A word from Colori Kitchen
Colori kitchen means family. The restaurant founded by chef Luigi barducci Contessi and his wife Paola offer two things that people can always count on: homemade good food and a welcoming and warmth atmosphere that make you feel at ease. You can walk in on a bit of a family drama sometimes, but that is juts the background for a culinary experience that leave you satisfy each time you visit. The menu offer classic Italian dishes like tagliatelle alla Bolognese and spaghetti al pesto, but it also offer a variety of daily special created personally each day by chef Luigi, such as the popular Cioppino or the succulent risotto with three kind of crab meat. In addition you cannot leave without trying at least one of the many desserts that are, like everything at Colori, made daily including all-time favorite like the Luigi’s cannoli together with innovative one like the Italian cheesecake. Like a family Colori offers consistency, try it once and you will come back.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "some of the best Italian food to be found in Los Angeles."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Good food, friendly staff - I wasn't blown away, but I walked away thoroughly satisfied with the price, the meal and the ambience. Solid."

  • "Saturday night is typically really busy...a tribute to their excellent, amazing food. Bring your own libation and enjoy!"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "Neither the area or the outside cover is any way an indicator of the delight waiting for you upon entering this neighborhood GEM."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The only complaint I had was for the wait time. We had made a reservation but still had to wait 30 min to be seated. Their credit card machine was causing a bit of a hold up, but that would explain the wait we experienced that night. Otherwise, the pumpkin ravioli and the gnocchi was delicious. Oh, and the flan is a must. The best flan I've ever had. Service staff was friendly and cheerful despite the credit card hold up, and they were very warm to everyone. We will be back to try the other items on the menu."

  • "Food is great and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. Also, BYOW which is awesome."

  • "Freshly made pasta to die for. Love the free corking as well!"

  • "If you want excellent traditional Italian food at a great price, this place has it! Up the street off Broadway, Maccheroni Republic has better fresh pasta, but this place is nearly as good with more variety. Both places you can bring your own bottle of wine and they do not charge corkage. This place is a DTLA must for all Italian food lovers!!"

  • "We love this restaurant. In fact, we love it so much I hesitate to write a review -- it is already busy enough. Truly, this restaurant is a neighborhood gem. With all the development downtown and all the new restaurants, one might imagine that Colori Kitchen would get some serious competition, but it's not even close. If you want microgastronomy or pan-global cuisine, or if you want a scene where you can stare at people rather than enjoy your food, this might not be your place. But if you are seeking an incredibly friendly, local, unpretentious restaurant serving fresh, homemade, delicious Italian food at reasonable prices, you've found the perfect fit. We could eat here every night."

  • "Colori has been around the neighborhood for about 7 years now and it's still one of my favorite Italian restaurants. Food is always great, plenty of it and prices reasonable. The best part is it's BYO with no corkage."

  • "This place is a very good neighborhood spot in DTLA. Bring your own bottle of wine or beer."

  • "It had been months since I was last there. But when people remember you, it becomes very nice. Thanks Greg. The menu including the specials great too. I love the hole in the wall feel - could be London or it could be Chicago but it's DTLA. GO THERE AND OFTEN."

  • "Food,Service,Ambience.. All outstanding. No corkage fee. They do not serve alcohol."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "I love this place...the ambiance, Greg's (waiter) engergy and recommendations, and especially the calamari. Saturday night was extremely busy and loud. Success is showing by the number of people waiting for a table...recommend reservations via opentable site, never a problem."

  • "They are very welcoming as soon as you arrive. Considering the popularity of the restaurant as well as how crowded it can get, the service never faulted at any time. I never felt rushed as I enjoyed my dinner. They are very amicable and friendly. And the food is always amazing. No corkage fee either? Love it!"

  • "This restaurant is awesome. Would recommend to friends."

  • "I just love this place, from the earthy but smooth chickpea spread on the complimentary bread to the creamy buttery inside of the burrata appetizer to the sweet tangy richness of Nonna's meat Lasagna (current special.) Man, I hesitate to really write this review as the place gets crowded enough Thu-Sat nights. Just kidding, they are that good, so the wait is worth it!"

  • "This is the loudest place I've ever eaten. Food was good but we ate super fast to get out due to the piecing ear pain. The acoustics are terrible. I've eaten here on a week night and it wasn't as crowded so I thought it would be nice for a romantic dinner out. We had to shout to hear each other."

  • "We really enjoyed the food. The special ravioli with veal and mushrooms was amazing."

  • "A little hole in the wall restaurant with great service, great food, reasonable prices, but admittedly loud. Would recommend this restaurant. Another plus is no corkage; however no wine glasses so be prepared to drink your fine wine in a glass or bring your own wine glasses (which we did in the past)."

  • "We enjoyed the food very much. It was very noisy, so it was hard to visit, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. Something to remember: they do not sell wine or alcohol, so bring your own!! Don't let the neighborhood scare you away."

