Diner Reviews
  • "We were celebrating a special occasion and had been to Colours before and enjoyed it. This evening was a DISASTER! There was no Buffet on this night and we ordered from a menu, we had to ask for the menu and were given one to share between 4 people, our meal then took one and a half hours to arrive. All we ordered were two fish and chip and two sandwiches . After our meals were finished, two more orders of fish and chips arrived ,which we sent back. Then another full order of sandwiches and fish and chips arrived, again sent back! What a gong show and what a waste of food. Won't be back and can see why Northlands always has it's hand out for funds, Total Gong Show."

  • "The check in was good, food was great, view was awesome. The service was slow. We waited a minimum of 20 minutes to get our drink order. We were unaware it was a buffet, and after waiting awhile for menus, we finally caught our servers attention and found out. I believe our server came back to check on us once during dinner. We were also not told that dessert was included with the buffet. As I said the food was great, and overall we would be willing to give it another try at some point."

  • "Colours offers a fabulous view of the race track, its only redeeming feature. It was once a decent place for standard fare but has deteriorated from o.k. to frankenfood. I booked for July 1st, which is a great day to go to the horse races. The first unpleasant surprise was the sign that said you MUST purchase the buffet at $25 or if you don't a $20 charge is still applied. Except for the salads, the buffet food was inedible unless you have lost your sense of smell (and sight). In terms of horror factor, the dense grey meat loaf stood out. The servers stayed huddled around their stations, so good luck getting their attention, and we asked to see the manager but got a no-show. Looks like Colours has faded to a whiter shade of pale."

  • "Waiter was way too busy to do a good job. There were a lot of table cleaners but not enough senior staff"

  • "We had an absolutely fabulous time. The food was great, the staff beyond friendly and helpful. I had taken my sweetie out for his birthday and everything was perfect. The evening was fun. we loved the food, the drinks were good, price was perfect. WE WILL BE BACK"

  • "Service was lousy, took forever to get drinks. Had to walk up to the bar to get drinks numerous times. Would ask waitress's for items and they would never come"

  • "The only thing Colours restaurant has going for it is its location to the race track. The food was awful. I had fish and chips -- the fish was right out of a freezer box and deep fried to the point that the fish was dried out. My husband had their steak sandwich -- the meat was small, over cooked and dry and too chewy. Although the service was attentive, our girl was new. She didn't know how to open a bottle of wine with a corkscrew. She gave us the wrong bill and had to find the right one. She had no answers to our questions. Don't know what you do when you come to the track, because you get this same bad food in the bar area as well - without the view of the track. Maybe you have to bring a lunch with you."

  • "The food was tasty enough but there wasn't very much selection. For a $25 buffet I would have expected more choices. The prime rib was very good, but there wasn't much else to choose from. The desserts were great! Drink service was a bit slow, but it seemed that the waitress had a lot of tables to deal with rather than she was just being lazy or didn't know what she was doing. She was very apologetic so that made things better. All in all, I would return to the racetrack for a special event but would hope for more options on the buffet."

  • "Great experience with two grand-children. Our table location was perfect. Our waiter was very friendly and observant to our needs. Food was okay. In the past the food was outstanding."

  • "we were in F1 unfortunately the service has gone away down hill since changing from menu to buffet not enough for children on buffet I finally had to go to DEENE bar manager to get us service and this is not the first time I do not begrudge the cost but service stinks."

  • "The dining room was comfortable and kid friendly. The buffet was good, not a lot of different selections, my 6 year old only liked the sausage and nothing else, they never refilled the fruit platter so if you wanted certain fruit then you had to be there early. The dessert was good as my daughter had 3 pieces of chocalate cake. We loved watching the horse races while we were eating and the waitress was friendly. We were allowed to leave and attend the barn tour while having our table saved for us."

  • "Had a great evening! Our niece and nephew were done from Grande Praire and it was a fun experience for them. They loved the food and the whole atmosphere. Thank for giving us a table near the top and close to the betting machines as I had requested. The server was excellent- but unfortunately I have forgotten her name."

  • "We have been going to Colours for years and really enjoyed being able to order off their menu. Now they only have the buffet. When we went a few weeks ago for Sunday Brunch it was extremely plain and disappointing-the meat was a dry pork roast. This time we went on Weds evening and the food was again plain but a bit better the meat dish was turkey and they only had white meat (when I went up at least). For over $25 for a buffet, I expect really good food. This is definitely not the case, the food is edible. At one point, I saw one of the chefs pick something out of the salad bar with her ungloved hand and put it in her mouth. I do enjoy the wine and drink list, it is quite varied."

  • "However everything else went downhill from there...........what was on line for the menu was not what was served. Salads were ok, everything else was downhill, tasteless (pasta), overcooked/rubbery (fish). The best part of the night was the chocolate cake. Service was erratic and slow. Apparently the young man who was supposed to be serving our table did not come over to our table for almost 90 minutes. The young lady that took over our table was wonderful, warm, accomodating and truly efficient, albeit overworked/stressed with having to take on additional tables. I love the races but next time will go grab a hotdog instead of the buffet."

  • "Everyone in our group enjoyed the buffet. I still like the idea of a menu. Our server was a sweet young man - but, our service was very poor, slow beyond words, i.e. two drinks were ordered at the same time (water and pop), the water was delivered after a long wait - it took an evern longer time to get the pop - and only after we flagged someone down. Waiting for our bill was a very long frustrating experience. For those reasons I have made one recommendation above."

