend received a cup of hot milk instead of cappucino, then said the new cup tasted like instant coffee and didn't drink it. How embarrassing. I will not go there again."

We wanted to pick some place nice,
with good food and atmosphere but not outrageously expensive. The House fit the bill perfectly. They have a very good wine list—we tend toward the lower priced wines and these were all very good—and the food was excellent. It was the Wednesday evening before Thanksgiving so it was very quiet and not at all crowded (although there were a dozen or so people downstairs and almost that many upstairs); I don't know what it's when it's full but we had no trouble having a normal conversation. I would definitely go back."

Very nice cozy restaurant. Food
and service very good. Tables are on the small side and because of cozy size can be loud."
Dined on 11/29/2013
Booked table 2 months in advance
for a romantic dinner. Upon confirmation a few days before the date, was told that due to party, the table was not available, but we could sit by the fireplace in the main floor. When we arrived the table turned out to be a small cocktail table with bar stools in the noisy bar area. After complaining, we were given a table in the basement, next to the kitchen. On the bright side, the food was very good, as was the service and the owner, after apologizing, comped us wine. Overall, though the meal was fine, I recommend that for a romantic setting to look elsewhere, as we will in the future."
Dined on 11/23/2013
This is a great spot for an
enjoyable evening. The menu choices are diverse (and the short ribs are a 'must'), the wine list is limited but adequate, and the service is pleasant and attentive. The noise is a bit heavy-duty, but one can sit as long as one wants, dawdling at the end of dinner, without feeling rushed to vacate the table."

We ate dinner on the first level.
It's a small dining area and bar. Beautiful architecture. We had a big lunch, so wanted a small meal. I had the duck confit and a side of braised greens The duck was an appetizer but plenty served atop polenta. The greens were a side, but part of two other meals on the menu. Our server had to check with the chef to find out if he'd make an exception and serve it as a side, and he did. The greens were prepared simply, and very good. The atmosphere in this restaurant made it very special. I enjoyed every bite."

My wife and I have celebrated a
number of special occasions at The House over the past few years and we have never been disappointed. The staff is extremely attentive without being overbearing, the food is delicious, and the ambience is romantic. In the middle of a big city, it is wonderful to have dinner in an intimate space that is so relaxing and welcoming. We will continue to return - every chance we can..."

Got shafted in the basement
seating. no ambience. next to the kitchen. all my clothes smelled like food when we left. every time someone orders coffee, the espresso machine goes on and you have to stop your conversation until it stops."

Had a memorable night...food was
delicious, service very good, and the restaurant has a lot of character. Very friendly staff makes you feel at home."
Dined on 11/9/2013
Very cozy with fire in the
fireplace to boot. The food is excellent but it's also a great spot for grabbing a drink by the fire. One of my favorite places in NYC."
Dined on 11/8/2013
We ate here for dinner and were
not disappointed!! An eclectic selection, all of them outstanding. Our server, Josh, was friendly and knowledgable. We are planning to have a private party here soon!"
