A word from Colori Kitchen
Colori kitchen means family. The restaurant founded by chef Luigi barducci Contessi and his wife Paola offer two things that people can always count on: homemade good food and a welcoming and warmth atmosphere that make you feel at ease. You can walk in on a bit of a family drama sometimes, but that is juts the background for a culinary experience that leave you satisfy each time you visit. The menu offer classic Italian dishes like tagliatelle alla Bolognese and spaghetti al pesto, but it also offer a variety of daily special created personally each day by chef Luigi, such as the popular Cioppino or the succulent risotto with three kind of crab meat. In addition you cannot leave without trying at least one of the many desserts that are, like everything at Colori, made daily including all-time favorite like the Luigi’s cannoli together with innovative one like the Italian cheesecake.   • "The only complaint I had was for the wait time. We had made a reservation but still had to wait 30 min to be seated. Their credit card machine was causing a bit of a hold up, but that would explain the wait we experienced that night. Otherwise, the pumpkin ravioli and the gnocchi was delicious. Oh, and the flan is a must. The best flan I've ever had. Service staff was friendly and cheerful despite the credit card hold up, and they were very warm to everyone. We will be back to try the other items on the menu."

Up the street off Broadway, Maccheroni Republic has better fresh pasta, but this place is nearly as good with more variety. Both places you can bring your own bottle of wine and they do not charge corkage. This place is a DTLA must for all Italian food lovers!!"

  • "We love this restaurant. In fact, we love it so much I hesitate to write a review -- it is already busy enough. Truly, this restaurant is a neighborhood gem. With all the development downtown and all the new restaurants, one might imagine that Colori Kitchen would get some serious competition, but it's not even close. If you want microgastronomy or pan-global cuisine, or if you want a scene where you can stare at people rather than enjoy your food, this might not be your place. But if you are seeking an incredibly friendly, local, unpretentious restaurant serving fresh, homemade, delicious Italian food at reasonable prices, you've found the perfect fit. We could eat here every night."

  • "I just love this place, from the earthy but smooth chickpea spread on the complimentary bread to the creamy buttery inside of the burrata appetizer to the sweet tangy richness of Nonna's meat Lasagna (current special.) Man, I hesitate to really write this review as the place gets crowded enough Thu-Sat nights. Just kidding, they are that good, so the wait is worth it!"

I've eaten here on a week night and it wasn't as crowded so I thought it would be nice for a romantic dinner out. We had to shout to hear each other."

The menu is nicely diverse and the service is very solid and if you tell them you have an event they take it seriously. The popularity of the place means you should definitely make a reservation. They do not sell bear or wine so bring your own and surprise there is no corkage charge."

  • "We came for dinner at 6 pm (when they opened) and was seated immediately. We started with the calamari steak appetizer which was tender and flavorful. For entrees, we had the special of the day (Rock Cod with mussels and clams cooked in parchment paper) and their Tagliatelle Bolognese. The cod was delicious! The tagliatelle was full of tasty meat ragu and the pasta was cooked al dente. For dessert, we shared the Tiramisu which came in a round bowl. We've never had tiramisu prepared this way before but it was delicious. The service was friendly and attentive. Even though our waiter was working by himself, he still managed to come by several times to check on us. We will definitely return to try their other yummy-sounding dishes!"

  • "A friend and I went there before the theatre. Excellent food, waiter was very friendly and service was great. We visited the restaurant mid-week and on the early side. There were a couple of people in the restaurant but by the time we left, most tables were empty. No liquor license so if you want a glass of wine with dinner, you need to bring your own bottle."

  • "Went to Colori Kitchen to catch an early (6:00) dinner before curtain time. The food and service were both excellent. If a restaurant offers any form of pesto pasta on the menu I will order it. Colori's pesto spaghetti is the pesto by which I will now measure all other pestos! It was amazing. Also, it was served hot, which doesn't always happen in a restaurant when pasta is dished up onto the plate. My wife is not a huge fish fan but ordered the almond crusted cod which was also excellent and she really enjoyed it."

Both times it was wonderful, five star, and huge portion; two people could really split it Other items were good but not up to the same standard. Restaurant is very loud and warm. The place was packed with people waiting for tables and we felt rushed out even though we had made a reservation. Also, the waiter was a tad "judgy" about some of our selections which were all delicious, by the way."

The menu changes just frequently enough to not get boring. We were craving the amazing lamb chops that were no longer on the menu and they were able to make it for us anyway."

  • "An unexpected find tucked into a corner of downtown LA. The hummus-like starter was very good, and the salad was fresh and the lemon dressing had zing. The quality of the main dishes was fine but not great--the meatballs were somewhat ordinary and the Cioppino's clams and mussels were small, overcooked, and overwhelmed by the hearty soup stock."