  • "The food was terrible, the beef lasagna had no beef, there was no dessert, the chicken oscar was tough and overcooked."

  • "The buffet was very limited and did not provide good value for the money. Service was slow and not very good. I would not go back."

  • "I treated my brother and nephew from New Brunswick to a night at the track. Food was good, price was right and there was a full night of entertainment. The only draw back was that between the wagering, eating and traveling to do all, I found the pace left little spare time to relax. Other years, when we ordered off the menue, it didn't seem as rushed. I notice that a high percentage of your guests are seniors or near seniors and some struggle with the steps with their canes and limps. This is only a comment, not a complaint. "

  • "The service was very poor, waited more than 30 minutes to take drink orders. Should of doubled up on the drinks didn't see waitress for more than an hour. Potatoe salad the potatoes were raw, the steamed vegetables the turnip were raw. Roast beef was tough and chicken was very dry. End of evening no bill. Tried to hunt down waitress couldn't find her or the manager to pay bill and file service complaint. Left money with bartender. Not worth the $24.95 for the buffet! Not a very enjoyable evening! "

  • "I have been to colours twice. By far it's the worst service in town. It's too bad because I really enjoy bringing friends but it's close to embarrassing how bad the service is. I would not bring clients to your restaurant. "

  • "Great view, nice tables, staff friendly, all good. The food is very poor. We were there for a Saturday brunch, very bland, not a great selection and for the price, it was NOT worth it. Love the racetrack but will only go to Colors in bad weather."

  • "We were taking my mom to the horse races and wanted to sit in the clubhouse (colours). You were required to pay for the buffet to do so. For the price it was one of the worst buffets for choice I have ever encountered. Salad bar, two soups, pancakes, sausage, tater tots, something that looked like an egg cheesecake and salmon. Hot meat was ham. No bacon or real eggs, and nothing if you didn't feel like breakfast. The little choices they had were ok taste wise except for the pastries, which can be best described as day old Danish. We would go back for the races, but given the choice I would stay home and have toast and cereal and save my money."

  • "Great evening at the races, okay food, terrible service. At the start of the 6th race out of 8, we were able to wave down our server to ask about the dessert(which was included) and coffee. After the races, the server eventually brought our bill. They don't take debit, only cash or credit cards. I gave the server my credit card and she disappeared with it (that always makes me feel uncomfortable). 15 minutes later, she came by our table again to ask if we had paid yet! When I told her that I had given her my credit card, she looked surprised and then discovered it and went off again to process the payment. The betting windows were closing when we finally got there to cash in our tickets! This is the second bad experience paying there!"

  • "The service was very poor, felt like we were putting him out when we asked for water, cleaning of the tables. The meal was very over priced, not worth $35.00. Would I go again for Brunch. No might be a good place for supper when the races were on."

  • "I took my mom and my 7 year old son out to Colours for Mother's Day Brunch. It was fantastic. The food was excellent and the service was great. All of us enjoyed it very much. And even though there wasn't a live racing event on at the time, it was still a great view and an amazing time."

  • "The buffer had like 5 items. Nothing was kept warm. The English muffin from the eggs benidict could chip a tooth. For the price I expected more. This place makes buffet royale look like 5 star dining. "

  • "But the service was horrific! We were there for Mother's Day, but it wasn't even as busy as I've seen it. Our waitress was awful."

  • "We like to go on a Friday evening as "date Nite". We do not eat a big lunch so the evening meal is perfect for us. I tell my husband he can eat what he wants as the menu at home is sometimes restricted."

  • "Buffet food was very poor quality, poor flow, many items empty and cold, roast beef not tender. Dessert was in edible , bit into brownie and got a tsp of salt, and very over cooked. Very expensive at 24.95/person. Waiter was very. Inexperienced and frazzled . Waited a long time for water. Ran out of decaf coffee. Really disappointing meal especially for the price . Won't be returning. Was much better when Colours offered a choice of menu or buffet. "

  • "They have decided that we all are satisfied to have a buffet that is priced at 24.99 even if we don't want it. We were not permitted to go up and purchase food from another option on the same floor. With food allergies at our table a steak alternative was offered. None were served as ordered way over done with a simple baked potato with no condiments. Management was non existent to assist the new servers on the first day of service. Experienced servers stood around and watched the inexperienced flounder. Training of staff is a big issue. Colours acts like fine dining but is far from it. Gone are the cloth napkins, food choices, decent service. Who is driving this bus??? No one who really cares about the customer."

  • "I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I have had good service at Colours before but opening weekend with all the new staff was rather disappointing. Service was very slow. They dropped the menu for a mandatory buffet service (or pay a $20 cover per person). The buffet was typical Northlands fare OK but nothing special and not served very hot. Dessert is available if you ask your waitress (it took a while to figure that out) but ours was very busy so it took quite a while to get her attention. We usually only go to Colours 2-3 times per season but I will wait a while till the staff hits their stride. It's still a fun place to have dinner and watch the horses. Canada day is always a good time there. "

  • "Even if you are not a gambler it is fun to make a small bet on the horses and see how they do. We had several photo finishes. The buffet was good and we had an enjoyable evening. The first table they sat us at was not very good as we could not see the complete track....but the host found us a much better table no problem."

  • "One of the meals we ordered never did come. We had to chase down a supervisor to get the meal bright after we had all finished eating. The waiter mixed up our drink order and when it was bright to the table the server spilled a drink on one of the guests. Some of the staff seemed under trained and confused on what they were supposed to be doing. All in all not great. Too bad because it used to be a fabulous place to go for an evening"
