Colt & Gray4th time dining at Colt and GrayI really enjoyed the patio. Great food an wine selections.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIncredible! The food, the service - thank you Adam!, the drinks and front of the house were top notch. Our experience was fantastic. We are still talking about the food! From the asparagus salad, to the lamb and chef special pork dish to the potted cheesecake, absolutely delicious. We learned some new things about food and wine. It was divine - we will certainly be back!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMHave had this place on myHave had this place on my "to go" list for a long time now and finally made it! So glad that I did! The food was exciting with so many flavor profiles to choose from. One can choose multiple small plates to share and/or order a large entree plate to devour! We went with 3 small plates and 2 entress along with 2 desserts and were filled to the rim! LOL
highly recommend this place and will be back myself soon as I missed out on the foie gras plate as I was saving it for dessert and I was too full to indulge!6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAgain a hit!I've noted that some diners, who've been to Colt & Gray on multiple occasions, give it spotty marks (fine one time; not so much the next), but we haven't experienced that. Our second visit was as much a joy as the first, and C&G is well on its way to becoming our choice for special occasions.
The menu, as usual, tends to the adventurous (or at least less familiar), and, for us, that's a big plus. We were blessed with Brian (2 for 2 now) as our waiter, and his recommendations and insights were, once again, spot on. I would enjoy the rabbit at least once a week, and the pork featured item (my wife's choice) was both generous and perfectly done.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh and differentThe evening was really fun. Our waitress had a fun personality and took really good care of us.
The menu is really different. Not your normal fare. There was rabbit, quail, goat's head, and fun appetizer choices.
Definitely would recommend if you like those types of foods5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing dinner! My wife made a multi course dinner out if the small plates, which she loved. I had the squid appetizer and BBQ quail for dinner...both excellent. We will be back!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMBest cocktails in denver.Have tried several different places for cocktails, Colt and Gray is hands down the best. Beautiful cocktails made by bartenders who know how to craft delicious takes on the classics, or they can whip up a cocktail to your liking. Somehow the bartenders accomplish an elite product minus the elitist attitude. Simply a great place especially for cocktails. I will be back anytime i feel like a superior drink and i will reccomend this place to everyone I know.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMCool PlaceWe were looking for something a little different at a great location and we had a good experience at the Colt & Gray . It's a smaller space than most restaurants I've been in and the seating little cramped at the back. Menu is fun and different, nothing predictable and the food was unusual and well presented. Beef tongue, marrow bones, sweetbreads, lard, pig trotters, but there were the more traditional meats and vegetarian dishes to choose from also. The service was good and I highly recommend this restaurant5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful all aroundService was excellent, and the food exquisite. Loved the mint snap peas and trotters! Relaxing atmosphere and the staff is knowledgable and not over-bearing. Great establishment!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWONDERFULGREAT DETAILS IN THE EXECUTION, LOVELY SERVICE, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing MealColt & Gray has been on our list for a while and it did not disappoint! I recommend going with people that like to share as we ordered a little of everything and shared. You must try selections from the daily charcuterie as they are all made in house and incredible. They change every night so if they are offering the lomo with spices and garlic (I forget the actual name)- try it! Also, the fried oysters and blue cheese dusted gougeres were perfect starters. We also enjoyed the asparagus salad which comes with a crispy poached egg- think medium poached egg coated in panko and fried- yum! The Rabbit and Dumplings are a must. So flavorful, it tasted like it was simmering all day. Overall, wonderful experience.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood but a little 'esoteric' for usWe enjoyed colt and gray but the menu was a little off the beaten path for us. The charcuterie was decent but again a little strange for our taste. But overall a great little spot.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMI invited some out of townI invited some out of town guests that are used to fine dining in Southern California - this place was a hit. They enjoyed the wine list, menu and service. Very nice!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic + Info on bringing kidsFantastic food and service and creative drink menu. Everything was seasoned and prepared perfectly. We had an awesome time.
Kid info: We brought a 2 year old - we fed her appetizers, soup as well as off our plates - kids eat adult food here. The close seating arrangements, had diners around us worried that we had ruined their night. Ours was mellow thanks to the ipad but if you have more energetic or impatient kids or picky eaters you should probably go elsewhere for dinner.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMVery good small restaurantVery nice small restaurant in a good part of town. The restaurant is nicely lighted and has a very good feeling. The food prep and menu items are a bit different, but interesting and very good.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wondeful evening. We had a wondeful evening. The staff, service and more importantly the food was excellent. We will return and recommend to our friends4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant in Denver?Kevin is my #2 bartender of all time. Though I find his classic cocktails to lack the perfection and refinement that most of my other favorite bartenders execute, his signature cocktails are in a league of their own. He is the best, true mixologist with whom I've ever had the privilege of indulging.