  • "Our go-to place for a great meal...delicious calamari and lasagna. Friendly and excellent staff! Martha"

  • "I call this place a hole in the wall with the best intentions. Everybody I bring here loves it. Delicious food and super friendly staff."

  • "This local downtown place is perfect for a good dinner before going to the Music Center or Disney Hall or Staples Center. The menu is nicely diverse and the service is very solid and if you tell them you have an event they take it seriously. The popularity of the place means you should definitely make a reservation. They do not sell bear or wine so bring your own and surprise there is no corkage charge."

  • "I generally shy away from Italian restaurants! My family is Italian and my mother makes the best fresh pasta and sauces. Colori Kitchen's food was wonderful. Fresh made pasta with amazing pesto sauce. The staff was attentive and friendly. A very pleasant dining experience."

  • "We came for dinner at 6 pm (when they opened) and was seated immediately. We started with the calamari steak appetizer which was tender and flavorful. For entrees, we had the special of the day (Rock Cod with mussels and clams cooked in parchment paper) and their Tagliatelle Bolognese. The cod was delicious! The tagliatelle was full of tasty meat ragu and the pasta was cooked al dente. For dessert, we shared the Tiramisu which came in a round bowl. We've never had tiramisu prepared this way before but it was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. Even though our waiter was working by himself, he still managed to come by several times to check on us. We will definitely return to try their other yummy-sounding dishes!"

  • "Had a fantastic experience at Colori- serververy attentive to the fact that we had a game to make - wonderful homestyle unpretentious food.....**note - there is NO booze here so you have to BYO.... i was forewarned by a friend -- can't say enough about the great service we got here"

  • "A friend and I went there before the theatre. Excellent food, waiter was very friendly and service was great. We visited the restaurant mid-week and on the early side. There were a couple of people in the restaurant but by the time we left, most tables were empty. No liquor license so if you want a glass of wine with dinner, you need to bring your own bottle."

  • "Went to Colori Kitchen to catch an early (6:00) dinner before curtain time. The food and service were both excellent. If a restaurant offers any form of pesto pasta on the menu I will order it. Colori's pesto spaghetti is the pesto by which I will now measure all other pestos! It was amazing. Also, it was served hot, which doesn't always happen in a restaurant when pasta is dished up onto the plate. My wife is not a huge fish fan but ordered the almond crusted cod which was also excellent and she really enjoyed it."

  • "Found this spot on line, close to our hotel. The fresh pasta is as good as any in Italy. Minestrone like Nonni makes. Bring your own wine, no corkage. Our server a real gem fromDenver."

  • "The food was amazing, I'm Italian so it's hard to find Authentic Italian. This was Authentic and it was delicious!"

  • "bring your own booze / beer/ beverage (byob) with no corkage fee is a plus. small retaurant. make reservations!! noise can get very loud when restaurant is full. loft style interior. food was tasty and portions were meduim. plates/ silverwares/ glasses are not fancy but does its job. overall great experience and would dine here again."

  • "WE have been there twice in recent weeks. Bth times it was an argument as to who got to order it as we never the same thing. Both times it was wonderful, five star, and huge portion; two people could really split it Other items were good but not up to the same standard. Restaurant is very loud and warm. Suggest oe does not eat near the open kitchen."

  • "Will definitely be returning. Is now on our list of places we frequent."
    Dined on 11/21/2013
  • "Food was good but with construction outside the parking is difficult for a quick lunch. Nearby parking lots charge $12 flat, upfront fee during work week. This makes for an expensive lunch when meeting a friend or client downtown."
    Dined on 11/13/2013
  • "The food was outstanding as always but it all came way too fast. Main course was brought minutes after the first course and we had to ask them to hold it. The place was packed with people waiting for tables and we felt rushed out even though we had made a reservation. Also, the waiter was a tad "judgy" about some of our selections which were all delicious, by the way."
    Dined on 11/2/2013
  • "The food is fantastic, as it's always been. Love the BYOB setup with no corkage fee, it's really graceful of them - we just add a few more dollars to the tip. The menu changes just frequently enough to not get boring. We were craving the amazing lamb chops that were no longer on the menu and they were able to make it for us anyway."

  • "great food, no corkage, friendly staff. can't ask for more."

  • "An unexpected find tucked into a corner of downtown LA. The hummus-like starter was very good, and the salad was fresh and the lemon dressing had zing. The quality of the main dishes was fine but not great--the meatballs were somewhat ordinary and the Cioppino's clams and mussels were small, overcooked, and overwhelmed by the hearty soup stock."
    Dined on 10/25/2013
  • "Perhaps it was an off night, but even though we made a reservation and the restaurant was less than half-full, we encountered slow and poor food service for our two dishes (over 40 minutes) and waited 20 minutes for our credit card to be processed, as we watched other tables being processed immediately."