The food is truly outstanding, too. Charcuterie—perfect preface to the most amazing kale salad I've ever tasted—lightly dressed in the most perfectly balanced vinaigrette. Main courses: stuffed quail—lightly smoked and brilliantly paired with a warm fennel salad. Cioppino—fresh seafood, plenty of bread for soppin' the mildly spicy broth, delicious, but the low-light of the evening. Dessert—sticky toffee pudding. Need I say more?4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMServer overcomes a challenge! We had a very enjoyable experience at Colt and Grey! We started out with a number of meats, cheeses, and small plates. Each of these was unique and delicious. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable with the wine list. We had a challenge with our main course, we had both ordered the Ribeye, however one of the steaks was incredibly tough. As soon as this was brought to our servers attention he was very attentive, and even had the chef attempt to slice the meat in order to make it less tough but to no avail. We didn't have to request that it be removed from the bill, our server took care of that. Even though we had a small problem the attentiveness to service made for an excellent experience.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDid not know what to expect.Did not know what to expect. Found that the food was great and the service was good as well. I have recommended it to friends for their special ocassions or a nice night out.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a lovely restaurant. This is a lovely restaurant. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at the establishment and the server went above & beyond to make it a special occassion for us. Most of the food was excellent, however, the Goat T-bone was very chewy and not what we expected. The homemade sausages and charcuterie were exceptional.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been here several times,I have been here several times, and I guess my overall impression has just gotten pretty low. They need to pay a bit more attention to upkeep and service -- we sat for about 5 minutes before being asked for a drink order and had to request from the over-busy waiter to get dessert menus and then also had to ask twice for the check. The food isn't as amazing as it used to be either. Maybe the Denver restaurant scene is just much better than it was 3 years ago so it pales in comparison...4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food, flavors areAmazing food, flavors are incredible, wonderful service3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAn urban "Fort" for less. The most eclectic menu I've ever seen where I didn't need to sell a leg to pay for it. Perfectly prepared and delivered. Service was friendly, helpful and there.
The ambiance was clean and rustic and a bit crowded and loud. It was a very full night and the addition they are building may improve that.
We will be back often.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat cocktails and local fareOnce again, wowed by the cocktails of Kevin Burke. He whips up the perfect concoction every time. Meal was great, our table had the charcuterie (definitely try the beef tongue pastrami), quail, half chicken (perfectly crisped skin), goat (a little tough, but it IS goat, after all), and sea bass. Portions are small, as can be expected from these types of restaurants. The piece de resistance is still the desserts...potted cheesecake and sticky toffee pudding. Hope they never take these off the menu.
Only problem was having to wait about 25 minutes for our reserved table (not their fault, the folks before us wouldn't get up, but still...a free app would have been nice) and then having to wait again before leaving to get our coats.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI took my son for his lastI took my son for his last hurrah before he flew back East for school. We had a wonderful experience. The food was incredible especially the Foie Gras. Chocolate bread pudding was also great! We would definitely recommend the restaurant!!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing food!If you like to try unique foods or simply like a savory spin on a meaty dish, this is the place to go! From bone marrow, to duck prosciutto to beef tongue, pork belly or a tasty cut of steak, this food does not disappoint! Also, the cocktail menu is creative and delicious! Our waiter was excellent at describing each item on the menu as well as which cocktails would suit our palates. He was friendly and perfectly energetic. The restaurant was small, but didn't feel cramped and had a fresh, calm ambiance. It was a great first time experience there. We will be back again...3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was absolutelyEverything was absolutely excellent and it doesn't take itself too seriously.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was near-perfection.Everything was near-perfection. The cocktails are some of the best we've had in Denver - very talented mixologists. Delicious food. We just took a tour of the cheeses, charcuterie, small plates and snacks - all spot on. Really fun, delicious, memorable experience. Will definitely return.3/9/2013 12:00:00 AMWarm, inviting, wonderfulWarm, inviting, wonderful room. Server & staff were attentive without hovering (difficult task). Food was exceptional. We will be back!!2/27/2013 12:00:00 AMGood for Special OccasionsThis is the second time my wife and I have eaten here and both visits were about the same. I started with the soup special, which was good, and my wife had beef heart, which was dominated by the horseradish. I ordered the lamb and it was quite good. My wife had chicken with an excellent sweet potato spaetzle and a delicious sauce. She found the kale a bit on the spicy side. We had a nice pastry dessert with homemade blue cheese ice cream that I liked, but she was so-so on. We had a pretty good Rhone wine that went well with both meals. My only complaint about C&G concerns the wine selection. There is almost nothing below $50.00 and, frankly, I don't want to pay that much for wine. The bill came to $166.00, with tip. Service was excellent.2/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
